Great little place to go to on a nice sunny day. I use to come here all the time back in college just to relax and free my mind. Very easy to get to. Find 5 Crowns on PCH and Poppy and take Poppy to the beach. Park along the street and walk down to some tide pools.
If you have little ones, they'll love it. Pretty easy walk for them and you don't have to go out too far to be able to see some sea life.
If I were able to have a place at the beach, this would be it for me.

Tidepools!
It is perfect to bring the little ones and demonstrate how beautiful the beach is and as to why we need to protect them.
I did several photo projects on this beach and from any angle this place is gorgeous. The place is neat to walk around and see the beauty this little area contains.

Little Corona is gorgeous and picturesque. It's really worth checking it out at least once if not for pictures, then to at least stroll around the coast line and maybe even climb some rocks. If your goal is to have the quintessential "day at the beach," however, I recommend going about 2 miles north to Main Beach. That's where you'll find plenty of space to lay out, beautiful people to watch, and great surf to enjoy.

Define (wikipedia) :Stress "...the disruption of homeostasis through physical or psychological stimuli..." WTF, how about (rhettipedia) "when the shit's of life punch you in the FACE"
What to do...? Some go to Shakey's Pizza and buy a family meal for themselves and eat it naked in bed in front of the tv (don't ask), some just like to drive or get away, many just brush it off, while others jump. Just remember... there will always be a tomorrow, your family will always love you, your true friends will always be there, and if you have a dog he/she will always get excited to see you and their friendship will never waver.
To each their own, have a "special place" to reflect, collect in thought, and reminisce. This little slice of heaven known as Little CDM Beach is that place for me. Thankfully I'm a happy go lucky person but every once in a while I like to walk to this beach and bask in the tranquility for all its glory.
I love the fact that, like the title, it is a small beach. You can stand at Goldenrod and Ocean and take it all in. From the Newport Harbor, Balboa Island, hidden coves (next to the rocky cliffs), jetty, fire pits, volley ball courts, to the beautiful homes. It's a rather serene and beautiful cornucopia of beachness that at first glance will make anyone feel at peace.
Fishing off the jetty I've caught Perch and Corbina; both would have been tasty with a little evoo, garlic, lime, cilantro if it weren't for that greedy little seal who kept stealing my catch *shaking my fist towards his/her/its direction*. Relaxing by the fire pits w/ friends is always fun especially if you can coarse a friend/foe to wait most of the day and guarantee a spot. You can't drink on this beach, but the occasional nalgene bottle filled with wine has never been a problem in the past.
The volleyball courts are fun and inviting unlike other public beaches (Venice, Santa Monica) where men and "manly" women come to dominate anyone and everything. At CDM these courts usually contain the occasional out of shape but friendly UCI student looking for a fun game.
The cove next to the rocky cliffs (right in front of Goldenrod) is uber nice. There are stairs to help getting down to this area but you still have to do a little climbing. On a low tide you can relax with friends and a cigar at hand. I like coming at night (when the beach is closed shhhh... don't tell anyone) and just shooting the breeze with others. The water glows from the moonlight and the surf sound is really peaceful.
Tip on parking... If you want to pay $10 go ahead and drive down to the beach public parking lot. Otherwise, from PCH going South make a Right on Goldenrod (next to the Starbucks and Brugger's) and drive as far as possible until the dead end. You will come to a walking bridge and try to park anywhere near this residential area (it's usually really easy to find a spot even on the hottest of summer days). Just walk over the bridge and continue on Goldenrod to the beach. It's a nice walk with views of the homes.
This beach is awesome for everything mentioned above. It's not a surfer's beach but fun nonetheless.

NOTE: Little Corona is a Marine Protected Area. There is
ABSOLUTELY NO COLLECTING of animals, shells
or rocks from the tide-pools or the adjoining sand beach.
The City of Newport and the State of CA have tide pool rangers to police the area. The State rangers will write tickets for disturbing or removing any indigenous material. Big $$$ fines.
That being said...Little Corona is a treasure. Bring your camera and check the tides. If you're lucky enough to visit the beach at low tide, put on your tennies and climb out on the rocks. You'll see all kinds of marine life depending on the season. Be careful to walk on the rocks and stay out of the water and off of the sea creatures (who can look a lot like plants.)
Bring snacks and water as there is no food and you'll have to walk up the hill for a drinking fountain.
Great fun for kids, naturalists, and photographers.

In my dreams, I live in Corona del Mar. I always bypass the larger beaches and head for this little gem.
Just turn off PCH at Poppy Avenue and park where it intersects Ocean Blvd. Look around and imagine what it must be like to live in one of these homes. They are so unique and beautiful. Each one more interesting then the next. Take in the view from the top then head down the steep hill and enjoy some of the best tide pools I've found in the area. Really small cove but it always seems quiet and private compared to most other beach areas.
This weekend there was a small family group gathered to take photos against the beautiful backdrop of the cliffs and ocean. One guy wore a kilt and it was a really windy day. It takes a brave man to wear a kilt (in the traditional way) on a windy day!
There were also several small school groups there to investigate the tide pools and ocean life. When you are done here you can head back up the hill to see the view from Inspiration Point and head to the more crowded Corona Del Mar beach.

It's funny Bryan mentions this, because this is what I've done once a week throughout my entire summer.
put on some water shoes, climb around the rocks, and again, and again.
Go to arch rock, bring some booze or a joose for a quick buzz, climb up the rock and make sure to bring at least one woman to watch them scream as they fall thirty feet.
Also: doing a backflip off said rock is an awesome Idea, if you have the balls and also do not over-rotate. It seems I found the kohones but my neck regretted the decision for the next three to four days.

i grew up down the street from this beach. i used to pretend it was our private beach. watching the sun set here is my earliest childhood memory.
little corona del mar beach is my favorite place in the world without even thinking about it. it's so beautiful and natural and special, it completely makes me question whether or not God exists. my usual answer is a resounding 'no' but when i see something like this, i can't imagine this beach being created all on its own. this beach is so captivating it had to have been made by someone. and i suppose God deserves the recognition.

This was a fun place to host a bonfire and make new friends! Still sad that there's a curfew here. They kick you out at 10:30.

Super nice beach, makes up for how small it is, but I guess the intimacy of the place is great.… Read more »
We've come here a few times, and it is always pretty. Turn onto Marguerite off of the PCH, and drive along Ocean to find free street parking, although it can get a little crowded in the summer. The entrance to the beach is at the end of Ocean, where it intersects with Poppy. It's a lovely beach to watch the sunset or laugh at the kids and puppies cavorting in the waves - we even caught a glimpse of some dolphins not too far out. And almost every time we have been here, someone is doing wedding photography or family portraits. After the sun sets you can walk along Ocean Blvd. and gawk at the expensive houses.
I like to look in the windows of the houses as I walk towards the paved ramp into the beach. My boyfriend says that the houses with slides make him think of homes in Rosarito Beach or Tijuana. Sometimes there's a man in front of an easel at the overlook but he doesn't seem to get a lot done in an afternoon. There are a lot of cross-country runners practicing in a group around the neighborhood on the weekend. There's a public restroom also.
One of my favorite beaches in Orange County. Parking during the summer can be sketchy if you want to pay $10 to park at the lot. Hunt around in the residential areas and you'll be fine. Practice your parallel parking! If you need help, let me know and maybe I'll come to your rescue.

A great little beach. It feels peaceful and non-commercial here, even in the summer when it's busy. Waves are small, so you don't have to contend with surfers. The fact that you can park free on the residential streets and have to walk down a slope makes the beach feel like a secret, even though it's obviously a public place. Can't wait for my baby nephew to visit so that I can roll him onto the sand.

i, along with bryan and travis, can attest to naked rock jumping and beer drinking being a definite possibility here. what's best is how, on that particular cove, you can congregate and get your party on in front of, literally, one of the richest houses in america! called "The Portebello" for its curvy, organic design, this home is on the market for $75 million, making it one of the top 5 richest homes in the nation. there's no better place to openly piss, scream, chug, and smoke than in front of the rich.

little corona is cool, but sneaking through a golf course and tunneling under a gate to go to the (almost individually) private beach to the left of it is so much more rewarding. you can jump on a cliff naked into the water, beer in hand, yelling "fuck ya'll!"
