We stayed at this place over Thanksgiving so I could take my parents and family to Hearst Castle. We drove down from Carmel which was an amazing journey down route 1 but in hindsight, we shouldn't have done the 17 mile drive in the morning because its basically more of the same and that's a lot of driving!
After our long journey though, when we got to Little Sur Inn, the staff were welcoming and helpful. The lady told us to book a restaurant as soon as possible because it was Thanksgiving and there wasn't much choice with dining options (don't expect true quick and dirty family dining in Cambria though). We paid $279 for an ocean front room with a (gas) fireplace and patio. We loved the jet tub in the bathroom. That was really great and our kids loved it!
There is a small dining room attached to the reception with a wooden deck where you can sit when the weather is nice and at tea time at 4pm they put out lots of nice goodies to eat and for breakfast (I think 8am) there is a good array of cereals, pastries, fruit, etc. They are casual so you can take stuff back to your room as well.
The beach and boardwalk are directly across Moonstone Beach Drive so it can't get more convenient than that and because this is not a busy road at all, you won't need to worry about noise, etc. There are a lot of sand flies or fleas on the beach and I got bitten a few times so take some spray if you want to hang out there. The sunset was really beautiful.
We had dinner at Madeleines in town which the hotel was recommending to us and it was actually fine despite our noisy 2 year old. We had turkey dinners and they did a pasta for $8 which our kids split. The manager came over and spoke to us.
For a clean, roomy, convenient choice, Little Sur Inn hit the spot for us!
What a wonderfully pleasant surprise this was. While planning a trip up the coast, I was looking for a place where we could spend the night, and if you've ever done this, you know that the pickings can be kind of slim and guidance is spotty online. This seemed like a safe bet and it was for only one night, so we could put up with just about anything.
We were so happy when we walked into our huge room with a large tiled bathroom, plenty of space in the bedroom and the sole heat source was from a beautiful gas fireplace in the corner, next to the round table with four chairs, which was near the window that you could leave open to hear the ocean - which you could see from the room in the day.
The continental breakfast the next morning was the best we had on our trip - filled with local fruits and cheeses as well as freshly made pastries.
Spacious rooms with a fireplace and great homey decor that are right near the ocean - you couldn't get a better place to recharge your batteries while driving up the PCH!
The Yelp reviews are correct....Little Sur Inn is the nicest, most convenient place to stay. Very quiet, too. Tasty cookies, veggies, and cheeses in the afternoon. And a nice continental breakfast. Staff was as friendly and helpful as can be!
Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. Comfy king-size bed. Big bathroom, lots of hot water, too.
Only problem was the recently-installed wireless access did not work from our room. had to connect in the guest lobby. But I shouldn't be connecting to work so much on vacation anyway!
The Little Sur Inn was the best value and best experience I had on my mini-vacation last week, as far as hotels were concerned.
A small Inn along Moonstone Beach, this place was cute, quaint, relaxing, and a great overall place to stay.
The rooms are actually pretty large, well maintained, and have a fireplace, which serves as your heater. Coupled with a mini-fridge (in which they included complimentary bottled water), and a microwave, it was a little home away from home. Their dining guide in the lobby helped us to decide where to eat (in addition to Yelp reviews, of course). And the continental breakfast and late afternoon snacks were a nice touch, too.
Yes, I'll agree with Don that the water pressure was poor, although that seems to be most of the Cambria area, from what I've been told.
Even with the "partial ocean views", we still got a great view of the sunset, and it took maybe 20 steps to get a great view of the water. Not too shabby at all. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, although we didn't eat there.
If I'm back in the area, I think I will probably stay here again, it was a great vacation experience.
This place is great! Way better than expected for the price! Only $100 for a room across from the beach in a little tourist town- hard to find! It was clean and roomy and had HBO! The fireplace was a wonderful thing to have since we left the window open all night to hear the waves. Bathrooms are big and clean. The staff was also very friendly and they serve an afternoon snack and muffin/fruit complimentary breakfast. From the looks of the other places on the strip in Cambria- this place is one of the best. Thanks other Yelpers for the recommendation!
In my mind this is as good as it gets in Cambria! Perfect location to begin our little Christmas time getaway. I've visited and stayed in almost every oceanfront B&B in Cambria over the years since I was like 6 and this one is by far my favorite. Beautiful spacious room with full window doors opening out to a balcony overlooking the ocean, incredibly comfy beds, premium cable, complimentary champagne & appetizers, and a jacuzzi hot tub that did wonders!!! :) The fireplace instantly heated the entire suite allowing us to keep the door cracked open so we could hear the waves crashing at night. They even had wireless internet so I could finalie my fantasy football team for the title game before wine tasting. Festive fun Christmas lights and a view of Hearts castle from our balcony lit up at night is priceless...I'm coming back! :)
Nice spacious rooms with fireplaces which was great, big king bed (though to me the bed was too soft). Unfortunately, the pillows were all large, and I'm a flat pillow person - can't we get a little variety people? Right on the ocean, which is great - just across the street to the boardwalk and beach. Free continental breakfast every morning was nice, and cheese and crackers for an afternoon snack. Shower water pressure was a bit low. But it's pretty much the cheapest of the inns available, so definately not much to complain about.
