    THIS PLACE IS THE BEST!
I am currently writing this review as I sit in Lincoln Street Coffee because THEY HAVE FREE WIFI! To me this is incredible.  I live in Newton and was looking for a great cafe/coffee house that was nearby because the only places I knew of prior to this were closer to the college campuses (BU, Harvard, MIT, etc...).
On top of the free wifi thing, this place is awesome because it is filled with numerous BIG, comfy chairs and couches and gives you that feeling of sitting in your living room, only you can get up and order a cup of coffee as often as you please!
Finally, every patron that I have ever experienced in this cafe (I have been here a few times, I just never knew there was wifi until now) is extremely friendly.  Everyone is willing to watch your computer for a minute or 2 while you go up to the counter, and everyone has a smile on their face - perhaps due to the free wifi.
An added plus - they have a GREAT coffee, tea, latte, etc selection and there are even a bunch of good homemade food options (not just your average day-old pastries behind a window).

Stopped in here the other morning after I missed the shuttle to my job.  Had 45 minutes to kill until the next one.

Had a plain coffee and a piece of pound cake.  The coffee was just OK and the cake was very good.

Next time I'll spend some more time thinking about my beverage order, since I'm generally not a big coffee drinker.  Maybe a latte would have been a better choice for the AM.

I would definitely stop in again if I found myself with time to kill.

Great atmosphere, always friendly and welcoming staff.  Rotating art exhibit on the walls - sometimes the work is quite wonderful, other times passable.  I think the coffee gets an A-, the decaf is sometimes on the stale side.  Caramel apple cider is yummy and not too sweet.  Baked goods are wonderful and they have H&H bagels from NY.  Sandwiches fresh and innovative. If you drive watch out for the parking police, they are very aggressive on this street. Watch for the roaming Lincoln coffee truck!

I love this place!! I have been looking for a nice, comfortable local coffee shop that had frappes/frozen coffee/frappeccino-esque drinks. And this place fits the bill! They have frozen mocha lattes which are delicious!! And cute little tables and free Wi-fi. Servers are very nice. Prices are reasonable and they also have food and ice cream that I hope to try sometime soon. Only gripe is that they are only open til 7- but it is newton highlands so I guess I understand!

Great! Only complaint is lack of outlets.  My necessities include: sugar free syrups, bathroom, free wifi, and comfortable temperature.  Lincoln Street meets them all.  Great blended drinks.

Ok they make a good late, and their food is pretty tasty, and they are probably playing directly to the appropriate market for the area, but the atmosphere feels like it was purchased from Barns and Noble and I have no desire to spend time there. I want to want to spend time there, I just don't.

Instead I've taken up residence at the Tiki bar across Rt. 9 and am choosing scorpion bowls over frappuccinos because the coffee shop's dim lights, soothing earth tones and textured wall treatments make me want to climb onto the counter and plant a Diesel flag firmly in the tip jar.

I'm still adjusting to my new environment.

Great coffee drinks. Small selection of lunch items, but I'd bet that all are very tasty and have a homemade touch. There are also several gelato flavors available here...

Free wifi, but it would be nice if there were more wall plugs available. My first choice right now as my place to have "office hours" (aka I can't get any work done at home and I don't want to be stuck in a library at school).

WARNING: if you know you're staying, park in the public lot. The street parking is metered and limited to one hour. YOU WILL GET A TICKET.

ETA: Very sad. I have the 2009 macbookpro and am unable to connect to their internet even though other mac users were fine. My computer geek brother said something about how sometimes a router and a computer just don't speak the same language. Boooooo.

So now this is a place I go when I'm avoiding the internet but want a delicious latte.

Lincoln Street coffee is OK.  I was spoiled by the Diesel while living in Davis-- so it has some big shoes to fill.

While it's cute, and serviceable, it closes at 6 most days which makes it hard for me to conduct business there which is something I would like to do.

Every time that I've been there at peak hours (weekend morning or holiday brunch time) the employees have looked harried and overwhelmed and even the simplest things took FOREVER to make.

The selection is good, even for non-coffee drinkers (like myself) - they have marshmallows for their cocoa which I LOVE and have never seen elsewhere.  They also have gelati which I am looking forward to consuming copious amounts of this summer.

So all in all-- it does the job, but it could do it better.

A fabulous indie coffee shop tucked in the bustling, uppity 'hood of Newton Highlands. This is an indie coffee shop frequented by people who don't have "creative" piercings or copies of Bauhaus on vinyl. The decor is Pottery Barn-inspired, and the ceramic mugs and plates have a charming, handmade look to them. The interior has that dark, cozy feeling that's perfect for hunkering in. Which is exactly what I did this morning/afternoon--on the shop's comfy couch. Soundtrack: Jack Johnson and Madeline Peyroux. Decent background stuff in a crowd pleaser way.

Cafe fare includes some light lunch options--sandwiches and salads. Saw a nice-looking broccoli quiche in the display case. Bagels are fantastic (imported from NYC daily, I believe) and my vanilla chai latte was lovely. The espresso drink menu is extensive. Will have to come back to try the hazelnut latte.

Definitely a kid-friendly shop with the Horizon Organic chocolate milk sippy boxes and some books and toys. You're certainly not gonna find that at Somerville's Diesel Cafe. (But this is Newton, after all.)

Even with about five Starbucks within a two-mile radius, this place wins my patronage, hands-down.

I walked in here because the bagel shop I was going to go into was closed and I didn't want to go all the way out to Newton and not have anything to show for it. Well, after I sampled my latte and scone the only thing I really had to show for my trip was a place to cross off the list. The roast was bad and the latte was not professionally made. The crema was off, the milk was thin and the espresso, well lets just say it left a lot to be desired. I took a sip of it and didn't drink any more.
A bad latte is tragic, but I just don't understand bad scones. I'm not sure who made them, but they were flavorless and dry. Pretty much everything a scone shouldn't be.
What this place has going for it is a nice space and nice people working there. Unfortunately, that's not enough for me to go back.

Pros: Cozy, with the ambiance of your upscale friend's country chic living room -- in a good way. Fun but smooth music, with little bistro tables and some living room furniture. Free refills on regular coffee, which is served in real stoneware mugs. Wifi, and a kiddie table with a few games.

Cons: Music is a little bit loud, and there are few outlets. Slightly larger tables (near outlets) would be much appreciated by the laptop-lovin' (yep, that's moi). When I was in there, I counted five laptop users, three of whom were balancing them on their knees. The bistro tables are really only big enough to hold one laptop (and maybe a small notebook), so don't bring your study buddy.

This place is hopping with strollers on the weekends, which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. Laid-back, seems like a friendly place.... wish it were a little bigger.

The couches are very comfy and that's about all I can say at this point. Only because I have experienced better coffee. I was looking for coffee that reminded me of when I was back in Europe. Naturally, I compare coffee shops.

Although, Lincoln Street Coffee has a fun ambiance and comfy couches and seating, and free wi-fi, the coffee has to be excellent for me to give it more than 2.5-3 stars. I don't like giving bad reviews, I just wasn't enthralled with this place =/

However, I have to say I absolutely love the Tomato Basil soup days. My fave drink - Red & White Cappuccino!

We stayed in Newton, MA in the last few days and came here every morning. The manager here is a very nice person. He makes good coffee - I enjoyed my Americano, Oren enjoyed his espresso (he said that the shot is a little bit too 'long' but it's fine), Oren's parents enjoyed Late. They have great Gelato as well and great Bagels.
If you go there insist that the manager will make your coffee - there are other guys but they don't seem to be very knowledgable baristas.

They have about 10 tables, some books, great atmosphere, it's quiet and relaxed.

Sunday afternoon with several open tables is generally a bad sign but not so at Lincoln St Coffee! I had a tasty frothy latte with skim (which was decadent) and the boyfriend got a mocha (chocolaty enough but not too sweet). We didn't get any food but the deserts looked amazing.

The decor makes you feel like you are sitting in a Newton Highlands living room. A large couch with comfy chairs and a little kids area off to the side accompany the traditional cafe tables and chairs. It's a completely different atmosphere than Disel and Banq, more along the lines of the former BC student now turned suburban career woman's version of The French Press.

Love, love, love this neighborhood coffee house!

The owner, Peter, makes the coffee (most of the time).  They have real furniture: couches and big, comfy chairs.  They leave you alone to write, talk, or just think.  They openly welcome parents, and they have a changing table AND kid's books and toys.  It's the perfect place to get together with the girls and chat.

The coffee is delicious, the lattes foamy perfection (they use Crescent Ridge milk) and the Chai is a delicate treat.

Did I mention how much I love this place?

A comfy extra living room, located, conveniently enough, a mere block away from my own.  Coffee shops are kinda weird for me; i don't really know why there's any kind of attraction to them, for me, at least, considering i have a perfectly good coffee maker, a nice squishy couch, and wireless internet at home.  But sometimes you need to get out of the house, sometimes you need a change of scenery to concentrate.  And sometimes, if i've got to sit around and be a nerd, or do some work, it's nice to at least be out in the world to do it.  Even slightly.

At any rate, Lincoln Street is nice.  Good coffee, friendly people.  A nice window for people-watching, with awesome squishy chairs for lounging with the laptop.  The sandwich i had was a little bit on the spendy side, for what it was, but it was also tasty and nourishing.

If i was home more often on weekends, i'd probably find my way there quite a lot.

This coffee house draws me in like mosquitoes to the zapper, with less noise and equal electric effect...I make this analogy because I SWEAR no coffee wakes me up the way theirs does!  And tastes sooo good.  They have some nice specialty drinks which are good to switch it up, but even their simple cups of coffee and cocoa are fabulous.  I also really like the feel of this place.  It's very cozy and on rare free weekend days I'll bring a book or my laptop (internet too!).  The whole Lincoln St is very cozy in general, so on nice days its great to take your coffee outside too, or get it on your way to the T.  I'm so in love with this place that I've been known to suggest a walk over there on a Sunday morning even if I have a hangover.
Thank you for providing my neighborhood with a wonderful coffee stop and not forcing me to frequent the Dunkin Donuts.

Hands down one of the best and smallest coffee shops in Newton.  Nothing is more comforting than walking into a coffee shop as the barista is freshly grinding coffee beans that are going to be using in your next cup of Joe, it is truly a religious experience and I thank the coffee God, Java.

Pete makes the best cappucinos made from organic beans.  The perfect ratio of foam, milk, and espresso.  It warms the soul and gives me the energy to get through the day.  Go for the coffee or get comfy on the couch with the free WiFi.

This is my neighborhood coffee place so I may be a little biased, but I LOVE Lincoln Street. The coffee is always fresh, hot, and never has that burned taste that just ruins a cup of coffee. If you are a fan of milder coffees, the Kona Blend is fantastic! I usually stop in the morning on my way to work (one of the only times you can actually park in front), and typically am in and out in less than five minutes. The service is always fast and pleasant, and the bagels and muffins are good but not great (I'm a Jersey girl, so I'm a bit of a bagel snob). The coffee more than makes up for the bagels though.

Since this is typically a weekday morning stop for me, I can't comment on the atmosphere, although I usually cast a jealous eye toward the people curled up on the couches with a book when I'm on my way to work. Lincoln Street definitely seems like the type of place where you could spend a couple of hours on a cold winter day with a good book and a steaming mug of coffee.

Espresso drinks, while not perfect, are indeed very good.  And I am pretty picky, so this is high praise indeed.  Hot Cocoa was dynamite too.

Plus, it's a great place to come in and warm up in the winter.  Cozy atmosphere and warm, stimulating drinks.  Great combo.

LOVE that they have a corner with kids toys for the little ones to play with and give their parents a moment of quiet conversation.  Can't imagine that the people sitting next to the children's toys love it that much.

But seating is at a premium, so I guess at some level one has to take what one can get.  And hope that parents have taught their small children a modicum of decorum.

Great sandwiches and hot chocolate....cozy atmosphere.  I also like that their sandwiches are at least moderately healthy.

I was kind of disappointed after reading the reviews. I was expecting more of an old-fashioned, pre-Starbucks era coffee shop, like the dearly, dearly departed Someday Cafe in Somerville. Instead, while there is the obligatory comfy/ratty couch, the general decor and ambiance is more Starbucksy. Why the big printed menus and order board? Hello - chalk boards please. Why all the matched, no-personality tables and chairs? Mismatched and comfier, please.

All that said, the iced coffee was good, not too bitter, not to watery, and a grilled cheese sandwich was fine -- a little thick on the bread and needing some more melting time - but fine. There are also a few books and toys in a small play area for kids, which my daughter enjoyed.

This is my favorite place to waste a few dollars on some unnecessarily sweet drink that I probably don't deserve when I'm running late to work.  I mean, really, do I truly deserve a perfect white hot chocolate topped with fresh whipped cream on a cold winter day when I've just missed my bus (again) and will be catching a cab to work anyway? No.  But this is one case when I'm glad to say that I am not one to get what I deserve.

Love this place!  We got to this neighborhood a bit early for our reservation at 51 Lincoln, and I noticed there was live music in the coffee shop.  The service was absolutely amazing - they were very personable and chatty which is so hard to find in the Boston area.  I had a hot chocolate which was great and my husband had a mocha.  I loved the cozy, funky decor and that they use down to earth real coffee mugs.  They were also  very family friendly although we didn't have our kids with us.  Everyone in the place just seemed very happy to be there.  The music was nice also - you can't beat a coffeehouse with live acoustic music :).

This cafe has no idea what true espresso is, but the stuff that comes out of their Rancilio is the best substitute you'll find this far from the Boston Downtown. Just make sure to ask that the owner pull the shots.
You know the espresso is lacking when the reviewer comments on the atmosphere, so here goes. This place is very inviting, the owner is friendly and you could spend an entire rainy day here.
