Review from Lissa V.
Sometimes I get confused and think I live in Soho. Between all the time I spend there walking through it's charming streets, eating, drinking, shopping... spending money in general. Then I hit that reality check and sit on the nice long subway ride up to my rightful hood... boo!
However, on nights when I crash at my favorite Soho ladies' Bachelorette pad I always hit local the next am to help defuse my hangover. There are even days I sit at my desk up in midtown wondering how much I'd have to bribe one of the wonderful Local delivery guys to bring me one of their yummy sandwiches... (I've checked several times 45th st is not within the delivery zone).
This place is so cute and everyone that works there is super friendly! Just be careful with their "add-ons" section of the B-fast menu (they charge for all the extras), my Bro once racked up a $12 breakfast sandwich when he was here visiting... oops!
4.5 stars for you Local. I'll certainly keep coming back... your popover egg sandwich and iced coffee is what gets me through 10 mile runs on Saturday mornings! -

Local is pretty good, I like their corn muffin toasted with butter. The people there are very nice.
I haven't tried much of their food food, but it seems more of a snacky place, not somewhere I would go to get a meal.
The bagels/breakfasts, and small clementines they used to have were worth going in for, just to pick up a quick snack.
Their iced teas are really good, i used to get a breakfast iced tea with milk, 2x a day, every time I was working.
They messed up like 3 times and gave me the wrong kind of tea. I brought it back every time, and every time they gave me a cookie :) :3
I would recommend to a friend, their small slices of zucchini bread or lemon loaf are also good. I have to try their salads and sandwiches soon. -

My boyfriend and I stopped in here for lunch and loved it. The employees were nice and the food was delicious. I wouldn't travel across the city for it, but if you're nearby, it's a great place to grab a bite.

And they have yummy coffee and bagels and a yummy-looking egg sammich and they said they'd heat their scones up and butter/jam them for me. -

Cute little coffee shop near work.
Try the avocado toast for breakfast. It's pure awesome. Lemon juice and red pepper flakes are surprisingly good complements for avocado! Who knew? -
Review from Real B.
Cute tiny shop. cute tiny patio built out onto the sidewalk. that's where it ends sadly. I was served the worst espresso in NYC (if not the world) here. Served with a side of attitude. If you are gonna give me the 'tude you better serve it with a killer cup. Didn't make me wanna try the food. Would be a zero or half star (for the patio) if Yelp allowed that...

I recommend this little undiscovered place in Soho. How could I not have noticed it all this time?
The place is small but they actually have a nice menu of food and drinks.
Baristas and everyone that work there are friendly. Great neighborhood fave type of spot. It's real small in there but great to walk into a place with personality.
I have my usuals in here - cappuccino and a cookie. Great afternoon snack and it's just nice to take that breather to walk over there. -

I recently went to have lunch and found the service to be horrific! In the server's rush, she dropped my sandwich on the table. She looked at the half of my sandwich and told me to enjoy my lunch and left. Surprised by her service, I said "excuse me?' She turns around and replies, "You don't really want me to make you a new sandwich...do you? Really???" I say, "Well...yes, that would be nice." She stomps over and takes the plate huffing and puffing. People make mistakes and lunch is a busy time, but the service at Local was unexcusable.

ASTORIA, NY
Local offers different salads, smoothies and sandwiches on the menu and I was surprised to see the cafe also had a dinner menu. Interestingly enough, the dinner menu was pretty much the same price as the lunch menu, although offering different options. I could get a pasta entree at dinner for about the same price I could get a sopressata sandwich, which was around $9. Unfortunately, this is the going rate for sandwiches in the hood - even our local Subway doesn't offer a 12 inch turkey sub as a $5 footlong.
I ordered a sopressata and fresh mozzarella sandwich, with lettuce, tomato and oil and vinegar. I waited no more than 2 minutes for my freshly made sandwich, and was on my way back to the office. My initial thoughts when I unwrapped my sandwich was that it was pretty small. Now I've eaten at Olive's before and Alidoro, and those sandwiches are a beast in comparison.
Still, I loved the simplicity of my sandwich. It allowed me to experience and taste every component of the sandwich. The sandwich didn't fall apart, so each bite had the perfect amount of lettuce, tomato, mozzarella and sopressata. It was actually one of the more enjoyable sandwiches I had in awhile. Also, if you are familiar with an Italian sandwich, most of the time you are left thirsty for hours after eating it due to all the salt. I didn't have that problem though with this sandwich from Local and I think the slices of tomato and lettuce kept the sandwich refreshing and not on the salty side. If you work down in this area, add Local to your lunch rotation. -

There is better coffee within 4-5 blocks area (hell, Caffetteria is right across the street!); there are plenty food options close by as well; yet a latte and an egg sandwich (ham, fontina and basil is what I usually go for, but you can pick your own ingredient mix) at Local is my go-to breakfast combo in the area.
This is a neighborhood coffee place and is a great one at that. I haven't tried it for lunch or dinner, but perhaps one day I'll see it as more than just a coffee/breakfast sandwich place. Until then though, I'm quite happy with Local. -

Adding huge happiness for a fantastic turkey club (great bacon, great bread) and hot chocolate. Perfect.
I like Local because it is local and the people are really nice. Sandwiches could use a dash of salt and are pricey for their size, but very good. The pastries are tasty, too.
My only complaint: please, what is it with NY coffeehouses and their inability to make a) a decent cup and b) a mocha that has, drumroll, chocolate in it (and doesn't taste burnt). I bought one yesterday and tossed it two blocks later -- no, I couldn't go back to have it remade. -

I stopped in to get a quick iced coffee on a 100-degree day. The atmosphere is very cozy and the coffee was pretty good--but $4.25 for a latte?
Maybe I will go back soon to try to food. -
Review from Denis S.
I absolutely hated this place. First, of the 4 meat sandwiches on the menu, three of them were unavailable. On a Thursday at a quarter to one, are you kidding? Second, their turkey sandwich, was way too natural. Meaning, it was bland with no real flavor. It was cold.
I ate half the sandwich and threw the rest away. Not worth it.Listed in: Lunch places in SoHo

New York, NY
I would be in love with this place if it wasn't so overpriced and didn't have this air of moneyed/eco/hipness lingering in the air. A strange combo but on par for this soho/w.village straddler. I appreciate the fresh "local" ingredients but I just can't help feeling ripped-off when I go.. Hence my infrequent trips there even tho it is right around the corner from work.
I have had:
* egg sandwiches (yummy but could use a little more flava and are not filling)
*yogurt with granola (the granola is delicious, yogurt was tart & yummy but the consistency was a little gloopy)
*cookies (very yummy)
*coffee( tasty)
Basically, go to Local if you like your food fresh, local and overpriced. -

The coffee may be good but the food is overpriced and not very good. Spicy meatball was horrible. Worst thing is when they cook the meatballs it stinks up the small place. People came in and walled out it was so bad. Sign #1 it was going to be bad. The popovers are actually good but not something you would go out of your way for.
Better options on Sullivan at and soho. -

First time/last time there. Why? Lukewarm coffee. If you read any of my other reviews you'll notice I have two themes of grumpiness: places that can't do the basic thing they're supposed to do correctly and noisy places that shouldn't be noisy, like a restaurant. (happy buzz is fine, can't hear the person across the table is bad)
So yeah, I was rambling there...short and sweet is if you're going to serve me an expensive cup of joe please make sure it's hot. -

Best croissants in the neighborhood, best chocolate chip cookies Ive EVER eaten and Murrays bagels. Need I say more? Oh, ya, their PBJ is AMAZING.
Watch out for the lines, and the shortbread wasnt to my liking. But this is my favorite breakfast place in the area. -

New York, NY
This place def has that homegrown, organic thing-a-ma-jig thing going on. I haven't had any of their breakfast items, but my coworkers rave about their coffee and the danishes and croissants.
Lunch is always an interesting experience here. First off, this place runs out of food QUICKLY! Get here early, because what once was a 12-item lunch menu quickly turns into a 5-item menu by 12:45p. I haven't quite figured out if this is a symptom of a new and budding business, or a strategy employed to really drive home the point that yes, they are in fact, LOCAL.
Overall, the menu offerings are tasty. The egg salad sandwich, the peanut butter and blueberry preserve sandwich, the Italian sausage sandwich, the ham and fig sandwich, the feta and green peppers sandwich...all tasty and refreshing offerings to the Soho dining area. -

My girlfriend and I were waiting for our 11:00 reservation at the oh-so-exclusive Lupa around the corner and were feeling a bit ravenous. We decided to drop into this cute little shop next to The Room for a quick snack.
Reviewing the menu (which consists of products purchased from local businesses - not necessarily locally sourced), the fondue immediately caught our attention. The plate came with a generous serving of flavorful cheese in the center and thick slices of fresh-baked baguette around the sides. I'm more accustomed to the dipping-style fondue, whereas this reminded me of a Mexican queso fundido. The presentation aside, I have no complaints; the dish was absolutely delectable.
Beyond the food, the service was superb and the general atmosphere just makes you feel good. The menu seems to be focused more on a breakfast/lunch crowd, but it worked quite well for a late evening snack. They closed at 10pm on the Friday we were there, so you won't be grabbing any late night grub here, but if you're looking for something light and you're drinking in SoHo, this place is perfect. -

I wanted to give this place 4 stars for being a nice, small shop in an area of overpriced pretension (though Sullivan is a bit off that beaten track so good things can be found there). I would say that my 3 stars are more like 3.5. The coffee was excellent and not Starbucks. The space was cozy and clean; the music was excellent and not quite bordering on too loud for conversation.
What lost this place a star was the child's sandwich at adult prices...and I'm not talking about food on a children's menu. I ordered the sopresatta and mozarella sandwich on ciabatta for $7 and it was the size of an iPhone, no fooling. It was a fairly good sandwich but not incredible so the price was really off-base whether you go by quality or size. I might go back for the coffee but not for the sandwiches; I'll just head a few blocks to the west and get an awesome panini at 'Ino. True, Ino's version of that sandwich is $10 but it's twice as big and thrice as yummy. -

Local is one of the only coffee places that is open on Sundays in Soho. So it has become a Sunday treat for me!
There are two sandwiches that I LOVE! The first one is the farmer's market egg sandwich with ham, asiago, and tomato w/ ketchup. YUMMMM. I wish I had one now!!! The other sandwich that's fabulous is the sopressata & fresh mozzerella. I love it grilled with oil and vinegar. Double YUMMMM.
Somehow, they also manage to do a perfect bagel with cream cheese. I've never had such perfection in a bagel. Perfectly toasted with the right amount of cream cheese. Everything and sesame are my faves!!!!
The prices are pretty standard for the neighborhood ($4-$9 for sandwiches). The coffee is good. I don't recommend the tea. My friend swears by the popovers - but I haven't tried one yet.
Craig is awesome. I might be his biggest Law and Order fan. Everyone else is friendly too. Mike always has a smile on and good music playing. It's a very Local place :) Is it Sunday yet? -

Fine coffee and agreeable staff that prepares it exactly as you like it.
I've grown very fond on their pressed sandwich with tomato, mozzarella, basil and avocado; the bread touched with drops of vinegar and oil. I noticed someone did not care for the spicy meatballs, I thought they were very good. and had them twice, once in a sandwich and another time served on a plate. A fine place to begin the day and with, as Becky P. observed, excellent popovers. As for the price, I don't know any place nearby, actually owned by someone who lives in the neighborhood, that's any less expensive. Remember the owners of this shop and their employees have to eat, too. -

I live next door and get coffee here every morning. It's beyond approved. The man in the picture with the dog is there every day. He's a whittler. He's always sitting there crafting something!
Great coffee, GREAT Yogurt and muffins. It's a nice spot, and a welcome place! Bummed that a S'Nice is opening on the block and Rabbits too, but S'Nice is Vegan so I'm not psyched... -

This place just opened recently, and it is the product of a former Law and Order actor, Craig Walker and his wife and partner, Elizabeth. For me, it is the place that I cheat on Porto Rico coffeeshop on the weekends.
The spot is tiny, but has seating available with tables and chairs inside, as well as two benches outside. The best part of the place though, hence it's moniker, is that everything is local to either the immediate vicinity or to the state. Some of the bread is from Grandaisy Bakery down the street, the mozzarella comes from Joe's Dairy up the street, and some of the meat comes from Pino's Meat Market across from Joe's (all excellent places in and of themselves). The coffee comes from a local provider as well. The beans come in packages to take home, with a little local flavor added to the names of the different brands.
In adddition to their consistently delicious coffee, the service is great and the owners are generally on hand (his wife just had a baby, their second child, and you can often times find them sitting outside the cafe). The music comes from an IPOD, and it is always a great, interesting, offbeat mix (once it was NKOTB and I was asked to name the band upon walking in...). I cannot attest to all of the food, as I have only had the feta and green pepper sandwich (tasty). But I can tell you that their cookies, as well as the doughnut they serve, are really a great treat.
Definitely go-it is that type of place that is destined to become a classic, a neighborhood favorite, where everyone knows everyone and they know your order before you have even spoken. Plus, you are supporting a place that is helping to support it's community by being, well for lack of a better word, or a thesaurus, local. You won't be disappointed. -

I live next door and only came here twice in about a year or so because the prices were high and the place a bit pretentious. However, I discovered that they have POPOVERS. So now I come here just for that when I want a treat. The popovers are over $2, but they are big and baked fresh.
Also, the folks who work here early morning on the weekend are genuinely friendly. -

We were visiting the area to pop into Purl and needed a break while waiting for our purchases to be wound, and the employees recommended Local immediately. My friend and I quickly understood why.
We both ordered the same thing --a spicy meatball sub on the most incredible artisan bread with fresh mozzarella, delicious tomato sauce, fresh basil --Mmmmm, it was so very very good. The service was friendly and our drinks were also delicious. Made me wish I was local so I could return. Fantastic! -

Good coffee, friendly neighborhood vibe, egg sandwiches great for a weekend brunch. Just wish they had a little more space between tables. Then again, if I didn't enjoy their popovers and egg sandwiches so much, maybe that wouldn't matter!

The coffee's pretty good here. Lighter and less flavorful than Starbucks. Not 5 Stars...but decent. All organic, fair trade and shade grown. Are coffee beans better out of the sun??
They really only serve lunch items here - some sandwiches and such for $5-$9. I've never tried the food here because they stop serving after most of us get out of work. The breakfast menu looks pretty good.
I'm not a huge fan of the shop itself because it's more of a take-a-cup-to-go kind of place. There are only four small tables and you'll be lucky if you're able to hang off the corner of one of them. I'd like to be able to sit-down and hang out a bit but there are never any seats available. Maybe next time... -
Review from Bea B.
With only a few tables in the joint, one should be prepared to take bevvies to the outside bench for a sit after ordering. Also, one should be prepared to squeeze out of the way of the server while waiting in front of the espresso machine for drinks as she/he brings out lovely-looking, simple fare to the tables. Local, an attractive if, however, narrowly sized little joint, is worth a stop-in. Order a "flat white" (a latte with a slightly less milk to espresso ratio than what one would expect and served at a slightly cooler temperature, too) and feel like you're in New Zealand on holiday!

Came here on Sunday because my friend basically lives next door. However it was so crowded and there was a long line. We took it to go and just ate at his apt. The coffee was excellent and so were our wraps. I'm glad I listened to him and waited on the line. It was worth it.

DELICIOUS.
Everything is about $1-2 more than what I would like it to be, but it's all SO worth it.
My favorites are:
- Pukkola;
- Farmer's market egg sandwich (on a croissant);
- Salad w/a shit ton of extra toppings (if you have $15 to spend on a salad);
- Bacon wrapped dates.
Least favorites:
- all sandwiches - very dry, too much bread, not enough everything else. -

I have no ideological incentive to boycott Starbucks, but when I can get better coffee, better sandwiches (the $5 mozzarella is SOOO GOOD!!) and a nicer place to hang out, for about 70% of the price of Starbucks, there's not really any doubt in my mind, when deciding where to go. Just writing this review makes me want to get out of the apartment and down there... see you in five...

I like Local. It's just right - not pretentious, good coffee and treats, usually a table you can grab for a chat but also usually just long enough of a line to feel like you've really gone somewhere to get your coffee, but not so long that your morning coffee feels like a chore. I wish it got a little more light though.
