I am a fan. The service is really hit or miss in speed but the food and friendliness truly makes up for it.
If you come at night get the steak special. It is grilled perfectly.
If you come in the morning....
They do poached eggs just right. The sausage is to die for. I love love love the ham and cheese quiche. I also recommend the tea sandwiches, corn pie, and the churros with dulche de leche... yum! -

The worst bakery in the area!!!!!!!
The food is horrible, frozen, and rotten. I have seen mold on danishes and the salad was wilted. I've asked if the food was fresh and it's not it's frozen.....also, the food had a bad smell to it. Just not good at all i don't recommend this place to my worst enemy. If you want a good Argentina restaurant & bakery go to El Patio on Randolph Rd, their great!!!!!!!!
Now flag and delete that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The truth hurts. -

This is only a review of the desserts I sampled, and they were excellent! The is an Argentinian bakery and cafe. It is small, but cozy. I was in need of some desserts for a dinner party, and I wasn't sure about this place, but I decided to give it a shot and wow it was a success! Thanks Lola for making look good ;-) I chose the following 3 options:
1. Alfajores - two round biscuits joined with a smear of dulce of leche. One word to describe these: heavenly! They were fresh, light, and just right!
2. Alfajores de maizena - two round biscuits made of corn flour with a smear of dulce de leche with coconut flakes covering the outside. This was also light, sweet and delicious!
3. Brazo gitano - literally it means "gypsy arm," and it is a spong layered cake filled with dulce de leche. I was a bit worried about this dessert but it was very fresh, moist, and a crowd pleaser (lol, it wasonly a party of 3.5 people. Does a 20 month old count as a whole person?)
OK, granted all my desserts had dulce de leche in it, but seriously, how can you have dessert any other way? Dulce de leche is the nectar for the gods. And I lived like a goddess for a night thanks to Lola! -

Saturday was my second stop at Cafe Lola, the first time I tried the tortilla Española. It was so close to what I enjoy in Madrid that I insisted my wife, a Madrileña, pay a visit. How was it? I can't tell you because the service was beyond dismal, it was downright rude. No wonder Argentina's banks, telephone company and airline are now owned by Spain. No wonder Messi is incapable of greatness without Xavi and Iniesta feeding him brillant passes. ¡Argentina un pais quiero no puedo! Que lastima que vagos son.

After reading the previous reviews, I was looking forward to dining here after stopping for breakfast at Woodside Deli on Feb. 5. But aside from the empanadas, the fare in the glass cases looked surprisingly American. There were some quiches, a cake, and a baked pastry with caramel filling that looked eerily like an eclair. Don't get me wrong; the food was good, but I was hoping for something very Argentinian, something that I wouldn't be able to find at an American establishment. So I was quite disappointed with what I saw. I might return again, but I won't go out of my way.

Adorable. I stopped by for a beverage but wish I could have stayed in the sun drenched cafe for their $4.95 breakfast specials. The interior is small, but very cozy w/ leather place mats and sturdy wood tables. And the 5 star expresso drinks! The crema on top of my americano was impressively thick and it was not at all bitter.
This could possibly be a great study/reading location. Given the pace of Rockville most people will drop in and leave quickly, leaving you alone w/ the slow service at a back table. Another plus: Open till 11pm on Friday and Saturday- and they serve a very small selection of beer! -

Decent gelato, ok prices, slow service. $10 minimum for table service on Fridays and Saturdays. Alas, we did not find this out until we asked for the check. Would have been appreciated if the waiter had told us this BEFORE we ordered instead of telling us at the end of our visit. Thanks dude, we might have gone another route had you told us that to begin with. Friendly staff and live music when I was there (a Saturday evening). The music is pretty loud though, so not exactly an ideal place to hold a conversation. If you're in the area, decent place to get dessert, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Really great food all prepared in house homemade. Argentine food with an Italian influence. Must try this cafe if you are in Rockville. Great location with parking. Empanadas are wonderful, french fries are made with real potatoes and fried fresh, soups are awesome, bread is fresh and the Hot Chocolate is made using real chocolate.
You may have to wait a bit on the service, but you won't be disappointed.

Stumbled upon this place while on a pit stop and was pleasantly surprised to find a mom-and-pop Argentinean cafe in Rockville of all places. I moved from LA and so miss Grand Casino, an absolutely fabulous Argentinean cafe/bakery similar to Lola's. At Lola's, had a beef empanada, and some of the traditional pastries along with a cafe con leche. They were all excellent. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in Rockville again.

Just to be clear, this is an Argentine Cafe, not an American one. You'll see some familiar pastries; danishes, turnovers, but a lot of the things here, and the things that you should get, are Argentinian.
Get the amazing coffee, and anything with Dulce de Leche. Especially the Churros, covered in sugar and served in.. of all things.. a flower pot.
Service is not quick, it's South American speed. Come here for a relaxing cup of coffee in the afternoon, not your morning joe on the way to work. -

I really really want to love you Lola's. As a fan of the underdog, mom'n'pop coffeeshops, I would be thrilled to have another "neighborhood gem".
Alas... while your caramel iced lattes are out of this world, your service is beyond slow (not at all what I want on the way to work). Even when I am the only customer in the store, the pace at which you move is painstaking.
Also, you have the occasional gnat in the pastry case. Even then, I was so hypnotized by your pineapple upside down cake that I had to get a slice. Yuck. It was dry and hard, I had paid full price, and on top of that, it probably had gnat eggs in it. What a slap in the face.
If I were you Lola, I'd mark those suckers down near the end of the day if you want to stand a chance at making it in Rockville. Better yet, don't sell them at all. That damn cake traumatized me so much, that I'm scared to try any of your other dishes.
Five-star coffee. Minus one for service. Minus one for pastries. -

I got a french bread sandwich, which was very good but literally was just a sandwich (no side). The price was reasonable, the food was fresh, and the sandwich was filling, so I didn't mind but don't think that you're getting anything else on the plate when you order. The service is at the pace you get when you travel outside the U.S., which is slow by American standards and normal for everyone else.
I want to return for breakfast. The three-egg omelets are just over $5! -

I went to Lola's cafe this morning for the first time and ordered a hot chocolate and a crossiant and paid $4.98. Pretty expensive for just a hot drink and a pastry but to their credit the hot chocolate was just the right temperature and the crossiant was enormous, soft and flaky.
I have seen this location be very many things, from a pizza place to two different types of Mexican restaurants and now a bakery. I'm not sure why these stores never last at this location, it may have something to do with the awkward parking. Yet, I have to say that this morning was the most packed I have ever seen this location be and there were only about 6 people in the place. So I hope that means good things for Lola Cafe.
It is an Argentine Cafe which I thought was refreshing. Their menu has a variety of foods to choose from which range from bagels and crossiants to Argentine pizza, to salads, steaks and chicken dishes.
There was only one guy at the register, who also acted as the server which made service a little slow but I wasn't in a rush. It seems like a nice place to come and enjoy when you have time to relax. I will be back to try more things on the menu and to also try the espresso since I see it has recieved rave reviews.
Good luck to the owners of Lola Cafe! -

I am Argentinean and know empanadas and meats . . . Lola's has the best empanadas around (Buenos Aires quality), and a very good "asado" (short ribs, blood sausage, chorizo, sweet bread), cooked right.
In addition, they carry the absolute best coffee in the area (much better than all the coffee places, such as, Starbucks, Caribou, Quartermain, etc.). I've gotten some coffee-lover friends and their friends hooked on it.
The Argentinean-style pastries ("facturas") are very good. What I've been disappointed with are desserts. For example, the ricotta cake is dry and hard as stone; other cakes are not very good; the drunken (they are supposed to have some alcohol) fine pastries are somewhat tasteless and without any liquor. Lastly, the "alfajores de maicena" (corn starch cookie sandwiches with "dulce de leche") are just OK--I've been told mine are better.
The waiters/waitresses are nice, but I can see why people would complain in other reviews. -

The service is abysmal and frankly, the unkempt older men who sit around out front making rude comments aren't pleasant either. I wish i could say the food made up for it, but the pastry i bought had a musty, almost mildewed, taste.

I came by this cozy place after lunch for an espresso. The owner is a nice Argentine with whom I spoke with and had a nice chat. The cappachino was amazing! I need to come back to try the food as it looks fresh, home made, and tasty. The only downside is the cafe is small but other than that quite excellent.

The best coffee in Rockville! The pastries are great. The breakfasts are wonderful and inexpensive. The service is surly at times. Haven't tried other meals.

It's so nice to see a non-chain coffee shop that serves great pastries and good solid espresso! I haven't tried the gelato yet, but am looking forward to a mid-summer's affogoto. The staff was great, and the place is uber cute. The casual Spanish flair is a nice break from the usual hippie or trendy vibe that plagues too many good shops.

Definitely a place that makes great espresso drinks. Still not exactly sure how I feel about their pastries and other treats but I will definitely be visiting again soon!

Okay...my wife was correct about the coffee. It is 5 star, but we went for dinner with friends just to try it out, and the dinner would have been 1-2 star at best. It was quite some time ago, so I don't remember what everyone had, but I had steak (I know that seems ridiculous to order steak at this type of place, so you get what you ask for). It was flavorless and well done. Pastries were decent that evening and the reason for the 3 stars is the coffee...It is tremendous.

This place is a bakery and bistro so along with pastries, bagels and cakes, you can also order steaks and sandwiches. The pastries and empanadas are good. I thought the coffee was pretty good. Service is kind of slow as other people have said but I would say come here and try the pastries to go.

If I could give these guys a 0 star I would. We had gone to pita hut and then walked over to Lola's to get some dessert. We got a slice of cheesecake. After taking a bite, we realized that the bottom of the cheesecake had lots of MOLD on it!!! I would never eat here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone if they don't want to get sick.
