THE BEST CARNE ASADA FRIES IN THE WORLD!
For you people that think you had good carne asada fries, we'll you better try out Lolitas first before you decide what's the best carne asada fries you ever had.
First time I had carne asada fries was at Super Sergios because it was down the street from my high school but one day my homeboy Willin brought me here I fell in love with this place though it was a smaller location but i'm glad they moved into a bigger location where they are currently at right now.
They actually take the time to make sure the carne asada beef is up to there expectation. The fries are golden crisp that melts in your mouth with the cheese& guacamole.
Also try out the California Burrito, Carne Asada Fries in a burrito! c'mon now! I've even got visitors from out of state and other cities in cali i've brought them here and they all adore and love it! I wouldn't bring them to no other mexican joint other than Lolitas!
They have a phoenomenal condiments section (hot sauce, green sauce, carrots, green onions). The staff is very friendly.
TIP FOR THOUGHT: **Please call them ahead of time and order by phone** Saves alot of your time!
I will constantly come here over & over again for my carne asada fries fix. Peace Yelp Heads!
Best carne asada fries in the world? Best taco shop? I don't think so. Ha. UM, Lolita's is OK. My mom picked up food from here since she was in the area. Carne asada fries, a cali burrito, and a shrimp quesadilla. The fries are a tad bit too salty for me and they don't put enough cheese. The cali burrito was bland. The shrimp quesadilla was yummy I'll give em that. The hot sauce/salsa SUCKS! I've ordered rolled tacos from here before and those also SUCK. How do you mess up rolled tacos?
So glad there are better taco shops by my house.
If I had to make a comparison
Vaqueros + El Nuevo + Jilbertos = Rolls Royce
Lolita's + Super Sergios = Like hopping into a Hyundai Elantra
After years of not visiting this place, I finally made my way back to this joint after it had moved a couple units over from where it use to be. I mean, thank goodness they moved because their old location was just too small! Now, that they have improved, I have noticed that on every visit, the joint tends to get a little crowded and busy which is good!
Before their improvements, I was not happy with how they use to prepare certain items, but now I have noticed a substantial amount of change which is great! I never have to be afraid of some piece of metal stuck in my burrito ever again! I'm always a fan of their carne asada fries and rolled tacos as I have noticed how well and freshly prepared these items have been lately. As long as they keep this up, they will continue to do well in their location and I, as a loyal customer will continue to make my frequent stop-ins :). Thank you mama Lolitas!!!
Good breakfast burritos, but wish they would serve them all day. There are just times you want breakfast for dinner, if you know what I mean.
Best Mexican food....not by a long shot. Don't like their lunch/dinner menu, it's just okay.
I ordered their Carne Asada Fries because I LOVE the ones that I get from the Clairemont store but this place was just Meh. I liked that they packed the box so that when I opened it, the food was in the shape of the top part of the box (LOL) but there was way too much fries. There wasn't enough guacamole/sour cream so it was kind of dry. They have a couple other mexican places in that area that could make better carne asada fries than this place. if you really want Lolitas, go for the one in Clairemont.
So I'm always hearing about things that mention the number 2 and the number 1. "2 for the price of 1" or "2-in-1" or "2 girls 1 cu.." uhhh nevermind that last one. So after a long 12 hr shift today, I decided to finally go after that "2-in-1" burrito. As I'm driving down, I decide to call ahead and place my order. Smart decision, because once I got there I noticed how packed it was! Got my burrito, paid and then bounced.
~~~fast forward~~~
i conquered that bad boy. I'm so damn full, but at the same time I am motivated. So motivated that I decided to write my Freestyle Friday(a few hours early) review on this burrito.
to the tune of "8 Mile Road" by Eminem...enjoy!!
Sometimes I just feel like
Eating what's not right
What am I eating tonight?
LOLITA'S in plain sight
Sometimes it's hard enough eating healthy in my life
Sometimes I wanna go home and just eat rice
Because all my people know what that's like
But I'm half white
Sometimes I just eat lite
But that ain't right
How bout beans and rice?
Lolitas sounds real nice
Drawing a blank like
"Uh ... da da da da"
3 Rolled tacos?
Cravin' burritos
My insides crawl
Can I just man up?
The door just slam shut
Im just gonna do it
Rolled tacos with Carne asada strips
I have just ordered it
So I must then get
A large Horchata with it
Please make it quick!
Yo, I'm taking this thing home
My mouth freakin waters as I bite into the Burritooo
I'm a man
I have a new plan
Time for me to just go in and order from the man
Time for me to just take the burrito into my own hands
Once I take that first bite, man I'ma never look back
And I'm gone
I know right where its going
Sorry, my tummys growin
I must eat all alone
Ain't gon' share no pieces I'm eating all on my own
Only way that I know how to eat this 2-in-1 Burrito
This 2-in-1 burrito reminds me of the times where I used to put my Jack in the Box tacos right in between my Jumbo jack.
Damn....what the heck was i thinking??
It's been many years since I've been to Lolita's. I think that when you live in San Diego, you take for granted how many good Mexican places there are!
After a somewhat short trip to Horton Plaza this afternoon, my friend said she was hungry. We drove through the old 'hood - Mickey D's, Jack, Filipino food. Then it hit me: Mexican food!
Lolita's was the closest place we could think of. Then my next thought was "Mm... Carne Asada Fries!" Num num nummy!
When we got there, I was somewhat overwhelmed by the menu. I mean, my usual order is gonna be carne asada something (i.e., burrito or fries) or rolled tacos. On this glorious day, I decided Carne Asada fries and drink of choice: Horchata!!
When the lady told me what my total was, my eyes almost bugged out. The Carne Asada fries are listed on the "sides" menu but cost more than a carne asada burrito!
However, when my order was called and I approached the counter, my eyes bugged out again. Whoa mamacita! What I saw before me was a plate of Carne Asada fries. It covered every inch of that standard 10" or so plate.
If you don't know what Carne Asada Fries are, here's the description: Shoestring fries smothered with guac, sour cream, melted cheddar cheese and sprinkled with the Mexican white cheese (I am not sure what it's called, sorry!) and tender pieces of Carne Asada sent from Heaven mixed in.
The Carne Asada itself was tender, cut in perfect thin slices and had a bit of a kick! Very peppery! I almost didn't need the hot sauce!
But the goodness doesn't end there! The Horchata was ddddddddeee-lish! First of all, it didn't look like dirty mop water. It was white and creamy and not overly sweet. It was the perfect mix! I haven't had Horchata like that ever!
I finished off the Horchata but couldn't finish the fries. I think I ate 1/5th of it. If my body could hold all that meat, cheese and cholesterol, I'd polish off that puppy for sure.
Lolita's: Thank you for blessing me with a great dinner and drink. I will be back soon!
NOTE: They accept credit cards but I believe there is a minimum purchase of $5. I don't think that'd be a problem for anyone!
Also, a side note: On our way to Lolita's, my friend noticed the horse crossing sign. Then I told her although I've been at that intersection many times, I'd never seen a horse. We turn and guess what I see? A horse! I then said, "You know what? I never win anything!" Damn... Should've bought a lottery ticket!
Friends: "You try that 2 in 1 burrito?"
Me: "Wat?!?!? That sounds crazy!!"
Friends: "Yep!"
So, we went to Lolitas to try out the burrito. As the employee handed me the burrito, I had a look in my face of astonishment. I didn't realize that this burrito was going to be that huge. The first bite of the burrito felt so good. 2 tacos and carne asada are the best fulfilling combination. So, come here and try out their 2 in 1 burrito. It is Worth iT!!!!
By far the best taco shop in town. Their Carne asada burrito was so damn good. After, a round of golf this place hits the spot. My only probem with them is that they aren't open 24 hours.
When I first moved to SD, my friend brought me here to take my carne asada fries virginity. Haha! I tried to finish a whole order by myself, and I swear I almost had a heart attack. I usually have to share with another person. It's hella good with that red salsa and some lime.
I've tried Super Sergio's only once... And it was nasty compared to this.
As good as their Carne Asada Fries may be...I don't think it's worth dropping eight (8) dollars and sixteen (16) cents.
I remember the good ol' days when fries were no more than six (6) bucks. Loaded with guacamole, sour cream, meat, cheese.
I am not averse to the fries or to their other food. It didn't take very long to get my order. Just enough for them to cook it and top it off with all the toppings. Usually they take forever and a day. They weren't that busy when I came.
Parking is kinda lame, but if you MUST MUST MUST have carne asada fries, Lolita's is not a bad stop, then again there's so many taco shops around the area, Colima's, Cotijas...etc.
Maybe it's best if you split them with a friend so you aren't dishing out eight (8) bucks.
Lolita's is good. Once. in. awhile.
Some taco shops still have carne asada fries for 5.99 and it's just as good versus 7.50 at Lolita's.
I ain't hatin', I'm just broke.
I feel like I should be wearing a scarlet letter for saying this, but I can no longer deny my love affair with Lolita's.
There's an unspoken rule that one must stay faithful to their favorite Taco Shop, and for years that was certainly the case. In the recent months, however, I have been taking "business trips" to Lolita's for fourthmeal and have been harboring guilt. Their perfectly seasoned carne asada just can't be beat and their salsa bar is stocked to the brim with all the accoutrements you could ever need. And to top it all off they have self-serve fountain drinks, including Horchata!...All of which, sadly, I would never get at the other place.
Whether it's their California Burrito or their Deluxe Rolled Tacos, I always leave the restaurant with a mix of both shame and satisfaction (not to mention The Itis).
Lolita's in Bonita introduced me to my first ever California Burrito. I've tried Cali's at many other taco shops, but nowhere compares to LoLo's. Their red salsa makes the burrito what it is. For me, its just not the same without it. Back in the day you could occasionally see a fight between a couple of high school douche's outside of the shop. Which provided some good entertainment for the best after-party meal.
Other then the Cali and the carne asada fries, nothing else on the menu is really worth talking about. But that's ok because why would I order anything else?
Godlike Carne Asada Burritos/Fries.
Call in to order, its faster.
Salsa verde is probably one of the best in San Diego.
Onion leaf? Chile? What?! I usually (umm wait, I still do) take like a bag full of lime and chile, and a handful of onion leaf and just abuse it.
The only thing is missing, carrots/jalapenos. Shouldnt they be free these days? I mean, air/water at MOST gas stations are free! lol
Never seen this place dirty.
Its pricey during tough times! But worth it!
This place was a true mexxxican food epiphany for me. The carne asada burrito... great, the california burrito... the best ever, the rolled tacos with straight avocado guac speckled with tomatoes and covered in cotija... amazing. Nice looking place, in a decent area with a kind of bland atmosphere, but still amazing. I visit this place at least once every two weeks, sometimes much much more.
2 in 1 burrito baby!! Holler at cha boy... DAMN Im hungry!!! haha.... for all ya'll who don't know... its 2 rolled tacos inside the burrito..... you can even add fries to have a 2 in 1 cali burrito.... geees..... This burrito is so worth it... I forgot how much it cost, but at least it won't take a chunk out of your wallet.... The carne asada meat they use in their carne asada fries is soooooooooooo rich in flavor... I swear you can taste like every ingredient in that bitch.. I mean piece....
I am so very sad that I live in Texas, and one of the top three reasons is the lack of a Lolita's.
I just can't get down with the Tex-Mex business. Give me some good Cali Mex any day - yes there's a difference. I used to go to Lolita's at least 3 times a week, and EVERYTHING there is good. Even the damn salsa. I however am a simple girl and I personally just want bean and cheese. My mom has deep frozen them for me and put them in the mail, in addition to freezing them and carrying them back to Texas for me. It's that good. I went back there for my high school reunion, and yes this is the first place I went, off the plane. I actually never did hang out with any of the old friends (not that I really wanna) but I sure made it to the taco shop 4 times in 2.5 days.
I do not eat ANY other kind of mexican food, as I have a mortal fear of sour cream and guacamole. But I will always heart Lolita's. Foods good, you get a good bit of it, and its fast and convenient especially if you call in.
I'm seriously thinking of making a trip back to SD to go get my fix
So first review here. Five stars may seem high but it is all about perspective. Someone visiting San Diego is not going to choose between Lolitas and, say, Morton's downtown (I would likely give five stars in a future review) because themz is apples and oranges. As far as Mexican LBM, I can't think of a better one in all of San Diego County and I have been to many. (LBM = light board menu - your menu is up on the wall - a light board - that's right you don't have to pay a tip - well I guess if you count the jar by the register). In fact, I'll go one step further and say I would take Lolitas over many sit-down restaurants where you get the chips and salsa.
What makes it so great is its consistency and taste. No blandness and you know how it will taste everytime you eat there. Sucker for the Carne Asada Fries but the California Burrito is great and their combos are great to share (with my wife - if you are hungry chase the combo down with an order of 3 rolled tacos w/ guac). The hot sauce is hot and has a kick but not to the point where it is all heat and no taste.
The prices have been bumped up and may even be a tad higher than other Mexican LBMs but you get what you pay for (in this case anyway).
Be warned, arriving at 6-7 pm on any night without calling in your order in advance may result in a wait of 30 minutes or more. Yeah, I know it is supposed to be quick but people are willing to wait. There are three others I believe in the South Bay and I have been to them all but the Bonita location is hands down the best. (Not all locations are created equal as we yelpers know).
I am a Lolita's fan regardless what location it is, their Carna Asada Fries are sooooo good. I still do not understand why we can not have something so simple as Carna Asada Fries in LA (maybe there is a place, but I did not find it yet!).
I came to this location to check out, something 'nuevo'; my friends from SD were telling me about the "Tsunami" burrito. Unfortunately here they had no "Tsunami" on the menu. Later I found out it is available only at another location. You might think now, but what in the world is the "Tsunami" burrito? I will let you know as soon as I had one.
We decided to go for the Shrimp Burrito, Cheese Burrito and the famous Carna Asada Fries. Great choice, we left satisfied, but the "Tsunami" will be mine shortly.
HANDS DOWN - THEE BEST TACO SHOP IN SD!
I've been going here since highschool. they have the best carne asada fries that you can possibly get in San Diego. I love everything on their menu - from the rolled tacos to the pollo asada burrito. Their hot sauce is AMAZING (warning - i love spicy food, so if you can't handle the heat, stay out the kitchen) It takes a little while to get your food, but you cannot rush PERFECTION. They also have a motto posted on the walls of every restaurant which says "Patience is the essence of fine Mexican food" and they are so freakin right!
No better Mexican food in all of San Diego. Nothing compares to Lolitas BONITA! My favorites: bean cheese and sour cream burrito, carne asada fries (worth the 8 dollars and 16 cents!), carnitas tacos
Also, the best hot sauce ever. Everywhere else tastes like water compared to Lolitas.
CARNE ASADA ANYTHING ! The seasoning for their meat is perfect. I usually get the carne asada with rice, beans, & 2 gigantic four tortillas. These could swaddle a small baby they are so huge. The chips are hot and this meal will make you feel like you now need to do a lap around the golf course across the street.
I'm sorry to say but the last time I went to Lolita's both the food and service were soooooo off. It was like night and day from the last time I was there. This will be the first time I have taken off stars for a place.
When I go to Lolita's expecting the best and get Taco Bell style reheated
food thats bad.
There were six of us so we had a little bit of everything and all felt the food was not as fresh. Maybe it was the time of day like3:30 to 4:30 so
we may have gotten the fill in chef .
The service was also not as good . It's still worth checking out but go when it's busy and get the fresh carne asada.
There are not enough decent Mexican joints in the East lake area, which is why I started going to Lolita's. I wasn't a fan of Lolita's when I first tried it, five years ago but because my brother is such a huge fan of the place AND the Bonita store isn't as far as a drive compared to Super Sergio's. I figured I should give them another try, and I'm pretty happy with my decision.
I've been going to Super Sergio's for years, but lately their food hasn't been tasting as good as it used to. Lolita's on the other hand taste freaking great! Up until today I've always gotten their carne asada burrito, which taste way better than super Sergio's, it's the seasoning. Today I tried their California burrito, ooooh the cheesy goodness, a heart stopping goodness wrapped with a flour wrapper. The burrito was so big that half way through, I couldn't go on any longer. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is their horchata, it's not watered down like some other places.
Their only downside is that they close at midnight during the weekends.
I go here!
If someone were to ask me where to get good fast Mexican food, Lolita's would probably be the first place to spring to mind with Super Sergio's coming in a close second. Anything you order here is going to be good. But everyone knows why you come here. The carne asada fries are second to none of any I've tried since I've been on this earth. And rightfully so. They claim to have invented this dish in their commercial.
Their prices have been climbing steadily over the years, but so is every other taco shop so I don't mind as much. I've also never had to wait an unreasonable length of time for my food as so many other reviewers claim. Maybe I just have good timing. I don't know..
There are multiple San Diego locations to satisfy your Mexican craving, from Kearny Mesa in the north, to their three locations in the South Bay. And they just recently opened their newest location next to Petco Park in downtown so you can get your Cali B on when you go to the baseball game.
I went here on the advice from fellow yelpers. Parking wasnt that bad. The wait kinda sucked. It was a Wed night and I had to wait for around 15 minutes to get my burrito and my fries. Yes , you read correctly. I ate a 2n1 burrito AND carne asada fries. I am a "man of size" . That is the PC term. I must say the fries were exelent but not worth 7.50$. The 2n1 was good but not great. The meat had plenty of flavor and the burrito was good , just missing something. I cant put my finger on it. The hot sauce was pretty darn good . I really with I could give this a 3 1/2 star....But 17$ bucks later , I just dindt feel it was a 4-5 star place.
4.5 stars
FIrst time I ever tried Lolitas was back in 2001. My sister was going to school at Eastlake High and she told me I had to try this place that all the kids loved. Well I took my husband there, he was my boyfriend at the time and we've been hooked ever since then. Our 6 year old daughter even loves the carne asada fries and she's a picky eater! We even have relatives from out of town who come to visit SD at times and ask if we can have Lolitas.
I went here on Tuesday around 645p. I have been going here for over 8 years like I said and I have never, ever seen it so crowded! It was beyond packed with people. A lot of high school kids. I called in my order, but it still took over 15 minutes. Like their motto states, "patience is the essence of fine mexican food". What everyone I've asked who likes this place likes is the carne asada meat itself. Anything with carne asada is good!
I ordered my familys usual....Carne asada fries, 2 beef taco combo and a california burrito. My husbands fav is the burrito. Prices definitely have gone up, but thats everywhere. I mean we've gone to casual restaurants to eat mexican food and paid a lot more and we still end up liking Lolitas the best.
The one thing that bothers me is that their place is so small. I remember when they had it in the next building over and it was even smaller and not as nice, but this place is still small!
Lolitas has the best carne asada fries we've tasted so far!
Call your order in.
"Patience is the essence of fine Mexican Food".
That's what's plastered on their wall and they mean it.
It really isn't fast food, especially if there are 2434234 people in line before you.
After living in San Diego for more than 10 years, I think I can say that I know good taco shop fare. Of course, over those years I've realized that certain shops do certain things better than others. Lolita's, all the way around, is one of the best, but it is their carne asada that completely blows the competition away.
On fries, on chips, or wrapped in a warm tortilla, this carne asada is tough to beat. So much so that I routinely drive by several other taco shops to get that perfectly seasoned meaty goodness. Mmmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
Oh yeah, their slogan is "Patience is the essence of fine Mexican food." or in other words "be prepared to wait 20 minutes for what might take 5 at another taco shop." If you're in a hurry, not the place to go, if you don't mind a little wait, you won't be disappointed.
One Word: Savor
Growing up in SD, I've been exposed to a myriad of taco shops. Some shops better than others, but Lolita's has the best flavor & quality. Lolita's prepares all the taco shop staples w/out disappointment, but it is the carne asada fries that I always SAVOR.
When I was living in the OC the Mexican Food was always good, but carne asada fries could not be found b/c I believe they are an SD specialty. Later, I lived in Chicago and even asked a taco shop cook to try to duplicate my piece of home. The cook prepared fat fries, topped it w/carne asada, guac, sour cream, cheese & handed it to me. I was excited....big mistake! Never, never, never try to make Lolita's carne asada fries b/c you'll just be ruining your last memory of the meat and carb concoction. Lolita's crispy skinny fries topped w/the perfect portion of carne asada & toppings, paired w/horchata always reminds me of why I love SD.
Whenever my friends visit from out of town, Lolita's is always on my list of places they need to experience. Each and every person has never been disappointed.
Fattest California Burrito I've come across yet! Guacamole was excellent and the meat was juicy. Would have liked to have enjoyed more meat and less fries. Hubby thought the burrito was excellent and loved the fries! I think they could work on perfecting their hot sauce. Almost has a store bought taste to their hot sauce.
I absolutely love this place! Great food and a clean store. I don't mind having to wait a long time for the food, it's all worthwhile.
It's pretty small though. I honestly think this place should be bigger than the Lolita's on Polamar St. That lolita's sucks and is overpriced.
Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe this place is always just darn good! Every so often I just crave Lolita's machaca plate. It's generous, filling, and just the right amount of meat vs. egg. The tortillas are always fresh, and man, I just reminded myself that it's been a while since I've visited this Lolita's. The service is brusque, but it doesn't matter. Their food speaks for itself! For good "forget about the diet til Monday" fare, try their carne asada chips! Viva Lolita's! So excited that they've now got a downtown location, but I think the Bonita one is still my favorite.
I ate at this location for the first time since it was one of the closest taco shops near my man friend's house. When we drove by, we thought it was closed. It's sorta tucked away in the corner of this office strip mall where it's the only shop open at night. We did a double take and saw the huge red "OPEN" light sign on. You cannot miss this flashing(?) open sign even if you had Coke bottle glasses...I don't think I've ever seen an open sign that super sized before in my life!
The first thing I noticed on their menu was that ALL the prices were covered in masking tape. They were obviously in the process of probably upping their prices, but I had no idea how much anything was until we looked at the receipt. Not that I felt like I was going to be ripped off, but it would have been nice to know how much everything was!
I had the three rolled tacos with guacamole. We wanted to eat our grub there, but it was getting crowded...everyone else in Bonita had the same idea to go there right after the Chargers kicked some Patriots booty, so we changed our order to go.
It was good stuff, hit the spot and it was light, just what I wanted. I didn't know you had to pack your own salsa, so we had none tonight. Oh well, at least I know for next time. =)
I'd definitely go back here. The tacos didn't ooze out oil, the guacamole was tasty and the place was clean. This was one taco shop where they only wrap the tacos in paper, they didn't pack it in styrofoam containers or plates like a majority of the other taco shops I frequent, so I thought it was cool that they were doing their part in being green.
I'd only recommend they update their menu with their new prices. Another customer made a comment about the missing prices while we were sitting nearby waiting for our order to come out.
I've lived in Bonita the majority of my life and going to Lolitas was a weekly thing in high school, especially after x-country or track meets.
I think the food is ok! I would love the carne asada fries even more if they were not shoe string fries but those sweet crinkle fries everyone loves.
Throughout the years Lolitas transitioned from a small shop located on the left of what use to be Boll Weevils to an expansion and rebuild on the right of the burger joint (which is now closed). When the change took place so did the prices. They sky rocketed which now makes Lolitas keep to their average food with expensive pricing.
I think if I was ever in Bonita now, I would prefer to go to Colimas down the street.
But I do believe i find myself after the bar on occasion eating cali burritos from Lolitas still.
I like this location because my husband's office is 1/2 block away so I can pick up the phone and order my carne asada fries fix by dialing him up. It's great because they have the open salsa bar and drinks. I grew up eating at the ghetto-fabulous location on 'L' street back in the day, Wing Wah's next door...The only thing better about the L street place, the red salsa hands down, is better than the open bar stuff, and that's for the Bonita and Kearny Mesa locations. Sorry! That being said, the food is awesome whichever location you decide to visit.
Our standard is either the california burrito or carne asada fries to share and a quesadilla. Lolita's, thank you for crisping up that tortilla just so! The carne asada is never tough or salty, which can't be said of many places. Pass me the lipitor....
The food is fresh, place is busy, and ball weevil is closed.
OKay. . .one late night. . . I saw a commercial for Lolita's opening up in Downtown. . .Oh it's SOOO over now!
edit. . over in a bad way. . . . .I'll still like to food. . .but when it get gets commercial, thas when i draw the line. . more crowds and the value goes down. . . .Their carne asada is still the bomb anywhere. . . .but damn. . .
All I have to say is if you are going there on a weekend make sure you call your order 30 minutes prior to picking it up, they are horrible with time!Overall the food is good.Sometimes the employees can get rude, they need to better organize themselves when its busy.
I've only been here once with my boyfriend and our first time was surely a "memorable day."
We've been to the Lolita's on Telegraph Canyon Rd. a number of times (and love it), so we decided to check this one out during one of our breaks from SWC.
The lady that took our order was polite, so she set us up with a good mood. However, once my boyfriend and I sat down, there were a couple of things that began to kill it:
1) Our table smelled like wet mop
2) The table we had to sit at had a broken seat
When we finally got our carne asada fries, I couldn't focus on the taste, really; Every forkful was accompanied with the taste of wet mop.
Although there were times when the "wet mop" sensation went away for a bit, I noticed that the meat tasted "weird".
I can't fully explain it..but it had this nasty old pepper after taste that I didn't find pleasant at all.
Other than that, I liked how their fries tasted (alone) and how they had a self-serve salsa bar. :3
I'm giving the Lolita's in Bonita a 3 for now because even though my first and only experience was pretty unpleasant, I'm still willing to give it another chance because of the good reputation Lolita's has.
Yeaaaaaah.
Carne Asada Fries, YUM! :) Plus, I love that the fries are skinny instead of fat, lol.
My siblings and I had this twice when we were in San Diego for the weekend to watch our beloved Giants play the Padres. One of the best places to get carne asada fries! Our brother took us to a previous place in San Diego and we absolutely hated it.
I recommend this place. But you should also go when it isn't too busy.
