Great atmosphere, pleasant staff, fantastic comfort food. The mac and cheese is my favorite, followed by the mashed potatoes. Very good portions for the sides and the chicken cooked with apples was very good. The place is relaxed, no blaring music, very comfortable. Alright I over ate while there, ordered way too many sides expecting the portions to be tiny (I was surprised how big they are), lots of boxes are stacked in the fridge. Ready for consumption tomorrow!

Adored our hostess and waiter. They got a nice big tip ;)

When I used to live up Descanso, Local was my go-to brunch spot. I always would get La Razza - a a massive confectionary creature filled with eggs, chorizo, pepper and wrapped in a whole wheat crepe. It would come with a delicious mystery red paste - tomato, peppers? I couldn't figure it out.

I revisited Local for the first time in well over a year the other day and was pleased to find the quality of the food has not changed one beat - except for the lack of the awesome mystery sauce, that accompanied my friends delicious Quinoa burger but was missing from my plate. Even the world's friendliest server, Jack, who I think is incapable of having a bad day (or just patiently waits all day to unleash his pent-up fury after work).

Even the guys who clean up the tables are super helpful in A) getting you a table, which can be uber difficult during the rush hour collectively known as "brunch" B) bringing you any condiments and utensils you may need C) cleaning up after your mess - they really draw a thin line there between making you feel like you're in a take-out/dine-in situation - in all the best ways.

My true complaint that held me back from the illustrious 5 star rating was the wait between our order and our food. it must've been a good 30 minutes between when we had paid and when we received our food, and it was by no means restrictive to our order. I noticed the people that ordered ahead of us hadn't received their food moments before ours finally came out. And yes, this was during brunch hour, probably the heaviest time of traffic for the restaurant, but the crew was so good at moving people through the line and getting the orders through that one would expect the food preparation to follow suit. If I recall correctly, the wait never used to be that long when I used to frequent the spot but maybe the secret's out and the crowds are moving towards one of the best brunch spots on the east side.

Local is my actual local joint. It's located at the bottom of my hill, and I stop in weekly.

The salad bar is always on and by the pound. Fresh selection, and I'm a big fan of the miso shallot dressing. Portions are enormous when ordering from the menu! You can easily share for two people OR make a meal out of an appetizer for one. I especially love the polenta and serrano ham on the dinner menu.

Also, as a native Texan, genuinely fresh-brewed iced tea (no powders, premixed, or lemon) is a rarity to find. Better to get it earlier in the day, though. Twice I've encountered "funky" tea that's been sitting too long, both during dinner hours. Two strikes out of countless great glasses isn't so bad, though.

The staff working the breakfast and lunch shifts is really wonderful, and they make an effort to remember repeat customers. They call you by name, know your favorites, and remember small details which all go a long way to creating loyal customers! They might even treat you to a free drink from time to time.

Maybe I caught them on an off day (it was 9:30 on a Monday morning), but it was pretty so so. I got the eggs and potato fritata thing and it was thoroughly uninspiring. Salad bar looked good but haven't had a chance to try it.

I admire the premise and motto of this restaurant but until they get a proper chef to make great dishes then I wouldn't go out if my way to eat here. Great staff and atmosphere. Avoid the iced tea and lemonade.

Credit to yelp for finding this place.  Out of the way location in Silver Lake but a cool, laidback vibe.  Seems more SF than LA.  You order at the cashier (who was this extremely energetic guy - loved his vibe) and they bring your food order.

Good brunch spot.  The chilaquiles were just ok imo, but the fried eggplant burger was amazing as was the pork belly!

Sizable portions, good food, nice outdoor seating, dog-friendly.  Can't ask for much more...

Only knock on it was they don't serve bloody marys!

Am I missing something? How is this place in business? I thought the food was terrible and the atmosphere was loud and unpleasant.

I ordered the Brown Rice & Vegetable Bowl with Tofu and it was drowned in an overly sweet/salty sauce and was clearly microwaved. I'm sorry but I can microwave food at home if I want to and not pay $11 for it.

It was also so loud from the street traffic and bad music that I could barely hear myself think let alone talk.

I should have known better than to stay and order because I could tell from looking at the salad bar when I entered that the food was not as "fresh and local" as they say it is. The veggies/salad items at the bar looked like they were sitting out for days. Gross.

Arrived during the late lunch time on a Friday.
Service was pleasant, although a tad hard to reach.

Had the spicy fries - I personally did not enjoy them. I saw a lot of people really liked them so I took a chance but.. they were just fairly average fries to me.

Also got the BTLA - bland, nothing distinguished about it. Liked the side salad, no idea what that cup of spicy sauce was on my plate - didn't go well with the salad - perhaps I was supposed to dip my sammich into it? Perhaps they knew the sammich is bland, hence the spicy dippin' sauce?

Liked the outside patio, but this isn't a place I would probably frequent again.

I love Local and have been coming here frequently over the last few years.  It's a great spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner. I love everything about it from its food to its staff.

However, this past weekend I was pretty disappointed in the service I received.

I am allergic to soy milk and my latte was made with soy milk when I specifically double confirmed regular milk which I always do because of my allergy - mistakes happen and I get that, but there was no sympathy or care that their error was one that could have been really harmful to me and my health. Luckily for me, my allergy is sensitive enough that I knew in a sip that it was soy milk because I was having an immediate reaction to the latte so I caught it as soon as possible The woman who I informed didn't even offer an apology which I found to be terribly rude.

I will probably go back to Local anyway because it is one of my favorite spots and I enjoy my meals there, but it was was disappointing to experience such a lack of empathic concern this weekend.

One of my go-to places when I want something close, and reliably and consistently delicious.

So far I've been here five times, four times for lunch and once for dinner. I would definitely recommend lunch over dinner, it's a bit cheaper and the menu is more compelling and a bit lighter.

So far my favorites have been the goat cheese stuffed portabello croquette - soooo good! The curry chicken salad sandwich was also a delicious refreshing option, if you are in the mood for something a bit lighter. Also, the vegetarian reuben was delicious - I am NOT vegetarian and love my meats, but this was mighty good. Most recently, I tried the pork sloppy joe, which was more along the lines of a pulled pork rather than my childhood sloppy joe, but it doesn't matter what its's called if tastes good.

Don't forget the spicy fries with their homemade ranch- a MUST.

Also - the staff is super friendly and nice.

    I'll be back.

Salad bar was BETTER.. yayy!  New items and tasty.

Price was acceptable/good!  I did see the owner/chef behind the scenes, it's been ages since I've seen him there last.  Kudos chef for keeping an eye on things.  I am happy to recommend Local to my friends once again :)

Just in town for the day and looked up on Yelp to see what looked good in the area. The food pictures for Local lured me in!

The Local was just what I was looking for! Yummy breakfast and lunch options, SUPER friendly staff and homemade lemonade..mmmmm

I went with the short stack of pancakes which they graciously topped with bananas and walnuts on my request. I was advised you better have a big appetite when ordering the cast iron pancakes or they are perfect for sharing.

Now I'm wishing I had stayed an extra day because the crepe bar looked so tasty that would have been my next choice :)

I would like to preface this review by saying I have worked in restaurants my whole life and am not one to criticize a place unless it is glaringly bad.
We tried local for the first time for brunch on Saturday. I wanted to love it because it is so close to our house but ended up being disappointed.

Started off by waiting in line for 15 minutes to order. Not terrible but it was very clear that they were overwhelmed and under staffed. Once we ordered the one server/cashier poured our coffees and when I went to pick them up the food runner grabbed them from the counter and wouldn't hand them to us. He pushed past us and set them down on the table with the sugar and cream. Just odd when we were standing there ready to pick up our coffee ourselves. Anyway one star here because the coffee was awesome!

Next our food came out quickly, so a half star for quickness, but it was wrong. My very carnivorous boyfriend was served fake bacon. They corrected the mistake quickly. But I had ordered a side of fruit with my breakfast and you would think because of the name they would serve fresh local fruit right? Wrong. The fruit looked liked it had been sitting somewhere for a long time and I barely ate any of it, think more like the fruit cup at Denny's. The next thing we realized is that my boyfriends order was supposed to be served with toast, so he went inside and asked for the toast but it never came. The other half star in this review is for the potatoes and my omelet was super good.

Was all this worth $35? No way! Will we be coming back, probably not which is a bummer because we live so close! Well maybe for a coffee to go if the line isn't 15 mins long!

Super friendly staff - I need a smile that early in the morning.

The food was fresh and really delicious. I got the chilaquiles with egg and the flavors all worked beautifully together. On the other end of the spectrum my husband had the Belgian waffle with bananas and walnuts, between the two plates there was a serious flavor explosion of yummy. Serious.

I really want to try their salad bar too...

It's all outdoor seating here and the food rocks!  LOCAL, as the name suggests, is committed to using locally-sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible.  Big plus...it also happens to be very local to me.  The menu is small (six starters, seven mains, ten sides and a salad bar for eating in or taking out a la Mrs. Winston's) and everything we tried was amazing!

    * BUTTERNUT SQUASH FRITTERS WITH HONEY BUTTER - The fritters were yummy, but the honey butter was only okay for me...I didn't really detect the honey.

    * ARTICHOKE GOAT CHEESE CROQUETTE WITH MOJO PICON SAUCE AND SALAD GREENS - My friend, who loves goat cheese, ordered this one and liked it.

    * SOUP OF THE DAY - It was a hearty vegetable soup with lots of garbanzo beans.  Perfect for a cool evening.

    * LAMB ALBONDIGAS WITH ALMONDS, CARMELIZED ORANGE AND GREEN RICE - It came with three very large and tasty meatballs (bigger than a golf ball, but smaller than a tennis ball) over a bed of green rice which is actually brown rice made with different herbs to give it its green color and great flavor.  Highly recommended!  By the way, you can also order some green rice as a side...

    * SPICY FRIES - Local offers two tiers of sides at the $5 and $7 level.  These were at the $5 level.  Very good fries and not too spicy.

We enjoyed our meal a lot and the service was great!  Will definitely be back.

My stomach tends to be somewhat apathetic to environmental and socioeconomic concerns when it comes to the food it wants. So, I of course ended up here because of somebody in my life that is a little more ideological about these things. I mention this, because I want to make clear that my enjoyment of food isn't filtered through some philosophical lens that will allow me to chew anything happily, as long as it doesn't offend my personal values.

Since eating here, I've had a reoccurring craving for their vegetarian meatloaf. Now I'm not a vegetarian who managed to find a halfway palatable faux meat dish and so now I rave about it. Rather this was something I actually liked and would want to go eat again. Which when considering all the options one has in the area for places to eat, this is saying a lot.

My tablemate had something they really enjoyed, but I don't remember what that was, even though I have vague memories of them making me try some. Small quirky wine list, but that just forces you to try something you might fall in love with... or that you chug down quick because you don't want to really taste it.

Local is a local gem!  It's not the most romantic spot in Echo Park, but it's cozy, friendly, not pricey and has amazing food.  The menu is not extensive, but what they have is always fresh and tasty, whether it be a vegan treat or a meaty meal...your choice.
They now have a terrific selection of wines by the glass too.
I had Roast Half Chicken with Lemon Oregano Vinaigrette, Fried Green Tomato, Arugula & Goat Cheese for 16 dollars.  It was an amazing blend of tastes and textures.
Randy had Serrano Ham stuffed Pork Chop with Herbed Lemon Marinade, Swiss Chard & Dill Potatoes for 17 dollars.  He nearly ate the plate!

This is a wonderful lunch spot. I've not tried breakfast or dinner, but the curried chicken salad and the BLTA are both excellent. Seating is limited and service is excellent. The salad bar looks awesome, though I have not tried this. Ditto on the crepes.

In fact, next trip will probably be crepes unless I'm in a salad mood. The only thing I'd skip is the coffee. We had cappuccinos which looked excellent, but the coffee beans are in need of an upgrade---suggest Verve!

    Very reasonable, I'll be back!

Order the Chilaquiles. Kind of like breakfast nachos. Scrambled eggs, crispy but soft chips(hard to explain but definitely not soggy), black beans, avocado, cheese. The banana orange juice was tasty as well. Expensive but what isn't in L.A. as I discovered on our most recent visit.

I'd heard plenty about Local through my LA travels but hadn't actually set foot in the place until last night.  Now that I'm local to Local, it seemed like a good mid-week date spot.  We had the butternut squash fritters (YUM), he got the salad bar and the vegan corn chowder, and I ordered the grilled asparagus and the pasta carbonara.  Let me tell you folks...that pasta carbonara is in.cred.i.ble.  I saved quite a bit to eat for my lunch today, and couldn't actually wait for lunch so I ate it for breakfast 5 minutes ago.  Seriously, incredible.

Mad props to having Eagle Rock suds, but I'm hoping they have some other local breweries come in as well for a good beer selection.

I've just moved into the Silver Lake/Echo Park area, and every time I was here for house hunting I ate at Local. The food is a bit more expensive than your average casual dining restaurant, but the quality is high and the service great--so worth every dollar.

I've had the Local crepe, a burger, and the pork sloppy joe with spicy fries. All were delicious. Even if it's 85 degrees out, the covered outdoor area is always cool.

Local is getting 4 stars instead of 5 stars because I don't care much for locally-sourced, organic food, or their extensive "fake meat" menu (although you can ask to replace fake bacon with real bacon--I can't remember if there's a fee for that). Other than that, everything is absolutely delicious!

"Local" ,with its great selection of organic and meat-alternative entrees, is the NEXT BEST thing to my favorite organic go-to eatery in the Bay Area, "Gather."

My friend ordered the 'Rocky Jr. Free Range Chicken Breast Sandwich' with 'Spicy Fries' and I ordered the Whole-Wheat 'Vedge' Crepe with a Fruit Salad on the chalked menu.

The chicken in the sandwich was a little dry but the delicious brioche bread and fresh vegetable toppings made up for it. The icing on the cake was the 'spicy fries.' It wasn't spicy at all and flavored to perfection.

My whole-wheat crepe did not disappoint as well. It was FILLED with vegetables and the fruit serving was rather generous.

All in all, I wish this Silverlake restaurant became my 'Local' go-to.

Hey homies! Long time no review, but I'm feeling inspired. The folks at Local certainly don't need me heaping additional praise on to the pile, but I can't help but spread some more love.

This unique and fantastic diner is nestled between Thirsty Crow and Silver Sun Liquor, and offers only covered patio and outdoor dining. So while their patio is heated, bring a sweater if it might get chilly. Brunch service is like a deli counter, and they bring the wait staff on for dinner. The personnel is truly a highlight. Equal parts friendly, charismatic, and professional.

The seasonal dinner menu, friendly to vegetarians and meat eaters alike, is pretty darn good. And as they don't serve wine or beer, corkage is free of charge, a total plus. But the restaurant really shines during breakfast/brunch. Get the chilaquiles... seriously, just get them.

I went to dinner with some friends here on Thursday night. I came a little before 8 and we had no problem getting a table for 3.

I brought my own bottle of wine, thinking that this place was still BYOB for California wines and...IT'S NOT. There is a $5 corkage fee for wines from California now. WHOMP WHOMP! Not bad but I was hoping that it was still free.

I ordered the spicy fries and got a plate of stuff from the salad bar. The spicy fries were fantastic! I also loved the salad bar. Everything tasted fresh. The chickpea salad was my favorite.

Looking forward to coming here again. Really enjoyed this place.

Organic and local as much as possible. I like that (hello, I'm a San Franciscan).
Started off with the grilled cesar salad that sounded interesting. I was thinking charred but yeah, it was seriously grilled so the greens were at the point of thoroughly cooked. Interesting concept, but outcome was not so good.

Loved my carbonara though (you can't argue with pancetta.. mMMMm) and the bf had an excellent serrano ham stuffed porkchop.

It's not exceptionally amazing, but the food is decent.

I must say this place is awesome besides the fact that I live within walking distance the food is organic and bomb. I feel like this place is better for breakfast than anything else but I wouldn't know I've never had the lunch or dinner. For dinner I recommend the Italian place 50ft away. Only once out of 6 times did I receive a sub par meal and that was coming in at 12 ie much better breakfast before 11:00 but it is served all day the potatoes were black and stale and the bacon tasted stale too. Great fresh squeezed OJ though, very friendly staff especially the gay guy he's awesome. Great jam I always get the Honeywood smoked bacon with eggs potatoes and toast:) 11 bucks not so bad for L.A. I've had much worse for more.

I have never been particularly impressed by Local. The food and the atmosphere are completely forgettable.

    OK. I'm on a roll tonight. Gettin-shit-done! I owe/ed you guys a review!

I live above local in the nearby hills. My treat is to walk down for breakfast or dinner depending on the day.  It's so relaxing to sometimes eat alone with a good book or... In Touch Weekly -- they both have my stories in 'em. I also like to see the fine ass caberaros line up across the way at Los Globos (I went once. See review). It's a good people watching spot in general.

To the counter dewd and evening waitress w/ brown hair. You're both awesome!  I can actually have an interesting conversation with you about wine or the local ingredients. Thanks for always being so warm and inviting. That's a rarity in LA.

I'm so happy that you have a liquor license. You remind me of my cool older sister now. You get me drunk off pink wine and then make me stumble back home alone (sis had a short attention span for me-- she was actually a bitch)

    Tips!!!
    dinner
    Squash fritters
    jidori? chicken
    carbonara
    the pink wine!

    Bfast
any savory crepe all the way!

Mmm, now I wish I was a local. Met up with my friend, Annie C. for brunch. You will first need to read the menu. Second, place your order. Be sure to ask them their favorites. Lastly, take your number and seat yourself outside. Their cow paintings on an adjacent wall somehow put me at ease. Moo.

I was feeling adventurous and decided to try their Tortilla de Papa. (a Spanish egg omelete with potatoes, black beans, salsa, avocado and sour cream) It costed me $14.27. Mmmm soo delicious. I didn't want to put my fork down! It had a little kick to it. Local offers organic foods, that means organic ingredients!! I think the idea is neat, but the items are overpriced. I had my leftovers the minute I got home. It's THAT good, I couldn't wait to finish it. haha.

I went here for breakfast a few weekends ago.

For starters, the service was really really friendly, and the cashier at the counter was really helpful with our always indecisive ways when presented with many good options. I really appreciated that.

I decided to get the french toast, which was delicious. If you haven't had french toast in a while, it will hit the spot. My bacon was nicely done. My boyfriend got the breakfast  eggs, bacon, potatoes. He was not impressed, but then again, he really does make the best breakfast ever, so he is hard to impress. I tried it and I wish his bacon was slightly less burned to death, but the rest was good.

Overall liked the experience, but can't say confidently whether I will be returning soon, since there are so many other local spots to try -no pun intended. Definitely worth trying, but not great enough to make a regular out of me.

I must say, I was extremely impressed about the fact that they take water seriously, because I do, so though I applaud that they serve nicely filtered water (for a $1), I was disappointed that you either pay for good water, or drink tap garbage for free. Though a dollar doesn't seem like much, I know that it doesn't cost a dollar PER GALLON with overhead included and all. So c'mon guys. Factor it in and just give it out for free. That would mean you actually really care. I know business is business, but I am sure there is a profitable and meaningful way to do it. The tap should not even be an option!

With that said, I was given a free sample of this excellent water. So thank you guys at Local for that.

I came here a few days before Christmas and it was understandably not too busy. The layout is a bit odd because as you walk in it looks like a deli or cafe but the main dining area is off to the left, outdoors. I was thankful for the heat lamps--Decemeber in Cali can still be cold. I ordered the half chicken which came with fried green tomatoes except they weren't that green...The chicken was roasted and tasty but it was a bit too salty. Salt is not a flavor. My friend ordered the mashed potatoes and croquettes which she said were good but she didn't seem too excited. The server accidentally brought out an order of the fritters which actually were very tasty so we got lucky! They also have a good selection of beers and the presentation of the food is nice for how casual the restaurant is. Overall I liked the place and would like to return to try other items on their menu. I'm guessing the locals in Silverlake really dig this place. Another bonus is that The Thirsty Crow is just next door!

Never been here before and heard their crepes were excellent. Except I didn't get crepes so I couldn't tell you. I was distracted by the banana waffles. I wanted strawberries, but they "must not have picked any up at the farmers market." Excellent excuse. At least we now know they shop at the farmers market for their produce. I am okay with this.

The guy at the register is oddly friendly. I like him a lot, and I applaud him for being able to maintain a sunny composure to a huge line of people one after the other. He must be some sort of super-human.

We ate outside and it's a place that is very dog-friendly. Also, the guy at the register told us that there is wi-fi and we could come back to do some work that day, but there didn't seem to be any outlets outside and there minimal seating inside, so that didn't seem to be a real option.

The waffle was decent. It was a wheat waffle of some sort and it tasted a little bland. I'd go back to try something else. Maybe a crepe.
