Great spot. Family stays here all the time. Breakfast is my favorite in SD. Only a couple miles from the downtown SD or DelMar's horse racetrack. Perfection

This really is another amazing hotel. Do you know what I remember the most? The applewood bacon I was served for breakfast. It was truly delicious and mouth pleasing.
So the grounds are gorgeous, are we surprised, no, this is a top notch golf course. The inside is just as wonderful. You melt into the beds and the rooms are decent sized.
What I really enjoyed about the hotel was the proximity to the reserve. We took a nice stroll through the reserve and onto the beach.
The hotel also had car service which took us to downtown La Jolla. Really great amenity if you want to have a nice dinner and not worry about driving home after a few drinks.Listed in: Coast to Coast

This is an extremely beautiful hotel. My family and I stayed here for a week and it was wonderful. Our room was clean, and we had everything in the room we would need. The balcony was nice, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and nice. The staff is so helpful. If you valet park, the will immediatley bring your car around when you ask, and give you directions. The hotel's resteraunt, the Grill, has a great breakfast. Their dinner and lunch is fabulous as well. The only minor detail would be: Military jets fly over every morning. But everything is amazing.

My review is strictly regarding the spa at Torrey Pines. While my boyfriend was golfing the North course, I found myself enjoying a blissful afternoon at the Torrey Pines Spa. I enjoyed a manicure ($45) and a 60 minute facial ($160) while visiting. The spa is extremely well maintained, luxurious robes, products and an amazing Spa relaxation room.
The women's dressing area, offers full services from showers, sauna, steam room, hair products and dressing areas for after your visit. I think the dressing room was my favorite part of the spa-I'd give it 5 stars. It was extremely clean and serene.
I feel as though the spa services are overpriced and that you're mainly paying for 'Torrey Pines' experience at this point. The manicure was okay, (if you've read any of my other reviews re: Leon Nails) I am a mani fanatic. They did not offer high end polishes (No Essie or OPI) and for the price...I just expected a little more bang for my buck. Maybe a paraffin treatment, longer massage or something.
On to my facial (also a big fan of facials), this might have been the worst facial I've ever had. I felt like for an entire hour the aesthetician massaged my face, there was an extraction phase to the facial, but I feel as though she did not do a thorough job because my face broke out following the service.
Overall, Torrey Pines is beautiful. If you're significant other is golfing I'd recommend traveling in to the Gaslamp District or another neighboring city-as the spa services are a little lackluster. -

Was Scott Peterson on his way to play a round of golf at Torrey Pines or was he planning on grabbing a bite to eat at the Lodge? If you don't recall, Peterson was arrested on the road that leads directly into the Torrey Pines Lodge and golf course parking lot.
It was 10AM and we were hungry. It was a 30 minute wait at our hotel, but someone recommended that we check out the Lodge next door. One of the guys at the front offered to drop us off on a golf cart. Never underestimate the power of 6 women against 1 man... =P
We had a nice view of the golf course on the way there. The restaurant at the Lodge, the Grill Restaurant, sits right in front of the putting green and starters club at the Torrey Pines Golf Course.
Highlight of my visit was being able to take the mini d'arbo black cherry and strawberry preserves. Still sealed, straight from Austria! Sourdough bread anyone?
My omelette was standard--mushrooms, spinach, onions, and cheese. It also came with a side of country potatoes. Considering the area (affluent golfers abound everywhere), $15 for breakfast was reasonable. -

Staff and rooms are great. The lunch is over priced. Great place to stay just eat somewhere else.

Review from Carol K.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines was recommended to me by a friend and while it has alot going for it- I am not sure that it would go on my list of recommendations as it just didn't stand out from other resorts I've been to.
The pros:
-The large, mission inspired rooms. Frank Lloyd Wright would be in heaven as the mission styled furniture/theme is present everywhere. Seriously- my room was huge and the private balcony could hold 15 people easily.
-The common areas of the hotel are lovely, hardwood floors, mission styled rugs, heavy oak furniture
-The Lodge is situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific with spectacular views
-The Golf course is absolutely beautiful
-I also liked that they have a signature scent throughout the hotel. You smell lemongrass and sage everywhere.
-Room service always comes within the prescribed time.
The cons:
-The bed linens were just okay- nothing sumptuous except for the duvet cover.
-The bathroom did not have a separate shower- something I've come to expect from high end resorts
-The bathroom towels while adequate were not big and fluffy
-The pool did not have waiter service so you needed to use the "help" phone to get food or drink
-The restaurant (grill) was an odd experience. While the food was good- the hostess asked for your name every day when you went in. What for? She never used it.
-The spa offers no classes except Yoga on the weekends
-Room service automatically adds 20% tip to each order
I think if I were asked if I would recommend this place- I would say sure- if you were a golfer for golf is what rules this place. Every thing else is secondary and it shows.
The nightly rate is expensive as even if you negotiate the room rate below $300, there is a daily valet service of $27 ($22 if you park it yourself), a series of daily taxes over $35 and in my opinion, it's just not worth it for the money. I expect to be wowed for that kind of cash and I guess that's what my problem overall was. I wasn't wowed.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines is a-ok as my rating indicates. It has all the basics and a couple of specialties that I liked. It's just not up there with the other hotels that I frequent on this coast as a place I'd recommend to friends. -

San Francisco, CA
Lovely lovely place inside out. From when you bring your car up the driveway to where the valet in the kilted skirt opens your door to you and puts your car away to when you walk into the lobby, everything is perfect : classic American lodge styled hotel.
We had a wedding dinner here for a friend's wedding and the food and service were impeccable. The crab cakes were made with real fresh bits of crab and accompanied by a delicious corn salad, and our mesclun salad with a large garlic crouton and olive oil and vinegar was wonderful with the flavors of the greens (and this coming from a girl that normally skips anything green). The roasted halibut was soft and perfect as was the sauce that accompanied it, and the pancetta on top was the perfect contrast! The filet mignon was cooked perfect, and the potatoes were so creamy, I couldn't stop eating mine and those of the person next to me (yes, I knew him- it wasn't like I just ate off a stranger's plate). For dessert we had a almond tulip shell crust shaped like a bowl, with three little scoops of sorbet- I think it was blackberry, mango and orange, with a rasberry sauce. DIVINE!!!
I tend to not expect much from wedding food, after all it must be pretty hard to mass produce food like that and do it well, but the Lodge perfected the process and did it really well.
The room had a dance floor set up in the middle, and though I know it was partially planned by the bride, the hotel still provided the background, and it was perfect. Lovely views of the Torrey Pines Golf Course, a beautiful lawn, trees everywhere. I've been to many weddings, and by far this location was perfect and surreal. It was truly perfect for the wedding and the guests. -

Temecula, CA
This hotel manages to provide a totally luxurious experience while maintaining character and charm. The style is lodge/Craftsman and it's hard to believe the place hasn't really been around for years and years. Every room is calm and restful, with thoughtfully-placed antiques, rugs, soothing light fixtures, down to the signature fragrance that is sold in candle form in the gift shop.
The valets wear kilts, so as soon as you drive up, you know you're in for something special.
The grounds are beautiful. We don't golf so can't comment on the course (other than the fact that it's pretty to look at.)
The spa is lovely -- restful, soothing, calm. There are sauna and steam areas and a generous common area with fireplace and comfy chairs. Nice, clean showers and restrooms. Full menu of spa treatments with prices on par with similar nice hotels.
We ate in the casual restaurant (near the golf course) as well as at A.R. Valentien, their fine dining restaurant. The casual restaurant has good food at high prices - nothing remarkable about the food, but it is good. But A.R. Valentien is really terrific. They use local seasonal produce and serve as many California wines as possible. We had a wine & cheese pairing that was really delicious.
There are several good hikes of various levels of difficulty nearby. Grab a map and hit the trail. We did a cliffside walk that was spectacular.
We spent our 10th anniversary here and it was a great choice for a special weekend. -

Pretty, pretty. Kilted valets (I couldn't avoid mentioning this, but I still felt bad for them because it was freezing out- Let's hope they don't wear them with the traditional nothing underneath.) The door was opened for us, and we were immediately greeted and directed to our party. Something to note: the lobby had 4 Christmas carolers dressed up in old-timey garb, with beautiful voices, in front of a lavishly decorated tree.
And now... our office Holiday Party... I remember most of it. The cocktail area was full of my co-workers, their dates, and people from another company we merged parties with (the owners of each business are married to each other.) They were handing out h'ors d'oevres all aorund, and there were two open bars. Mingle, mingle... and in through double-doors to the main dining room.
Dinner was wonderful, some of the best sirloin I have ever had. There was a seafood table set up, but I didn't really venture over there. I was happy with my sirloin and croissant, with super creamy horseradish sauce. And lots of wine on the side.
About dancing time, I wasn't snockered, but getting tipsy. Good times. Eventually, there was a throng of people I work with convulsing all over the dance floor (by the way, the room was classy and elegant looking and the dance floor was smack dab in the center to distract from the tastefulness.) Crazy Interior Designers.
And then... I fell. This was toward the end of the night, and it wasn't from being drunk, but it happened, and I remain unashamed. Why not hang my head, one might ask? Because I injured myself. My knee is F*ed. Sadly, the employees of The Lodge had the "you need to sign a release" reaction, instead of the "oh my god, are you okay?" reaction.
THEN, I got hammered. A chug, chug here, and a chug, chug there of free champagne and the rest of the night was a blur. I did find out which co-workers of mine are smokers, though... and I've always been curious. My knee is still pretty bad, a week later, but I won the bets on who would get smashed from our company- it's always the unassuming ones, doesn't it seem? -

This aint no Motel 6!
Exquisite West Coast Greene and Greene building with foxy-fine collection of Arts and Crafts style originals and nice new Stickley furniture. (my parents were antique dealers, I cant help but case every joint I enter). The hotel is not close to the beach, but the walk to the beach and in surrounding coast line were rugged and beautiful. Attentive staff was lovely doling out yummy food stuffs and spa services. -

We stayed at this very lovely hotel last summer for the first time, and at first, I wasn't too sure about how it would sit with our kids, it is a little more chichi than the beachier resorts we usually stay at. But let me just say, we all loved it! It's stunning in more ways than one. Big rooms! Wow! Immaculate, and ours had a gorgeous balcony you could actually fit our whole family on at the same time (there are (4) of us total). There were robes for everyone, including a pint sized one for our 5 year old, and as you can probably imagine, our 5 year old was rather impressed by this. LOL
Pool area was beautiful, spa area even more beautiful as it overlooks the golf course and ocean below. The bar was warm and so cozy; big fireplace, comfy sofa and chairs to relax by the fire in, rustic seating at the bar, you can't help but feel relaxed. And the restaurant just inside the bar, incredible, and ever so elegant! I mean to say, not at all your average hotel style restaurant in the least. Talk about paying attention to detail, and you couldn't ask for a more professional staff to care for you. But again, the food! I crave the chef's frittata now! Dang it! LOL... And our kids went ape over the french toast. We sat outside one morning for breakfast, sooo nice, and inside the following day for breakfast, just as nice.
There is a driver who will take you to the gorgeous beach just down the hill from the hotel and will also pick you up when you're ready to come back. It's really nice, as they have everything you could possibly need set up at the beach; chairs, umbrella's, towels, boogie boards, and even room service! We ate salads and enjoyed drinks while sun-bathing on the beach!
If you're ever in La Jolla and you want to stay somewhere special, this will suit your needs, and then some. -

We did not stay here and this is solely about the famed "Drugstore Burger."
Went to take a look around. Fantastic feel, and the smell of the fireplace was heavenly. Sat in the lobby and ordered the burgers from the bar. This is the way to go. Found a little nook in front of the smaller fireplace. Romantic and quiet.
The burgers were outstanding and cooked to perfection. After a while, the bun does get a bit soggy, but I love the way it absorbs the juices. Absolutely delicious. The only downside is the price tag... $50 for 2 burgers, one beer and a nice tip... but it is worth it every once in a while. You are paying for quality and ambiance and a fantastic and friendly staff. -

Wow...for $150 I could have had a helluva good meal at Ruth's Chris. There i go again straying from the beaten path, the tried and true if you will...and end up at The Lodge. Of course we were here on a holiday so i'll cut them some slack.
The menu was limited but i did find a dish that sounded good. Chicken, how can you go wrong?? Apparently it's pretty easy. The food was mediocre at best - perhaps they bland it down to make it more palatable for everyone.
The wine was great, the ambiance upscale and romantic, the view was beautiful.
If I ever end up here again I believe i'll take a seat at the bar, enjoy some wine or other libation and take in the scenery. When the hunger pangs strike i'll hop in the car and head to a restaurant that consistently delivers! -

Stayed here last night - flew in for a wedding. Pretty venue (beautiful grounds with natural landscape and pines) - nice wedding dinner food (polenta with wild mushrooms and beurre blanc rocked!), lovely spa with steam room and sauna (best part) and nice Mission-inspired rooms with big bathrooms and comfortable beds. Not sure it's worth $300-$400/night - nice breakfasts in the restaurant, but a $30 room service charge for coffee and oatmeal? Seriously???
Doubt if I would return unless I morph into a serious golfer in my next life. -

WOW. I think I'll quote my fellow yelper and friend David C. when he says that places like the Lodge at Torrey Pines proves that "life outside the ghetto is MUCH better than life inside the ghetto." I'd have to agree.
As I left the mean streets of the LBC, I finally felt that I could relax, take off my flak jacket, and spend a little time away from the land of Tahoes, 22" dubs, and houses with bars on the windows. And then, alas, I landed at the Lodge at Torrey Pines.
Wow, this hotel is IMMACULATE. Everything here, quite truly, is first class. Open your ears, and you'll hear fellow hotel patrons using terms like "cash flow" and "cash neutral" or "futures." Like I said, life is good here.
Believe me when I say this place is beautiful. There is so much attention to detail here, from the slippers and robes, to the "turndown service" with little mints left on the pillows, to the french milled soaps and high end shampoos (now I really sound like a chick), to the plush towels lined up outside the little cabanas at the pool that have "The Lodge" embroidery.
The view from the back side of the hotel is incredible. It lines right up against Torrey Pines Golf Course. The spa, the pool all have views of the course. Insane.
The style of architecture here is amazing and really stunning. The different types of woods (it's a Craftsman style, I believe)....the stained glass/Tiffany style, the brick.......beautiful. Truly a treat to come here.
This place is truly beautiful and enjoyed every second. -

Just spent a VERY relaxing weekend at the Lodge at Torrey Pines with my boyfriend.
Absolutely lovely property with incredible attention to detail in terms of the Lodge, furnishings, and California Impressionist art featured in the rooms and the public areas.
Perhaps the nicest surprise was the quality of the restaurants - outstanding for a hotel. Unpretentious food with great service and a great table for us as guests of the Lodge.
We loved the proximity to the Torrey Pines Reserve where we hiked the many trails.
Did not play golf on this trip, but enjoyed the huge heated pool and the grounds. We will go back many times, I am sure--it was 45 min.
door to door for us. Excellent staff, all clearly love working there.
The Lodge is atrue tribute to the Early Califronia Craftsman movement. As an architecture buff, I truly enjoyed finding a resort that understood what the Arts and Crafts movementwas all about; There are no plastic moldings, no industrila carpets, just exquisite woodwork, and true craftsmanship. You are greeted by a magnificent set of stained glass doors that open to a loby, rich in woodwork and custom furnishings.
The fireplace glows and the aroma of the wood burning fireplace fills the air. The Bar off the hotel lobby is cozy with it's own fireplace as well. The entire hotel is rich in dark woods; hand cut glass windows and what looks to be original artwork from the early 1900s. If you are a hipster kid, looking for a loud trendy resort, this place is not for you. Take advantage of a short hike in the Torrey Pines Reserve.
Bring your camera because the views are some of the best of the Pacific Ocean. Our bedroom was one I would like to have of my own. (We called the hotel and for a small amount were able to upgrade to the golf / ocean view - Spectaculare!) The bed was incredibly comfortbale and the rich sheets a true treat. -

I have had many terrific experiences here and I absolutely love this hotel. I have gotten massages at the spa for myself and a birthday gifts for friends and they have always been wonderful. You can really pamper yourself here and feel like a queen. The pool has music on underneath the water (true!) and the food I've ordered from the Cabana guys/gals is always tasty. If you come here - try the adjacent restaurant. I went there for a birthday celebration and had a lovely pear spinich salad that was so yummy. The fact that you've got the ocean and the gorgeous green golf course as a backdrop makes you feel like you're in another world. A lovely treat!

Hospitality and service is top-notch - they are there to please YOU! Courteous and utterly helpful.
Rooms: Well appointed. Motif is a spohitcated Craftsmen Lodge.
Products: They're own line but its very high quality.
Don't ask me why the valet wear kilts cuz I dont see the connection, but I love it anyhow.
Spa: open to all guests for general use like gym, showers, sauna, steam room etc. They offer exclusive products like Phytomer and True and Vie for OPEN USE (hollah!) in the spa. They will provide you with lockers, robes, slippers. You can literally get ready there with vanity stations complete with hair dryers, hair products, clean brushes, lotion, and face products. Spa treatments are a tad pricey about 140 for 50 min. sessions of facials or wraps or massages, but if you're staying here fughettabowtit and spend the money - u deserve it. Again the spa staff, attentive, courteous, goes above and beyond to please you and help you. Recommend Tricia for facials.
Golf: Torrey Pines Golf Course, nuff said. Excellent.
Self park: Free!
Brunch at the Grill facing the putting green highly recommended. Great selection and quality.
Vibe: DEFINITELY conservative, "mature" (ahem) and yes conservative. No suite parties here! WASPs welcome. LOL Hotel bar closes at 12:00AM. Hmmph. But that's okay cuz tee time is at 8:00AM.
Perk: adjacent to the Torrey Pines Nature Reserve, you need to get your lazy or drunk or hung over butt up and go for a jog or hike in a variety of trails (beach trail that leads to Black's beach is nice) and get some fresh air in your Los Angeleno lungs and see some fantastic ocean and cliff vistas. -

This place left me speechless. We randomly stayed here through Hotwire. This place is very pricey, but worth every penny. The ambience is over the top amazing. I will have to go into more detail later, but this place is truly extraordinary.

i haven't stayed at the lodge, i''ve only been to the spa, and it is a beautiful, beautiful spa on beautiful grounds.
the spa is soothing, relaxing, clean and upscale. and it's nice to walk through the cozy logdey feeling hallways to get there. and it's also nice to sit on the patio at the restaurant and eat a sweet meal after getting a treatment.
because it's expensive, this is a special occasion kind of spa. but it is definitely worth the money when you really want to treat yourself.Listed in: healing in san diego

My boyfriend took me here on Labor Day weekend, I like it. I gave 4 stars because the beach was not couple steps from our room. (we thought it would be) The golf course was beautiful, and there's couple hiking trail for people that don't golf. The staff was very nice & helpful, I would gave a A++ for all their services. Room service was on time & the food was really good & hot.... I would go back for the hike!

This place is pretty, and is a nice place to stay in La Jolla, but I don't understand why this place gets luxury-hotel hype and press. The rooms and the pool are both kind of whack, and the service was nothing to write home about. The price versus what you're actually getting are really not commensurate. We got a crappy, dark room, and our meals were just ok. Definitely NOT worth the price. You're not missing anything by skipping this place, unless you're a golfer. Head to L'Auberge instead.

This is a really wonderful hotel resort. Service was top notch and the rooms were very comfortable and clean. Definitely lives up to the luxury standard and price. We had a beautiful view of the 18th hole on the course. The casual restaurant we went to had a nice breakfast, and their pro-shop is a lot of fun for the golfers visiting.

***A.R. Valentien Restaurant.
This is hands down the best restaurant in San Diego. They have a new Chef de Cuisine Tim who rocks, with exceptionally fresh ingredients prepared unlike any other gourmet in town. This is a restaurant in need of a publicist, and I am the girl for the job. Plus, they have ambiance- take note Market restaurant.
I swooned over the duck breast AND confit with grilled nectarines and radicchio. Also enjoyed the veal cheeks. Although I am morally opposed to eating baby cow's faces, my dining partner ate with gusto. Dessert was forgettable. Wine list nice, and competitively priced. Start with the pate platter- split it with a friend, as it is toooo much for one. Scallops amazing as well.
Bottom line: I've had all of the other "Ultra High-end" food in town, and this makes them look like child's play. -
Review from Ellen H.
San Francisco, CA
I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could, but since I can't, I have to go with 2.
First the positives - obviously the setting is exquisite - the golf course, water etc. And the decor/design of the common areas is gorgeous - Frank Lloyd Wright (wood craftsman) meets Tiffany (stained glass to die for) meets Klimt. And the food and spa were both fantastic - worth going to both.
And now for the negatives - first and foremost the service. We needed to get a taxi back from a wedding around 11pm and called the hotel. They said they couldn't help us directly, but gave us the # of a taxi company - excuse me?! Meanwhile the taxi company had no cars available, said they'd call when they did and never called. Fortunately we found a ride from someone else. How does a hotel of this calibre not try at least a little bit to help a guest find a taxi? It was bizarre.
Another example. Our credit card often gets us upgrades at check-in. I asked if we could have one and the woman said "you have already been upgraded". Actually no we hadn't - the room category was as we booked. But no point in fighting - if none were available, so be it. Later that day we called down and asked if they had any free rooms, as we were considered getting a second one because my BF was snoring like a freak (we explained the situation, why we were looking). Yes they said, they did have rooms available, but far from our current spot and for $275. Hmmm - not ideal. Then we asked well what about suites with two separate rooms? "Ah yes we do have a two room suite and I see that you will get this upgrade free with your Amex package". Uh?... I mean come on. Let's see which would make more sense for us, a room across the hotel for an extra $275+tax or a room that is exactly what we need for free (that should have been given to us at check-in)?!? Duh. Yes I think we'll take the suite for free. No one seemed to think or care about what would be good or helpful to us in both this situation and with the car.
Oh and the rooms need a rehab - really ugly to be honest - ugly furniture away from the Tiffany lamps and ugly bathrooms - I think that wallpaper has been in there for over a decade I remember it from a long time ago. . -

quaint luxury and charm
stayed in a double queen room w/mini fridge and microwave
pros:
- room itself: super big! plenty of space for four people. the fridge and microwave came in handy since we stayed all week.
- decor: definitely hit the lodge/forest kind of feel. our balcony overlooked a forest filled courtyard with pines and all sorts of beautiful plants. every morning i felt as if i was in the forest. LOVED the beds! the comforter was super nice and the bed was heavenly to sleep in. the pillows were plush! bathroom amenities were also a plus (lemon sage or rosemary sage scented).
- the hotel: the pool area was nice, the golf course looked spectacular. the main lobby area was beautiful with a huge xmas tree and fireplace that was kept going all day/night with rocking chairs in front
- staff: very attentive and helpful. i LOVED calling housekeeping. im sure theyre trained to answer this way, but they always end the conversation with, do you need anything else? they were always super polite and was able to accommodate us.
- parking: im not sure if this was just for the week we stayed there, but parking was FREE. parking tip: park on your floor so you can get to your room easier
- location: fairly close to the 5, mins from DT san diego.
cons:
- labyrinth: the hotel itself was a bit of a maze. the lobby and our rooms were not connected. had to walk a bit to get to where we needed to.
- HIDDEN: the first time we tried to get to the hotel, we got lost. MULTIPLE TIMES. i thought my navigation was lying to me, but its a bit difficult to find. my tip: READ the SIGNS on the road before turning.
would i stay again? if i had to pay? probably not, cause its outa my price range. :P -

We had the pleasure of staying here for our son's wedding and felt we were in a private manor without the stuffy attitude. The staff from the front desk, concierge, bell man and valet were friendly and offered to assist in any way to make our stay wonderful. Our room was beautiful facing the pine forest. While it can be confusing to get to your room, the fact that you do not face another room prevents signficant noise in the hallway.
The Grille located below the pool is the best buy in town. The menu is fantastic and half the price of any restaurant in the area.
We hosted an open breakfast the day after the wedding and Greg and his staff were incredible seating our guests along with their regulars from the golf course. -

Washington D.C., DC
This hotel is beautiful. The grounds and golf course are very pleasant, the rooms are large (with large, nice bathrooms) and there are even cute little balconies off of the hotel rooms. Even the food was also excellent.
However, for a hotel of this quality (and $$$$) I expect a little more in a few areas. 1) The lighting in the room leaves something to be desired. Even with all of the lights in the room on (5 I believe across a pretty large room, no overhead lighting) the room was still quite dark and reminded me of a seedy night club. If I have an expensive, well-furnished hotel room I want to see it! 2) While theoretically the water temperature did achieve a hotter level, the water pressures possible at these temperatures were abysmal. When I go to a hotel I want a hot shower that isn't going to take me 30 minutes to rinse off the soap. 3) Poorly signed around the hotel. I came here for a work function and would have to go to the front desk anytime I needed to get anywhere because the signs are either non-existant or misleading. This wouldn't usually be something that would bother me too much, but again - we're talking a very expensive place to stay - I expect more for my money. 4) Extremely thin walls. I'm used to hotels with screaming babies in the next room, but for this price I expect thicker walls/more privacy to help me experience the "lodge" ambiance. 5) No booklet in my room of hotel services. Even if it's in a discrete location, I have come to expect a booklet describing what the hotel offers. These usually include room service menus, where I can go in the hotel for the spa, who to call to make appointments etc.
All in all, I enjoyed the majority of my stay, but I have gone to much better places for much less $$$$. I don't see myself coming back unless it's on somebody else's dime. -

If you are an "Arts and Crafts" aficionado, you must stay here. Classic Greene and Greene architecture down to the finest detail, with an amazing golf course and ocean backdrop. The only problem is trying to leave to see San Diego's other sites. The staff was attentive, professional, and yet relaxed and friendly. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary there, and they made it so special we now have to return for future anniversaries.

The Lodge is an all around hit. The building is beautiful and fits into the setting of Torrey Pines State Reserve very well...it looks as if the building belongs there. It is tasteful and elegant without being overly flashy. It is a subdued style and it works wonderfully not to take away but add to the natural surroundings. Torrey Pines is a wonderful place to take a hike and the lodge is a great place to end the day with a cocktail. The bar is great...I have never had a bad time there. Everyone is friendly, the wine list is wonderful, and the food is exceptional. The fire place and couches make for a very cozy and warming expereince. The deck is lovely too and I would imagine would be a great place for a summer time cocktail, but I have tended to visit in the winter. (not like it is cold in San Diego in the winter, but you get the idea.) I have had lunch at AR Valentein and it was amazing. There was no detail spared. The service is immaculate and the food is really delicious. They use very fresh ingredients that work very well with their presentations. I love, love, love the Lodge. I was there this weekend and overheard that they have a complimentary towncar to take you ANYWHERE in San Diego for FREE if you are staying there. Downtown is about a $50 cab ride away, so if you add this in you are really getting a bang for your buck. The amenities are beautiful, the rooms look amazing. It is just a wonderful place.

I have only visited the Spa here, and have been going to the same woman for 4 years for pedicures and reflexology. Dawn is the best! I live in the area, and wouldn't go anywhere else to get my toes done! Once a mont, religiously, I visit the spa and go in to see Dawn, and I have never been dissapointed. The spa is beautiful, and is a great place to go with friends and order lunch and get treatments, and I have always had great experiences with all staff. If you are looking for a high end spa setting I would highly recommend the spa at the Lodge and would definitely suggest booking with Dawn.

I had the pleasure of staying here a few years ago, for my cousin's August wedding. The drive down was quite scenic and relaxing..took the 5 fwy down. The grounds of the Lodge were lovely and manicured to perfection. The staff very friendly, the room was nice, awesome views.
