Been going to LI for a few years and really enjoy it. I followed Rebekah from another salon - she is GREAT! I always look fabulous when I leave and get tons of compliments.
Very nice people, easy parking (smart park across the street), and a glass of wine, or two!
The only thing I would suggest is that they validate parking - considering I drop approx $135-$150 everytime I come in. It would be a nice added touch.
A few years a go I used to come here and get my hair cut by Haley. She did an awesome job and I always left feeling satisfied and excited about my hair.
I was downtown recently and decided to stop by since I needed a haircut. They took me in right away, but Hayley wasn't there so they gave me a new girl. The haircut took about an hour. Which was suprising because I don't have that much hair to begin with. During the entire haircut the girl was chewing gum with her mouth open. Do you know how annoying that gets after an hour?
I might come back here, if I am in the neighborhood again, but I'll definitely make sure I book Haley.
I have been a fan of their services since 2004. When I first started going to London Influence I had really long hair. My hairdresser then, Robert, did an amazing job keeping my long locks looking smooth, silky, and fashionable. In July of 2005 I had Robert cut off 11 inches and had it donated to Locks o' Luv. Not only is Robert a great conversationalist but he also has amazing tattoos which are fun to look at while he works his magic.
Since the loss of my long locks I've been working with Nicole who does an amazing job. I thought I would hate the aukward grow out phase but have found that it was my favorite part of losing 11 inches. She has done an amazing job at keeping my hair looking fashionable at any length. In addition, she is creative and artistic in coloring. Nicole is energetic, amusing, and very beautiful.
I have always left the salon completely satisfied. I appreciate the staff, the rotating artwork, and the pricing. I especially appreciate the compliments I receive from random strangers!
My first visit to London Influence was in 2006 when I worked Downtown and decided to go on Citysearch (sorry, I didn't know about Yelp back then) and find the salon ranked highest. That was LI. There were tons of positive reviews by women who couldn't stop gushing about all the stylists and the "miracles" worked on their coifs. Me, I'm Asian (look at picture) and my hair had never given me much trouble besides the fact that it was straight and boring. I went to LI to see if they could make me look a little more interesting.
My first cut was with Hayley (she's my fave now - more on this below), and since then I've been seen by two other stylists. All were friendly, knowledgeable and paid attention to what I wanted done with my locks. I never did anything drastic, but I always left the salon feeling a lot hotter and the compliments always led to an ego-boost which sure didn't hurt either. For all that, I think it's totally worth $35 + generous tip every time.
Back to Hayley. I like her for the following reasons: She always has a cool hair-do goin' on; seems to know exactly how much talking I'm interested in; and she is a perfectionist, much like myself.
WHEN YOU GO: They accept walk-ins, but I would call ahead and book an appointment. I like to take the MAX, but if you drive there is a Smart Park garage just across the street. LI has a nice waiting area with magazines and beverages. I love the shampoo you get before the cut because it's super relaxing and makes your hair smell earthy.
Some brows to raise your glass to
It may sound like a simple task, but I've had a heck of a time finding a salon that does a great job at waxing eyebrows. I'm happy to say that a great tip paid off at London Influence.
This place has a great reputation for color and haircuts, so popped in to make an appointment and happened to ask if someone was free to do my brows. I got right in and couldn't be happier with the arch and whole look. Oh, and I also sipped on a glass of wine while I was there. Now how can you beat that?
I'm really excited about my cut and color coming up because I've heard such great things about this place.
Tip: Call ahead to book for color or a haircut. This place is creating a lot of buzz.
It was fine, I originally wanted a dry trim, and ended up with a "full" hair cut, or at least charged one, even though I didn't really see the difference. Actually the stylist did a good job, but I'm on the quest for something amazing, and that wasn't it. HOWEVER, it wasn't bad either. I have no complaints, and not a whole lot in the way of praises either.
I heard real good things about this salon and was happy to get in, kinda last minute, before an interview I had down the street. My hairdresser called in sick and they gave me Dana instead. Dana was super nice, kinda momish for an upscale urban trendy salon. I have to say that I was disappointed with my hair cut. It seemed like for a while in my life, hair dressers always cut too much off. There was the fear of growing out a brutal chop. Now, lately tho I feel like I am not really getting a cut. You have to be pretty stern about getting some length off or a new style. I really wanted to have my hair looking shiny, healthy and styled for this interview and it looked a lot like it did when I walked in. Plus they charged me Dana's rate, which was higher than my original person. Why did I pay $50 plus tip for that?
I live in San Francisco and needed to find a salon in Portland that could accommodate three bridesmaids and two flower girls for a wedding at the Governor Hotel. The wedding was on the Sunday before Labor Day (most salons closed). The owner of London Influence happily opened the salon for our little group, for a small fee. He was up bright and early with the rest of us and did our hair according to our respective requests. Everyone was very happy with the way their styles turned out (and with the very reasonable prices). Because the wedding was in the evening and we had been getting ready in the morning, he invited two of us back for "touch ups." I am only sad that London Influence isn't in San Francisco and closer to where I live.
