Useful facts that they fail to put on their answering machine.
Hours
9:30-5 M-F
9:30-6 Sat
However, they NEVER show up on time to open the shop. They are usually 15-30 minutes late every time I have been there.
They only except cash or checks. No credit cards
They don't know how to program their answering machine.
Just bangs, $7.
OMG one of the WORST experiences EVER. I wish I could report them to the hair cutting police!
my daughter: 3 years old, never had a 'real' haircut. Super curly hair down to her butt, gorgeous but getting unmanageable. we decide it's time for a cut and I look up places for kids to commemorate the experience.
oh and we're going to donate her hair to Locks of Love. I've donated my own hair but I still go ahead and review on their website the donation procedures. There is a video explaining the simple process: 1. pull hair into ponytail 2. measure 10 inches from the longest piece (layers are ok) 3. cut above the ponytail
when I mention to the woman who I am pretty sure was the owner that we want to donate, she immediately says "we don't do that". I explain that she doesn't have to do anything, just basically cut above the ponytail I'll do the rest. We argue for a few moments back and forth about it. She says the hair isn't long enough, I say it is. Argue again, the next thing I know, I turn to my mother exasperated and as soon as I turn my head the woman had grabbed my daughters hair with one hand and chopped with the other! no ponytail, no measuring, NOTHING, JUST CHOPPED IT OFF!!!
the place stood still. I held my breath and didn't want to cause a scene in front of my kids, but my daughter looked in the mirror and liked it, so we all got a grip and didn't bum rush the lady. boy was she lucky.
so the end result was it was one of the worst customer service experiences in my life. my daughter ended up with a cute bob, but instead of the 10 inches needed for Locks of Love, she had CHOPPED OFF SIXTEEN! yes, 16 inches that was luckily able to salvage and send off.
nightmare experience
I took my kids here for almost 2 years and put up with the attitude because my son LOVED the decor and the way the place is set up. BUT this last time I had an appointment for my 2 kids and husband and we waited an HOUR and she kept taking walk ins and people who had appts after us. Finally when she put one of my kids in the chair I had to change his diapers and told her it would literally take 1 minute and I came out of the bathroom and she had taken someone else!!!!
My kid went crazy, woke up the baby and then she tried to pull out that other kid to give us our appt that was 1 hour late!!!
Besides that she won't listen to what you want so you better be okay with being totally screwed.
Once I asked for a bowl cut and she gave him a boy cut.
They really are rude and HORRIBLE.
I took my kids and walked out and told her we're NEVER coming back!!!
I took my son there today to get a hair cut. I was very pleased by the haircut at first, but when I asked the younger lady to clean up the sideburns, she first said "That how it go to side." I explained to her that his side burns are always neat and straight. She then said it was from the previous hair cut, then started talking in a foreign language to the older lady. The older lady said my son's hair was too course because he is older now.
Really lady? He gets his hair cut every two weeks and I never had any problems with the side burns.
For $16 + tip, I expect an awesome haircut, not just the experience. The employees were rude and unprofessional. I will not be back again.
We went here on recommendations three years ago and they did a really nice job on my daughter's hair. Since then, we have been here for every haircut as I'm very impressed with the cuts. My son just got his first haircut last weekend and they did a marvelous job, gave us a little certificate with his hair in it, very cute!
They specialize in children cuts but also do cuts for adults, so it's very convenient when mom or dad needs a cut too.
The kids sit in small, antique looking cars and they play videos on TV. They also have a great playroom in the upstairs loft area with plenty of toys and video games.
I recommend calling ahead for an appointment as this place is very popular and can be extremely busy.
I'm COMPLETELY unimpressed. I wish I could give negative stars.
I've had some very positive experiences there, but not in recent years. My now 4 year old gave herself a haircut when she was 1.5 and they were nice enough to turn it into a modified bowl cut...which was more forgiving than I thought it would be. That was good.
When they first opened and had NO business at all, I took my then 1 year old son (now almost 6) for a haircut and they did a great job...even taking digital pics of him and sending them to his daddy at work.
I've been there once or twice in the interim and though it was nothing to write home about, the location is good, parking is convenient, and the playroom is really cool. The last time I was there, at the beginning of the summer to get my 4 year old's hair trimmed, I lamented to the stylist that my oldest daughter (10) has a horrible texture to her hair. She said, "grow it out for the rest of the summer, and I'll cut it in layers before the school year starts."
We've been waiting all summer for this.
I did have an appointment this morning but slept in. We were 40 minutes late. I understand being treated as a walk-in at that point, because I was excessively tardy...but seriously? Having me wait a fucking hour before calling my daughter? Why not just ask me to reschedule at xxx time? If it weren't for the fact that my two younger ones were completely enamored with the loft playroom, I'd have left.
When V did finally make her way into the chair, I gave her my instructions, reminding her what she said when we were there last. As she holds a strand of my daughter's hair, she asked with her nose scrunched up, "So... what DID you want me to do with this?"
Um....
So she went to work. Disgusted when the comb didn't make its way through my daughter's coarse hair (hey, I warned her!), she reached for a brush. She scrunched her nose again, and asked my daughter, "Did you wash your hair?"
I said "YES, she washed her hair."
"When was THAT?"
"Yesterday."
"Hmm. Must have been early yesterday. Hey V, when you wash, you need to RINSE. Rinse REALLY WELL, OKAY?"
My daughter's got fucked up hair, she's not deaf, and she's certainly not stupid. And what a way to treat a fucking 10 year old. Bitch should stick with giving bobs to 3 year olds, sprinkling them with glitter, and shoving lollipops into their mouths.
What we were left with at the end was:
V's hair was one inch shorter. Layers my ass. Her hair looks TERRIBLE. Paying $16 for that haircut was MY fault, but there was no way I was tipping that rude ass.
I'm NEVER going back, nor will I EVER recommend anyone to go there.
I love this place all 3 of my children come here. We love the seats vroom vroom, the haircuts, and the lollipops. The girls always cut my kids hair exactly like what I say. I love this place..
Where was this place when i was a kid? We brought our daughter here for her first haircut. As soon as we got in she went straight for the toys and wanted to play with the other kids that were waiting. While she was distracted I checked in and was kindly greeted and told that the stylist would be with us in 5 minutes. It wasn't even a minute before the lady greeted us. She was very pleasant with our daughter and tried to talked to her. If it wasn't for our daughter so caught up with the pink car she was now sitting in and Disney's Cars movie playing on the screen above, she might have said hi to her.
The haircut was very simple and more like a trim if anything (i blame my GF on this style selection). through the whole process she was gentle and interacted with my daughter when ever she peeled away from the movie. They even combed and put a nice pink bow in her hair! When we were done I could not get my daughter to leave the place.
Any place that makes my daughter happy and great service is good in my book. Only con is its pretty pricey for just a trim, once again this might have been because of our style selection.
Give it a shot! If you dont like it im pretty sure your kids will.
The Great Things:
1. LOOVE the playroom! It is just wonderful! We will certainly turn the next visit into more a play time activity as my son was very disappointed to have to leave so soon.
2. Great hair cut!
3. Good price -- 16 bucks
To Work On:
1. They need more staff -- especially someone to answer the phones. They were very short with me on the phone and when I walked in, I realized why -- they only had two people there to do everything!
2. While they have a great set up and offer lollipops to the kids in order to get them to comply -- what they really need are kid-friendly staff members and then they would not need all of the lollipops to get the kids to sit down. The woman who cut our hair seemed like a short order chef.
3. A nice to have -- some stuff for people who come in with infants in addition to their toddlers. A place to put them in the playspace? In the work area?
4. They need to accept credit cards -- we are in the 21st century right?
I am going to stray from the pack here and give this place the five stars it deserves after my visit there today with my son. I am really surprised the reviews aren't better.
My two year old son has been getting his hair cut at the barber with his dad and I was tired of the really scraggly, uneven buzz cuts he was getting. On a whim, I decided to visit Lollipop today. I called at 10:00 AM. and asked if I could come in an hour. I was told that was fine. It was Monday morning and of course, at 11 AM. there was no wait. If you can go during the week, I am sure that this enhances the experience.
When I walked in one of the ladies said hi and then warmly greeted my son by his first name. She then proceeded to ask him if it was okay to put him in the fire truck chair. She got a little toddler booster with straps and set it inside the chair. I put him inside the chair and then she told him she was going to strap him in, which she proceeded to do. She then turned on a child's program. My son is really shy but he took to her immediately. At every step of the way, she told him what she was going to do before she did it. I had a seat near the magazine rack and my son forgot about me. He is usually clinging to my husband when he gets a cut at the barbershop.
The lady that cut his hair was holding his head really firmly for much of the time like one of the other reviewers said, but you know what, that is OK. She is wielding clippers and scissors near my son's face and kids can be unpredictable. My son didn't seem to mind at all. He was relaxed the whole time.
This would have been enough to keep me coming back, but the best part is that she did a fantastic job on the cut. She gave him a very trim and clean fade up the back with the buzzer and then hand cut, with scissors the top and upper back part. It looked like he had an actual haircut with a style to it. He looks so cute. Finally a haircut that doesn't look like he got attacked by the buzzer!
When my son woke up from his nap, his hair still looked good. When my husband came home from work he noticed immediately and said that it is the best cut he has gotten.
We will definitely be back. Worth every penny.
Wow, do I have a interesting comment....
I recently moved to Saratoga from Woodland Hills, Ca. and needed to find a new kids salon for my family. I used to take my kids to Okie Dokie Kids Salon which is a fantastic place. I went to a nearby place called Lollipop Cuts, but we found the service to be poor and the place a little dirty for our standards.
Anyway, here is the interesting part...I looked on the net for other alternatives and found http://lollipopcuts.com again. However, I couldn't believe my eyes, Lollipop Cuts literally stole the photo gallery pictures from the Okie Dokie Kids Salon web site and passed them as their own! Even the listed services and products were plagiarized. What a small world we live in. Lollipop Cuts recently put an under construction page on there web site, but you can still see the cache links on google or yahoo and see where there totally took things from http://www.okiedokie.tv.
I'm glad yelp is here to provide community feedback, I will never go back to the Lollipop salon again. Not only was the service poor, but their business practices are highly questionable.
Thumbs up -
1) great haircut. bobs are really difficult to make look good, and they ALWAYS do an excellent job.
2) the place is really cute, and the big flat-screen tv really helps my daughter get through the cut. the playroom upstairs is great too
3) they finish the cuts with really cute glitter and a barrette you can use again.
Thumbs down -
1) they are a little rough with the kids. they tend to grab their face and hold it to get them to stay still.
2) they are a little bossy with the parents. they basically told me to go sit down one time when my daughter was freaking out. they should respect the parent's parenting and let them do whatever they need to to calm their child down
after trying cubby cuts in mountain view, i think lollipop is definitely better.
After taking my daughter to another place and watching a little boy scream when the LOUD razor came toward his head, I opted not to take my 1 year old son there.
After a friend recommended Lollipop Cuts, I thought I'd give it a try. We went in without an appointment and were immediately seated. They were friendly and my son didn't cry, so that was a good start.
My son did really well for about 15 minutes, but then, the last 5 or so minutes he had had it and started crying off and on. I am not sure if it's because the lady was talking on her cell phone at that point or whether it was something else. Of course, he's only a year old, so it could just be because he was tired of sitting there.
I would go back, even though the woman took the phone call. I thought she could have waited since he had been in the chair for over 10 minutes at that point and wasn't finished yet. In my mind, it would be better to ring the caller back rather than take the call while trying to cut a one-year old's head of hair.
But, overall, the experience was a positive one. My son has a nice haircut and he wasn't traumatized. :D
The other plus to this establishment versus the other kid place I had went to is that the "cars" have safety belts in them to harness the kids in - a definite must for toddlers. At the other place, I saw a 10 month old writhing around so much he almost fell through. The mom had to hold him in there.
Oh, word of warning - they don't accept credit cards. Check and cash only.
I've been taking my children here for well over a year now, and usually, it's a good experience, but today I am very unhappy! I took them in today, got my son's hair cut, which was done well by the way. When it came time to cut my daughter's hair, she started to get a little difficult. I was impressed with how the lady was able to calm her down. We agreed on a long bob, I asked her how long her hair would be after the cut, she said chin length, which was fine. When she was done, I kid you not, her hair comes to the bottom of her ears. :( I know it's just hair and it will grow back, but when you tell a parent that the hair will be a certain length, you need to stick to that. If she made a mistake, she should have said something to me. She received no tip today, and I'm going to find a new salon for my kids. This is the second time she has cut my daughter's hair too short.
I've been taking my son here for three years and have never had to wait more than five minutes. I've always made an appointment for a non-busy time, e.g., when the older kids are in school. Today I took my almost two-year old daughter for her first haircut and she loved sitting in the car next to her big brother and having her hair cut too. She got a pretty barette and glitter in her hair too, which she loved!
The kids love going upstairs to play in the toy wonderland and love the lollipops they get as a bribe/reward afterwards.
The stylists were patient and kind with the kids, more so with my daughter than my son though. I can kind of see what some of the others were saying about not having the most kid-friendly workers in the universe, but I have never had a problem with that. They have never been mean - I'd describe it more as abrupt and business-like, only when my son was not cooperating.
My only complaint would be the cost. It does seem extreme to pay $16 + tip for a child's simple haircut or trim.
I've been bringing my son here for several years now, probably since he was in preschool. They remember him and call him by name. The cuts have always been good, and the price is moderate--$16. I've occasionally taken my son to other salons, and paid more and paid less, but we come back here. They know him, they cut his hair well, the game room keeps him occupied if we don't have an appointment and have to wait, AND there's a See's Candies in the same shopping center. I recommend this business.
*VERY* snooty attitude here. I brought my dd here, numerous times and a very well SHY behaved young lady BTW. The hair stylist was rolling her eyes as my daughter has very fine and thin hair which tangles easily. Even though I brushed it well to begin with. Yes, they have all the cutesy child themes (and even market tons of OVERPRICeD toys/candies that dangle precariously in front of your little one's eyes--careful parents), but for me attitude is everything. You would expect a more warm and kid friendly approach. My children are pretty timid also.
I have brought my children here numerous times and I didn't get any friendly, kid-friendly, vibes from them. No biggie, however, due to this last visit stylist's attitude I have decided to venture out to a more kid friendly place.
Lollipop Cuts is conveniently located for me (it's in the See's plaza in the Westgate neighborhood of San Jose), and has always been easy to get into. They take appointments, but we've never waited long when we walk in. The place is cheerfully decorated and has a loft full of toys that is popular with my 2-year-old and my 8-year-old. The women who work here are very friendly and patient with my little screamer. They just chuckle as he yells "NO HANDSOME HAIRCUT!" at the top of his lungs. They have little vehicles for the toddlers to sit in while they get a haircut, TVs to try to get them to sit still while the scissors are flying about, toys to play with while they wait and lollipops upon mission accomplished. I would give this place 5 stars if it were cleaner. The toys could use the occasional wipe down and there could be a little more tidying up between clients.
This was my son's first haircut, and my girlfriend and I's first visit to this type of strictly-for-kids hair salon, so I don't really have any basis for any comparison. I did find the overall experience to be very good. We did a walk-in at about 3pm on a Saturday. There were a couple of kids ahead of us and another appointment walked in, but they said it would be 20 minutes, and that's about how long it was. We waited in the upstairs loft area without a problem as there were plenty of toys to keep my son occupied. He was eventually seated in a neato red retro convertible and the haircut went through pretty much without a hitch in about 10 minutes. The hairdresser did a great trim exactly to our specifications. He went from Abbey Road to With The Beatles like that.
No complaints here. Yeah, she might not have said much while cutting, but ya know, for me, I'd rather her be how she was, steady and concentrating on holding his head steady and anticipating possible sudden movement when doing cuts near vulnerable spots like eyes and ears. Also got a free First Haircut Certificate with some of his hair for his baby book. All in all, I would go here again, remembering that I should make an appointment and that they only accept cash or check.
This place gives great haircuts for kids. They have cute little cars for them to sit on while they have their hair cut and watch tv at the same time. The lady who cuts her hair was good at making suggestions on her hairstyle.. really appreciate that.
Lollipop Cuts sure beats Supercuts! Natalie does a great job with both girls' and boys' haircuts. Her bob cuts are precise, and she finishes them off with glitter spray and a complimentary barrette or bobby pin--nice touch for the little princesses! She also does a good job with buzzes--follows directions regarding the length and will scissor-cut the top so as to avoid that cueball look. There is a kids' playroom upstairs which will keep the siblings busy, for sure. Although they do take walk-ins, I recommend calling ahead for an appointment as this place is extremely popular and therefore extremely busy.
Be prepared to wait 15 to 20 minutes even if you have an appointment. This establishment is habitually behind schedule because they overbook their appointments and they take some to walk in customers even though they have customers with appointments coming in shortly. This shop is only for the extremely patient and for those that like wasting time sitting around.
