Lindy is an incredible voice teacher. Her techniques are new and fresh. She will take you to your next level. She really cares about her students success and is very confident in what she does.
I truly enjoy working with her and learning more about the music industry.
I would highly recommend her for voice lessons. -

Lindy Lafontaine is the real deal.
It is rare to find such a talented artist, in any field, with such a passion for teaching. Lindy truly cares about the development of growing musicians -- it is how she ensures good music for the world!
She has been wonderful with me. Despite my anxieties, she found the musician within me, and taught her that she could sing! She is deeply honest, passionate, and committed. She has made it totally clear that, as long as I'm in this, she will be.
That doesn't mean that she's easy! She has a preternatural ability to uncover the root causes of how I can fail to approach a phrase or exercise correctly. She demands focus, practice, diligence. And you must be able to tolerate constructive criticism, because she will not baby you.
But I can work with this; it is amazing to work and learn from someone so skilled. And so quickly!
These days, I'll sometimes just catch myself singing. I sing at my keyboard, I sing with my guitar, I sing in crowds, or all alone. I could never do that before. And I like the way I sound.
We're even recording a demo together.
Lindy has given me the gift of song, and I am ever thankful. -

I began working with Lindy almost two months ago. My goal before meeting her was simply to have the experience of vocal lessons, since I have always loved to sing, but never had the confidence to do so in public. After a few weekly lessons, Lindy convinced me that I will perform on a stage some day.
Developing vocal abilities and my ear has been much more difficult than I ever imagined, yet also one of most fun and exhilarating experiences of my life. Lindy is systematic in a very clever way. She has a way of teaching you things without you being aware that she is doing so. In addition to becoming a better singer, I am learning how to play piano, something else I always wanted to learn. Each lesson has left me with a deeper understanding of music, and I am listening in a whole new way.
I feel so grateful for finding Lindy, and I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to develop their vocal abilities to a higher standard. -

I know a thing or two about voice teachers, having burned and churned my way through a dozen of them in my frustrating journey to develop as an amateur singer/songwriter, and I can unequivocally say that Lindy is the first teacher I've had who has:
-- Instilled in me the confidence that my quest to be a vocalist isn't futile
-- Made me want to work hard during and between lessons
-- Become as much of a friend as she has a teacher
More importantly, perhaps, I've made real progress in the four months that I've been working with her, and am looking forward to seeing where continued progress will take me...
That said, Lindy's approach is unconventional, and she may not ultimately be the right teacher for everyone. Regardless, if you're serious about developing your voice, I think you would do well to book a lesson with her and find out for yourself whether or not she's a good fit for you (and I suspect she would be the first person to tell you if she weren't).
Specialties
NEW:
I host an open mic every few months for my students at Somar Bar in downtown Oakland. This is a great opportunity to practice performing in a real venue with a group of people who are very supportive. The open mic is LOTS of fun and I take lots of pictures :)

Meet the Business Owner: Lindy L.
A lustrous sheen of shimmering electronic orchestration frames the evocative voice of singer/songwriter Lindy LaFontaine. Segueing effortlessly from an intimate lower timbre into a soaring arc, it is a voice of rare power: It is the sound of her soul.
On her debut solo EP, Lindy worked with a cast of world-class musicians including pianist Patrick Warren (Fiona Apple).
LaFontaine prefers to work at night without a set clock, a consequence, she says, of having grown up in extraordinary locales from Bangladesh to DC; Egypt to CA. At 17, Lindy was the second American to be invited to study at Sir Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) in the UK. Soon after, she toured Spain as a backup vocalist with Chanteuse Maria Jose Hernandez.
Lindy's new single, "Low" is the 2011 winner for the Independent Music Awards in the "Best Cover" category and is now available to purchase on iTunes!
