Guys, trying to find that spot where all the girls are at?  Apparently this is the place to be.  Too much pussy and dicks acting like pussy here, but what do you except, right?

Lips has way more character and flare than the folks at ASIA SF.  They be dropping the B bomb like woah and I never got so much pleasure out of it in my life hah.  I guess it's because they just say it with such class :P

I just went for drinks, and they were fine with it.  There's a cover, I think it was 5 bucks.  Something nice to throw into the mix every once in a while.

WOW! I had so much fun! If it is your birthday or celebrating a Bachelorette Party (we were) you get extra attention! The minute we walked in we were laughing and having so much fun. We had reservations and since it was our first time we didnt know we all had to check in! But no worries, the hold time we were in the upstairs waiting area, theres a bar and we got to take some pictures and surprise our friend.

When we got seated we had great service our waitress was SUPER! The best of the DIvas! The Menu is fun, it does not tell you what comes in the drinks, but they are good! Appetizers were delicious (surprisingly the calamari was best I had, coconut shrimp were yummmy), we should of just stuck to them, cause dinner was BLAH!

The entertainment was to die for! We could not stop laughing! We are definitely coming back, I was told they had a Sunday brunch....all you can drink Mimosas..........I will be there! Oh and Bitchy Bingo on Wednesday nights! Yes they do use the B word a lot! But who cares! Its part of the whole idea.......

Well this was a very interesting place to have dinner.

The pros.
Awesome shows and entertainment.
Great place to go once.

The cons.
They push you toward buying water at $1 a bottle rather than providing table water that is drinkable.  They charge a cover to walk into the place and eat dinner.  They have a per person min at the table that you must spend and drinks are not included.  The drinks also were not very good.

Basically as a customer I felt that the focus was on my wallet and not on my experience.  We had two people at our table that came for the show and drinks and it turned into an issue when we were ordering because they need so spend a certain amount.

Typically when I go out with a large group money isn't an issue.  With this place they made it an issue.  If they feel that they need to put charges in place and demands on the min they need you to spend when you are there then they should charge 40 bucks a show and let you order or not.

I've been here twice now- once with my mom and the other time was a girl's night out- both times were hilariously awesome.

This is a GREAT way to spend the night getting some (surprisingly) great food and great entertainment. I've only been on bitchy bingo nights, but I'm sure that the other theme nights are just as fun.

The men really go all out with their costumes and peformances and the emcees are hysterical!! Be warned- if you're a guy or there for a bachelorette party or even your b-day- YOU WILL GET PICKED ON. So suck it up and try to have fun when they embarass the hell out of you.

It is fairly tiny inside so be sure to make reservations so you can get a better seat and guaranteed entry.

The drinks are pretty awesome as well. They even have my favorite hard to find shot- chocoate cake.

It can get pricey between the food, the drinks, and the putting money down their pants so bring a full wallet.

Went this weekend and I am still singing the songs. I say everyone should see this at least once. We were laughing the entire time.

The food might just be okay but the entertainment is "FAB"...So with that being said, don't we all need a good laugh!

......Take a few sips
     Swivel your hips
     Take a few trips
To that place they call LIPS.

Never been here for a Dinner show, but in the late 90's this is where you came for good house music. Don't let the whole drag thing fool you fellas the place gets packed with honey baby's..

It seems they moved locations. May the Hillcrest location rest in peace

I went here for a coworker's birthday party and the women I went with all had a blast.  Most got pretty shit faced which is always a joy to see.  Although I must admit I had more fun than I anticipated with the floor show, the food here was absolute shit.  For a place that prides itself on good food on their website, I was sorely disappointed with the dried out piece of stuffed chicken I received.  But oh well, I must admit that watching the trannies perform was fun and laced with some pretty hilarious comedy at times.  There really were a good amount of drunk attractive women here also, at least I hope they were women.  Seriously though, for a bachelorette's party or women's birthday this place is perfect for a bunch of chicks to get drunk and obnoxious.  I couldn't see myself ever going here by my own volition, but with a group I would come here again.  I think next time I'll just stick with some fried chicken fingers and French fries though, as I wasn't alone in my disappointment over the terrible and extremely overpriced food.

This place is comedy. I have not been to their new location. I went to their old spot in Hillcrest. The food was very boring and it was a strange place to find myself at. I was brought here by the wifey and a group of her friends who were all excited and had been before. So I went and I thought it was really funny. It was weird though and I thought that it was a riot of a time. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone, but the best  way to get them to go is not to tell them what its about. Keep it a secret and it will be 10x better I swear:)

The entertainement i must admit is classic. I love how guys get so scared to be serenaded by the performers here. LOL. Sucks to be you! The more you drink, the funnier it gets!

The huge downfall is the nasty food. Man, it is gross, and expensive too. A group of 10 of us went to dinner here for my friends b-day, and the bill was almost $500. On top of that, if someone does not show up in the party you made a reservation for they charge you. So expect to find a nice surprise on your tab.

This is an awesome place for any special occassion.  Bachelor party, bachelorette party, b-days or even just brunch.  Remember to make a reservation.

The entertainment is f-ing awesome!  The MC is funny, the lipsinking is to perfection and some of those men dressed in drag.....look like women!  I swear I saw one rip off her dress and all she/he was wearing was a bikini and I did NOT know where he tucked it away.

Those she/he's are hard working and look better dressed to the nines than I do some nights.  Take a good looking guy with you and you are guaranteed special attention for your table.  This place is for those with humor and can handle sensory overload for a few hours.

How was the food you ask?  Surprisingly ok!  I had a cajun bowtie pasta dish years ago (when they were at the old location) and I went recently for brunch.  Decent food!  Yummy muffins and bottomless mimosas/bloody mary's.

If you have never been here you gotta try it at least once!

Go hungry! I wish somebody would have told me that you have to order at least $15 worth of food before I came, because I would have showed up hungry. That being said, I ordered food because I had to, but it made up for the fact that there was no cover charge.. and the food was good! Of course it wasn't fantastic, nobody is there for the food, but it's actually pretty good. I was there with a pretty big party and nobody was disappointed with their food.

I really liked the servers, but I'm just a touch on the conservative side, and they really wear out the words "p-ssy" and "b-tch" and "big d-ick" and "small d-ck" and other descriptions of the word.... Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, or inappropriate for the setting, just a warning to anyone who hasn't been. I didn't care for it, and a lot of the singing wasn't that great, but it's not intended to be great it's intended to be entertaining... and it was. A pretty good alternative to going to The Rocky Horror Show. I was there for a birthday party, but almost everyone else int he restaurant was there for bachelorette parties, and that is pretty appropriate. It is raunchy!

Pros:
- LIPS is a fun place for birthdays or bachelorette parties. Great for groups to unwind, have drinks and be loud!
- I loved the Hawaiian Honey cocktail. Sweet and doesn't have a strong alcoholic taste.
- The drag queens are entertaining and "accomodating."

Cons:
- Food is not worth the price. Unfortunately, a minimum of $15 for food per person is required if making group reservations. Drinks aren't included. Another $5 show fee is required. So, if a person you're reserving for flakes out, you're gonna have to pay his/her $20.
- Parking sucks!
- This place may not be good for people sensitive to hearing the B-bomb in every sentence. I know people like that.

For the males planning to visit LIPS, be prepared for some close contact with the drag queens! ;)

The food is really not that great.

However the show, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere are awesome.

Great for groups. The frozen cosmo drink is my favorite.

A bit on the pricey side, when you add-up meals, drinks, tax, tip, etc., you can easily find yourself paying $35 per person. (If you want to save a few dollars, you might inquire about going for drinks & show only.)

Dishes: Chicken Cordon-Oooh and Lasagna are not very good.

Bad! Bad Bad! I have tried to give this place a couple of chances and I have been even more disappointed now that they have moved to El Cajon Blvd. The space is tiny and you are seated in long rows of tables. The Food is Horrible, the drinks are tiny and it is not cheap. Last time we went for a friends birthday a couple of us did not get our food until 20 minutes after everyone else did. They also advertise as a drag show and they are no longer a drag show. It is a tranny show!! Big difference. The entertainment was all right, but not anything to be wowed about. Drag shows at the clubs are a lot better than this one.  As a whole just disappointing.

You don't go for the food, you go for the entertainment, which is hilarious and super fun.  They have a food and drink minimum, or at least they did last time I went.

Make sure you make a reservation.

The food here isn't great, I have given it a couple shots and it just wasn't very good. Good entertainment though. The bachelorettes can get a bit annoying but other than that it's a fun place to go see the pretty drag queens do their thing.

So last weekend, during the heat wave that engulfed SoCal, my bf decides that we should try out Lips for brunch. Lips for brunch? He took me to  their old location last year after dinner, so I was under the impression it was only open for dinner. So I checked Yelp and sure enough, other Yelpers mentioned Sunday brunch, so I said why not?

We called around 10 AM to confirm that they would be open and the person that answered our call said they were. They didn't mention they would not open their doors until 11 AM though. The drag queens need their beauty rest after partying on Friday nights.

We arrived around 10:40 AM and there was a small crowd already waiting in the parking lot at their new location in El Cajon Blvd. I noticed some of them were carrying colorful Asian parasols. I was going to ask them were they got the umbrellas, but one of the hostesses stepped outside with more umbrellas for the growing crowd. I chuckled a little bit because almost everyone was a bit picky on what color of umbrella they wanted. I chose one that matched my blue shirt. The umbrellas provided some relief from the humid heat, but my bf and I still retreated towards the shaded area in the sidewalk.

The doors opened about 5 minutes early. The hostess was well aware of the steamy weather and the crowd waiting outside was getting larger. They let us in at at small groups at a time. I noticed that most of the guest had RSVP'd in advance but a table for 2 wasn't to difficult to get that particular morning. It was assigned seating though, so you can't pick your own table, they pick it for you. We ended up getting a table right in front of the stage. Most of the tables were filled, so if you plan to visit, make sure to RSVP.

If you love getting rid of Saturday night hangovers with even more booze on a Sunday morning, this is the place to go. Its basically unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary's while you wait to get seated and throughout the show. So the theme of their Sunday brunch is Sunday Gospel, so expect a very naughty version of mass. This is not a place for die hard religious conservative people. Expect the nuns, the priests and the gospel choir to do things you have never experienced before on a typical Sunday mass service.

Their version of mass is drag queens lip synching and dancing to mostly gospel related or themed songs.  The food was a little overpriced, but where they get your cash is through the tips and when they sell the specials like the memorabilia, dessert and special drinks. They didn't make too much money from our table since neither my bf and I are heavy drinkers, but we were generous with the tips.

There were a lot of birthday celebrations that morning, which is the typical crowd for Lips, and some of the birthday revelers got really drunk. Everyone was well behaved for the most part. If you get mean and angry when you get drunk, do not visit Lips. The performers also are adept at anticipating how long they can playfully tease a patron without getting them upset.  The language is a bit bawdy - I lost track of how many times the word bitch was uttered.

If the Sunday Morning Brunch is for birthday people and the early risers, then the evening dinner crowd are for the bachelorette party crowds and night owls. So it tends to get wilder and if you're lucky, they'll get a hot guy from the audience and tie him up and cover him in whip cream. That's what happened the night I visited last year and I was upset that I forgot to bring my camera to memorialize it.

If you've only visited the old location on Banker's Hill, and been wanting to visit again, you are in for a treat. The new location in El Cajon is a larger venue and the decorations and ambiance is a lot better. The old place was a little on the seedy side, but this place was fun and colorful - almost Moulin Rouge-like in decor. I'd give this place five stars if their food was better, but you really don't come to a place like this for the food. You come her for the booze and the drag queen performers. Parking is easy - they have their own lot and if that fills up, there is street parking available.

I don't think I could ever take my mom to this place for brunch, but I can think of a few friends and relatives that would enjoy Lips.

Where should I start?! Drag queens, drag queens and more drag queens! This place is a hoot! I love it! I have been to the old location once for a bachelorette party, which was a blast and once to the new location just recently. It was a friend's birthday and a bunch of us went to celebrate over Gospel Brunch.

It's all that I expected and more! Lotsa hair, sequins, makeup and sassy attitudes! Look out ladies because these divas will overshadow you and men...cover your package and get ready to be a spectacle! Don't think you are gonna sit there and not be noticed!

Warning..do not move your glass closer for the server to fill! I nearly got my throat ripped out because "she works the table, the table does not work her"! Also, don't sit down at a table until they call your party and seat you! If the bartender says to "invade the dining area", he does not mean sit down! Don't be mistaken, they will yell at you and then you just feel like an ass. A little direction for the customers would be nice, especially for the first timers! The shows are fantastic and you will be laughing the entire time Tootie is the emcee for the day! She is hilarious and also is an awesome performer! Her Cher acts are awesome and Cashmere, Gigi and Kiki are very talented as well!

So, on the review for the food. This is what makes it tough. When you are paying 16.50 for food (although unlimited drinks and the show are included) it should at least be good. It isn't good. I understand that the food is not what we pay for, but when you roll outta bed and wait for the show to start, while downing mimosa after mimosa, it should at least be good enough to eat. The shows are great but long and on an empty stomach and maybe recovering from a night of drinking I would hope to get something half way decent. I got the veggie sandwich and fries (only veggie item besides eggs on the menu). The sandwich could have been good had the eggplant not been so tough and the bread used to house the salad weren't so thin it was wet by the time you picked it up. The fries seemed over-cooked or like they had been cooked earlier that day. I ate them anyway because I was starving and felt I had to get my money's worth as much as I could. Unfortunately, many of the 20 people at the table had complaints too. Some people said their food was cold and eggs benedict would be disgusting cold. Other people didn't even get food until they asked for it again.

They are very smart to up sell all of the desserts, specialty drinks and merchandise but it takes up so much time. It makes you get a little antsy in your seat but overall, it is a fun little extra and the "girls" have fun too.

I would be willing to ad more stars if the food would improve and the menu had more than just meat and egg dishes. It's not all about me, but throw in some french toast or something and diversify a little. All in all, the main purpose of Lips is to see entertaining drag shows and they have that down! They do different shows on different nights. We missed "Celebrity Rehab" that night. Sounded good and you could catch a glimpse of Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse!

Great atmosphere for a party/group.  Make sure that you are ready for some lap dancing, face-to-crotch action and quick witted "ladies" if you sit up front.  Even the homophobic folks can finally let go in this atmosphere where the queens rule and you may be fondled in the process while ordering.  Honestly, the atmosphere was so great- I don't even remember any of my food experiences (even after going several times).  One would think that the lack of options for a good night out would make Lips not fair out... but that isn't true.  Lips is a place that one simply must go to at least once in their lifetime.

Make sure to stick to your reservation (and you simply MUST get a reservation).  You need to buy a real dinner or you need to pay what you would have paid for a meal.  For every seat that is empty from your party (what you reserved for) you must pay for that "meal"- so if people drop out on you when you reserve... they deserve a nasty note about it.

This place is so much fun. Initially, I went for a bachelorette party. Then I went for my bachelorette party. Then for a friends 30th birthday.  Sunday brunch is really great and worth the price.

-free flowing mimosas
-great entertainment
-wonderful music

Make sure when you go to take a fist full of ones otherwise you will regret it. It also is really hot in here. Go wearing close to nothing and you will be much happier. And do check out the bodies on these ladies-gentlemen. I left and went to the gym.

Definitely an experience everyone should embark upon once in their lives! These "ladies" put on a great show.  And if it's your birthday, they call you up to the stage, crown you, and you get a picture with all the queenies.

The food is just okay, although I haven't been back in over a year so I'm unaware of any changes have been made to the menu quality-wise. People seem to definitely go for the show and booze, the food is an afterthought.

I will leave you with a word of caution: If you're going with a huge group of people, as we did, keep tabs on what everyone orders if everyone's paying separately!!  The last time we went to celebrate a friend's birthday, our group was about 15 people who actually ate, and about 5 or so that came for the show portion then took off.  Not all of us were close since some folks were friends from other circles.  At the end, our bill came close to $700!  They charge an Entertainment Fee, so even the people that came to watch then took off were accounted for.  Not to mention everyone buying shots and drinks like crazy and not 'fessing up to it at the end - or worse, had already taken off without paying.  The  six of us left had to stubbornly pay for the $300 unaccounted for by his flaky other friends that left their "portion" then made a beeline for the exit.  So that put a damper on a night what was, for the most part, a blast.

The show is always fab!  The boys look pretty and work hard, I also like the crowd mix: gays, transgender, lots of straight folks, too! Just good fun, decent drinks.  As far as food goes, just go for the straightforward burger and you will be OK.  The salads are bit pricey.

Lips is mainly fun for its unexpected scene as you step inside.  From the outside, you could never guess that this barely discernible spot is a blast to experience with a bunch of friends.  The entertainment is the only reason why I attend.  The food is mediocre, and the drinks are average, but the show is hilarious and hyphenated with marginal overtones.  Fun and untamed are the two adjective musts for this place.

I went here on a Friday night for a bachelorette party and we had a blast!  I am giving this 4 stars due to the entertainment.  The queens of the show did an awesome job singing, performing, shaking their groove thang and yelling obscenities to people in the crowd. Loved it!  Beware that they pick on gentleman!  So bring all your male friends for a pleasant surprise. ;)  We ordered a bunch of drinks, and they were on the weaker side, as I didn't get buzzed at all.  The food was just okay.  As others have said, plan to spend a bit more $$$ here as it isn't cheap.  But for the fun and unique experience, it is definitely worth it.

Come here for the entertainment! The dinner shows are fun and the ladies who serve are sweet and have lots of character. Food is mediocre, but the drinks are pretty good. Bring some guys, sit near the stage and watch them get pounced on, it's great.

And OMG the prettiest server boys I've ever seen. I'm sorry, am I staring? I can't help it, you're so pretty.

The only thing we didn't like was that there was a food ordering minimum. If you get a cheaper entree you'll have to get an appetizer to make up for it.

Absolutely fantastic!

As you approach this hidden San Diego treasure, a bright neon sign welcomes you into something you could never be prepared for.  Upon entry, a collection of famous visitors and veteran workers faces decorate the hallway and immediately the show begins.

Each waitress has her own 'persona' so to speak and keeps up her character the entire time.  At a certain point in the night a show ensues complete with lip syncing and gyrations to popular tunes.  Each night has a certain theme to it, and hopefully you are lucky enough to go when they are in effect, yet you can even hold a semi private party if you are bold enough to assume the conditions of possible participation.

overall this restaurant is wonderful, yet the reason i give it four stars is its low quality food, but either way the price and embarrassment is worth it all to see this.

Ditto with all that is said.  It has been about three years since I went for a co-bachelor(ette) party...yes, weird I know...and the show was awesome.  Staff is great all around, you definitely get your money's worth with the entertainment.  I do not remember the food being particularly bad or good, but I was not going there for that.  It was fine, not BAD.  A definite must-do with a mixed group of 6 or so.

i celebrated a birthday here a few years ago, and it was deeelicious, deeelovely, deeevine, and deeegroovy. i was wearing a striped shirt, and they called me "where's waldo." the ladies took a picture with me and wrote "happy birthday, hoochie!" on it. they made me feel both special AND special ed. two of my favorite ways to feel. anyway, it's just fun, fun, fun here. if you are planning a soiree, though, do make reservations.

Full disclosure: I worked at this joint for about six months. So far, most of the reviews are pretty right on. Let's sum it up:

1. The drag queens are absolutely fabulous. Tootie is the queen of all the drag queens, she's quick-witted and hilarious, but she's comes with a warning: DO NOT WALK ON STAGE while she's doin' her thing. She will bitch slap you back to your seat.

2. The food isn't the best food in the world; however, there are a few selections that are pretty good.  The dishes go by drag queen names on the menu, which I was never able to memorize. If you eat meat, order the Rupaul (I think it's a chicken breast). If you don't', order the Lip's salad. It comes with oranges and dried cranberries. Yum.

3. Make reservations. Oddly enough, this has become THE place to hold bachlorette parties. Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday brunches are usually jammed packed with huge groups of girls armed with penis-shaped items (i.e. veils covered in penises, straws shaped like penises, I'm sure you can imagine all the possibilities).

4. Gospel Brunch (Sunday) and Bitchy Bingo (Wednesday) are the best nights to go. Gospel Brunch is all you can drink and Bitchy Bingo is hosted by Kiki--she's one of my favorite queens mainly because she's feisty and fun.

This place, if this is the right place, is hilarious. Cross-dressers serve and entertain at this place. A little bit of a hole in the wall and I didn't really like the food that much, but hey it's the price you pay for a good dinner show. It gets pretty busy, so make reservations ahead of time.

The Sunday Gospel Brunch is a lot of fun. How can you go wrong with unlimited bloody marys served out of watering cans?

I went to lips for a friends birthday recently. i went to the el cajon location. i was really great. this place is all about entertainment. the girls here let it all hang out. literally. its for te open minded crowd. its a place filled with lots of people out to have fun in a party group. the show was just like you think it would be. drag queens being there over dramatic persona. i loved it. its where everone knows your name as "bitch."

the only thing is that you have to pay a whole lota cash.

fabulous, bitches!
i would pay all the money in the world to hear a drag queen tell a group of bachelorettes "now, on your knees, bitches!" as they go down for their blowjob [shot]... which is exactly the type of entertaining evening you can expect to have.
from the outside, it is a place you would even consider going into, especially now that it has moved to el cajon blvd. in north park.  but inside, it is all the fun you could never imagine having and so much more.  straight guys, beware!  haha.  as they warned the straight men in the begining of the show, "the best thing you can do is act gay tonight".
go check it out and prepare to scream and laugh your ass off.  everyone is there, even a 70 year old woman for her birthday party!
the place is packed, so make a reservation ahead of time and bring a bunch of friends.  it's a perfect place to have a chick birthday party [but feel free to bring guy friends too] or bachelorette parties and other forms of debauchery.
the martinis are really small for the price [~8.50], but whatever martini it is that has espresso in it is scrumptious.  the food would be good if it were a couple bucks cheaper, but that's not what you're paying for.  ;-)
