A last minute trip up to the snow brought me to Lombardi & I must say it was well worth it considering it's almost easier to hop onto the freeway and hit up Sports Authority.
I was in dire need of pants & goggles so I can enjoy a day of boarding on the slopes; this store couldn't have made me & my wallet happier. I spent a total of a little under$140 on Columbia pants (~$60), Smith goggles (~$20), a face mask (~$10) & Giro helmet (~$30). This was a W-I-N! What's even better about this store is the friendly customer service, deals on sporting goods and price matching (find the same product within 30 days and they'll match it)!
Lombardi Sports, you're my lifesaver. :) -

I have pretty mixed feelings about this place. First things first: Sports Basement will always be #1 in SF. Easily.
Very nice selection of higher end outdoor & cycling gear (patagonia, arcteryx, capo)--- not cheap prices, but that's what you'd expect.
Great sales on shoes--- 75% off in some cases. Pretty awesome.
Great selection on shoes- running shoes, casual shoes, etc.
Terrible selection for men's/women's athletic apparel--- I just think Nike, Asics, and Adidas are not quality brands for clothing--- especially when it comes to running shorts and sports bras (if you are actually running). You carry Brooks shoes, why not their shorts? Champion bras? Something that will work in more than just a yoga class?
The vibe is totally Dick's Sporting Goods, you could be a bit more laid back and personable (the staff were friendly, but a bit too robotic/ waiting around for someone to ask them for something).
Not bad, but you should spend some time at S.B. and realize what you're missing... -
Review from Vicky L.
Ever since I've started being a mild workout junkie (keyword: mild), I've become slightly obsessed with spending money at sports shops. When I saw a Groupon for Lombardi, I jumped on it stat, hoping for a happily ever after.
In some ways, Lombardi is like my Prince Charming:
+ Decent selection of athletic clothing, although I'm sort of a lulu snob.
+ Decent selection of shoes, but my favorite part is that they offer a wide variety of Sanuks, which, if you haven't worn them, are super duper comfy slip-ons. Unfortunately they don't have TOMS, which I was hoping they did.
+ Decent selection of random casual clothing, including Joe's Jeans and True Religion (?).
+ 1 hour free parking!
Unfortunately, Lombardi is like the ugly stepsister of Sports Basement in many other ways:
- Even though they do price-matching, most things I've found at SB were way cheaper. Plus, SB has been offering a 20% off everything until it snows. Seriously.
- Parking garage is tiny, and spots barely accommodate my small SUV, with just a wee bit of room for sliding out without banging the car door next to me.
- EXTREMELY unprofessional staff. This is the biggest kicker for me. I was waiting for a friend one time near the front, and I felt like I was standing in a high school boba shop. The cashiers and person who stands at the front door to give directions/check in bags seemed to all be in college or something, and they chattered loudly about their lives, even in the presence of customers. I'm sorry, I'm here to buy a yoga mat, not to hear about how you met your cousin's friend's girlfriend's cousin's smoking hot sister. At a party. And seriously, what is up with the rest of the staff throwing out random f-bombs at the front of the store while talking about the 49ers? I get that you're friendly with some of your customers, but I'd rather not hear about that stuff, thanks.
Because of my Groupon, I was forced to spend some money here. Now that it's done and over with, I'll be going back to Sports Basement, even when they stop offering discounts. -

I "liked" the store on Facebook and I always receive their updates. The most recent one was a 20% off coupon, so I printed it out. When I arrived at Lombardi, I asked one staff member if I could use the 20% coupon on discounted items and he told me to ask the cashiers. So I went to the cash registers and asked one of the cashiers. I'm glad they knew..they should, LOL.
I had a Groupon that I bought for $15 for $30 worth of goods. I didn't even know what Lombardi was.. LOL. I'm just a HUGE fan of Groupon! But before buying the Groupon, I researched on the place and it seemed to be a lot like a Sports Basement. So I bought it, hoping I would find something awesome! But the Groupon wasn't applicable to sale price items, and I couldn't use the 20% off coupon with it either. So I was in the store on a hunt for something I really liked that was reasonably and originally priced...
I found a Coal beanie for $30 flat! YAY! I still don't think $15 for that beanie was worth it though, or was it? Well, it's going to be keep me warm when I go out to the city again to celebrate the New Year!
I have to say, I LOVE their wide selection of items, from running gear, soccer gear, biking gear, etc, to snow gear! They have a LOT of stuff. But honestly, everything is overpriced. The only apparel that I would call "reasonable" would be the things hanging on their clearance racks. The sale items I found on those racks were the same price as something you would find ORIGINALLY priced at Sports Basement. What I also love about Lombardi Sports is that they have SO many sizes! I found XS's in everything I liked! There are so many different colors of The North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, Asics, Nike.. omg, it was heaven. But I'm going to stick with Sports Basement for the reasonable priced yet pretty gear.
The staff isn't very knowledgeable. Their service is on the negative side. I would label Lombardi Sports as a high end sports store, and the poor service there really doesn't match!
This one guy approached me and I didn't even know he was one of the staff members. Where was his name tag? At least wear an apron or something!
To sum it up- Sports Basement for the win. -

I have experienced better - way better. I've lived in this neighborhood a loooong time - and every time I went into Lombardi's I was met with less than friendly service and incompetence - therefore, I stopped going there years ago. I recently got a Groupon for Lombardi's because I thought I'd give it another chance. Interesting place - many staff didn't know how to use the Groupon - annoying. However, shoe department was very helpful and knowledgeable (about shoes) - other staff did not compare. The other thing is that everything is way overpriced - and half the bottom floor is now trendoid way overpriced street clothing. Really learned my lesson this time - no need to go back there since there's Sports Basement and Sports Authority in the City.

Contrary to what others have posted here, I think the staff here is great. Purchased a gift for Xmas, needed a bigger size, but lost the receipt. No problem! Rolled in, they didn't have XXL so they special ordered it, then processed a refund (they found the purchase in their system, plus it still had the price tag). The whole process couldn't have been more efficient. I'll definitely be heading back more often, even though it's on the other side of town.

I had a great experience in the shoe department and learned a few things about shoes and about my feet.
Their company website is horrible - impossible to navigate but my review is really about the shoe department.

I recently picked up tennis and have had the need to pick up some gear, seemingly almost every week. Not being familiar with the sporting goods store in town, I initially found Sports Basement, which left a lot to be desired, at least in the tennis department. Someone then kindly pointed me toward Lombardi Sports and I fell in love for the first time with a sporting goods store.
Lombardi Sports is two story high, puny in comparison to SB. Irregardless, I was able to find a good selection on shoes, apparel, and tennis gear. They claim to have better prices than the internet and are willing to do a price match. I bought a whole load of things on my first visit and quickly made my price comparisons after I got back home. Sure enough, their prices were better than what I could find on the web.
I also find their clerks to be knowledgeable, helpful and patient. I'm one of those people who ask a lot of questions and really weigh my purchase decisions on higher priced items. I can always rely on getting good help while shopping at the store and never felt the slightest bit of pressure.
Lombardi carries the latest selections and keep them updated on a regular basis. Great marked down racks for random sports apparel and shoes. Rewards card gives you even better discounts and the store. Plus, they offer free classes (check out their websites)! -

Nice store. Plenty of fine products from a variety of sport needs. While I was only half-shopping, I appreciated the selection and generally nice presentation. A lot different from Big 5, where the employees don't give a rats ___ about appearance!
There is one, my view point, MAJOR error... rude security staff. Said staff and I encountered each other at a space between a clothing rack and a display. Said staff made eye contact with me, then proceeded to meander as slow as humanly possible through this one-person sized space, preventing me from moving toward desired product. I say to him "move it" to which he later proclaims to his fellow staff, rather childlike "yeah, he just said that to me" as if I stomped on his clitoris.
As I was leaving the store I opted to go out the in door, which to me, as someone who chose not to purchase, was the easiest exit. Same security staff then shouts out to me "Hey, you gotta go out this way", as if he could do something about it, but, of course, only after I was three feet from the exit.
Here's a tip: If your security staff was courteous, doing his job instead of crying and wasn't such a wanna-be thug, it would go a long way. Real men who have dominion their emotions are more capable of providing sufficient security for others, all while projecting a positive image for his company.
My message to you, Rudy: Don't be a sucker! -

I discovered this place through Groupon. It's awesome! They have so much great equipment at outstanding prices. Moreover, their staff is courteous and knowledgeable. One of their specialists helped me pick out a pair of ski pants (I wouldn't know the difference between Pair A and Pair Z). He walked me through the types of ski pants, why different pairs cost different amounts, and what is best for my skiing needs. In addition to having a great staff, you can rent bikes, skis, snowboards, equipment, etc. from Lombardi Sports. I definitely will be going back there!

OK, so there's a store in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the world, and they agree to match online pricing? Pretty rad, right?
I got a great pair of used ski's bindings and boots here for a single ben franklin.
Not too bad. -

In the 10 years I've shopped at the store, I;ve found the customer service 'passable'.... today, shopping there, I found the experience abysmal {this is in the shoe department, and not during a particularly busy time}. I would agree with other customers' reviews on this site: that the selection is better than the customer service, which gets about a 'C' all said and done. For a high-end store I would advise they work to educate staff that customer service is an important part of what they're selling.

Lombardi is awesome!
They are a great local business in the heart of San Francisco. Their store is well stocked with running gear, shoes, and a TON of sale racks! They have parking under their store that they validated with a purchase.
The best part about Lombardi is their commitment to supporting local athletes! They recently let me have a fundraiser for Team in Training in the store and they made it go off without a hitch.
Next time you need any sports gear, seriously go check them out. -

This store is pathetic. Went there 3 weeks back to check out some watches. Alex, super friendly gal helped me and offered to speacial order the one I wanted. She put in the request and said it should prob take 2 weeks. After 2.5 weeks I called and asked for her, she said to talk to Maz, the buyer. Tried getting a hold of this "ghost" and got the run around. Guy never answers his phone or returns his calls. Bad sign.
First call first day, they put me to his VM and it was full. Hate that.
Second call second day, put through to his VM and left a msg. Never got a call back.
Third call second day, asked to speak to someone who could help me and nobody could. Nice! Was offered this clowns email address.
Second day, third attempt, emailed him and no reply.
Fourth call, third day, called and asked for Maz, put through to his VM. Did not leave msg... you see why???
Fifth call, third day, called and spoke to Gina (supervisor) after asking for manager or owner. She said someone called me and said the watch is on back order until November.
WTF???
Never got a call and November? Really???
So over this place! Wannabee Sports Basement! I have better luck at a consistent Big 5 or one of the other BIG BOX sporting goods store.
This store is WACK! -

This is my go-to place if I'm too lazy to make the trek to Sports Basement.
They have a great selection of sporting apparel, not always swim suits, bikes and bike gear. They also have amazing sales. My bf and I have gotten some killer deals on tri stuff!
They also sell Kiehl's! -

Review from Kevin W.
I've been a regular here for several months now. It's a pretty large store with all sorts of sports stuff, mostly exercise and recreational stuff like camping, hiking and biking. There's a nice section for sandals and shoes too. Lombardi also does the Groupon route often. I've already purchased 2 groupons for them ($20 for $40 worth of equipment). The Groupons don't work for sale or discounted items however.
I recently went here to get a pair of Adidas sneakers and the size that I wanted was a bit worn and used looking. So the manager was kind enough to give me 50% off. Very nice of them!
Overall the place has a lot of sports equipment and apparell you might be looking for, they may not be as large as Sports Authority or Sportsmart but again they may have a few technical products that they carry that larger sports stores don't carry. Prices here are high like most retail stores, but there are lots of sales and good deals to be had here regularly. And the staff is always helpful. -

Great store for decent prices on gear. TERRIBLE for bike service.
I've gone upstairs to talk to people and just about every time they are rude and seem bothered when you ask them for help. THEN, last week I paid $60 to have my wheels trued and the brakes adjusted... the guy talked down to me and said he'd do it and call me. No call. Then I pick it up and he told me he had to put on new pads, which he charged me for. No problem. I ride off... only to discover that he didn't install new brakes. So i take it to another shop and find out he didn't even true the wheels. B.S.. I won't be going back - especially for bike service.
Go with High Trails right next door. Awesome service, helpful and actually does the stuff they say they will. -

I came by the store on a whim tonight around 6 p.m. to see if I could leave my bike over the weekend to get my brakes tightened and a few things tuned up.
Well, the guy who was working in the bike shop was super nice and stayed after he got off of work at 6 p.m. and spent about 15 minutes tightening my brakes and the head, truing my wheels, putting air in my tires, etc., all really quickly and for an amazing deal, and for that I say: THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU JUST MADE MY WEEK! (And probably saved my life because it seems my bike was about to completely fall apart).
Really great bike repair shop, super nice staff, and VERY helpful. Having never gone here before, I was really surprised and pleased. I will definitely be coming back here to have more work done on my bike. -

I came here the first time after buying a $40 for $20 Groupon. I had passed the shop before but it never occurred to me to go inside - the outside murals look cheesy and dumb - and I got the Groupon only because I recently purchased a bike and needed gear (specifically - a helmet and a basket).
Upon entering I was instantly met with utter disappointment. It looked bleak and uninviting. I though my Groupon would go unused. The first thing I saw were racks of horrible apparel on sale. "Casual" attire in a sports shop is always a disaster, and Lombardi Sports is no exception. Had it not been for this Groupon that was now burning a hole in my pocket, I would have instantly turned around and left.
I decided to go through with it and walked past the casual section into sports wear. There was a large selection of top of the line shoes along the back wall, which was reassuring. The sports wear selection was meh. Most of it seemed like last seasons, and the women's section was tiny. I was about to go upstairs when I saw the Nike corner. Here, the selection was comparatively large and well-stocked, and for anyone who can't make it downtown to Niketown, this is a fair replacement. I tried on quite a bit (the dressing rooms were equally bare - and might I say gross - as the rest of the store. I accidentally stepped on the greasy carpet with my unclothed feet for a moment and thought I might instantly die of eww!).
I spent some time looking at their backpacks, also a fair selection (though I thought they were all ugly, except for one model), had a look at their running accessories (my favorite being colorful mini-fanny-packs) and went upstairs.
Upstairs is the biking, camping, baseball/team-sports section(I suppose? I'm not a team player so I skipped most of this, though I think I recognized baseball bats), including another wall of "pro" backpacks in the back. They had quite a few tents set up. A pretty large selection of bikes (one of which I fell in love with!), a bunch of helmets (a large number on sale), some biking accessories, a bike-work kind of area which I assume does bike repairs/adjustments etc... Not really anything break-taking though. I got some assistance in my bike basket questions, tried some helmets, looked at camelbacks and generally walked around indecisively.
The staff was both likable and helpful, and my gear was coming together. I was a bit disappointed that I ended up liking all these rather expensive products, when one of the employees introduced me to their price-match policy (here I might note that one of the earlier staff members who had been helping me out had not mentioned any of this, and though there are notes of it within the store, they were very inconspicuous and barely visible). On their customer computer at the top of the staircase I then started my price-check mission. I ended up finding the helmet for $5 less in another store, and the camelback for a whooping $10 less. Upon this they immediately matched said prices for me (note: their price-match includes only physical stores, not online purchases).
Cool, I got two things cheaper already! I looked around some more, checked out a little bit of everything (a nice selection of heart-rate monitors!) and by the time I was ready to leave some 3 hours had passed, wow!! Through the magic of my miraculous Groupon and my online price-detective skills, my purchase was super affordable and dare I say cheap! (Of course this Groupon advantage is denied to many).
As it turns out I absolutely love this store! Could it be the helpful staff, the great purchases or my love for shopping? I think it is a little bit of all three! I don't know when my next visit will be, and I fear it can never compare to this first experience (that started so miserably!), but Lombardi Sports turned out to be a not-so-ugly duckling after all (well, metaphorically speaking. Physically, it is)!
Sincerely,
A sports store dilettante -

With the only competition being Sports Basement, Lombardi's could really take advantage of a city person. Fortunately they don't. The selection is simply amazing. Not just limited to sporting goods, they carry Lacoste, Ben Sherman, Chrome and Timbuk2. Great brands at great prices. Sports Basement has them beat by a little on price, but there is no beating the convenience if you live in the area. Have had bike repairs performed here as well, they didn't even charge me when all was said and done. Thanks!

More of a clothing store than anything. They do have a pretty huge selection of Marmot/North Face (although nothing heavy duty for cold) and have other stuff like Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, etc.
As far as actual outdoor stuff, it is slim pickings, and the employees are neither knowledgable nor friendly.
Also, things are actually marked up higher than MSRP and some of it is then put "on sale" back to MSRP.
Shady...but that being said...their selection of casual North Face stuff is pretty large.Comment from Team L. of Lombardi Sports 11/17/2011

We came to San Fran to be tourists and wanted to bike the city. Instead of using the typical touristy bikes that are impossible to make it up the hills with, we decided to rent our bikes from lombardis. it was way cheaper and the bikes were really good bikes making it an easy ride for the day. we worked with michael, who was awesome and so willing to help us. since there were only road bike avaliable, which was $10 more than the hybrid bikes he threw in free water bottles for us and gave us locks to use for the day. one of the locks we got didn't open so he ended up refunding us for one of the bike rentals. he was great to work with and the store has awesome bikes to rent for the day. i would totally do it again!

I had been a regular with Lombardi until the service in the tennis dept started going down hill. Although their racquet restringing is not cheap they used to do a good job. Recently had 3 racquets restrung costing $130. Played once and the strings broke. I called and brought the racquet back to the store. They ended up not restringing them with what I on the racquets, but also did not replace the grip as requested. After my third trip to the store I gave up.
Would suggest finding another store for your tennis needs. -

Years ago, I bought ski gloves from them, used them for one weekend and:
(a) the lining of became separated from the outer glove, and
(b) the dye used on the leather left a stain on my wrists which lingered for about two days.
I went to complain about shoddy product and return them. I said I would be fine w store credit.
The manager on duty made me feel like it was my fault I bought them, and that I should have known better.
I was taken aback. I countered Lombardis should stand behind everything they sell. this went back and forth for a while, until he finally said "I will not give you a refund, I will give you store credit!" as if he was doing me a huge favor.
this whole transaction took place at the cashier counter, and the other cashiers just stood there averting their eyes. -

My review is based solely on the customer service I received during my recent bike fit with Brian. I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. He really tuned in and listened to what was and what was not working about the current configuration of my bike. In spite of the fact that I was using an unfamiliar style of saddle (it is really a weird one (Spiderflex)), he was able to adapt his fit with careful observations, measurements and questions. I look forward to hitting the road and putting all of his hard work to the test of time. Already, I am feeling the absence of my previous issues that stemmed from an outdated fit from a year previous.
Thanks Brian!!! -

My first experience with Lombardi, I was looking for a replacement strap for my older (2006) Flow bindings. I showed the employee the part, she went to the back, rummaged through the box of Flow parts and came back with exactly what I needed. Having heard that older Flow parts (especially the screws) are next to impossible to find, I was extremely grateful that they had the extra parts. And free!
I've been back there since for general sporting equipment needs. They aren't a specialty store (except for maybe their biking department) so if you are looking for something specific, they might not have it. But if you ask nicely, they'll tell you other places to try as well.
Prices are what you would expect for a general sporting goods store.
Would do business with again. A+. -

Awesomeness! I snowboarded for the first time a couple of weekends ago, and it was fun! So of course I had to pick up a board and all the gear that goes along with it. I didn't want to spend too much on a board since I am a "newbie" so I went down to Lombardi and spoke with the staff there. They informed me of the correct size board, bindings, boots, etc etc that I needed. I didn't do all my purchases at Lombardi since they usually have the newest gear, but I did pick up a helmet and gloves among other items.
It seems as if Lombardi has a ton of selection compared to Sports Authority. I will not be shopping at Sports Authority anymore :) Not with the knowledgeable staff at Lombardis!
They had a big rental counter too, so if you wanted to try a sport out, rent the gear first and see if it fits your groove.
There is validated parking with a purchase in the store. -

I can't remember the instructors name but she moved a perfect pace, was calming and informative. It made for a perfect start to my day and I will definitely be back. If you are a Nob Hill/Russian Hill resident, it is a must!

My first impression about this store was its a small business competing with sports basement, REI and the other chains by selling over priced items but after visiting this place a few more times I have realized that the prices are competitive and this place has more to offer than the other stores.
The merchandise itself is okay and I thought they had a good mix of sports wear for every sport and outdoor activity. I thought some of them were overpriced but most of the stuff is reasonably priced.
However the reason I am a fan of this place: they have a very helpful staff and the person at the ski rental area was very helpful in explaining about the ski's shoes for a novice like me. Although he knew that we were not planning to buy anything he was very patient with us.
The ski rentals are the best in the city (15 bucks a day and 10 for an additional day)but its advisable to pick them as early as Thursday evening if you are planning to ski on the weekend. I still have to try the rental equipment though. -

Always a very welcoming experience and nice Sunday trip to get a few errands done.
In particular, I went in with a confused look on my face, a snowboard boot that scratches my foot in the worst possible way, and a yelp for help- lo and behold, Alex in the ski/snowboard repair section was so helpful! Although there were no actual repairs, she was able to be creative with the machinery and figure out a way to heat and iron out the bump- I went boarding for a week and didn't feel a bit of pain afterward! Because of the customer support and the "neighborhood" type of feel that Lombardi Sports exudes, I've been back several times and now I shop more frequently at Lombardi Sports vs other sports stores.
Thanks!! Be back soon. :) -

so far i can only speak for the snowsports section - they seemed to have a great selection and were very helpful. bonus points for being the only bay area dealer for Moment skis and being able to special order the model i wanted. bindings were on sale + a 15% off coupon.
they also mounted free w/ purchase of both skis/bindings (similar or better deal than REI/etc)
free garage parking w/ validation makes it less painful to get here from the east bay. -

The one star is for the terrible service.
The merchandise is OK, it's your average sports store with a limited selection, but the service is terrible.
I went to buy some running shoes, and when the clerk brought me my size, she set the boxes on a bench, made sure I saw them, then walked away to keep chatting with friend. I had to walk up to her to request alternate sizes and styles! When she brought them back to me, she handed them to me and then walked away for a second time!!
It's basic shoe-store service if you are shopping at some place nicer than payless shoes- If I'm buying $100+ shoes, help me try them on, and work with me so you are sure I get the right pair!! -

They've got some good merchandise and there are some helpful people inside the store - but it seems as if it's the exception and not the rule.
The phone etiquette (from the first person answering the phone no less) is laughably rude. Management might want to have someone else that gives a crap answering their phone. (FYI - I called at about 10:20am on 3/29/11) -

I went in to get my bike worked on, it needed a pretty serious tune-up. They turned it around in less time than they quoted which was cool, and my bike definitely felt much better, the brakes tightened, wheels rebalanced, and derailers and chain cleaned and adjusted.
My bike has a fair number of miles on it though, so after a decent ride, I kept hearing the noise that I had brought it in for initially. So I brought it back in, a little nervous that I was going to have to drop more money.
The main bike tech took a look at it and immediately noticed my rear wheel was seriously out of tune again - neither of us could explain why. This was definitely not the case when I left Lombardi the first time, but I also hadn't really done anything to cause it to be so bad, certainly not after a two of my normal rides. He was really cool about it though and rebalanced it on the spot in around 5 minutes. The sound is now totally gone and I'm very happy with their job. -

This could be a nice place to find sport and ski gears in San Francisco. However my past experience with them was awful.
- 2 years ago we rented ski and boots, when we arrived at the ski ressort we found out that they gave us to left boots. We wasted 1 h to rent new shoes and when we complained they told us that we should have checked before leaving the store....
- This morning I went over there to buy cotton turtlenecks for my kids. The people at the store made fun of me telling me that cotton turtlenecks was not fashioned anymore and that we should buy this $100 plastic crap which are "way better" and way more expensive...
I don't like their attitude, I don't like the poor service they offer and I really wonder how come a shop like this can survive in the city. -

Worst phone etiquette I have EVER experienced...I called today to find out more information about snowboard rentals, since the website has none (pretty lame, but not what I am writing about). I spoke with two people and both were extremely rude to me.
The first person who answered the phone was a woman, and before I could even finish telling her what I was calling about, she hung up and transferred me to the rentals department. I was slightly annoyed by her lack of customer service, but I brushed it off.
Next I spoke with a man the rentals department. I explained, once again, why I was calling, and he simply said "and...??" like I was a complete waste of his time. After I finally got the pricing out of him, he made it very clear that the conversation was over, even though I had more questions.
I have never stepped foot in this store, and I do not plan to after my experience today. Why would I spend more money to deal with an apathetic staff, when I could go over to Sports Basement? First impressions really do count.
