7 reviews for Lincoln Street
On the one hand, I really wish Lincoln Street were in Austin, so I could go there at least once a week for a relaxed evening of wine-sipping and cheese-noshing. On the other hand, if this place were in Austin, it'd be crawling wall-to-wall with trust fund hipsters and the wannabe wives of future lawyers, and I would hate it. As it is, Lincoln Street is one of my favorite out-of-town stops, and perfect just where it is.
It might be just the wine speaking, but I swear every time I walk out of this place, I'm a little smarter, and a tad more sophisticated. The owners/staff are all fantastically laid back and knowledgeable about wine, but in a friendly, down-to-earth, non snooty-sommelier sort of way. Cozy seating alcoves throughout are set with coffee table books about wine and wine country, the outdoor patio is hard to beat on a nice day, and if you're feeling n more outdoorsy than that, they'll even pack you up a picnic to go -- cheeses, salamis, prosciutto, olives, fruit, crackers, and bread, the foods wines love. They make good conversation and great recommendations, and apparently their cigar selection is good too, for those who are into that. Fredericksburg's Main Street is always a nice afternoon out, but when you start to tire of the shrieking grandchildren and empty-nester antiquers with their sweatshirt-wearing poodles, head on over a couple blocks to Lincoln Street for some peace and quiet, and a bottle or two.
This may have been the first time I choose a place based solely on it's positive Yelp reviews, but that's exactly what lead me to Lincoln Street and I was not disappointed. The bartender, Danny, asked me a few questions about my taste in wine and made a great recommendation while striking up a conversation and making me feel right at home.
The inside is very comfortable and welcoming. There is large main room to socialize, or more intimate nooks for quiet conversation. A great patio outside complete with a fireplace for the colder nights (including my visit). Since it's a block off Main Street, the patio is very peaceful.
Quickies: wine selection (4/5); cigar selection (2/5); prices (3/5); setting (5/5); service (3/5); food (5/5); prices (4/5).
Lincoln Street is THE place to get a cigar in Fredericksberg. There are other places to get wine, but the selection, prices and setting in which to enjoy it cannot beat this beautiful piece of luxury. The cheeses and other appetizers are incredible. We ordered the pesto and a cheese, costing three of us $4 a person. We felt we'd gotten a bargain.
There are imported (and domestic) beers for those who don't have a taste for wine. Their cigars were a bit lacking, but they had enough strong selections at an acceptable price. In other words, we didn't feel we'd been robbed at cork-point for the stogies we took out to the veranda with us.
Above all this, I need to say again that the setting is simply striking. The inside is luxurious and feels immediately inviting. The veranda is an even more beautiful setting, where vines climb up walls, across the hatched wood ceiling and down the fireplace. Anyone stopping into Fredericksberg for even only a few hours should be sure to check out Lincoln Street Wine Market.
Such a cool place. Get a plate of cheese and a bottle of wine and sit out on the patio and enjoy life with people you enjoy too. Really, isn't that what life is all about? The service is great and the prices are reasonable. What a find!
My girlfriends and I went decided that since we are in our early 30's that we no longer can go to the beach for Spring Break. So, we decided a sophisticated weekend trip to Wine Country. On a Saturday the girls and I did the spa thing and one of the ladies at the spa found an older gentleman to escort us around town that evening. This is the 1st place that we went to. As soon as you walk in you are just looking at cases of wine and the weather was just perfect outside to be close to the fireplace they have while a beautiful lady is singing indie music. The singer reminded me of Lisa Loeb. The staff was very helpful in picking a wine with a cheese/cracker platter. My friend got kind of goofy and knocked over her glass of wine over the table, the staff came right over and cleaned it up with no harsh words, just a harsh facial expression.
This place is a wine bar. They have a ton of interesting selections at fairly reasonable prices. The walls are lined with bottles. Lots of choices. I really wish there was a place like this in Austin. No doubt there are some interesting wine bars in Austin, but this one has a much better coffee house kind of atmosphere. Much better than say Cork & Co or Cru in downtown Austin. Can buy by the bottle or by the glass. Outdoor patio. Live music the Friday I was there. Cheese plates and some snacks but didn't try them so will have to update this next time I go.
Lincoln Street is my favorite wine shop/bar. I live in Chicago and visit my parents occassionally in Fredericksburg and this place tops anything I've seen in the Windy City. An excellent and eclectic selection of wines and it is changing constantly. You can try any bottle of wine in the house, even ultra ultra premiums like Opus One, by the glass, for a quarter of the bottle price. The scene at night is great, with a fun mix of service industry folks and tourists. Live music frequently, and an outdoor fireplace that is THE place to be in this town on a chilly night. Beautiful interior is Tuscan inspired and a relaxing place to spend an afternoon reading or chatting with the knowledgable and friendly staff.
