Let me tell you what Lodge is: It is a cozy unpretentious place, with solid and affordable American comfort food, a short, punchy drinks menu (including local Brooklyn beers), a tatooed waitstaff, an unhurried vibe, big windows overlooking Grand Street, a white antler chanderlier, and an overall retro hipster lodge vibe.
What Lodge is not is the next wave in the culinary arts. And that is okay.
My wife and I tried to sample the two most extreme ends of the menu. I went with the special prociutto wrapped skate with greens, and she went with the vegan meatloaf. Both were massive hits. The skate came out steaming hot with a nutty smell and a flakey texture, combined with the salty crunch of its bacon wrapper. I am actually a rare carnivore who doesn't always crave bacon in his food -- but in this dish, Lodge pulled it off. My wife's vegan meatloaf sounded weird (albeit fitting for Williamsburg), but I will tell you that I have never tasted a more fragrant and flavorful vegan entree before. A crazy mold of beans and fresh fall herbs and other unrecognizable goodies, the faux meatloaf would satisfy even the deepest of meat-eaters. Our meals were all washed down with Sixpoint Ales (I am a big fan!), and our bill was less than $25 a person. Not bad for a casual date night in the 'burg.
My three stars are just that. Lodge is A-Ok. Not mind blowing, but not bad either. Every dish is tasty, although the flavors are simple and nothing is too ambitious. Which is kind of nice sometimes, especially if you are feeling not too ambitious, and just want to linger and eat feel-good comfort food.
The food's pretty good, but the wait for a table can be interminable.
Just got delivery from here, though, and can't say I'll ever patronize them again. The food arrived nearly two hours after order, ice cold, and without the fries. Just not cool at all, Lodge. Next time, I'm going with Jimmy's Diner for my greasy comfort food fix. At least their food is warm.
AMAZING PLACE. Free Wings on Monday nights if you drink/sit at the bar. They are delicious and they come out piping hot. Other items on their list are also to die for including their amazing tater tots and grilled veggies.
I will def be going back!
I've heard actually dining here sucks, but I got a burger with goat cheese and bacon delivered in a reasonable time. Pretty expensive but totally delicious, the quality of my meat was quite impressive. And the delivery girl was super sweet! If I ever get out of bed and try the actual dine-in place, I'll re-evaluate. But for delivery, Lodge is not bad at all.
Dear Santa, forget the pony, please open Lodge in Los Angeles. Pleeeeeeeze.
Saturday brunch of baked eggs and feta with sun dried tomatoes in one delightful little cast iron skillet and a twofer bloody mary. Thankyourverymuch. We stayed for what felt like hours without anyone making us feel harried. Can't wait to go back on a wintrer day. I imagine it would be even more Lodge-y.
Avocado Eggs Benedict ....I love you.
Even though Lodge is always packed for brunch, it's worth the wait. 2 for 1 bloody marys!! Really spicy if you're into that kind of thing (if you're not, then maybe it's not worth the 2 hour wait after all).
Though I've never liked veggie burgers, Lodge is the exception to the rule. Theirs are delicious but it looks so sad sitting on the plate by itself. Remember to order a side of fries with it.
I'm so psyched to finally have gone to Lodge! I'm reserving the fifth star because I didn't eat a proper meal-- just had a great bloody mary the other morning...ahem...afternoon.
The place is totally adorable on the inside (before this I'd just seen it from the outside, longingly pressing my nose up against the glass) and very inviting, especially on a drizzly, chilly Sunday. I definitely want to go back for some nosh and soak in the faux-Adirondack atmosphere.
I have been searching for this restaurant on Yelp for so long. I have eaten here a few times, but strange enough their restaurant sign/symbol is really hard to decipher. Though, yay me, I finally read the menu and figured out where I was.
The manly service with lots of tattoos is very cute. We had him twice! So about our meals, they were decent portions every time. I got their omelet with olives & goat cheese. It was delicious with plenty of cheese. My hubby got the pancakes with chocolate chips. I couldn't stop stealing them. The syrup is really nice as well.
Honestly, the atmosphere is cool and tavern-like with a edgy side being in Williamsburg. However, the food is pretty unmemorable and safe.
when famous friend of molly, danimal, comes to visit me...i know that we'll have to have brunch. and in the case of danimal, it means steak and eggs.
thank goodness for me we were close to the lodge, because the steak and eggs there were awesome. the meat was so good we could taste the suffering.
i had the biscuits and gravy. they were okay. i would go the steak and eggs route next time.
We generally enjoyed our early, early dinner (6pm! Say what!?), and it was great because we didn't have to wait and could pick any table we wanted.
Food was quite delicious. I loved their bread with a unique texture: dense, yet very spongy. When it was served toasted with the steamed mussels appetizer, wow, I could've easily had more of that as the whole meal. The mussels say it's cooked with Old Bay (we are obsessed with Old Bay, so we ordered), but heck, I could not taste any of that.
Regular meat burger was great. The meat was juicy and tasted like beef. It may seem a bit small to most people's standard, but it was perfect for me. Arrangement of the fill-ins was appetizing. $1 extra for a great selection of cheese add-on. I got tater tots with it, I had to, even knowing so well that it's probably the same as one from the freezer aisle... The NY strip was said to be grass-fed, but the burgers didn't have the same mention. So that was a bit disappointing. Conspicuous by its absence? (See picture)
BBQ chicken was brined first, so it was juicy and moist. BBQ sauce has a real kick to it too. It's loaded with spices and herbs but I could hardly name any. The broccoli on the side has no taste and seemed overcooked (see picture).
Drinks were, eh. We tried 3 special cocktails and I was disappointed with all of them. I don't think they skimped on the alcohol but it was not what I expected -- where is the fresh lemon juice, lemonade, local honey, and sweet tea?
oh dear lodge....i went back and was so.......meh.
it took forever to get drinks and food and my boyfriend's ribs were all bone and no meat.
where's the choice cut?!
ill give you ONE more shot, lodge.
ONE MORE.

I have never eaten anything other than brunch/breakfast, and every single time i get the eggs benedict. Only the last time i went, i noticed that they have/had(?) avocado eggs benedict where they put slices of avocado in place of canadian bacon/ham/whatever the traditional structure of eggs benedict is. I don't usually like eggs and meat mixed together, so i was super happy to try avocado with a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and an english muffin. it was AMAZING. poached eggs are great, and this is probably the only place where i could eat their E.B. over and over and over all day. Poaching eggs is HARD but they are flawless at it.
The service here rules too. I've never had a problem, ever. The last time i went, it was kind of during a busy brunch time on a Sunday and their was a new chef apparently, so because we had to wait so long for our food to arrive, the waiter/manager took off 50% of our original bill. AWESOME. THANK YOU.
even though i've moved to queens, i will be making the trip regularly
I came for brunch...BEST Bloody-Mary I've had to date. I originally ordered the Mimosa for the 2 for $8 deal but there was SO MUCH PULP. My friend started out with the bloody-mary and when she let me taste hers, I was in love. The bartender switched me out and all was right with the world...
We were seated and I ordered two eggs, over-easy with bacon and sausage (fatty, I know). HEAVEN. It wasn't super greasy and i loved it. My friends both got eggs benedict (one was avocado, the other alaskan). The were meh. I definately preferred my super delicious meal...and my friends did too because they ate off my plate.
I talked about those bloody-marys for DAYS...which is a great sign in my book.
I always take out sandwiches here. But more than the sandwiches I love the bagel. It is so chewy and tasty with eggs and cream cheese. Good coffee, tea and smoothies. I never ate at the restaurant next door cause I am always on the go.
From what I know, they are strictly organic so I feel good eating their food!
2 for 1 bloody marys! Grilled portobello sandwich! Cute woodsy inside with a patio on the outside! Chad Van Gaalen being played on the stereo! I have nothing bad to say about Lodge, only many good things, punctuated with exclamation marks!
I've been eating at Lodge for two years and I have enjoyed all my meals but I feel it's necessary to share one bad experience that changed my mind and my love for this hipster hot spot.
Went there for brunch the nth time and ordered sausage and biscuits bc I've had everything else. I ate part of it but realized the sausage was pure, RED, RAW in the middle and nearly barfed. I told my waitress (the pale, tall, skinny, tatted apathetic one who always wears black tanks - not to be confused with the other apathetic wait staff) who said "OK" and walked away. NO APOLOGY for RAW MEAT?!?!?! I mean come on. It pissed me off. She didn't apologize, comp the dish or even tell her manager. I had to ask her what she would do, and she didn't do anything anyways. She should be ashamed. I've waited on people a long time and it's not right to serve raw meat. GROSS.
But they do get points for their 2 for 1 drink special, interesting decor, and seriously overly enthusiastic host (love watching him when I'm hungover).
Update:
I still frequent the lodge weekly and enjoy it so. However, I must make one recommendation that is a result of this evening's escapade:
If you offer a lobster roll, don't fuck with it. Keep it simple: lobster, mayo and maybe some slight shaved onions. Once you mix it up from there it no longer tastes like a lobster roll. I tasted: buttered bun, lettuce, tomato and onion. For $18? I'm from New England and you just shouldn't mess up that shit!

The service was awesome, the food looks amazing, but the food didn't impress me the least.
After a hard friday night, I wanted to find the best place to satisfy my 1130 breakfast session. I have this obsession with breakfast joints, and I totally thought this place was going to rock.
The only thing that rocked was our server and the wooden table in the lobby area.
My Americano was less than average-- tepid, too watered down, and no froth...no froth?
Eggs Florentine-- looked amazing, yet everything was missing from it. The eggs whites were still runny, the sauce was bland, the spinach and tomatoes were awesome, but the homefries were burnt and bleh
AhHHHHHHHH. I walked away sad knowing I just spent my hard earned non-recession proof money on a breakfast that didn't make my morning, but make my stomach yearn for that taco truck around the corner. FUCK!
i'm a little surprised with the reviews. i went last night for a bday dinner and not only were we seated in a nice big table, but everything went very well. The service was the only thing that may have earned some remarks (it was a little slow). The beers there are amazing. they have This Lawrence Liquid Gold which is outstanding. And if you're on a budget they have that whole beer and a shot deal for $6. The food was amazing. The waitress and bartender really recommended the brisket, so I had to go with that over the chicken fried steak (it was big and good) and the pulled pork (pulled pork was just ok, not really saucey, but it DID come with gouda mac n cheese). The trout was awesome, altho with the lack of light, you may want to reconsider given the bones involved.
Oh also, they had wings on the specials menu. They were brined and then covered in this homemade hotsauce. really really good stuff. The brisket was very plentiful, think of like a big short rib. the mojitos were just ok, not enough simple sugar, and the blueberry lemonade was really good. If i lived in wililamsburg i would come back.
A friend bought me brunch at Lodge this weekend so that we could chat after a really rough night. Brunch helped. The bloody marys helped more.
I feel like I show up at Lodge once in a while have a decent time, and then don't really feel like coming back around for another 12 weeks. The steak and eggs I got this past weekend were tasty (props to my friend for warning me to order the eggs over medium rather than over easy), but not the best steak and eggs in the neighbourhood. I recall getting chai martinis late some evening there and had way, way more chai martinis than I should've, so that's probably a sign that they were good. I ordered a burger once that was bizarrely sweet, so I won't be doing that again. It's all part of the learning process.
Terrible Service. I went in around 5:00 pm and was told the kitchen doesn't reopen until 5:30, fine my friend and I sat down and ordered some drinks. By the time 5:40 rolled around I asked my waitress if we could order since it is passed 5:30, she took our order and basically that was the last we saw of her. Our food didn't come until 6:30, we weren't offered bread or anything (while all the tables around us were given bread) and my chicken salad had no chicken. After I flagged down our waitress she then checked on the situation and about 20 minutes later i was brought chicken in a bowl that i was supposed to throw on my soggy salad. Total hipster joint with terrible service. not worth the headache or the scene.
I went here for brunch and it was just okay. It's definitely a really cool atmosphere on the interior, but the food and service just doesn't deliver. The menu is generic, and the food to match. Nothing offered to be original aside from the decor and our food took FOREVER to come out from the kitchen.
Overall, go here if you want to look "cool", spend money and eat bland.
The Lodge offers a nice breakfast on the near South Side of Williamsburg. From the brunch we had relative to the Williamsburg area I'd say it's very comparable to what's in the area--neither the greatest meal hidden treasure nor the worst hole diner.
Where the Lodge scores points is a large outdoor seating area, a menu with a large array of breakfast/lunch options of healthy and comfort foods and some more affordable options (waffle = $7, pulled pork/grits = $10).
Too many places in WilliamsB are getting too expensive, know your role restaurants--know the area it's not that flamboyant yet! Well maybe it is but we'd like to believe. I think being on the south side of the town may affect things.
Overall, the food quality was alright. It's not going to razzle dazzle but it's a reliable & convenient spot to have in the neighborhood.
This place is the definition of hit-or-miss. NEVER order a special - or enjoy watching the cranked-out waiters/waitreses squirm as they mumble the ridiculous prices of the elaborate, varied meals du jour. One great thing is they always have Six Point Bengali Tiger on tap - my all-time favorite.
Here's a suggestion - get a great sandwich at their shop next door and bring it into the restaurant, sit at a table and order a Bengali Tiger....great meal, guaranteed.
This is for the General Store:
Love the sandwiches! They're make your own and priced by the meat/meat substitute. And had a delicious fruit smoothie - the blueberry bella! Great for getting a lunch break lunch!
Went a few weeks back with some friends for brunch for the first time. I had passed by a bunch of times and admired the decor but never ate there. We sat outside since it was a nice day. The waitstaff was friendly but the food was terrible! I got a chicken sandwich which was so blackened I had to literally scrape burnt parts off of it to eat it. My boyfriend's dish was served in a nasty unappealing pool of oil. The only positives were that the waitstaff let us sit and loiter for a while without bugging us AND they have 2 for 1 bloody mary's that are really yummy.
Also, why are the bathrooms pitch black? You can't see a damn thing in there, especially if you've been eating out in the bright sunshine and your eyes don't have time to adjust. Food being terrible was enough not to make me go back.
I hate to be mean, but with all the other lovely restaurants with kind caring owners and fabulous food in this neighborhood now, I am not sure why anyone would patron this restaurant. It has taken a huge dive for the worst the last year or so.
I had a drink here the other day at the bar (I swore off the food a long time ago) and I witnessed some pretty crappy attitudes and behavior by the staff towards customers. This place is very amateur, the food is not good and they are not a friendly neighborhood place. I think they stay afloat from tourists alone. No one I know that actually lives around here will set foot inside. They need a serious attitude adjustment at Lodge (and a few cooking lessons wouldn't hurt either).
So I invited one of my best friends from college to come visit me for the weekend. After going to a mediocre gallery down the street, we were both starved and saw this cute little restaurant. They had cute waiters, which was a plus, along with a nice vibe that wasn't too hipster snobbish.
Now on to the food...
I got the chicken ceasar salad. Chicken was moist, dressing was tasty, and lettuce was dark, though I wished they had put more lettuce on the plate for I was done with it and still had about 6 slices of chicken left over to dip into the dressing (which may or may not be a bad thing). My friend got the veggie burger and litterally said that it was the best veggie burger she's ever had. I tried a bite and it was definately amazing. Chock full of veggies and a little sweet, perfect with ketchup on a full bodied roll.
I must recommend the blueberry stoli lemonade, it made me nice and relaxed for our long conversations. My friend had an amaretto lemonade with a weird after taste that was only so-so, but if you like amaretto this is the drink for you.
All in all, I loved the place, and will definately be back.
I have so many conflicting feelings about the Lodge it's hard to organize my thoughts so I think I will post this as a stream of conscious review.
The brunch Host has lost his mind. I'm sure the Lodge gets a tax break for hiring the mentally ill just like everybody else, but it's pretty scary to encounter this dude while in a vulnerable hungover state of mind. I guess he's like the hipster version of an overzealous WalMart greeter and since there is ALWAYS a wait during brunch it is impossible to avoid him.
The prices here are just way too high. The food is very good, but charging 10 bucks for a burger that doesn't come with fries is against God's plan. The brunch is kind of pricey too if you get drinks, which I most certainly do.
The food IS really good. The vegetarian biscuits and gravy is so good that it doesn't even matter that the biscuits are too hard 50 percent of the time. For real! The tofu scramble and the omelette's are also pretty good. The burgers and veggie burgers are really great and the tator tots are almost worth the extra 6 bucks. The drinks are kind of pricey too. A shot of well whiskey runs about 6 dollars.
The other great thing about the Lodge is that it's just a nice place to be. During the day the many windows let in lots of light and at night it's dark and romantically woody.
I just realized I only give one star to everything I review, so I'm reviewing Lodge.
I mean its an above-average brunch, first of all, and the bloody marys are great and two-for-one.
But really I'm here to lay HUGE PROPS on the host (weekends anyway), who is literally the nicest person I've ever met, even though we've never really talked. No joke. This dude is always smiling, friendly and warm, and when you're all hungover on Sunday morning or whatever, thats just the shot in the arm you need to kick off a good brunch.
After reading the reviews, I have to wonder how so many people can have so many sticks up their asses, all at the same time.
Had dinner with my companion at Lodge last night. Generally we avoid the Williamsburg, as we are both too old to be hipsters, and neither one of us really has the energy to generate that "I'm so cool I'm not cool" look so many of these youngsters seem to wear on their faces these days. But I'd wanted to try Lodge, so we went.
On an early evening Sunday, the place wasn't too crowded, and we were seated quickly. Everything on the menu looked great, and I mean everything. We were a little confused, because our menus differed slightly in their descriptions of dishes, but our sweet and helpful (and not cranked out, as I read in some review) waitress was quick to explain the snafu. She was the perfect combo of knowledge and friendliness.
We both ordered cocktails, and if I have a complaint, it's about the bar, taking FOREVER to mix two drinks. WTF? We'd barely begun our martinis when dinner arrived. Bad timing, folks.
I had the bison meatloaf special. Yes, the special. And it was delicious. I am hungry again this morning just thinking about it. Bison and wild boar, (I have a serious weakness for boar), wrapped in bacon, served with dirty mashed and sauteed mushrooms, all slathered in a sweet, herby, perfectly seasoned cream gravy. It was grand. The meat was moist, full of complex flavor, the mashed a nice balance of salt and butter, mmmm.
My companion chose the brisket, and I was glad he did. The balsamic glaze is to die for. The meat was cooked to perfection, fatty and moist, and again, perfectly seasoned.
My only other complaint is that the portions were enormous. I know, I know. And we both made serious stabs at being part of the Clean Plate Club, although we both fell short. It's just that we wanted to order a cheese plate for dessert, but had absolutely no room left over. Pity! I have no doubt that we will return. In all, a wonderful dining experience, and I can't wait to try the pulled pork.
Oh, and one other benefit of this fine establishment being in WB.... no screaming brats running around throwing cheerios!!! Thanks, Lodge. You're the bomb.
What happened to the seitan sandwich???? This last time I went, they had NOTHING vegetarian on the menu except a crappy veggie burger. I asked the waitress about it and she said they actually had two options that weren't on the menu for some reason - vegetarian empanadas and vegan ravioli. The ravioli was fine, and the margaritas were strong but nothing spectacular. I was so grossed out and disappointed. Don't see myself returning.

Brunch here is just the best. Carolina pulled pork with poached eggs is the most delicious and comforting brunch food I've had. The host is one of those people who is just so happy about everything going on around him, and I've never seen him any other way. Great atmosphere, great lighting, and great food. The prices are perhaps a little steep, but really not too bad considering the location and quality. Definitely make a point to come here.
The Lodge is just plain cool. I mean, it looks like a lodge inside. This is always a good look, whether you are a burly type, a hipster type, a hungover type, a dork type or a just plain hungry type.
I went for brunch and the food was spot on. The pancakes come with the fruit IN the pancake better, which is just a game changer entirely.
The icing on the cake: 2 for 1 or BOGO bloody marys.
I do not think even Sisyphus is required to scratch himself, or to groan, or to rejoice, as the fashion is now, always at the same appointed places. And it may even be they are not too particular about the route he takes provided it gets him to his destination safely and on time. And perhaps he thinks each journey is his first. This would keep hope alive, would it not, hellish hope. Whereas to see yourself doing the same thing endlessly over and over again fills you with satisfaction.
I pause to record that I feel in extraordinary form. Delirium perhaps.
Nothing to be done.
We grabbed drinks here right before going to Vutera and I wasn't impressed; however, this post is simply about the drinks. I love going to places that serve drinks in Ball jars - I think it's a nice touch. Paul had the mojitos and I had the Bees Knees and yet we both lacked one thing - alcohol! Neither of us really tasted although by the end of the drink you sort of tasted it. I get that the restaurant is like a lodge so it has wooden tables and chairs; however, the bathroom was super dark. If you were going to check your makeup or see if you spilled something, you can barely see in there. I don't think I will be back but they did have nice large windows.
there is pretty much nothing good on the menu. even the bad things that should taste great (e.g. gouda mac & cheese w/ bacon) totally suck. the trout smells like wet garbage and that was one of the better things i have had there. don't waste your time.
also that crazy ned flanders asexual host guy gives me the heebie-jeebies. stop looking at me with those crazy eyes man!
on the other hand, the General Store next door is not bad at all. I frequently get sandwiches to go and they are always pretty good and made quickly. the delivery is pretty sketchy though, everything is always a bit mashed up so i would just go pick it up to spare yourself the grodiness.
I've only ever been here for brunch on Sunday afternoons, and the place is packed with people from every slice of Williamsburg. Hipsters, tourists, prep students from the city, and the occasional straggler from the B&T crowd that got lost during their walk of shame. It's quite a brunch crowd.
The best thing about the place is the 2-for-1 $10 Bloody Mary's. Order it spicy for a little kick to start your day off right. Rumor has it that Jenny the bartender puts a little bit of coffee in it as well to get us chugging along nicely - but I can neither confirm nor deny that.
The brunch menu is sort of hit or miss. The egg dishes are all pretty good (my two favorites being the Alaskan and Avocado Benedicts), and you can't go wrong with any of their breakfast sides or pancakes. I once tried the burger, and it was only sub-par (but the sweet potato fries were excellent!).
The environment is pretty awesome as well. With it's wood-paneled walls, tree-stump stools, and antler-chandeliers - it's pretty clear why It's called "Lodge". The maître d' is always in a loud and cheery mood whenever you come around (even though the wait is usually 20-40 minutes depending on how big your group is), and the whole staff is very nice as well. Very cozy, and a lot of fun - this is one of those landmark places that gives Williamsburg it's current feel.
PS - the chain smoking hipsters standing outside are harmless, so don't mind them.
Why I keep coming here, I don't know. The brunch line is always long, the service absolutely SUCKS. So what?! 2-for-1 bloody marys/mimosas? P.S. They aren't made very well.
Food is average. Service, don't even get me started.... the only reason why I remotely like this place, it's great during the summer to people watch but I'm not nearly cool enough to keep coming back here.
Ugh.
in a neighborhood full of so-so service, the service today at lodge was abominable. the waitress came to our table only to take our order. she never checked back on us again, even though i saw her checking up on other tables. it was like we were invisible. someone needs to tell the chef steamed vegetables wrapped in egg does not an omelet make. my eggs were so bland, as was his tofu scramble. no flavor whatsoever. we waited 20 minutes for the second bloody mary, which never came, so we just got the check. doubt i'll be coming back again.
