After eating here I had to do some research on two words I didn't noe and here they are:

Sizes the dishes come in:

Menehune-  little creatures that live in forests of hawaii hidden from human eyes. mischievous and favorite food is mai'a.

Regular is well u noe regular lols

Blalah- (hawaiian mythology) little creatures that live in forests of hawaii hidden from human eyes. mischeivious and favorite food is mai'a.

These are the different sizes available here at Local Boyz Hawaiian Cafe. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
so basically they mean small, regular and large

Marie G and I came here for lunch on a rainy day when i was up in Oregon visiting her. I was in one of those moods where i was hungee but i felt reallie indecisive. I finally decided on a regular Sweet Shoyu Chicken.  http://static.px.yelp....  As you can see in the picture they give u a nice helping of meat, two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was very yummy but the chicken was even better. It was tender, sweet  and juicy chicken.  Marie got the Sweet Shoyu Chicken also but hers came with veggies in the menehune size. http://static.px.yelp....

The food comes in take out containers and the atmosphere here feels very laid back.  It is for sure a very chill place and the food doesn't disappoint. They have a sauce called "Da Sauce" which they have in a waterbottle with a siracha cap. http://static.px.yelp....   my first reaction was O.o  and then i drizzed some on my chicken and it gave it even more flavor. I after eating more of it and pouring more sauce on, i was puzzled because i couldn't figure what they put in their sauce besides shoyu. I was tempted to take our bottle home till I saw this: http://static.px.yelp....
and i didn't want to ruin it for everyone lols.

Lastly i wanted to say i reallie enjoyed looking at the amazingly beautiful mural on the wall. http://static.px.yelp....

YES! YESSS! YESSSSSS!~     that was me having a foodgasm when I ate here for the first time.  For those of you just joining us, my wife and I are in Corvallis because she is interviewing at OSU's Pharm school.  So we wanted to get a taste of the local restaurants here and see if we were going to be able to eat well if we moved to Corvallis.  Let me tell you, even if every restaurant in this city sucked (which isn't the case, thank god), Local Boyz Hawaiian Cafe would be good enough for us to move here!

The best advice I can give you is to get here early.  The stories are true - the lines are long and the wait time can be timely if you come during the rush, which is rumored to be.. always.  We showed up on a Saturday morning.  On weekends, they open a little later at noon.  We got there at 11:30am and were pleasantly surprised to find that we were the only ones there so far.  Whew.  We weren't alone for long, though.  By 11:45am, there was a dozen people behind us!  No kidding!  I've never witnessed such a loyal following before!  By the time the doors opened at noon, there was a line down the hallway and around to the stairway.  It was crazy!  We ran into the restaurant, afraid that if we walked, we would've been trampled.

My next piece of advice:  Dont be a n00b.  I mean it.  Please.  OK, you're probably wondering, "wait, Preston, weren't YOU a n00b that day?"   Yes, technically I was, but I had spent the last 30 minutes in line reading the menu and by the time I was at the register, I knew exactly what to order.  "Number 1a and 24b with two drinks please."  For those of your famaliar with the menu, I just ordered a small Loco Moco($5) and a Large Combo ($13).   Regulars probably thought I was insane.  A large is huuuuge.  Esp the Combo, which has all 3 of the meats: sweet short ribs, chicken, and steak along with 3 scoops of rice and 2 scoops of their macaroni salad.  The small Loco Moco is a patty of ground beef on top of a scoop of rice and has a fried egg on top of it.  Immediately after ordering, go claim a table cause there's only like, a dozen and they fill up fast.

If I ate here everyday (and I will if we move here), I would alternate between the Loco Moco and the Sweet Ribs.  Seriously.  That's all I want.  The steak and chicken are good too, but they're not good enough to make me want to waste any stomach space on them when I could be using that space for the SWEET RIBS!  YESSSS!!!!  i just had another foodgasm while remembering the ribs.   lol.  Oh, and don't forget to try "da sauce", which is a homemade sauce they bottle and put on each table.  It's kinda like a soy sauce, but lighter.  Sweeter.  Whatever it is, it's freakin delicious.  Please don't steal the sauce.  Don't laugh, people do it all the time apparently.  They have signs everywhere that tell you not to steal it because then you'll ruin it for everyone and they'll have to take it away.  So please, don't steal the sauce - or I'll have to tackle you and punch you in the groin.

My last piece of advice:  Do not confuse the Entrance and the Exit.  The entrance is in the hallway, where the line of people are.  The EXIT is the one with the window and the sign that say "EXIT".  I swear to god, the mob almost killed these two women who cut in front of everyone when they walked through the exit and got to the register first.  If my wife hadn't been with me, I would've screamed profanities at them.  Horrible, horrible people.

DEFINITELY the best meal we had in Corvallis. You MUST give this place a try and once you do, you will be a regular, I guarantee it.

Wow. This place had such great reviews, I had to try it. I dont get what is so awesome about this place. I guess elbow macaroni soaked in mayonnaise with pepper, a glob of rice out of an ice cream scooper and some thin stripsof steak cooked with teriyaki sauce is the pinnacle of culinary genius! Who would have thought? Hell, put some teriyaki sauce in a plastic squirt bottle, call it 'da sauce' and... yeah. Maybe I just dont get Hawaiian food. Then again, I suspect this is not an accurate representation of Hawaiian cuisine (edit: I guess it is - "plate lunch"?). My guess is its a comfort food, reminiscent of eating lunch in high school.

I try not to be a negative person, honestly Id much rather write glowing reviews all day long, but this just was not doing it for me. On a positive note, the portions were HUGE, and the staff was friendly. If you do enjoy this sort of food, it seems like a good deal.

Two stars? I am torn-- on one side I really want to give this place a better review because so many of my coworker friends love this joint... and I have only been there once, I'll admit that! On the other hand, I really have no urge to go back there. Ever.

My mom and I went to Local Boyz hoping to bring some food back to her house, after my dad had heard nothing but good reviews from his coworkers. I had heard good reviews too, and we thought it would be fun to try something new. I even went up the dirty, uneven, blue stairs *eight months pregnant* with enthusiastic gusto before realizing they had an elevator :)

I was expecting a laid back atmosphere, in a breathable space, with laid back people, and really moist pulled-style Hawaiian-inspired dishes.

When we got in, we found the place tiny, crowded, and rushed. The woman at the counter was rude in a rushing/dismissive sort of way (to my MOM!!), and in the end, the food was dry, and the macaroni salad tasted like pasta with mayonnaise. Were they trying for that?

Personally, I don't see us ever going back-- but again, so many people seem to love the place that I want to believe we just caught them on a bad day.

Back in highschool (CVHS represent) we'd sneak out at lunch 10 minutes early to drive over here, eat lunch, then drive back and arrive at least 15 minutes late to class. It was so good that it was worth getting in trouble for. When I was debating whether or not to go vegetarian - one of the things that almost stopped me was that I would no longer have much of anything to eat at Local Boyz (no more sweet shoyu chicken? Noooooooooo!). Keep in mind I don't even live on the West coast anymore - and yet just knowing that if I was in town I wouldn't be able to get any of my favorites (though their white rice is very good - and that's probably vegetarian!) was almost enough to keep me from going vegi.

So - point is - this place rocks. Casual atmosphere, good prices, quick service, and, most importantly, awesome food. Line can get bad around lunch time, but otherwise you typically don't have to wait long.

One of the best places to eat in Corvallis.

Great place for a quick lunch.  For all the naysayers out there, try the Sweet Shoyu Chicken.  It's a marinated chicken that literally falls apart in your mouth.  My gf wasn't a fan, until she tried that dish.

The food is good, and if you're craving it nothing else will do, but like a few other people said there are some faults. First of all, the space they occupy is way too small. They need to move and find a bigger building. I have only been able to find a seat there once. The line (at any normal eating hour) is out the door. The woman that takes our orders usually looks rushed and frazzled and in turn is sometimes rude, but that comes with the business I guess. Maybe hire someone else to ease the load?

In saying that, it's pretty tasty. My favorite was the chicken and rice, and I do like 'da sauce'.

Worth giving a shot if you want somewhere new to eat.

This place is pretty good.  Coming from the East Coast, I had never seen a Hawaiian restaurant, so this place was a pleasant surprise.  I usually order the chicken and steak combo.  My only complaints about this place are the unaccommodating waiting area (it can get crowded) and sometimes the meat can be a bit fatty.  But the service is quick and the food is always tasty.  And the servings are very adequate (I've never been brave enough to order a Blalah size).  This reminds me, I need to go back and buy a t-shirt from them...

OMG, love Local Boyz. Upon any and all visits to Corvallis, usually for football games, my best friend and I plan a specific stop here to carbo (and protein) load on steak, ribs, chicken and the excellente macaroni salad. 3 size portions to choose from, huge fountain drinks, and reasonable prices make this spot a perfect pre-football or hangover-next-day oasis. You will undoubtedly see someone you know, or a  former (or current) OSU football player.
Beware of odd hours on the weekends and during the summer. But that is not enough to take away a star.

I've been reading some of the reviews posted here.  It's clear to me that some get it and some don't.  Local Boyz is not gourmet.  It is, however, excellent for quick take out .  It's true that the space is limited and it is crowded at peak hours, which is most of the day.  That should tell you something.  The food is great.  I've been eating at this place for more than 15 years and I can, perhaps, pass on a few tips to make your experience easier.  Go in the first time and be sure to take a menu with you when you leave.  Put the phone number in your cell as the urge may hit you anywhere, any time.  Phone your order in before you go.  They need about 20 minutes to get your order out.  They are that busy all day.  When you go in to pick up take out, it is acceptable to move to the front of the line if you have phoned in your order.  Eat somewhere else, it's crowded.
Either people really like the mac salad or they really don't.  I have found that it is designed to go in your mouth with the main dish, not solo. Mmmm.  If you don't like the mac salad, substitute stir fried veggies or just get exttra rice.  Remember, oriental rice is supposed to be sticky so it can be eaten with chop sticks.  It's the California rice that stays grainy.
My family's favorites are the Shoyu chicken, Sweet spicy chicken, Ono chop steak(sauteed with onions), Hawaiian style steak(no onions).  I always order Blalah(LARGE), because this stuff reheats as good as when it was fresh.  Every time I take left over Local Boyz to work for lunch, my co-workers recognize the fabulous aroma.  "Local Boyz, huh?  Got any extra?"
Not fancy, just awsome!

Food is always good - even though I get the same thing every time. My husband has had a couple of different meals and he's never been disappointed. I feel like the prices are slightly high for how much you get, but of course that does not stop us from going whenever we're in town. Oh, and I heart Da Sauce!

The only reason Local Boyz is getting a decent rating from me is because they are the only place in town that offers Hawaiian food, and I know as well as anyone that when you get the hankering for Hawaiian food, nothing else will do.  Their food is fine, but definitely nothing to write home about, and in my opinion, the macaroni salad is pretty disappointing.  They seem to think that their teriyaki sauce ('Da Sauce, as they call it) is the stuff that dreams are made of, but it tastes like the same old thing to me.

Even more disappointing, however, is the service.  The woman who often takes orders (the owner, perhaps) has been rude to me or the people I've been with the majority of the times I have been in there, and for no reason at that.  The restaurant is way too small for the number of customers that are there during busy times of the day, which leads to long lines and immense chaos.  I would definitely recommend against going for a late lunch (from around 1:00-1:45) since that's when the high school a few blocks away has their break.  Whenever I've gone during this time, the place hasn't had walking room it's been so packed full of high school students, which now that I think of it might be the reason why the cashier is so cranky.

If you're desperately craving some Hawaiian food, Local Boyz will hold you over until you can find something better.  If you're just hungry, I'd recommend finding some place else to eat at.

Local Boyz rocks.  Everything is good.  Try the Loco Moco if you dare :).  I've never had a bad dish.

It does get busy at lunch because everyone loves this place.  The service is fine.  Just keep things moving and everything is great.

Substitute veggies for the Macoroni Salad for a little healthier lunch.

The best Hawaiian Food on the Planet.... I recently flew all the way from San Francisco to go to my favorite college eating spot.

I'm not a Hawaiian food expert, but spent a week in Oahu and the food didn't even come close to Local Boyz, and every "Hawaiian BBQ" I have eaten at in the SF bay area has SUCKED.

LOCAL BOYZ is so tasty.   Especially the white meat chicken and the sweet shoyu.  You can get fresh steamed veggies instead of Macaroni if you are a Calorie counter too.

PLEASE FRANCHISE LOCAL BOYZ AND OPEN UP IN SAN FRANCISCO

Local Boyz is a great little place to check out. It's not the best Hawaiian food I've ever had, but it is good. I think the food is proportional to the prices. I always feel full after ordering the smallest size. They are pretty fast after you order it. I really like their sauce as well. Their macaroni salad is decent.

The only downside is the small size of the restaurant. It can get really busy and the woman who usually takes orders can be a bit rude, especially about leaving the door open. Which is annoying since they should have a bigger place to accommodate their crowds.  But what can you do? It's Corvallis and I'm sure rent can be expensive for businesses. If you drive, parking can be a bit of a pain as well.

Amazing food everything they make is golden.  For beginners I would recommend going with the number 7 which offers a combination of the your of the great meats.  The short ribs are sweet but done on a open flame for the great charbroiled flavor.  For heartier appetites I recommend the loco moco large beef patties with gravy and onions a must try.  Perfect portion sizes with three different sizes oh and don't forget to load up on the DA Sauce which is more than just teriyaki sauce despite what others say.

I think the first time I went to Local Boyz I was a skeptic...and after the first 3a combo I became a junkie. Yelper Melissa P. who wrote  about our regime of getting fueled up before Beaver games is 100% correct in her review. We usually call ahead because of the crazy hours they have...and we don't like the disappointment of getting to the top of Cobblestone Square and seeing the "closed" sign. Anyway, back to my addiction...the staff at Local Boyz is no nonsense but friendly when you're polite and follow the rules. They run a tight ship and they have been amazingly consistent over the years. I graduated from the #3a to the #7 even though I can't finish it! Love and adore them...can't wait for my next trip home. :-)

I consider myself a Hawaiian Food connoisseur, and Local Boyz is where its at.

Lets put things in perspective first.
1. I attended the UofO
2. Eugene has PLENTY of Hawaiian Restaurants

So naturally I should be biased against local boyz, but thats not the case.  At all.

Eugene has plenty of great Hawaiian food restaurants (read my other reviews), but Local Boyz takes the cake (or should i say spam?).

Local boys has the best Hawaiian food in all of Oregon.  There I said it.

I remember drives up to Corvallis specifically just to eat here.  The loco moco is amazing.

Its that good.  Trust me.  Huge portions as well.
