Great old school steakhouse. I have been going there since I was a little kid and still gets me every time! However like some other reviews have said, if you are not in the mood for steak then you might seek elsewhere. They have steak, steak, and even more steak. However they do have shrimp as a meal that I have heard is quite delicious. But for me, get the Lindy's special sirloin and forgettaboutit!! Love the old decor and is a great date place. I absolutely recommend it!

If you are a carnivore and have no idea what a vegetable is, then you should probably add Lindey's to your list of restaurants to try.  The restaurant itself is a neat lookin log cabin with dim lighting and a bar.
The food:  Steak, steak, steak, and.. shrimp.  It's nice to not have 3 pages of menu items to choose from:  just choose your meat and how bloody you like it, and that's it!  I'm not a huge fan of steak in general because it can be tough or bland, but I really enjoyed my piece this time!  The sides that are included aren't spectacular, but I did like the potatoes which went really well with my steak and it's juice.  It also helps that they are endless!

Note:  don't be absentminded and touch your plate.  It burns.

A-ok describes Lindey's perfectly.  It reminds me of a supper club set in the north woods of Minnesota.  Salad with their house dressing already plopped on top, garlic hot dog buns, and pickled watermelon.  Greaseless hashbrowns  are a cross between hashbrowns and mashed potatoes, very good and very addictive.  Steak was delish.

It was very loud  - not hear your neighbor's whole conversation loud, more like a  constant loud hum.  There were several times I had to ask my seat mate to repeat herself.

the noise and the fact that they do not take reservations kept this form becoming a 4 star experience.  Very solid and definitely a place to return to.

Steaks are as expected but nothing to cheer about.
    Prices are outrageously high!

Oh Lindey's, I love you on principle--but not in fact.

You want a steak? They have a steak. You don't want a steak? Too bad. You want a steak. I freaking love that. No pretense, no 10 cuts with crab and bernaise and myriads of other sauces to slather on your steak; messing with a perfectly good piece of meat.  You're going to get steak and you're going to get a lot of it. (They recently added a shrimp dish to appease the masses, but by all accounts it's nothing to note.)

Going to Lindey's is like going back in time in the best of ways. The decor is original 1950/60's lodge-style and the portions and menu match. (What would Don Draper eat? Some freakin' steak and a big heap of potatoes followed up by a pickled watermelon rind. That's what Don Draper would eat.)

I want so badly to love Lindey's. I love the atmosphere. I love the simple menu. . .

But I did not love the steak. I got the Lindey's special sirloin (the difference between special and regular being that the special is a nicer cut) cooked medium-rare. Since another person at my table also ordered the same temp, we got a huge slab o' meat sliced table-side into fourths. The problem with the steak was twofold:

    1. It was chewy. Really chewy. Even for a sirloin and especially for medium-rare.

    2. The flavor was derived from the sauce (cooking runoff) the steak was sitting in, not the steak itself. Without dipping it back into the juice it was really bland. The juice itself was quite salty so, you know, they tried.

The rest of the meal was okay. I'm not a potato fan, so the hashbrowns were decent, but I'm never going to give them a rave. The garlic bread was really dry. The button mushrooms were great, but they're mushrooms--how can they not be great? Strong pour on the Jameson-and-ginger ale--so two thumbs up there...

...Perhaps I just got a bad piece of meat? The person sharing my cut also agreed on the chewiness factor.

I'll likely go back for a redemption dinner and soak in the environment; basking in the warm glow of an Old Fashioned and pretending that I'm Betty-Drapering it up for the night.

I recently moved back to Minnesota and have driven by Lindey's almost every day and each time would tell myself, "I've got to try that place."

Well, just the other night I did and was very impressed with the Lindey's Special.  It was a really big steak done just the way I wanted it.  I'm not that big of a beef eater, so this was a treat.  I couldn't eat it all and had some great leftovers the next evening.

The atmosphere is reminiscent of the 50's and the north woods, with knotty pine everywhere.  In fact the bar is a 1927 original and seemed well stocked.

I'll go back again because I want to just hang out at the bar sometime.  I will also try something a little lighter next time. Not that the steak was bad, but it was just more than I could eat.

Their motto is correct, "The Place for Steak." You know a place is good if they only serve one thing and have been able to stay in business for over 50 years.

The portions are gigantic, the sides are bottomless (the hashbrowns are ridiculously amazing), and the cocktails are well-made and classic.

If it's your birthday, you get $25 dollars off your meal and since it's the perfect place to celebrate a birthday... take advantage of this.

The only recommendation I would have for them would be to expand the dessert menu... they only serve pre-fab standard cheesecake. We skipped it.

After your meal, go for a walk around the lake that's about a block away :)

Let's be clear.  Lindey's is a STEAKhouse.  You don't go there for chicken or seafood or a salad.  As their menu indicates, you can have steak, steak, or steak.  If you're not a carnivore with the spirit of a tyrannosaurus rex (at least the day you go there), don't bother even driving by.  Vegetarians will go up in smoke like a vampire in the sun, and vegans will burn out their eyes if they even look at the place.

Lindey's serves a medium steak, a large steak, or a super-duper steak.  Each meal comes with a salad (what's the point?) or hash browns (which are awesome), garlic bread, and pickled watermelon rind.  Now that last thing may not sound that good, but give it a try.  It's a nice contrast to the artery clogging grease of which you are about to partake.

Go there with an appetite and be prepared to spend 3 hours on a treadmill when you're done (the sooner the better to prevent the grease from coagulating in your veins).  But trust me.  It'll be worth it.

We were on the hunt for a good steak and this was the place to go.  The menu is only a four items long (house special steak, prime steak, chopped prime steak, and shrimp).  Price was about $30 per person but the steak was just great.  If you are not going to buy steak I suggest you skip this one but if you are then you should give it a try.

There was a few of us and two people got to split one massive piece of beef.  Cut right at the table and served on a sizzling hot plate.  No need to add any steak sauce, juicy and great tasting.  They have been in business for years and have a simple formula so I can see why it works.

Long a staple destination for family celebrations. The best around the cities?  Probably not, but much respect to long standing independent restaurants who do a job very well.

Non-meatatarians non-welcome.  As a mostly Seattle resident, I respect vegans, vegetarians, etc . . .  Despite this, many such minded folk often write reviews about carnivore institutions and complain that there are no good vegetarian options available.  What next? Why no alcohol served in a mostly Muslim country?  Why no pancetta in an Orthodox Jewish home?  I don't run to the vegan noodle house for a roast turkey dinner (?tofurky).

Tried this place out for the first time last night.

Atmosphere is A+ as mentioned by other yelpers with the nostalgia and intimacy of a small place.

Steak is A+, great slab of meat, hashbrowns were some of the best I ever had, enjoyed the bread and didn't try the watermelon rind.

    Service get's a solid B+.

I really got a kick out of the small, but unique idea of having postcards you could fill out and have them mailed to someone.

The reason this isn't 5 out of 5 stars is because their tap wasn't working and when I ordered a bottle of beer....yes, this is VERY beer snobbish of me I admit, she asked if I wanted a glass with it and didn't poor it in the glass for me.  I know, I know, what a snob right?  The thing is this was on top of the small tap selection they had being down and if I'm dropping $30 on a meal I want a good beer selection on tap, and if that isn't happening I want that little extra touch of them pouring my beer for me.

Oh, and I wouldn't suggest the shrimp, but this is coming from a "meat eater".  It tasted great (the wife ordered it), but the portion size seemed a little small for the price.

Ok, I don't want to end on that sour note, because it's not really a big deal, just the reason I couldn't go five for five.  If you're a steak lover TRY THIS PLACE, you won't be disappointed.  I won't claim they have the best steak in the cities, because I'm not experienced enough to make that claim, but you will enjoy your steak, the atmosphere, and the service.

Great sirloin, But that's all. The only thing they serve is sirloin fillet.

Your steak will come with iceberg lettuce in a small wooden bowl, hash browns and some hot dog buns called garlic bread.

If all you want is steak, it's great place.

They haven't wasted any money on decor. It's still 1950 inside and out.

I want to start off by saying they raise their own black angus cows, at no where else then Lindey's cattle ranch.

Best steak house in the Twin Cities!!!
They only offer steak, steak, or.... Steak!  The potatoes are awesome too, buy you can't eat to many of them or you won't have enough room for the yummy steak.

One quick tip they don't allow you to ruin a nice piece of meat by ordering it well done, so be prepared to eat something with flavor

If your not planning on drinking booze/water, be leery, the soda is small, over priced, and IS NOT FREE REFILLS...lol I racked up a nice sized bill with just my soda consumption.

If you take 35w to county rd D head east on D drive till you come to your first stop "SIGN" take a left (There are two roads you can take a left on, make sure its the one further away from you) if you follow that road its a short but pretty drive along lake johanna and will bring you right to the intersection the steak house is on.

I haven't been here in awhile so I can't comment on the service but I can say that the WORST steak we've ever had here was still the best damn steak we've ever had.

I have driven past this place literally hundreds of times.  Up until now Lindey's has always been the place that comes up in conversations with my brothers and dad when talking about places that I really want to try.  I was not disappointed.  The atmosphere can't be beat.  I am a sucker for old-school decor and Lindey's definitely has that "old elegance" vibe that one would find in a steakhouse like Murray's (Minneapolis) or Gordy's (Willernie).  Lindey's is a neighborhood gem and a place I plan on frequenting as much as I (and my wallet) can handle.

If you're looking for a steak this is THE place. They serve nothing but lots of red meat.  We've been coming to this place since 1968 and the only thing that has changed is the price. Yeah, it's gone up but they're still serving top quality beef, outstanding hash browns and wonderful garlic toast, just as they did then. The menu board looks like it hasn't changed in 40 years either. Our favorite waitress has been here over 35 years! Roadhouse atmosphere with terrific food.

I can see where this place is good for nostalgia, but it is not a good place for food.  I was excited by the previous yelp reviews about going and getting my steak on.  I was seriously disappointed.  The atmosphere is 1950's and quaint. Split wood walls, a fireplace blah blah blah blah.  I am sure that families have been coming here for years for birthdays and celebrations and for the friendly same ol' same ol'.  I am sure that it is a piece of your childhood and therefore skews you making a rational and unbiased review.

The "fresh bread" was nothing more than hot dog buns pulled apart cut into cubes soaked in butter and WAY over seasoned with garlic salt to the point that all you noticed was the salt.  The salad had a more than acceptable amount of wilted lettuce and about one-third of my salad was the white clumpy heart, who eats this? I ordered my steak medium-rare.  They brought it out and announced that I was medium, I asked the waitress if I ordered it medium or medium rare. I ALWAYS order steak medium rare but I was very tired and thought that maybe I made the mistake.  The waitress looked me in the eye and said medium.  Let me talk about this "steak" for a minute.  The sirloin is a peasant cut of meat anyway and it is all that Lindy's serve; they sear it in a pan creating a thick crust and then finish it up by broiling it.  The steak is presented to you on a metal plate, still cooking the meat while you are eating.  Since I thought I made the mistake and ordered incorrectly I was not going to send it back.  It was sliced in half, the first half was OK at best but by the time I got to the second half it was brown all the way through.  Yuck. Your "steak" comes with a side of hash browns that you can get at any diner in the country they were good but nothing special. The Jim Beam was very good.

I hate to slam some of the other yelpers, but if this "is the best steak" in the Twin Cities.  You have never eaten steak.  I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Oh and when I had crossed my knife and fork on my plate, the waitress comes over and tells me "You did order it medium rare." Thanks.

Holy s**t! This place is THE BOMB! That being said, I have only ever eaten lunch there as of this writing. Dinner is coming soon, but let me be the first to tell you that lunch there is incredible. There are more menu items for lunch than dinner. Apparently they have hamburgers and a grilled chicken sandwich, but if you order those at Lindey's, you need to be slapped - hard! The steak sandwich is a thing of beauty and grace. It comes after a wedge of lettuce in the house (homemade Thousand Island) dressing is placed in front of you. A hoagie roll with three or four half inch thick slices of the most tender steak you've ever had. It comes with chips, but you can upgrade to seasoned potatoes (don't do this, and you are a fool). The sandwich comes plain, but various condiments can be added for a paltry upgrade. All of this, and there's a bar, and the most awesome vintage Florida room feel, real wood paneling and ceilings with lots of windows (semi blocked off by awnings for a feeling of privacy while maintaining a peaceful view). This is *THE* perfect place to have a great old school meal.

OK, I've now eaten dinner at Lindey's as well. WOW! Take all the greatness of their lunch menu and amp it up with HUGE cooked to order steaks that come with seasoned potatoes, the salad with their signature dressing and sweet pickled watermelon rinds. Simply amazing. They mix a great cocktail to boot. Get over there, already!
