    7/16/2011 3 Check-ins Here

We had a company off-site here 2 weeks ago.  This is a place that's been talked up quite a bit by our NYC travel folks, and I came with high expectations.

I think most of the expectations are met.  It's a gorgeous property, with well trained staff, but there are also signs that it's seen better days.  It affects a French chateau inside and out.  The rooms are nicely appointed and quite roomy - bathroom is particularly pleasant.  The meeting rooms are fine, the pool is beautiful, and Versailles is an airy dining area that 's bathed in sunlight most of the time, without being too hot.

A few minor peeves surround some of the food/service.  The breakfast buffet was generally sumptuous with fresh berries of all kinds, cheeses, and the usual hot items,  While typically delicious, if a little too rich, we had one too many items of food reincarnation.  This phenom reached its nadir when they served "pork soup" one day at lunch.  Only upon seeing the other items on the buffet table did I realize that somebody (not our party) had barbecue the day before!  There was also a serving quirk that was borderline irksome.  For a place that aspires to be classy, their standard practice at the buffet is to NOT have a plate to hold the serving utensil.  So, the scoop for any food item sits INSIDE the chafing dish, with the lid over it.  I just find that odd and gauche.  The gym - not manned, was not well kept up, with the stack of weights that comprises pretty much all your upper-body equipment missing a few pieces, with one side not working (only free weight dumbbells are otherwise available)

This is a 3.5 rounded up to 4 - I don't want people to be scared away from this place - they NEED the business.  July 4th weekend, they were running some pretty attractive deals for rooms!

Nice getaway that is close to Atlanta but far enough away to feel like you've gone somewhere.  Staff were attentive and the grounds were beautiful, but at the end of the day it is just an average hotel in a small town slightly north of the city.  There really was nothing remarkable about this place other than the fact that they charge you for wifi.........can you believe that!

I went for free (a gift) and I would only return for free.
