Probably the best Thai food in ATL. Great curries and appetizers.
Stay with the Thai food on the menu, however. If you want Chinese food, go somewhere else.
Finally got over there. Damn fine Tom Kha Gai. Too bad it doesn't come with the lunch special, but well worth getting a side bowl. The folks at Thai Chili should get over there and learn how it's done!
Excellent flavors on the noodles, a bit sweet but wonderful. Thai hot is not very hot. I think we ended up with whitey hot...
Love the feeling inside, nice clean fish tanks, cool pics on the wall, happy people enjoying great food!
Cheers,
H
Ah, my love, my rock. Little Bangkok's been one of my go-to takeout places this past semester, and for the most part, they haven't disappointed.
The curries aren't bad. The panang and massaman chicken curries are on par with the better Thai curries I've had, though they're not the best. The avocado shrimp curry was excellent, though, with generous helpings of shrimp and onion with chunks of avocado that blend into the creamy sauce.
The noodles stand out, too. The pad see ew, which I usually order with chicken, is delicious. And while I don't normally order pad thai, the huge crush of takeout orders at dinnertime is bound to go awry on occasion. Their mistake was my gain; their pad thai is one of the best I've had. (Or maybe I was just particularly hungry that night; after all, I was too lazy to head back and correct my order.)
But some of their other dishes are a bit weaker. Their curried fried rices are good, but not great. The flavor gets a bit flat and boring after two or three bites; you're probably eating what was an afterthought to the rest of the menu. And the yum nua? Tough pieces of overcooked steak on a few sheets of wilted iceberg lettuce. Not great. Its saving grace was the flavor, which I got a lot of, probably because it took so long to chew the pieces of meat.
Don't even think about touching the Chinese menu. Bland and inedible.
And while the location is relatively convenient, and while takeout orders are usually ready in less than 10 minutes, the crush of traffic on Cheshire Bridge can be bothersome. Headed westbound on La Vista, that protected left turn arrow onto Cheshire Bridge lets three, maybe four, cars through at a time. And then you have to deal with the crush of people picking up their takeout orders in that tiny foyer with the door that swings inward. It's not so much that it's infuriating, or that I'm easily infuriated. But it gets on my nerves when I'm hungry. And I'm hungry most of the time.
Went there on a whim. Was worth it tho; my first time trying Pad Thai. I'd definitely do it again.
The restaurant itself looks shady from the outside but the food is excellent, so is the service.
Amazing!
This was the first Thai Restraunt I have been to that put baby corn in the Panang curry... :(
I don't give props lightly but Little Bangkok gets high praise from me. I love Thai food and find Atlanta lacking but this small unassuming restaurant is always a treat.
The menu is split between Thai and Chinese so people that don't enjoy the strict Thai flavors have options. I personally bounce between the Basil Chicken and the Pad Kee Mao, both of which are spicy, while my girlfriend sticks with the curries--she's vegetarian btw. If you like spicy but want to be able to control the burn it's easy to skip over the peppers since they always do large chunks and don't over stir so the seeds remain in their husks.
The specials are usually very good. A friend had basil steak this weekend and was very happy. They are also vegetarian friendly and offer tofu as an option for any dish if you ask and have a few tasty vegetarian appetizers. Servings are generous and I usually find myself having just a bit too much at each meal and if I order an appetizer there will be a to go box. My girlfriend however always has a meals worth in leftovers whenever we go.
The service is good but a little odd. You are never sure if you should pay at the counter or the waiter--it does vary visit to visit. Also the place is a small hole-in-the-wall so don't expect much beyond good food. It is very popular so there is often a few minutes wait so keep it in mind for excellent takeout if you just want a meal you call ahead for and run home with. Parking is a bit scarce in front but after 6pm you can use the lot next door.
In short when I have a Thai craving Little Bangkok always hits the spot.
Went here for dinner because of the good reviews on Yelp...
Looks like a nice little place for good Thai food at a reasonable price, especially for lunch. I wasn't impressed in particular by anything, but I did enjoy the Pad Thai moreso than other restaurants.
My friend ordered a noodle dish that the waiter recommended. It was tasty but far too greasy and oily.
We also ordered a Penang curry dish that was decent, but not half as good as it could be.
I also didn't understand the $2.95 charge just to share a dish, that's a lot!
Overall, it was nice to catch up with friends here and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable...
I'm willing to trust the other reviewers and try some more popular dishes next time, but I probably wouldn't be the one to suggest going here.
The reviews are correct in my humble opinion! Small, clean but needs an update! Service is to quick, I felt rushed and thought that they just wanted to turn the table for the next customer!
Thai Fried Rice with Egg was excellent, Pad Thai was above average and the Green Curry with Chicken was one of my favorite's! If they would only add Thai Eggplant, it would be perfect!
I get the feeling I'm being BS'd by the Servers, they initially come across as if they care but then you realize it's not genuine. Stupid me!
I wasn't particularly impressed by Little Bangkok, though I'm a strict vegetarian and I came with a group and didn't want to make a fuss asking a million questions. I got tofu in a spicy sauce. It was decent but not particularly impressive. My friends all enjoyed their food a lot, especially the Tom Kha soup.
Service is good, but the decor leaves a bit to be desired.
My friend insists this is the best Thai food he's had, and the reviews are certainly positive, so I'd give Little Bangkok a try for yourself, though I likely won't be back.
Spicy Seafood Soup, oh what a delight.
Red Curry with Beef, sizzling with spice and warmth on a creepy Halloween night.
Chicken with cashews, my boyfriend had swine flu. (He wasn't contagious at the time, I wanted something that rhymed).
Fried ice cream to top off the night.
Our experience was magnificent, this was my second visit. It reminds me of the hole in the wall Thai restaurants in Orange County, CA where I used to spend my summers in high school. The service was quick, and the place was a packed full house. The waiters/waitresses were very attentive regardless of the full house and they were even chatting it up with the customers. The prices were reasonable and so were the spices but nothing can compare to Thai of Norcross! It's a lovely place, do bring your loved ones here.
Practically dreaming of the amazing and flavorful sauce accompanying the Buddha Delight, I ordered up some more, twice since, with added tofu, and the last time was asked why I don't just order the Homestyle Bean Curd, and had to explain that I don't like that sauce. I wish they could make a white sauce tofu and veggie dish, with plenty of fresh ginger and garlic, and without me having to order something special. The last order had the sauce a bit watered down and not as flavorful. I would also wish for consistency from the kitchen - but... best sauce I've had in town.

I'm not a huge fan of Thai food, since it's in my opinion one of the inferior asian cuisines (southeast asian racism!), but I've been here twice now due to friends wanting to go.
In terms of food, it's pretty good... for Thai. To me, I can't really distinguish excellent Thai from normal Thai since it all tastes the same to me (noodles, curry, shrimp, and veggies... remix and repeat) but of all the Atlanta Thai restaurants... I guess this is one of the better tasting. I had the Pad Thai last time and it was decent. What can I say? It's not Korean food...
Anyway, the food was pleasant but that's not all there is to a restaurant. The ambiance was pretty good, it's a quaint small restaurant (capacity 50 or so and even I thought that was really pushing it) with a good sized crowd, good noise level that's not too loud, and good lighting/space. The service is quick, but it can often feel a little rushed with the dishes coming out and the check coming out as well, like they're pushing you out the door.
I'm not a big fan of the waiters though... they act friendly but to me it comes off as a bit fake. Just putting on a show to me. I will give them mad props on checking up on you often, with water or any uncleared plates, etc.
Last time I came here I unfortunately showed up with a group of 18 or so, and they just did not know how to handle it. I understand that it's a bit cumbersome to deal with a group of 18 patrons, but they showed a clear lack of experience in dealing with a busy night and a hectic billing issue. It's inconvenient to them to deal with so many people but come on, you're getting a lot of business for your restaurant and it's not uncommon for restaurants to deal with big parties like that.
They refused to split checks so we all paid via credit cards, pretty much everyone splitting equally and putting the same amounts on each credit card. Pretty simple, if you ask me. For some reason, this REALLY boggled the waiters and they could not perform the simple math (if there was any) to get us out of there. I think there was a case of ONE couple asking to put twice of the amount on one credit card, but other than that, the amounts were the same per credit card. So... i'm pretty sure this is not a difficult issue to handle, but maybe i'm just better at "math" than these guys were.
Not very authentic and so-so tasting in comparison to Thai restaurants in Los Angeles. Since it has good reviews on Yelp, my brother and I decided to give it a try. The Tom-Kha soup..what the hell!! First of all, Tom Kha is supposed to be WHITE and not orange. I didn't taste the lemongrass, lime leaf or lime at all. The soup was supposed to be sour, not too spicy and a bit salty. All we tasted was sweet and way too much coconut milk. The soup was not supposed to be thick. It tasted more like a red curry to us. The sea bass fillet with garlic, chilli and lime (pla ma-nao) was decent. Papaya salad (som-tum) was not bad and it came with sticky rice (kao-niew) and 3 very thin slices of pork jerky. I told them a few times not to put ground peanuts in, but they still put 2 spoonful on it. Chicken with basil leaves (pad-kra pow) was okay.
Anyway, service was pretty good.
I know I shouldn't compare this place to those in Hollywood, but since I've lived in Los Angeles for 7+ years and spent many years in Thailand, I know what real, authetic Thai food tastes like. It's not too bad if you like the Americanized style, but it's just not for me.
I wasn't really impressed - I agree with another reviewer on here that the food seemed to have more of Chinese flair to it than Thai. And yes, parking is quite ridiculous.
This spot is one of my favorites to grab a big bowl of Tom Ka Kai soup. It's affordable and easily shared between a group of people. Very flavorful and served in a hot pot so the soup never becomes frigid. Seriously, I come back for this dish every time!
Of course they serve plenty of other Asian dishes, all of which are wonderful. The Pad Thai can be prepared to your liking and the portions are incredible! If Thai isn't your thing, there are offerings of Chinese dishes on the menu as well, and what I've had so far is packed with flavor and seasoned just right. It's delicious! Thai iced tea is a real treat, and Little Bangkok hits the mark on this as well.
Parking can be a little difficult, but in the evenings the building next door offers up their space. Groups are no problem here - the friendly, attentive staff will gladly make enough room for your party! The space is a little small inside, but I've had a group of 10 easily fit at a large round table towards the back, and a group of 6 at the front. It can be done!
I've never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend, if for no other reason than that delicious, legendary soup. Think I'll go grab a bowl after I hit "post"...
I like Thai food for the most part, but I went back here, and the food still wasn't that amazing Thai food that have set my standards so high. The duck was good, but the food has more of a chinese flair than the standard Thai food. Plus, the parking is ridiculous. Still not really impressed.

Ordered some take out last night with two of my friends and we were all decently impressed with the place. Large portions, good flavor, and decent prices. Very quick and friendly service. I ordered the pad see you, while my friends had the drunken noodles and the pad thai. This wasn't the best Thai food I've ever had (I still think Brown Sugar Cafe in Boston is the best), but it was solid enough that I would come back here again.
I would give this place 4.5 stars, although, I will be coming back here again to try some of their other dishes, such as the duck and the basil chicken. Oh, and it also threw me off a bit that they sell Chinese food also.
Little Bangkok grew on me. It hasn't changed at all since my last review. I still don't like their Chinese menu and some of the appetizers are still bad. The delicious Thai dishes are still all simple, low-brow, and street food like...there's no sublime culinary revelation to be had. The interior is still tacky and old school.
I just can't justify giving a place 3 stars when in the end of the day I find myself eating here maybe 20 times in the last 3 years, when 9 times out of 10 I find myself preferring the comfort Thai food here over Tamarind Seed and a multitude of blown-up Thai establishments (so typical of Atlanta) serving more sophisticated (and sure, sometimes tastier) variations. There are a lot of similar and great comfort Thai food places north OTP, some can give Little Bangkok a run for its money. But for now it is my favorite comfort Thai food place in town, and it's close to my house.

i sorta lived right down the street, and little bangkok is a number one go to spot for yummy, yummy thai. they are on my speed dial, and take out is quick, hot and fast. did i mention that the food is yummy?
i've been slumming in macon recently, and spicy basil catfish from little bangkok totally made my night. almost brought tears to my eyes. delish...tons of crispy catfish, green beans, eggplant...oooh. i'm not a fan of pad thai, but we got some of that for my five year old niece who isn't quite into spicy, and it was actually quite tasty to my tummy as well.
for eat in diners, the service has always been great....but don't expect to be wowed by the decor. seriously needs an overhaul, but really...the magic they work in the kitchen overcomes the kitschy 1978 look.
and btw...little bangkok has wonderfully cheap lunch specials too!
Um, yum. Had dinner here tonight. The Tom Ka Soup is deliciousness. They even replaced it with tofu when I accidently ordered the chicken (vegetarian).
The masaman curry with tofu was a lot of food, but a little too much sauce vs tofu/veggies. Big enough for at least 2 meals, maybe 3.
This has jumped to the top of my fav local thai places for sure.
I am new to Thai food and was curious to try since this place is in my neighborhood. Parking is crap---period. Inside is pretty small and I assume it cannot have more than fifteen tables. The service is a bit weird as different people seemed to help my table and it was a bit confusing who was the water. It took about 15 minutes for our order to be taken but soups came out pretty quickly.
The wonton soup was awesome. The best I have had in the South in a long time. After only taking a few sips of the soup the main course arrives. The provided family style white rice and additional clean plates. The Basil Chicken was really good. Served with white meat without asking. While my eyes thought the portion was small my stomach was quite full by the end of the meal.
No split checks here. I will note that I had no problem paying via CC on a take out order under $10. And again, the parking is bad but I am not sure this can be blamed on the restaurant because the shopping strip does not have a large parking lot.
The food is very tasty and I also have enjoyed a meal from the Chinese side of the menu. It tasted very good and without the excess HF corn syrup. Spiced and seasoned well. Will be back!!!!
I was not the only one sitting in Little Bangkok's parking lot at 4:45, anxiously awaiting their opening at 5. Once the sign was illuminated, we made our way inside and I situated myself in a cozy booth along the wall.
I kind of wish my apartment looked like this place. Asian kitsch to the extreme, with every wall absolutely covered in gilded traditional artwork and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. If I had an Asian grandmother, I'm pretty sure her house would have looked like this place.
The tom ka soup was as good as everyone says and was unlike most tom ka's I've had before. Perfectly creamy with just the right amount of heat: yum. The pad thai was also a solid choice but I felt like the sauce was a little heavy handed, and it was served with white rice on the side, which I had never seen before.
There were a ton of regulars up in here, and I can see why. Service was very friendly and on-point... I must say I enjoyed my quick meal here very much, indeed.
My boyfriend's sister is in town, and apparently she LOVES this place! And since she seems knowledgeable as far as Thai food, she was able to recommend dishes that I'd enjoy, and guess what? I realized I LOVE Thai food!
We started off with a soup that I can't recall the name of, but I believe it was a creamy coconut/curry blend with chicken and mushrooms. It was pretty darn tasty! Afterwards, she ordered 5 entrees for the three of us to share. Wow, we had a lot of food, but it was ALL great!
We ordered the house fried rice which I loved the best. I really like the tomato added to the rice, and it had a tang from something that made me happy! I love spicy!
Basil chicken... not so much a fan, but my boyfriend inhaled it!
Something they called Pad Prik, but it seemed like it said something else on the menu... AWESOME! Chicken and green beans in a super spicy sauce, oh man! DELICIOUS! (Too bad this was probably the culprit that had me FARTING ALL NIGHT LONG!)
Pad Thai... eh, seems like I've had better elsewhere, but still pretty good.
... and they ordered Mongolian beef for me, to be on the safe side ;) Even it was the best Mongolian beef I've ever had!
And of course I had my beloved Thai teas!
So I shall definitely be back before another two years pass!

Went for dinner. Ordered:
- Thai dumplings
- Panang curry with chicken
- Pad Kee Mow with beef
- Thai iced tea
Meat was overcooked (tough/dry) for both dishes. Service was eh. Thai tea was eh. Parking was eh.
I cannot foresee a second visit...
This place is great. I've never had a bad meal or service. Was with a group of 5 on a Saturday night. Place was full, but we walked right in. The Tom Ka soup is out of this world. The basil roll could have had a little more basil, but still very tasty.
We each ordered a different entree and passed. Flavors were abound.
The only thing keeping this from a 5 star rating was the table. Right next to the kitchen/servers entrance. Someone in our group kept getting bumped into.
Two thumbs up!
This may be the best Tom Ka soup I've ever had, and I had it within 5 minutes of sitting down. Next time, I order a bowl instead, and try and make a meal out of it. The flavor and consistency are perfect, you can taste each veggie, the coconut, etc. but it also blends so well. It was also piping hot.
I also had the Bangkok chicken, which was not great, but still pretty good. The menu listed it as spicy, and it barely had any pop. I was hoping for a little more spice, a little more flavor. The veggies were perhaps a little overcooked, too, and the entire dish was only luke warm.
To drink, I had Thai iced tea, and the black tea in it dominated the rest of the flavors, so I didn't really enjoy it.
Service wise, I couldn't believe how quickly I was served. I literally walked in at 7:10pm, was eating my soup by 7:18, had my main dish by about 7:25, and was done before 7:45. They weren't rushing me, they were just fast themselves. The place was clean, decorated like any other chinese/thai restaurant, and the people were courteous. I even overheard a neighboring table commenting how the waitress remembered them from a couple weeks ago, and asked if they'd like the same dish. Impressive.
Over all, a good meal, well worth going if for only the Tom Ka soup. I will return, though I will try a different dish.
Ok ok ok I see what all the hype is about. I'm not sure if it is the cheerful staff or the food but I am defiantly a fan of Little Bangkok. I first went last Thursday night. After looking at the menu for a bit I ordered the Pad Thai noddles. After my 20 minute drive home I realized I had done the food a great injustice by letting it get cold. Even still it was really good but I could tell it had lost some of its essence :-D!
Determined to enjoy yelp's hot spot I went back today for lunch. I must say I am in love. Every thing on the lunch menu is under 7 bucks which means I can go back pretty often. They make the best hot and sour soup I have ever had in my life! I ordered Mongolian chicken which was BOMB. Everything was just perfect if you have not been yet GO plain and simple!!!
Enjoy and Indulge
I went here the other night for dinner with my mom and brother, and we enjoyed it. Food was a solid and satisfying (but not unforgettable) 3.5, and service was a 5, so the review is rounded off at a 4. Everything has pretty much been said, so I'll comment on the dishes ordered:
Tom Yum Soup - tasty lemongrass broth served piping hot, and only $3.25.
Tom Ka Soup - also just $3.25, good, but very, very creamy (creamier than other Tom Kas I've tasted).
Squid Salad- very filling and a surprisingly large portion. My only complaint is the lettuce was iceberg and in large, hard-to-eat leafs at the bottom of the bowl.
Shrimp Basil Rolls - these were not the best I've had, but they were definitely enjoyable and an incredible value... 7 small rolls for under $4!
Masaman Chicken - very creamy curry sauce, large portion. My Mom couldn't finish it, but she said she liked it.
Pad-See-Something with Shrimp (not Pad See Ew, the other one...) - This dish is almost all vegetables, and I didn't see any noodles. My brother hates veggies, but he still said this was really good, though too big to finish in one sitting.
It was crowded for a Monday night but the service is inconceivably fast. The staff is incredibly polite, professional, and well-versed on the menu. If anything, they are overstaffed, but I can't complain! The price is unbeatable. I do wish they had a few more sophisticated seafood main dishes on the menu (I only saw shrimp entrees, and I'd love some mussels, scallops, squid etc.).
As another reviewer noted, if you want quality Thai, go elsewhere. If you want fast, cheap, good Thai food, this is a great option. The portions are ginormous, and I won't even order half of what I ordered last time.
Ambiance is kitsch and quite interesting (my brother was fixated on the brightly lit aquariums behind our table). The ambiance is nothing special, but I come for the food and the value. I'll be back.
You'd never expect this place to have such amazing food. If you like Thai food, especially Tom Ka soup, this will become one of your favorite spots to go. I usually skip the bowl and hog an entire hot pot to myself.
Now, I'm not much for words here because usually my mouth is full of food, so I'd definitely suggest trying it if you haven't. My only advice is to not go around prime time dining as this place is not the best kept secret :) Service is great, but waiting to be seated with aromas of amazing food wafting by, unable to eat, is not exactly the most pleasant experience.
I finally ate in the restaurant instead of getting take-out and we were lucky enough to get one of the coveted parking spots right in front of the entrance.
The restaurant is nice enough and was filled with a bunch of other non-asian people. I think Little Bangkok is an exception to the general phenomenon that "ethnic" restaurants tend to be better if most or all of the customers are of that ethnicity. Or maybe I just think that because I'm not Thai or Chinese...
Anyway, I opted for Thai dishes (Nau Num Tok, Cashew Chicken) and my dining partner in crime opted for Chinese dishes (Sizzling Rice Soup, Mongolian Beef). The nau num tok was pretty decent, but not as good as usual - I think it was a little over-seasoned actually. I tried the soup which was decent, but definitely not the best SRS I've had. I also tried the mongolian beef which was a little crispier than usual (which I kind of liked), but it didn't have much depth of flavor and was a little too sweet I thought.
I ordered my cashew chicken as spicy as they could do it and was informed that it would make me cry. When they brought it you could just tell by looking at it that it was going to be very spicy. I was pretty amused that they brought a bowl of diced chilis and a bowl of chili paste "just in case" it wasn't hot enough. Anyway, the dish wasn't hot enough to make me cry but it was really spicy and good. I didn't need the spicy condiments. After we had finished our meal and were eating our tasty and complimentary orange slices, the server kinda sarcastically asked if I would still need the chilis and chili paste. Cheeky bastard. :)
Anyway, it was still good - the 2 Chinese dishes weren't particularly amazing and the nau num tok was a little under-par but it was still good all around. Apparently a couple that had just eaten thought it was phenomenal as they were standing outside their car licking each other's tongues. That's a first for me. I managed to keep my food down.

My friend suggested this place, so we went there for lunch. The lunch menu is priced $5.95 - $6.95. You can order from the Thai food menu or Chinese food. Comes with hot and sour soup, which tasted better than most I have had before, and comes with white rice, fortune cookies, and oranges after your meal. Great service, food came out quickly. Quality of food was very good. Ingredients seem very fresh. Food tasted great.
The only bad thing is the parking and location. Otherwise, I would definitely eat here again.
Note: They have a $12 minimum if you pay with credit card.
I'm fairly picky when it comes to Thai. There are so many Thai places in Atlanta that are way overpriced and bland. However, Little Bangkok had me pleasantly surprised. The food was reasonably priced with good portions. One dish could easily fill two tummies.
We ordered the green curry with chicken and pad see u with beef. I also had a bite of my friends' spicy tofu and spicy pork. All of the dishes were very flavorful, almost on the borderline of being salty but still very good. The green curry and pad see u were delicious, and still good as leftovers. The spicy dishes were SPICY, yet very tasty. It's one of those spicy's that hit you about 10 seconds after you put the food in your mouth. You take a bite of tofu, chew for a second, think, "Mmm... this is good," then BAM you're guzzling down all the water on the table. Warning: you may feel the after effects later that evening or the next day.
If you're looking for a cheap, extremely casual, Thai eat in the city then Little Bangkok is the way to go. Most typical dishes are under $10.
I really liked this place. The place was packed but we were seated quickly. The prices were low, as virtually all entrees were 9.95, including shrimp, appetizers also were low as I recall. The portions were large. I had a Thai garlic shrimp or similar sounding dish. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and there were many of them. Tom Yum soup was good. Food was hot. Everything was good and flavorful.
I'm giving them 5 stars based on this visit as it seemed very well run and I had no complaints.
I've been here before but it was a while back and I believe preeetty late at night. So a lunch review is more appropriate.
Everything was pretty good. Not really a 'wow' but decent and flavorful. A few 'beginner Thai' dishes where ordered: Panang, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew.
Decent portions, sauces were pretty flavorful but with mild spice. I'd like it much spicier.
Me: "Can you make this extra hot for me?"
Waitress: "Oh, so you want it medium?"
Me: "Is medium considered extra hot here?"
Waitress: "OK, medium"
Me: "No...I'd like this extra hot please (as I rubbed my stomach)"
Waitress: "Medium" (walks away)
Hmmm....I didn't really get that exchange. She did send out a side of hot sauce to mix in. Eh? I guess that means "no extra hot for you!" Or for Gastro: "Coke! No Pepsi!"
Oh...and the parking lot is good for about 8 Mini Coopers, so good luck with that!
There's not much to say about Little Bangkok that others haven't said already, but I've got to throw my two cents in. No, not because I feel especially passionate about it (though I do love coming here), but because after looking over my reviews, I noticed an abundance of Mexican and Italian restaurants. That's funny because those are my two least favorite foods. Yeah, yeah, blasphemer. Sorry. I think I've been to so many Mexican places because I'm always searching for something I'll love. That and it's the fiance's favorite. (Yes, married men, I've learned quickly.)
Back to Little Bangkok, thai food is one of my favorite cuisines. I know, here in the aughts, that Thai is played out. So sue me. Wait, that's one of my favorite Chinese dishes. Anyway, when I first had Thai those many years ago, it was love at first bite. Spicy, Asian food...whoa. I love Thai food so much that Tom Kha is one of my favorite dishes in the world....and I hate raw coconut with a fervor reserved for Nazis and boy bands. And Little Bangkok, my friends, has one of my favorite tom kha soups. I'm also addicted to the larb which I order, not just because it tastes good, but because I like to say the word "Larb." Larb. Larb. It's a fun word to say. Try it.
OK, parking here sucks. Park next door at that brick building that I think are law offices. (As long as it's after hours, though.) Waiting here also sucks as there is NO waiting area. Be prepared to stand on the doorstep or the sidewalk, two things that I tend not to recommend when on Cheshire Bridge. (Unless you want to make some extra money on the side, if you know what I mean.)
Little Bangkok is worth the wait. Make sure to order the specials though. The standard curries and basil beef plates are good, but nothing to write home (or write yelp reviews) about. If you just stick to these plates, then you'll wonder what the fuss is. But if you order one of the ubiquitous daily specials then you'll understand. Ah-HA! The thai'd has turned and now you understand! Even though I've been stingy with my five stars lately, when you take into account the value, the pleasant service I've always got, my favorite soup in the world, and the Filipino peso that's smack dab in the middle of their world currency decor near their cash register, Little Bangkok earns five. Awesome. And with that, I leave you with one last thing before I go:
Larb.
How did Little Bangkok fall off our radar for over five years? That wasn't fair of us! It's literally the "hole in the wall" Cheshire Bridge neighborhood restaurant with a quirky elbow-to-elbow charm and terrific food.
At dinnertime, you can park at the office building next door. After a 15-minute wait outside, we were finally seated. We ordered a firepot of Tom Yum (i.e., peppery seafood and chicken) soup. The sterno-fueled firepot was unwieldy but kept our broth perfectly warm. I loved my spicy shrimp dish; Ms. D also made a great choice with a cashew broccoli number. The spiciness never overwhelmed the other flavors. We both ordered Thai rice dishes, but they also serve Chinese. When received our check 45 minutes later, there were people still waiting for tables so we were sure not to "hog" ours.
Little Bangkok has a good casual "date" ambience; you can learn a lot about your company from how he or she reacts to being there.
Ok, sure it's on the looovely, crack whore walking, wine-o trotting Cheshire Bridge Rd. but dammit Little Bangkok is the best cheap Thai place in the ATL.
A great wait staff and the best masaman chicken out there. Parking kind of sucks and make sure to open the door sloooowly(it opens in instead of out, so anything faster than .5 mph you'll break whoever's arm is standing next to the door inside.)
Oh, good Satay too.
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, and this is my favorite Thai place (and I'm a three-city girl right now, so I've been to a bunch.) The service is friendly and *very* speedy, and the food is to die for and worth way more than they charge.
In my first review, I would like to make a confession: I am one cheap biyatch. I mean it; sometimes it scares me how much I hate to spend money. Blame it on nature or nurture, but you will hear from me repeatedly how much I love a good deal. And I often feel when I leave this place that I've somehow just ripped them off.
My boyfriend and I can finish a hot pot of Tom Ka soup between the two of us plus our entrees, and it's the best I've ever had. I crave it. Constantly. I've also tried both their Chinese and Thai food and I have not been disappointed with anything.
You've GOT to try: Fancy fried rice, Mandarin chicken, Lard Nar, Pad Thai, Tom Ka, Nam Sod, cheese rolls... I need to stop this now; I'm getting hungry.
Little Bangkok is sneaky. If you're driving down Cheshire Bridge you'll probably look right past it. You would never suspect that this strip-mall restaurant with such cheesy decor would be so wonderful.
Tip: They have a plethora of lunch combo specials. It's a huge amount of food for under $6.
Also, the parking lot is indeed tiny and hard to back out of. Do not let this stop you. It's worth it.
I yelped my way into this place, I have lived around the corner for 9 years and I can't believe I have waited so long to try it.
If I had to describe the food in one word, it woud be 'Savory'. The coconut chicken soup is unbelievably rich and full of shrooms and chicken. The Nam Tak is tender cooked to perfection and just the right amount of spice.
I had the Basil Chicken which is my basic benchmark on how the cooks is, and was light colorful and perfectly spiced.
I'll definitely be a regular here - great Thai with most entrees under $10
