funny that i have lived in long beach for as long as i have and never went to this spot (nor do I know of anyone who has or does) BUT since I now have a friend who lives close to here, we finally went and we actually like it.

It's simple, basic fare.  Nothing really gourmet, phenomenal or inspiring to the taste buds.  However, if you are hungry and want a good, hearty meal then this is the spot.  I have noticed that mostly city employees, the elderly and lotsa guys go here.  This is a cafe aka cafeteria of sorts - nothing more, nothing less and with that said; it definitely has it's pluses.

I like it because it's old school, homey and lotsa food for cheap prices.  You can not expect too much here, so keep your gourmet expectations low.  Actually that's the appeal, nothing fancy, nothing cutting edge, noveau or creative; basic and then some.

Service is good too.  Never any real problems there either.

To date, I have had the gyro (not bad), the cobb salad (good), the tapioca (home made on the premises - pretty close to what great-grandma used to make), the tuna melt (good).

The food get's 3 stars and since I have been 3 times since I first went 3 weeks ago, I guess you can say I'm a fan of sorts!

I've been to this place 3 times, and each time I forget how terrible the food is here. Don't even attempt to try their more ethnic cuisine. Just stick with breakfast items and sandwiches.

There are really good diners in Long Beach, this is NOT the one to go to.

Yeah... meh, is right on point.

My boyfriend and I were craving strawberry waffles so we decided to pay our first visit to LB Cafe.  Mediocre at best.  Overpriced for what we got.  Our server was friendly and kept a smile on her face.  We liked her but wouldn't come back.

Located in Downtown Long Beach.  This place has a "small town" type of diner feel.  The people who work there are friendly.  The place is a little run down but it was a full house.  We ordered fish and chips for our toddler, and their steak and egg special and steak special with mashed potatoes.  It was pretty good for the price we paid which was under $12! Decent sized steak too. I'd come back again to grab a bite, but its not a place i'd rave about.

It's a completely stereotypical diner in a very good way.  Old and full of character but clean.  They serve huge portions of well prepared classics plus some greek and mex options. Service was friendly.

This place is near the hotel we stay at when we go to Long Beach so we've been here a few times for breakfast. It looks like it's been here for ever, which is to say "a little tired".  Always busy; service is good if not overly friendly.  The portions are huge but the food is average.  The link sausage has kind of a funky spice mix I don't care for.  I guess the biggest draw to this place is that it's better than anything you will get at the nearby convention center.

A pleasant, down and dirty, restaurant. I came here for breakfast on Labor Day morning. My friend and I were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated promptly. The waitress was also very nice.

I had the ham, cheese, and avocado omelette. It was cooked nice and really stuffed with ham. My only complaint was the cheese. It tasted like processed American cheese. The kind that comes in slices wrapped in plastic. Yuck! But overall it was a good omelette. I had the home fries and biscuit on the side. Both very good. The portions are really big here. The coffee was good too and the waitress never let our cups fall below half full. (Unfortunately i feel I have to rate the coffee since that terrible crap I had at the Shore House Cafe....see my earlier review).

I've had better quality elsewhere but this is an old style, reliable diner. I'd return again. Enjoyable.

"I'll have a steak sandwich and... a steak sandwich."

Well it was the size of 2 steak sandwiches, but even Fletch wouldn't take this one for free. It was missing a very key factor any meal should have... FLAVOR.

I don't think I will be coming back here, although my brother does say that the club sandwich and fries are pretty good.

My son had the "children's" spaghetti with meat sauce, and it was bigger than most adult portions I have seen. I think they forgot to drain the spaghetti, as there was a ton of liquid on the bottom and the sauce didn't stick to the pasta at all.

There are plenty of places to eat in Long Beach, so I don't think I will be coming back.

The stafff are super friendly. And always willing to help with a selection on their giant menu. This place is truely a go to spot if your looking for good home cooked food with a friendly atmosphere.

If you like burley food, hardy grub, and quality chow like your mother makes, this place will fit the bill. Went in early Sunday morning while cruising Ocean Blvd and had a wonderful meal. I am giving it a fiur because the biscuits I ordered did not come with gravy. Awesome gravy would have put this place over the top. Went for the basic three egg and bacon option for you guys. Thought I would provide a better review if I went in with standard fair. Please note the home potatoes were good but were also really brown which seemed to me more cooked then they should of been. Tasty yes, but if they were less baked/fried they could have been a better compliment to the over easy eggs i ordered.

The GF ordered a veggie omelet which came out in a handled bowl... Huge from my perspective. What I tasted was pretty good. The broccoli was fresh, the cheese was nicelymelted and the eggs seemed fluffy.

Other than the fact this place is one of the oldest places in Long Beach and could get a rough crowd at night, it was down right worth the $25.00

Go in hungry and ready to enjoy life with Long Beach's best.

I give this great place two Hoots out of two!

YUCK! I am in total shock at the amount of stars this place has. I was hoping this would be a gem but no such luck. I ordered country fried steak...idk what that was. I feel like it had already been chewed up, spit out, and shaped like a patty and the waitress was rude. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant. My fiance had breakfast and I asked to taste the hash browns and they were soft. I like crunchy hash browns. Were they microwaved? Just keep driving if you see this place. You're better off stopping at 7-11 for a hot dog.

Ordered the chef salad.  A H-U-G-E plate of it.  I asked if they made half orders and they didn't.  I don't know how anyone can eat the amount of salad they served.  It was huge!  It would be a great value if you ate the whole thing.  Cost was $9.75.

My lunch mate got the gyro plate and she said it was delicious.  The plate included a gyro, greek salad, and large cut fries.

I also ordered a diet coke to go and noticed that it tasted funky.  It almost tasted like a mixture of rust and salt water.  My friend tasted it and she said it tasted fine.  Who knows....

    This place is ok...

The homemade tzaziki is pretty scrumptious! If you come here, you should really go for the greek food - both time i've been it's pretty tasty. Good dolmes... probably from a can... good hummus and tasty warm pita.

Generous portions, the prices are around the $7-$12 range.

    Khaki colored food.

The fish sandwich was ok too. Don't get the turkey sandwiches - ewwww.

Good classic ordinary french fries : )

    You can go here.

LBC in the LBC.. sure brings back memories! I haven't been back in a decade, but the last time was only the last time because I moved.. Used to live right next door so Long Beach Cafe was more a convenience than anything else. The breakfasts were always pretty good, but aside from that side of the menu, the only other item I ever tried was the Frisco Burger NOM. Giant portions if memory serves, and on the cheaper side of moderately priced for those of us counting our pennies.

    Tough and chewy pancakes.

I picked up some cinnamon pancakes here on a weeknight for a takeout order.  The server was friendly on the phone and in-person.  Pricing seemed fair.

Got home (just across the street) and was greeted by three huge pancakes that looked that they had been airbrushed with some sort of cinnamon sugar coating.  I could tell they coated them with the powder after they had been put in the styrofoam container so the pancakes didn't have an even application.  In fact, the bottom two pancakes hardly had any cinnamon.  Lame.

To make matters worse, they were tough and chewy.  I couldn't finish them.  Any diner worth its salt should be able to make a decent pancake.

This place so reminds me of the Greek diners back in Chicago which is sort of fun since it's something L.A. really doesn't have a lot of.  The reality though is that these types of places tend to have dank interiors and a bunch of cheaply made stuff on the menu with none of it done particularly well.

Next time it's late and I want diner food I'll just go to Denny's or IHOP.  If I want something really good I'll make the trek to somewhere like The Kettle in Manhattan Beach.

.., grabbed breakfast here the other day & now I'm having separation anxiety from their waffles!

My buddy Tim & I came here for our first meal of the day & found it quite delightful. He ordered a breakfast scramble of some sort (w/ meat, cheese, eggs, etc.) that came in a skillet. It looked great, I believe that's what I had my 1st time ever coming here years ago.

I had myself a "Belgian treat". It was listed under their specials menu. It was a Belgian waffle that came w/ eggs & 2 sausage links. The meal was perfect, filling wise. I wasn't too full, but yet I was satisfied. My Belgian waffle was the size of a regular plate & it was delicious. My scrambled eggs & sausage were on another plate, decent portion, excellent taste.

The service is friendly, decent prices, great food. Come check em' out!

Nice little breakfast place.  It was within walking distance of my motel and it was open early.  When I walked in, immediately was seated, the wait staff was very friendly.  My beverage was never empty, the food was pleasant, and the service was wonderful.  Prices were pretty good too.

I ordered French Toast and came pretty fast.  It was very good.  It wasn't too crowded on a Sunday, but then again, I got there at 6:15 am!!!  It is located right on Ocean Blvd and there is plenty of parking and there is lots of room for seating.  Whether it is two people or a group, you can be accommodated!!!  If you're ever in the area, stop by and you won't be disappointed!!!

I've been here several times and I keep getting those addicting waffles every time. I just get the regular waffles which have consistently been golden brown served with heaps of butter and thick maple syrup. My boyfriend got the french toast which was also delicious. My other friend got an omlette which she said was also excellent. Yummy crispy bacon too :)
LBC Cafe has good specials, it's really laid back, staff very nice good service everytime, and lots of parking. This place reminds me of my home back east...they have a lot of southern breakfast classics...like biscuits and gravy! :) They also have a very extensive lunch and dinner menu that I will get around to trying eventually.

Come here with a bear-ish appetite...you'll thank me later.

The portions are enormous, enough for two leftovers.  Now that's what I'm talking 'bout! Their menu offers a vast array of different items, from Greek food to breakfast, to typical dinner entrees.  I've gotten the California Club Sandwich at least 12 times, and that's because it's flavorful, and it's guaranteed leftovers for me ( I LOVE leftovers).  Once, I ordered it, and a few couples near my table copied me because they liked what they saw!

Their Frisco burger is also great.  If you're really trying to get your money's worth and want a burger, get a combo...for about the same price as other items on the menu, you can get soup or salad, along with fries.

I give it 4 stars more so for their large portions ~ oh, and pay at the register...I hate when I'm not sure where to pay!

This place is busy on a Sunday morning. It's a great location since its by the beach and has the old dinner feel to it. I had your typical eggs and waffles, which were really good. I read a lot of reviews of the waffles so I had to try them out. Everything else, such as the eggs, bacon and coffee were your typical restaurant style, but surely worth the waffles. I'd come back here again only if there wasn't a long wait.

I've only had a few of their MANY menu options but so far so good.  I LOVE burgers.. and this one is pretty tasty, one of the best in the area.  A good size (1/2 lb) choice angus chuck served a variety of ways.  I prefer the California Burger (w Avocado, Bacon and Blue Cheese substitute).. It comes with a huge order of decent steak fries for around $10.
I've also tried a few samplings of their "Greek Menu" .. The Falafel sandwich was a little bland but the Dolmates (stuffed grape leaves) were very good.  The service is down home friendly and for the area (downtown Long Beach) the prices are reasonable.  It's difficult to steer away from a burger everytime I come here, but I'm looking forward to trying some other items.

We walked here from our hotel on the recomendation of the woman at the front desk. Plus one of the magazines in the room had a coupon for 15% off. It was worth the walk. We were seated immediately and were handed huge menus that took us by surprise. The three of us were starving so everything looked good. We were told to try the omlettes, but we each ended up getting a different sandwhich and then sharing.

I had the grilled chicken cobb- which was really good. It had a HUGE chicken breast and blue cheese actually melted onto the bread. There was too much lettuce, but that was easily fixable. One friend had the seafood melt (which she split with me) and it was a great new sandwhich to my list of faves. Flavorful seafood mix with melted cheese and grilled bread. It could have been hotter, but I liked it. The third girl got the Manhattan tuna melt and she loved it. The fries were hot and delicious.

This is a great diner- easy to eat food, reasonable prices and nice people. It's beach city kitchy and just an easy relaxing food experience. Don't go expecting the world and you will be pleasantly surprised with how much they do give you.

The first time I came here I thought it was really good - I got simple eggs and bacon and hashbrowns.

The second time I came here wasn't so good. I ordered the same thing except they gave me sausage instead of bacon. I didn't want to bring it up so I just dealt with it, but EW the sausage was extremely gross. I decided to try their breakfast homefries (I think that's what they were called) instead hashbrowns and EW not good either, absolutely no flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and he could barely eat it. We also both got biscuits and they were so dry and their hunny had a weird after taste.

We ended up paying about 35-40 bucks for a meal that was not good AT ALL. (The only thing okay was the eggs). Very sad :o(

Everyone who says bring your appetite isn't joking.  I ordered a veggie omelette and it was huge - taking up half of my large plate. Seriously this thing was about a pound of food. It had so many veggies in it that I hated to leave half on my plate, but I just couldn't finish it.  The hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.  Again -a large portion.

The big portions are matched with bigger than average prices.  My breakfast (no drink) came to $10.

And, breakfast is served all day.  If you don't want breakfast - no worries their menu goes on for pages.  They have sandwiches, burgers, and salads - the typical coffee shop fare.

Service was fast and friendly and attentive.   And, they have plenty of parking next to the restaurant.

I came here with my buddy chuck for a little change up in our breakfast routine. The best way i can describe Long beach cafe is that it's like a Denny's with a hometown feel. Probably the best way to describe it is "average". From the food to service to the atmosphere, it was all so-so. Keep in mind that I'm not saying it was bad, just that it wouldn't be my first choice to go to.

Standard Cafe/Diner fare.  It has earned its place as Long Beach standard by providing flexible hours to late nighters and early morning brunchers.

When I first moved to Long Beach one of the top things on my to-do list was to find a good breakfast place near my apartment. At first glimpse the Long Beach Cafe looks like a moment captured in 1986. Have no fear though; this is one of the best breakfast places in Long Beach. It meets my three requirements for a good breakfast joint: Price, Taste, and Portion size. I recommend the Long Shore-man Special; you won't leave hungry!

Worst dinner experience.   Walked in and sat and the servers didn't even notice us till 10 minutes later.   Ordered the combo appetizer plate, fried zucchinis were cold and soft, chicken wings were more like wet wings, the breaded chicken breasts were uncooked, overall, horrible.

DO NOT order anything from greek menu.  NOT worth your $.  It's better to head down to Pine or 2nd street for real Greek food.  The meat kebobs were uncooked, lamb was hard and unchewable.

Real waste of $, and time.  We come back with stomach aches.  That's how mad the food is.

If you want to poison yourself with cheap pre-made food, then this is the place to go.

Today was my first time going here and I really enjoyed the place. I went around 11:30 and sat right down.
The menu seemed pretty extensive. I settled on the Cobb omelet at the waitress' recommendation. It was an excellent choice; eggs were fluffy, ingredients were fresh, came with hash browns or home fries (I went with the hash browns) and choice of toast (white, wheat, rye, sourdough, I had sourdough). As was mentioned by another reviewer, the portion sizes are huge, even for a guy with a pretty big appetite.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely go back. While the decor wasn't anything special, the service was excellent. And I'm definitely looking forward to eating the leftovers!

Long Beach Cafe or in shorthand, L-B-C in the LBC has sure gotten some iffy reviews!  Clearly I stand outnumbered, but I will tell you, I've had nothing but good meals at that place.

Over at Long Beach Cafe, you're getting diner food not in a kitschy diner that tries to be one for the sake of being a diner, but the kind where you pull up and they have their specials painted on the window.  Yeah, y'all know what I mean.  Formica counters, and salmon and teal wall accents round out that complete picture.

There's a few secrets to this place.
    - Take your time and read the paper.  Don't worry if your dippin' gravy for those humongous bisquits gets cold.  They'll be happy to refill for you.
    - Don't assume you'll get quicker service at the counter.
    - Don't assume the food is gonna be a pick me up.  This is diner food, folks.  Meaning if you don't deflate into a food coma, they didn't do their job correctly.

With plates much bigger than frisbees, you could call the portions giganormous.  They've also got a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner options.  Their breakfast options are a tad more fancy than your usual run-of-the-mill diner.  Eggs Benedict or Eggs Florentine anyone?  Speaking of, the Eggs Florentine (diner style) is really to die for.  Two English muffins, piled high with spinach, tomato, poached egg and hollandaise.  The hollandaise isn't out of the can either, but would you really care if it was (knowing they paint the specials on the window)?  Either way, it's kick ass.  Comes with a side of hashbrowns (get 'em extra crispy) and a giganormous bisquit with gravy.  Delicious!

So service is spotty and can be a tad slow at times, but during one of my last visits, the guy who was attentively refilling my coffee got extra points for also saying I was pretty.  In Spanish.  And I could understand him.  And I think I had egg on my chin too.

Overall: Long Beach Cafe is for comfort food on my lazier days
