If you think the $5 footlong at the competitor is such a bargain, just add about a buck-fifty more and you can get dutch crunch bread, garlic sauce, and fresh meat and veggies.  Too many good sandwiches here to recommend any single one.  I've had pastrami, club combo, black forest ham and all are excellent.  They have online and fax ordering options but I usually like to stand in line to see what looks good at the time.  Caution:  the sandwiches have to be eaten quickly.  I've gotten sick from eating a LL sandwich that was over an hour old.

The line has been out the door for almost thirty years now and may they continue for another thirty years.

Little Luca is such a small place but can produce a HUGE SANDWICH.

Their garlic sauce makes all the difference I believe..

I always get the BBQ beef brisket with pepper jack and it is so good.

It's so huge and if I waited to eat it, it would get soggy so I have to eat it right away. I can never finish a whole sandwich here EVER. So I often share and it just works out perfect. It gets so messy but I do not mind. I want some as I'm writing this review!

I think the ladies who make the sandwiches were a lot nicer back in the days.. But oh well, sandwiches are still as good!

They also bake their bread fresh from the shack thingy in the back if I'm not mistaken.

If I crave certain foods, then its worth a 5-star rating!

I always get the Roasted Turkey and cranberry (extra cranberry) on soft sweet with everything on it, add cucumbers.  Yes, this sandwich is as big as a newborn baby, which is why I eat 1/2, then take a nap and eat the other half for dinner.  Its the hot sauce and the garlic sauce that makes this sandwich.  Too bad they don't sell the bread otherwise I'll be making them at home myself.

***If management is reading...PLEASE make this a wheelchair accessible establishment! My friend (whose in a wheelchair) had to stay outside while I ordered for him..its a lawsuit waiting to happen!

Okay...What would you think if you went to an Italian restaurant and they were out of pasta or a seafood restaurant and they were out of seafood? What if it happened in the middle of the day and not at closing time?

Thursday night 49ers game and I decide to try Little Lucca for some pre-game sandwiches based on the reviews here. At 2:15 in the afternoon I stop by and they are closed informing me that they were out of bread.  Come on!!!  How long has this place been in business? What is their specialty again? Oh that's right...sandwiches...  Out of ALL bread by 2:15 when they close at 5:00?  Really now, I understand that unexpected things happen to the best of businesses, but I have had the opportunity to speak with others since and they commented to me on how this has happened before.  To make matters worse, when I stepped inside not knowing the place was closed (the door was open) I was treated rudely by the people behind the counter.  Talk about adding insult to injury...give me a break!

In these times, businesses need to be especially on their toes to survive and at least be a little watchful of how their business is run and how customers are treated.

Do yourself a favor and go to Darby Dan's for an incredible sandwich.  Skip this place!

They have the best, freshest sandwiches in town!
Every time I go there it's always packed meaning there's usually a line zig zagging out the door.
The only disappointment about this place would have to be they run out of the popular choices of bread quickly and they close before 5-6 p.m.
You definitely get both Quality and Quantity at this place!!!

Not much else to say...Little Lucca's is amazing!

What you get for the price you pay is unbelievable.  The sandwiches are HUGE and the fixings are tasty tasty tasty!  The garlic sauce is extremely strong (really good!) so make sure you have a pack of gum/toothbrush available.

It's a small place and there has been a line out the door the last couple of times I have gone.  If you would like to sit, there is a bench outside, but I also see people eat in their cars.  Go to Little Lucca's!  You will not be disappointed!

OMG, I've loved this place forever.

Cold pastrami on a soft roll with pepperjack cheese (and everything on it) is ALWAYS a winner for me.  The fancier specials like the Lucca Dog get a little bit too salty, greasy, and complicated for my buds, but this place has got a wide enough selection to satisfy anybody!

I always ask them to wrap my two sandwich halves separately, because there's no way in hell I can finish more than half in one sitting.

Huge sandwiches for $6, and heaps of their secret garlic sauce. GO, AND GO AGAIN!!! Just don't go later in the day when they run out of bread... because they will run out .. and then you'll be sad.  Trust me, I know.

Little Lucca's is amazing! The long lines already tell you that this place is gonna be good. They have an entire team of people making sandwiches and still can't keep up with the pace!

So the first time I went, I got the Lucca Club. I don't really remember what was in it but it was intense.

Today I tried the South Western sandwich, which has bbq beef brisket, bbq sauce, carmelized onions, and cheddar on a dutch crunch roll with all the fixings. The sandwich was literally like a small baby. It was heavy!

The best thing about this place is their secret garlic sauce which apparently you can buy by the pint now. It gives the sandwich a great kick!

If you're driving down El Camino, you cannot miss the tiny white wooden shack with the line of people waiting outside. Wanna know what they're waiting for? The Garlic sauce.

My order is constant & predictable: a ham sandwich on dutch crunch. The only variation is what kind of ham (black forest or honey ham) and whether I want a half ($4) or a whole sandwich ($5) that day. I tell them to be generous with the garlic & hot pepper sauce, ask for everything but tomatoes & pick up a bag of chips.

The BFF & I have made it a tradition to pick up sandwiches before a flight or an all day event (i.e. the Pride Parade) & my parents have been coming here for years. It's a South City institution that you have to try if you're in the area running errands, shopping at Costco or have an appointment at Kaiser.

P.S.sometimes, they sell individually wrapped brownies which are phenomenal, they only take credit/debit card if you spend over $10 & portions are gigantic.

DO YOU LIKE YOUR BACON BY THE HANDFULL?

the answer is yes. and if that's the case you will love little lucca's. They serve bacon by the handful, or fistfull depending on who's workin there.

really they give you a lot of everything, the sandwhiches are the length of my forearm and 2-4 times as girthy. so think of it this way. could you eat your entire forearm? maybe, but it would suck because you'd only have one hand to do it. anyways yea huge portions and quality ingredients.

it's funny because a lot of the ppl who work there aren't very friendly. they're not mean per se, but they are gruff. It's how i'd picture a shop called Little Lucca's to be (gesticulation: eyyyy) Kapeesh?

Wow.  After reading all of these reviews and getting some reccomendations from my cousin, I went to Little Lucca today.  When I went inside, there was a line of people waiting to buy the sandwich.  The shop is very very small, only enough for a line.

I ordered something simple, Turkey on Wheat bread.  Ahhh! It was heavenly! I absolutely love that pepper sauce!  It gives an explosion of flavor.  I am definitely coming here again!

BEST sandwich shop!

What ever you do, don't forget to add the garlic and pepper sauce to your sandwich!!  This takes the LARGE piece of artwork made special just for you into a whole new realm.

Fresh cut meats, fresh veggies, freshly made bread, large portions, fair prices.  That pretty much sums it up.  I will stop here every time I make it back to SF.

The best sandwich I have ever had hands down.

This is the new office favorite place to go for lunch. We phone in the order and it usually takes an hour, be prepared the wait is long, but completely worth it.

The sandwich is big enough for two meals and the steak caesar salad sandwich is amazing! Garlic spread on the sandwich is delicious just remember to bring mints with you ha ha.

Check it out you will never have another sandwich anywhere else again!

Absolutely THE best sammie I have ever had. I ordered the small roast turkey on dutch crunch with everything and could only eat half. I saved the second half for dinner. So that's $5.25 for two meals. McDonald's you suck!

PS - There is a gigantic line at noon time, took me 20 mins to wind my way to the cashier. Bring a book or your iPhone.

Wow!  This is the Best Sandwich Spot in the Peninsula!  Been going here for years now.

They have many savory & flavorful sandwich creations!

For plain sandwiches love the Tuna Salad mix.  The recipe they use is TASTY!  MMMMMMMmmmm!!

For Specialty sandwiches, I Love the Lucca HOT BIRD.
It's thick and multiple slices of Sausalito turkey (spicey), with cilantro dressing, and pepper jack cheese, and red bell pepper, heated up, on a huge piece of bread with the all the fixin's like lettuce, tomatoes, etc.  PLUS they spread the signature Garlic Sauce and Pepper Sauce on the bread!

OMG, I'm salivating just thinking about the flavor!

Oh, and guess what, that specialty sandwich is only $7.00 which can feed either 2 people, or 1 person at least for 2-3 meals.  It's that HUGE!!!

In these Tough Economic Times, please DO NOT go to Safeway, Subway, and even Roxie's (I hate to say it, because I grew up with Roxie's.)  But those places are high-priced if you equate the money you pay for the size of the sandwich.

Why I rate Little Lucca better than the above mentioned.

---In comparison to a regular Roxie Sandwich---
In size, 1 Little Luca Sandwich = 2 Roxie Sandwiches.
Both have great flavor.
Summary:  For the price of 1 Roxie Sandwich, I get a Little Luca Sandwich that is twice the size of 1 Roxies.

---In comparison to the $5 Footlong.---
Portion-wise,  Little Lucca Sandwich is NOT SHY with the meat, like they are with at Subway.  We all know the size of the $5 Footlong.

Yet for just $1-2 dollars more, at Little Lucca, their footlong is HUMONGOUS!!

---In comparison to Safeway---
Well, there is NO COMPARISON.  A Safeway sandwich is bland in flavor, and It also is half the size of 1 Little Lucca sandwich.

For more bang for your buck, have yourself a Little Lucca sandwich.

Seriously.  Go.  Now.

Your stomach deserves it!

This place is awesome. I hold lots of good memories here from high school. Go early to get the dutch crunch. The bread is probably the best part about the sandiwch. Dutch crunch is not chewy, not dense, not soft, and not like a baguette. It's like ..I guess..vietnamese french bread? Maybe that's the closest equivalent? Anyway, it's really really good. And worth the $7-8.

Dutch crunch, turkey, with avocado and extra garlic spread; this is the perfect sandwich. Remember to grab napkins when you leave. The sandwich is hearty and messy. :)

By far, the best sandwich I've been to. You'd never guess it by it's appearance from the outside, because it's a small little trailer. But, you get the best tasting sandwiches here. For about $6 you get a gigantic sized sandwich with loads of meat and veggies. The garlic and jalapeno spread pretty much makes it taste so good.

They are always busy here. Every time I come, there is a long line. But the wait is well worth it. The staff is very nice and the same people have been working there since I was in high school, which is about almost 7 years ago. If you're a South City head and never had Little Lucca, you need to seriously come here.

Talk about bang for your buck!  I was visiting San Francisco over the past weekend and my friend hyped it up so much that we had to try it!  When we first got there it literally looked like a house misplaced on a major street.  The line was relatively long (my guess would be 20 minutes or so) as it snaked around the inside.  I was ready to pass our from hunger and could eat a horse!  My friend was telling me they have HUGE sandwiches and he was not joking.  I normally can eat a lot but I was overwhelmed by their regular size sub.  I ate the entire thing and was suffering for it after!

I ordered the Spicy Buffalo on Dutch Crunch bread and I was in love!  So much flavor and also packed with chicken.  If I had to go again, I probably would only order a "small" or split a regular size with a friend.  Would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area!

Words cannot begin to adequately describe the feelings I have for these fine, FINE sandwiches. This is the best sandwich joint I've ever and probably ever will eat at. If you're thinking about sandwiches, it should equate to a quick and affordable experience, but also, they should make you feel orgasmic. Seriously. I feel completely and utterly stoned right now because of the [half of a] Chicken Cordon Bleu I just devoured...

The taste and limitless selections are simply redonkulous. But what's even more redonkulous is the value. That $7-8 sandwich, will feed you and your friend, fully. The only other thing you will need is a drink.

I've been a loyal sandwich eater here since I began working nearby four years ago. I've seen the lunchtime crowd jam packed to the sidewalk. Instead, try to get there early or call/fax in your order and you'll zip right through. Lastly, don't foget to tip =)

Italian roast beef on a soft roll. Mayo, mustard, no hot sauce, extra garlic sauce on not on but BOTH sides of bread, lettuce, no onions, extra pickles and provalone cheese. Slap it together and grab a bag of chips.

Hell I am getting one tomorrow.

While driving around looking for a place to grab lunch at, one of my friends suggested Little Lucca (without the " 's") that's a few blocks away from his house.  He was raving about how delicious their famous original garlic spread is.  So, we decided to try it out.

De-li-cious!  One of my gals and I split an Oven Roasted Turkey on Dutch Crunch bread.  I don't know if it was because I hadn't eaten anything all day (we flew in from LA), but the sandwich was amazing.  The bread had a hint of sweetness that complimented well with the garlic spread.  The spread brought a kick of flavor to your ordinary sandwich, but not enough to make you feel like you're just eating a garlic clove.

My friend and his gf shared a BLT and he said that it was a bit salty because of the ham.  So if you're watching your sodium intake, I'd suggest going with turkey, chicken, or tuna.  Can't wait to come back the next time I visit my SFers again.

P.S. Don't forget the breathe mints/gum!!

This is quite possibly the BEST sandwich I have ever had, and I have eaten A LOT of sandwiches in my lifetime.

Little Lucca is on a a stretch of El Camino where you really wouldn't have any reason to be unless you are going to Costco, Kaiser, Target  or possibly taking a detour from SFO.   Since it looks like a tiny shack, it is also easy to miss, unless you spot the line out the door.

The ingredients are quality, and the menu is extensive, they can make almost any sandwich you want.   I know this makes it sound like things wouldn't be so fresh.  However, judging from the amount of people that come from who knows where (there isn't much around here) to make this their lunch-stop for the day, and also the fact that they run out of things daily if you don't get there early enough, I think it's safe to say that most ingredients are arriving fresh daily.

The fresh baked rolls/buns are fluffy and delish.  I would recommend the sourdough or the dutch crunch.   As far as the meats go, I have only tried a few , but love that they are all freshly sliced right in front of me.    Wow, if i wanted to take it back to my childhood days, they even have liverwurst, which I have not been inspired to try yet but am totally impressed by its presence on the menu.  The secret garlic sauce may be what really makes these sandwiches so awesome.

The sandwiches are HUGE, and when I say huge, I know this is true of a lot of sandwiches, but they take huge to another level.   I think if I ever tried to eat the whole thing, I would be ill.  They keep wonderfully in the fridge though and make a lovely second meal for later or the perfect size for two to share.  Not to mention the fact that they are extremely inexpensive considering the quality and size.

Seating is limited here, I think there are 1 or 2 picnic tables outside, so it's best to plan to take your sandwich to go and enjoy somewhere else.  Also, be prepared to wait . . . but trust me, waiting may be the hardest part . . . but it is so worth it!

I will definitely try to find reasons to keep coming back here even though it is way out of my way.   Ride to the airport anyone?

You know you shouldn't, but you finish the rest of the monster sandwich anyway.  EVEN if you're not really hungry, you decide to eat the rest and lie to yourself that you will go to the gym the next morning.  You also endure being the asshole that brings a sandwich with the smell of bbq sauce permeating in the already cramped room for the first day of your senior seminar.

Yes, Little Lucca's is that good.

How do you write a review for this after you've just had Ike's a few weeks later.   Tough call to put this up there, but i'll say this.  It's defintely truly a hard find.  Like the other folks have said, unless you're out to look for it, you just might find yourself passing it by without knowing it ever existed.

It may be good and delicious, it is merely great in its size and some flavor.  It doesn't have any extraordinary deli meat that would claim this the king.  I do like Lucca's a lot, dont' get me wrong, but its missing something.

Anyhow, I got the following for the Rock the Bells Concert:
-Fire Roasted Caesar - best eat quick before it turns extra soggy from the sauces.  Not to say it isn't great sauce
-Ultimate Lucca - good try, but it didn't conquer me.  I conquered it in entirety

Dutch Crunch is the name of the game.

Lil's Luccas' portion to price ratio is ridiculously awesome.  The wait time is tough, but hey you gotta sacrifice some wait time to get some good stuff.

I still prefer Fire Roasted Steak on Dutch Crunch, or Spicy Buffalo on Dutch Crunch, either way it will still be good.  Their speciality is throw on mayo, mustard, relish sauce and this garlic sauce.  Downside is if you take it home, expect your sandwich to get a bit mushy and soaked, but even then it's still good.

I wish the owner would consider expanding and becoming an actual corporation.  There are endless possibilities.

super big sandwiches for a super reasonable price. I think this sandwich is enough to last me one day , lunch and dinner. thats pretty awesome!

anyways, the place looks like a shaft you can find in your backyard but the quality of sandwiches they offer CANNOT compare to any other places you can think of

PROS: big sandwiches, large variety of choices, a good portion of condiments and meats! not 1 or 2 slices meat but a stack!!! so much better then typical deli stores. NO JOKE

CONS: its a bit small, there is almost a line and parking is not to bad....over rall not much cons maybe upgrade a bigger shaft, too a storage house! yay! jk jk

I'm not a sandwich gal...

As a newbie to Little Lucca, I planned on ordering the Little Lucca combo (mortadella, provolone, salami). However... while waiting in line for about 15 minutes in the scorching heat in the store, I saw the option to order a Headcheese sandwich. Now, not everyone says, "MmMMmMMm... headcheese!" ...but I happen to like headcheese, only because I know what it is. Headcheese meat reminds me of the Vietnamese "ham" meat sandwich... minus the pate, minus the cilantro, pickled veggies, and minus the jalapenos on a fresh French roll. [I'm thinking... mMMMmMMm...]

Anyway, there's nothing little about Little Lucca. I ordered the small size for $1.00 less, on dutch crunch bread. The sandwich comes with mayo, mustard, garlic spread, lettuce, tomato, pickles... pepperoncinis are $0.50 extra. The "small size" sandwich did not look small. It cost $5.25, which is a reasonable price. I really didn't think the taste of the sandwich was all that spectacular. It really tasted rather... blah. I guess I was expecting a lot more because of all the great reviews from fellow yelpers.

But... then again... I repeat... I'm not a sandwich gal.

yeah yeah yeah, i am sure there isn't a question of how great the sandwiches are.

my complaint are the damn workers.  i think they all hate themselves.  i try and order and i get snapped at.  they make each sandwich with such pain and labor, you would think they're prisoners on some sort of work furlough.  I hate going into that place just because of all the negative energy i feel.  ya'll lucky i like my crab on tuesdays.

This place is everything you can ask for in a hole-in-the-wall sandwich joint. Just don't ask questions to anyone and come here. I'm sure anyone whose been here before will recommend it.

If you're not sure what to get, get the Little Lucca combo, it has salami, provolone, and some other meat. Like all the other Yelp reviews say, the sandwiches are huge and no one is lying. They are damn big. If you're like me and don't eat too much, get the smaller size for $1 less. I didn't do this option but I should have because it was a lot of food for pretty cheap. If you usually don't eat a lot, definitely get this smaller size option. I recommend trying the dutch crunch bread, yum.

Lastly, don't think that the hot spread thing they put in all their sandwiches is too hot. It's not really hot. It's actually just a good tanginess. I don't really like spicy; I can't even handle spicy cheetos. I asked the very polite sandwich maker to only put the hot spread on one half on my sandwich just in case it was too hot. This wasn't the case though and I had wished I requested that it be on the whole sandwich.

I can't wait to come back!

I've had the opportunity to stuff my face with Little Lucca's Sandwiches three times now.  Twice, they were delivered to me, and once I had to pick them up.  We tried to put in a phone order at 3:45, but they said they weren't taking anymore phone orders.  So we hopped into the car and got our butts down there as fast as we could.

We walk in and there's a line!  Who orders sandwiches at 4:00 in the afternoon on a Monday?  Shouldn't you all still be at work?  The line was moving so slowly!  We were trying to get to Shoreline by 5:00, but we didn't leave the shop until 5:00.  Everyone was ordering multiple sandwiches, so it slowed everything down.  There were 5 employees inside.  Two made sandwiches, 1 rang people up, 1 was cleaning up, and 1 was cleaning and restocking.

We finally placed our order for 4 sandwiches....3 Lucca's Ultimates and one Wild Turkey.  These sandwiches are best for sharing because they're HUGE!  They're about a foot long each and they're packed full of meat and veggies.  I always get the Ultimate...you can't go wrong with turkey, ham, BACON and cheese!  Their original garlic sauce is the bomb!  Just don't kiss anyone after or they might run away.

This sandwich has become a staple when we go to concerts.  Where else can you get a meal for two for $6.95???  I'll be back for more, and this time, I'm ready for the wait!

Why haven't I written a review for this place!?!?

Well, i thought I did, but I'm glad I double checked.

Sandwhiches...Subs. OH MY GOD. so effin good.

Little Lucca hasn't failed me yet. and from the looks of it, they wont anytime soon.

I mean come on
serving size = LARGE | meat-to-bread ratio = very liberal, meets expectations | condiments = plentiful | beats subway = BY AN EFFIN LANDSLIDE | beats Quiznos = definitely.

Little Lucca, I love you. and I love the fact that you are only a mile away from my house.

Split a sandwich with a friend.  They are best eaten promptly, although you could save the other half for later. The sauces tend to make the sandwich a bit soggy after a few hours, but they still taste great, even if they get messy.

Little Lucca is a time-honored tradition.  Their taste and quality is as good as ever.

Its no wonder that I come all the way from SF just for a sandwich sometimes.
Probably the best sandwich place I know.
