I went to the Little Cupcake Bakeshop for the first time today after reading some Yelp reviews.
Like others have said, this place is adorable! It took me about 5 minutes to order because i kept oo-ing and ahh-ing at everything behind the glass. I honestly couldn't pick for the life of me. I ended up with the banana pudding and Pistachio ice-box cake. The banana pudding was AMAZING, there were Nilla wafers and pieces of banana inside. So so good! The pistachio ice box cake was also delicious.
I cant wait to go back and try more. I couldn't help but notice that they had homemade ice-cream. -
Review from Lisa F.
This place is A-OK in my book.
The desserts (most of em, at least) are solid. The pecan pies are fantastic. A few of the other choices, not so much. The Fruity Pebbles treat (Rice Krispie treat made with Fruity Pebbles instead) was horrible. But personally, I wouldn't expect something with that description to taste great anyway. The blueberry cheesecake also was kinda "meh". There was a third dessert we ordered that left me wanting more. I forget what it was.
But their pecan pie is so good, that they get 3 stars instead of 2. If you're heading to Little Cupcake - get the pecan pie! -

I personally feel their red velvet cupcakes and cake are THEE best! I have to fight off my cat who loves to lick my icing off their red velvet cupcakes and cake!
Their carrot cupcake and pumpkin ice cream were also yummy.
I've found that their chocolate and yellow cakes can be a little dry. -

Hands down the best cupcakes in NYC. Strawberry is my favorite. Unbelievable selection of cupcakes, muffins, pies and puddings. Charming location right off the R train. Great for desert after dinner at nearby Bridgeview diner. They even have sugar free options.

The best place to enjoy yourself is to have an old-fashion sit down cafe experience. The little table offers a cozy idea. Sit down drink a choice of coffee with a cupcake. I like the idea.
Definitely a different positive experience to Starbucks. I walked away with the idea of CUTE! -

I've never been disappointed by anything I ate here. I LOVE their vanilla cupcakes. I actually prefer that one to the other fancier flavors which can be a bit too sweet. I like the espresso drinks and their awesome banana pudding. It's also really a cute, charming little place. Anytime I need a cupcake fix, this is the place I go.

Such a cute place, and the workers wear the cutest uniforms! The people here are friendly and will accommodate personal requests with your drinks, i.e. extra hot, soy, double whip..My favorite drink here is the Nutella cappuccino. So delicious. It's probably 800 calories. So what, I get it every time.
Cupcakes I've tried here: red velvet, carrot cake, cookie dough, coconut cloud, german chocolate--all equally delicious. I didn't think their cupcakes were dry as other Yelpers have mentioned. The frosting, delicious as well.
NOW, onto my FAVORITE item here:
The Pistachio Icebox Cake.
On a whim, I decided to try a slice.
My reaction: OMG! What is this? I feel like I'm sliding down a rainbow! This confection is creamy pistachio goodness, laced with crack. It is definitely laced, I just know it.
A definite must try!! -

Little Cupcake looks like your typical small town USA mom and pop shop--and that's a good thing. That the icing they favor tastes and resembles spackle---that's most definitely NOT a good thing. I'm dropping 2 stars on this place for the simple fact the coffee isn't terrible and the gorgeous girls behind the counter are outfitted in adorable pink T Shirts.

So I think the bakers at Little Cupcake Bakeshop have been reading the reviews on Yelp. I typically avoid their cupcakes, but one day this week I felt an urge to give them another shot. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did! I have been there everyday since! The cupcakes used to be SO dry, but the ones I've experienced over the last week are super moist and delicious.
I've had the following:
Pumpkin spice, which has a cream cheese/ maple flavored icing and is so good!
The Dreaming Princess- white cake with dollop of raspberry and some type of white icing and topped with marshmallow icing and toasted almonds. Apparently there is almond flavoring somewhere, but I'm not sure,. This cupcake is so light and tasty!
Carrot cake- very delicious and moist.
Lemon- sweet, lemony flavored cake and icing.
Peanut Butter and Jelly- White cake, creamy peanut butter flavored icing (think peanut butter fudge, not peanut butter out of the jar) and a swirl of raspberry jelly. (YUM!!!)
Red Velvet- good, but I wish the icing was more of a traditional, southern cream cheese style.
Thank you LCB for improving your cupcakes. I hope I didn't just catch you on a good week! I will continue to enjoy cupcakes. Now, my next request is your price. I ordered 6 cupcakes today and the total was $18. I think this is a little pricey, since the cupcakes are regular size. I don't know, maybe I'm just cheap.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Today, I ate its Raspberry Cream Cheese Bun ($1.75). It's a muffin and baked in a muffin tin. Anyway, I was craving cream cheese and was told that that's in the filling. Nada or nil in the cream cheese department. Though it was filled with a teaspoon of raspberry. This was probably the 2nd time I bought their muffins for breakfast. I better stick to their cookies, cakes and cupcakes.

I love this place so much always come back. Its so warm and relaxing inside. The cupcakes are all delicious and fresh but my favorite is definitely the cookie dough. Rocky road bars are amazing as well. They have ice-cream hidden in the back which you have to ask for.. Ive tried the red velvet and espresso ice-cream and they did not dissapoint me. This place is amazing to just sit down in the winter for a cupcake and a cup of hot cocoa or coffee.

Spent over $30 on a dozen and they sold me day old stale cupcakes. Never again.

Mediocre baked goods at exorbitant prices. Dry, stale cupcakes served with icing that's heavy and not particularly flavorful.
I can pick up cupcakes from Crumbs in the city (far from the best there) and they'll run circles around Little Cupcakes, for less money and a more substantial cupcake. They're at least mediocre, the coffee is worse and every bit as expensive.
One more for the 'avoid' file. -
Review from Doreen L.
Frank Sinatra croons to a back drop of Barbie-pink servers, as you are accosted by mesmerizing display of cakes in glass cake stands, cheesecakes, cupcakes, banana puddings, ice box cakes and cookies.
Pistachio ice box cake - light layers of pistachio cream with soft melt-in-your-mouth vanilla wafers. Perfect after a heavy meal.
Red velvet cake- fluffy cocoa cake layered between super-sweet-white frosting.
I appreciate the ice box cake. Ladies and gentlemen- I would not advise you to consume red velvet anything after eating too much at Korean bbq. The feeling your stomach is going to implode should mean- no red velvet. Pistachio ice box, yes. Red velvet- cease! -
Review from renje g.
Tastewise, I would give this place five stars. The homemade ice cream was unbelievable. I thought I had tasted all iterations of ice cream, gladly I was proven wrong. I have yet to eat the cupcakes I bought, I hope that world is rocked as well.
But I have to know down a star for the price. The ice cream was four dollars plus and extra $1.50 for a cone, and the cupcakes were $3 a piece. I don't even think Magnolia charges that high. It should not cost more than ten dollars for two cupcakes and an ice cream cone, even if this is New York City. -
Review from Becca D.
Brooklyn, NY
I love cupcakes- I really want to like this place. I'm still searching for my favorite cupcake place- I hate Crumbs, Magnolia is so-so, and I really don't want to have to travel an hour into Manhattan for a cupcake anyways (I live 6 blocks away in Bay Ridge).
All the cupcakes I've had here were dry. Red velvet being the least dry. I find most people tend to over-bake cupcakes (I'm a pastry chef by trade, so I'm picky). Their cake on the other hand...tends to be more moist from my experience. I usually get vanilla/vanilla as that's my favorite combo. The icing is SWEET. Just the way I personally like it, but I know it's not everyone's favorite. I think this icing works better on cakes though with a higher cake to icing ratio.
I've had good experiences with the cheesecake, so I would recommend that. I had the pumpkin last fall, and I would definitely get it again this coming fall.
I had the banana pudding once because there's a southern girl inside me and I was severely disappointed. I'm not sure how it got good reviews from others. It was super heavy and cloying. I threw it out after a few bites.
I hate the staff though. They're not friendly, often not helpful. They seriously need some better customer service training.
All and all I only come here for the cheesecake or vanilla cake, and very rarely at that. -

Their Mott street cupcake is probably the best one. Blue velvet is also good. Red velvet is good sometimes but most of the time tends to be dry and piled on with frosting. Dreaming princess cake is delicious. Cheesecake is nothing special. Atmosphere is nice and service is quick.

I rolled my eyes when I saw that Bay Ridge finally got hit by the cupcake boom, but I have to say that the Little Cupcake Bakeshop is a great addition to the neighborhood.
I just devoured a piece of their vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, and it was wonderfully fresh and rich, unlike most of the crap that passes for cake in this town.
You know what I'm talking about - those overly-sugared, air-filled cakes that fill you up about as well as crappy Chinese food.
Well, the Little Cupcake Bakeshop doesn't sling that sh*t - they serve up quality for people who give a damn about what they're eating.
The service was also super-friendly. The guy behind the counter gave me a second slice of cake for free, probably because it was nearing the end of the day.
Well done Little Cupcake Bakeshop. -

I actually didnt purchase a cupcake but one slice of ice box cake which wasnt bad and an oreo cheesecake which was pretty nice too. We ate our cakes and drank or coffee in the bakery and the bakery itself is pleasant and comfortable. The prices are a bit steep but once in a while its nice to indulge.

I don't like paying over $15 bucks for 6 small, dry cupcakes. Not one bit.
With that said, the flavors were there (if they had been fresher/less dry, they would have been really good), they had a nice variety of cupcakes, and it was late in the day when we went...but again, "did not like paying...yada, yada, etc...." you get the idea.. -

Weeeeeeeeeellllllll......as a Bay Ridge resident I really, really, REALLY want to love this place, and sometimes I really do, but mostlyI just feel meh about it.
I was so excited when I first saw the signage for this shop years ago and waited and waited and waited until they finally opened-it was something this part of the neighborhood was really lacking, good coffee and yummy baked goods that are not Italian or Russian in nature......
So, fast forward years later and I have visited the Bakeshop many times and tried many different things and the only really consistent thing that I love there is the banana pudding. I can eat that sucker in 2 min flat! But, I digress, as with most cupcakes, I find these to be dry and some of the sliced cake I find to be dry as well. I would say they are average, but they look soooo puuuurty! The whoopie pie was not to my liking-too big and the filling was more like just marshmallows from a bag shoved in the middle and melted together rather than a creamy, fluffy filling I desire in my whoopie. Have tried the chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies and also was not impressed.
There is a lot of negativity here, but I do love this little space and they serve Illy coffee wich I love(though inconsistently made by highschooler counter girls) and yesterday in the middle of the windy/rain storm I enjoyed a lovely hot chocolate and the muffins I have had are pretty good.
The staff is friendly and the cafe is cute as a button with nice seating outside in the warmer months. Don't go out of your way to go here, but if you pass by stop in for the banana pudding and a coffee and it's a good alternative to the S'bux down the block. -

I've had cupcakes from here quite a few times & I actually think their cupcakes have gotten better over the years. I base a cupcake place on their take ofnclassic vanilla + vanilla buttercream. I had it the other day & it was on point!!! Cake was not dry & the frosting was sugary sweet in a good way.
Their iced coffee is pretty dee-lish!
& love their marsmallow treats toO!
I give it 4 stars only because I do happen to like Sugar Sweet Sunshine & Butter Lane Cupcakes in the city better. But it's still pretty good! -
Review from Isana G.
On days of great desperation, I can be satiated with Little Cupcake Shop's red velvet. All their others cupcakes are pretty gross though. Not gross in Ima-throw-up sort of way but gross in a Ima-overdose-on-sugar-wtf-I'm-not-3-years-old sort of way. Their frosting tastes like pure sugar and is way too dense. The cake tastes like blah blah.
Are these 3/4/5 star reviewers potheads? Have they never had a good cupcake before? Does the shop roll out a special disgusting batch when they see me walking up to the door? What is the meaning of life? -
Review from Luisa D.
I love the look of this bakery. The light pastel colors, brass chandeliers, and wood trim take me back to a time when detail and decor mattered. The pink boxes used for packaging treats is also a nice touch.
The desserts are delicious and decadent. If I could, I would go every week and enjoy a different slice of cake, cup cake, or treat they sell.
It is the perfect place to pick up a quick indulgence, to meet up for a quiet chat with friends, or bring a date too.
The best part was sharing a dessert with my boyfriend and watching the scruffy, middle-aged Greek men sit around this cute, little table, sipping coffee and enjoying a cupcake,
Another reason to love Brooklyn!
So this is a great place to visit, sit, and enjoy the treats. -

Ooof, I'm so disappointed. I'm 7 months pregnant and this place is only 15 blocks from my apartment, so I WANTED to love it. So. Hard.
Unfortunately, yuck. But still giving it two stars for cute interior and friendly staff, and good coffee.
My mom was in town visiting and dessert aficionados that we are, we loaded up on $30 worth of stuff for the weekend. The strawberry cupcake WAS good, the frosting was a bit much, but the cake was really good. However, everything went downhill from there.
The whoopie pies use marshmallow filling. Maybe some people like this, but I don't. It's gross. The oatmeal cookie one we got, wasn't mixed properly -- you could taste big chunks of baking soda throughout the cookie. The chocolate cookie part of the other whoopie, however, was really good.
I was told the carrot cake was "THE BEST CARROT CAKE EVER". I assure you, it was not. There wasn't enough carrot, and way too much sickeningly sweet frosting.
The brownies were decent, but definitely not worth getting excited about.. sorta had a boxed-mixed feel to them.
The mini-cheesecake was OK tasting, but the very middle was really soft and mushy like it hadn't been cooked long enough.
All in all, I won't telling my husband to make the trek down here for me in my pregnant rage any time soon, that's for sure. -
Review from Stella T.
I had a eye opening experience one morning, which made me appreciate this place even more! I ran out of my house without a cup of coffee & since I was right next to HUCKLEBERRY's (coffee shop) I stopped by to grab a cup. It was the most disgusting cup of coffee! I threw it out right outside of where I got it. As I walked up the block in search of a caffeine fix this lovely cupcake shop was in sight, which I stay away from because it's too tempting. I decided to pop in for a cup. As I had my first sip of their ILLY coffee it became so clear to me! This place stands tall above most coffee shops/pastry stores. It was the perfect cup of coffee & made my whole day!

I've been to this place a hand full of times. I live in Queens so it's a super long ride on the R train for me but it's BEYOND worth it.
I went here yesterday to suprise the boy I love with cupcakes since he was mad at me... I got 5 cupcakes: 2 red velvet(ABSOLUTE FAVORITE), a peanut butter, lemon and a strawberry.
The strawberry and lemon were great.. I just love how their cupcakes taste. They're sinful. But the red velvet was the best one. It was the most moist and ahhh the cream cheese frosting is delicious.
I don't know if I'm too generous with my 5 star reviews or what... But the service here is not as good as it used to be. The girls I dealt with yesterday were bitchier than I remember. I asked if they could customize my cupcakes(with one word on each). And she said that they could but that today was just too busy. Okay, it is fourth of July weekend and yes, it was pretty crowded inside. But there were so many workers just not doing anything I'm SURE they could have done it just they didn't want to. I mean they were nearly out of cupcakes, had only one girl frosting cupcakes, and another 3 just gossiping. But it was whatever.. I didn't have the energy to complain. And the price of the cupcakes increased. It's only by 25 cents but that may add up for some.
But all in all, this is a really really cute place. The first time I came was late one night after a Valentine's dinner. Perfect setting for a little after dinner cutesey date. Or for hanging out with the girls.
They also make good mini cheesecake things & hot chocolate. Been dying to try their banana pudding. Maybe on my next visit.
But if you love cupcakes, definitely give this place a chance. Worth the hike from far away boroughs & other areas of Brooklyn even if it's not convenient to get to. -

Sugar Coma...the 2 words I use to describe the icing!
A cutesy place like a child having a tea party and Strawberry Shortcake as your hostess!
A parking ticket trap...DO NOT double park and run in because you will find a ticket on your car in 10 seconds! -

I f--king love cupcakes. I honestly don't think I ever met a cupcake I didn't like.
This is a really cute bakery in the heart of Bay Ridge (they just opened up a second locale on Prince Street in Manhattan) that plays old-time standards and jazz. Nice amount of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a sweet treat and a leisurely cup of coffee.
I took a point off because I thought my peanut butter cupcake could have been more peanut butter-y (why yes, I just invented a word). My friend had a *blue* velvet, which he said was very good.
I spy with my little eye a Nutella cheesecake that I must try. -

The decor of the place is beautiful! I'm not a fan of the cupcakes here, the frosting is way too sweet. You can feel the texture of the sugar in the frosting which really turned me off. They have awesome coffee and banana pudding! Some of the girls at the counter weren't so nice. It helps to be nice when you have a tip jar, a smile wont kill you!

I can't believe after years of heading to Bay Ridge to shop at Century 21, this little gem was there all along.
I went into the pretty shop, and was excited to see all the colorful cupcakes and other deserts. A few people were sitting at tables, and chatting while drinking coffee.
I decided on a strawberry cupcake (so good!) and golden vanilla with green frosting. The cake was neither dry nor the icing too sweet. The lady behind the counter was friendly and patient as I was confused by all the pretty colors.
I also bought a slice of vanilla cake with pink frosting. It was divine- I enjoyed that even more than the cupcakes. Amy's Bread makes a similar cake, and I like the one from this shop much better. Next time I will get 1 cupcake and another slice for sure!
The blue velvet cupcake is very intriguing, I will try that next time I return. Hopefully not too soon for my waistline! -

I can't believe this place in the far end of Bay Ridge has 100 reviews - how awesome is that?!
Who doesn't love a good f'ing cupcake?!? Working in Manhattan, I love to try a bunch of cupcake places and don't get me wrong Crumbs is great but to be totally honest with you - for the quality and price and tastiness, I don't need the Cupcake Pomp & Circumstance when I can come right here!
My boyfriend loves red velvet cake/cupcakes/steak/enchiladas you name it - if it's made of red velvet, he wants to try it. I always try to surprise him with a red velvet treat every once in a while and these cupcakes have become one of his favorites - he loves how moist they are - by the way, can I just say that I am so grossed out by the word moist?! Anyway, that's the best way to describe it and he also loves the frosting.
The plain ole vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting is great and I love the peanut butter - that's my "let's not think about what we are eating today" cupcake! Sooooo good!
I wish I had time to sit and enjoy my desserts here because it's such a cute place but alas, that's never the case! One day, I'll stop by with a book and just hang out. -

So on my last day at my office, one of my clients who is also from Bay Ridge decided to surprise me with two of Little Cupcake Bakeshop's cupcakes. It was super sweet of him. He got me a red velvet & a strawberry cupcake. Both were delicious! The cupcakes are a little smaller than the ones from crumbs, but are super soft and rich. The frosting is amazing, its not too sweet and pairs up perfectly with the cupcakes. I can't wait to try the other cupcakes

These cupcakes are not anything to rave about. I have definitely experienced better ones in less hyped up places. Their cupcakes are a dry little puck, covered up by 3 inches of unpleasant severely sweet frosting. Plus they are way overpriced.

some people need some tutoring on baked goods. and good coffee.
especially in bay ridge.
should this place be talked about the way it is? NO.
are the cupcakes good enough to name and brand the establishment around that product? NO (same quality you will find at pathmark)
is illy really good as people think it is? NO.
although it might sound like i do, but do i really hate this place? NO, but i think there is MUCH better cupcakes&sweets and espresso choices at other bakeries even in brooklyn.
bay ridge is in need of a GOOD coffee/sweet spot. cafe cafe, mocha mocha and all the rest just dont make the cut. -

I can't believe the reviews are so high of this place! It is HORRIBLE. The staff is sweet, but that's the only thing going for it. I've tried 6 different flavors and every single one was overcooked. The cake was dry and the icing wasn't great either. I will never go back.

I remember that I used to like Little Cupcake, a LOT, when they first opened. But I think the quality has gone way, way down of late.
Took some assorted cupcakes and brownies to a friend's house a couple of weeks ago. The brownies were overly soft, more like mushy fudge, too sweet, gritty, and not chocolatey enough. Not even some nuts to give them texture. And I swear, all the cupcake flavors tasted alike - which was basically no flavor. But the worst was the icing - YECHH!!! Believe me, I like my sweets, but this icing is gross - like eating pure sugar in paste form. I guess it's supposed to be buttercream, but no, it's just sugar-shock sugar with food coloring. Ugh, no thanks.
So why as many as two stars? Because like a fool, I'm hoping that some day, they will restore their baked goods to their former goodness (but how often does that really happen, right?). And from the brisk business they do, I guess some people must like them. How about this: three stars for the pleasant, young staff and the adorable corner shop, but only one for the baked goods.
