This place is really cute and the staff is very nice, but it is just plain too small.  I took my 2 year old there and he had a nice time, but after we looked at the caboose and the engine, we were ready for more, but that was pretty much it.  The entire museum consists of one caboose and one engine (which is hooked up to a fuel truck that you can't get on).  There are three other trains outside of the museum which are just for looks.  Oh, there is a small indoor museum, which was okay.

If you do go, there is a donation tower thing that is pretty cool.  When your child puts a coin through the slot, it makes a train noise.

I'd like to say ditto to the other reviews. I'm just writing to concur & say that, if you HAPPEN to be in the area, have a half-hour of time to kill, have kids who are screaming for something to do and are sick of going to parks & playing on swingsets for the umpteenth time, THEN, you should take them here.

It's a cute little place and the people who run it do so with intense pride but it really isn't worth the trip from any place farther than ten miles away. we spent 3x the time driving there as actually being there. It is kind of fun to browse the brochures they have about other railroad experiences in the country because they were printed in 1984. Did we really dress like that? ugh!

I'm a huge fan of railroads since my childhood. I especially like to get up close to steam engines, and you can do that at the Lomita Railroad Museum. In fact, you can climb up into the cab of the only engine they have. You have to see all the valves and the levers and be amazed how anyone could drive something like that (or stop it).

The museum itself is really small. The engine is outside and not in operable condition. Then again, the tracks is sits on end just in front and behind it anyway. There is also a caboose near the engine and another across a field, but it always seems to be closed.

I think the museum is sort of lame and too pricey for admission. I don't mind if the admission cost went to restoration of the engine, but it seems a bit overdue for some TLC. However, being able to get into the cab and really getting a feel for how high you are and how little you can see forward is worth the admission fee once. Warning though, if you happen to have a baby with you, they will even charge admission for the baby. Ours was 8 months old and I had to pay for her too. If you have the attitude that you are supporting the museum and not paying to be entertained, it is easier to swallow.
