This coffee house draws me in like mosquitoes to the zapper, with less noise and equal electric effect...I make this analogy because I SWEAR no coffee wakes me up the way theirs does!  And tastes sooo good.  They have some nice specialty drinks which are good to switch it up, but even their simple cups of coffee and cocoa are fabulous.  I also really like the feel of this place.  It's very cozy and on rare free weekend days I'll bring a book or my laptop (internet too!).  The whole Lincoln St is very cozy in general, so on nice days its great to take your coffee outside too, or get it on your way to the T.  I'm so in love with this place that I've been known to suggest a walk over there on a Sunday morning even if I have a hangover.
Thank you for providing my neighborhood with a wonderful coffee stop and not forcing me to frequent the Dunkin Donuts.

Espresso drinks, while not perfect, are indeed very good.  And I am pretty picky, so this is high praise indeed.  Hot Cocoa was dynamite too.

Plus, it's a great place to come in and warm up in the winter.  Cozy atmosphere and warm, stimulating drinks.  Great combo.

LOVE that they have a corner with kids toys for the little ones to play with and give their parents a moment of quiet conversation.  Can't imagine that the people sitting next to the children's toys love it that much.

But seating is at a premium, so I guess at some level one has to take what one can get.  And hope that parents have taught their small children a modicum of decorum.

Hands down one of the best and smallest coffee shops in Newton.  Nothing is more comforting than walking into a coffee shop as the barista is freshly grinding coffee beans that are going to be using in your next cup of Joe, it is truly a religious experience and I thank the coffee God, Java.

Pete makes the best cappucinos made from organic beans.  The perfect ratio of foam, milk, and espresso.  It warms the soul and gives me the energy to get through the day.  Go for the coffee or get comfy on the couch with the free WiFi.

This is my neighborhood coffee place so I may be a little biased, but I LOVE Lincoln Street. The coffee is always fresh, hot, and never has that burned taste that just ruins a cup of coffee. If you are a fan of milder coffees, the Kona Blend is fantastic! I usually stop in the morning on my way to work (one of the only times you can actually park in front), and typically am in and out in less than five minutes. The service is always fast and pleasant, and the bagels and muffins are good but not great (I'm a Jersey girl, so I'm a bit of a bagel snob). The coffee more than makes up for the bagels though.

Since this is typically a weekday morning stop for me, I can't comment on the atmosphere, although I usually cast a jealous eye toward the people curled up on the couches with a book when I'm on my way to work. Lincoln Street definitely seems like the type of place where you could spend a couple of hours on a cold winter day with a good book and a steaming mug of coffee.

Lincoln Street Coffee keeps me running daily.  The owner is a great guy and so are his staff.  This is definitely the real deal, local indie coffee shop not a starbucks knock-off. Their tasty treats in the morning are a brewing addiction, and their lunch is good too.

Hats off to Lincoln Street coffee!

A comfy extra living room, located, conveniently enough, a mere block away from my own.  Coffee shops are kinda weird for me; i don't really know why there's any kind of attraction to them, for me, at least, considering i have a perfectly good coffee maker, a nice squishy couch, and wireless internet at home.  But sometimes you need to get out of the house, sometimes you need a change of scenery to concentrate.  And sometimes, if i've got to sit around and be a nerd, or do some work, it's nice to at least be out in the world to do it.  Even slightly.

At any rate, Lincoln Street is nice.  Good coffee, friendly people.  A nice window for people-watching, with awesome squishy chairs for lounging with the laptop.  The sandwich i had was a little bit on the spendy side, for what it was, but it was also tasty and nourishing.

If i was home more often on weekends, i'd probably find my way there quite a lot.

my espresso was smoooth and yummy.  I believe my soy milk was of an organic nature without any hint of sweetner or flavoring.  I can't stand when I get soy milk that is all sweet.  I like my espresso smooth and yummy with soy and without the extra flavoring.  Can't say that I would hang out here but it was friendly.

Great coffee drinks. Small selection of lunch items, but I'd bet that all are very tasty and have a homemade touch. There are also several gelato flavors available here...

Free wifi, but it would be nice if there were more wall plugs available. My first choice right now as my place to have "office hours" (aka I can't get any work done at home and I don't want to be stuck in a library at school).

WARNING: if you know you're staying, park in the public lot. The street parking is metered and limited to one hour. YOU WILL GET A TICKET.

I used to work here as well and again am biased.

However, I have to say I absolutely love the Tomato Basil soup days. My fave drink - Red & White Cappuccino!

If I ever have time,  I would love to go back and just "hang out" on the big comfy couch and study for the GMATs.

Pros: Cozy, with the ambiance of your upscale friend's country chic living room -- in a good way. Fun but smooth music, with little bistro tables and some living room furniture. Free refills on regular coffee, which is served in real stoneware mugs. Wifi, and a kiddie table with a few games.

Cons: Music is a little bit loud, and there are few outlets. Slightly larger tables (near outlets) would be much appreciated by the laptop-lovin' (yep, that's moi). When I was in there, I counted five laptop users, three of whom were balancing them on their knees. The bistro tables are really only big enough to hold one laptop (and maybe a small notebook), so don't bring your study buddy.

This place is hopping with strollers on the weekends, which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. Laid-back, seems like a friendly place.... wish it were a little bigger.

I am a true coffee lover and this is a true coffee shop.  Their food safety practices leave a bit to be desired (read:touching my sandwich with bare hands, ehw!), but the coffee beverages are quite tasty.  Quaint and fun, this place has good stuff.

I met a friend here for a meeting.  She got food and a drink, I got nothing.  So I can only comment on the atmosphere/facilities.  Nice cozy feel, with good seating options - couch, comfy chairs, or tables.  Free wifi.  I love that it's kid friendly.  It was crowded when we were there (midday on a weekend) but we were still able to get a table.

We stayed in Newton, MA in the last few days and came here every morning. The manager here is a very nice person. He makes good coffee - I enjoyed my Americano, Oren enjoyed his espresso (he said that the shot is a little bit too 'long' but it's fine), Oren's parents enjoyed Late. They have great Gelato as well and great Bagels.
If you go there insist that the manager will make your coffee - there are other guys but they don't seem to be very knowledgable baristas.

They have about 10 tables, some books, great atmosphere, it's quiet and relaxed.

A fabulous indie coffee shop tucked in the bustling, uppity 'hood of Newton Highlands. This is an indie coffee shop frequented by people who don't have "creative" piercings or copies of Bauhaus on vinyl. The decor is Pottery Barn-inspired, and the ceramic mugs and plates have a charming, handmade look to them. The interior has that dark, cozy feeling that's perfect for hunkering in. Which is exactly what I did this morning/afternoon--on the shop's comfy couch. Soundtrack: Jack Johnson and Madeline Peyroux. Decent background stuff in a crowd pleaser way.

Cafe fare includes some light lunch options--sandwiches and salads. Saw a nice-looking broccoli quiche in the display case. Bagels are fantastic (imported from NYC daily, I believe) and my vanilla chai latte was lovely. The espresso drink menu is extensive. Will have to come back to try the hazelnut latte.

Definitely a kid-friendly shop with the Horizon Organic chocolate milk sippy boxes and some books and toys. You're certainly not gonna find that at Somerville's Diesel Cafe. (But this is Newton, after all.)

Even with about five Starbucks within a two-mile radius, this place wins my patronage, hands-down.

I was kind of disappointed after reading the reviews. I was expecting more of an old-fashioned, pre-Starbucks era coffee shop, like the dearly, dearly departed Someday Cafe in Somerville. Instead, while there is the obligatory comfy/ratty couch, the general decor and ambiance is more Starbucksy. Why the big printed menus and order board? Hello - chalk boards please. Why all the matched, no-personality tables and chairs? Mismatched and comfier, please.

All that said, the iced coffee was good, not too bitter, not to watery, and a grilled cheese sandwich was fine -- a little thick on the bread and needing some more melting time - but fine. There are also a few books and toys in a small play area for kids, which my daughter enjoyed.

Love, love, love this neighborhood coffee house!

The owner, Peter, makes the coffee (most of the time).  They have real furniture: couches and big, comfy chairs.  They leave you alone to write, talk, or just think.  They openly welcome parents, and they have a changing table AND kid's books and toys.  It's the perfect place to get together with the girls and chat.

The coffee is delicious, the lattes foamy perfection (they use Crescent Ridge milk) and the Chai is a delicate treat.

Did I mention how much I love this place?

This is my favorite place to waste a few dollars on some unnecessarily sweet drink that I probably don't deserve when I'm running late to work.  I mean, really, do I truly deserve a perfect white hot chocolate topped with fresh whipped cream on a cold winter day when I've just missed my bus (again) and will be catching a cab to work anyway? No.  But this is one case when I'm glad to say that I am not one to get what I deserve.

A great environment, friendly staff, and wireless internet.  The staff is welcoming and friendly and there is a constantly changing gallery on the walls. I love the ceramic mugs that fill and warm your hands.

Looking for a cheaper, more comfortable, friendlier place to get your daily dose of caffeine? Lincoln st coffee is the place to be. The ambience is that of a small bookstore, playing music from Rufus Wainwright to Patty Labelle, and art from local artists covering the walls. In the back corner of the shop you can sit and sip your drink on a very comfortable couch, with photo books in front of you on a coffee table. I have not yet tried the food they serve, various sandwiches and salads. However I have heard they are something to write home about. The coffee is better than starbucks AND dunkin donuts combined, and they have the best chai latte I have ever tasted. Lincoln st is not a chain, and you can usually find the owner serving your coffee, call him Paul.

The best part is, every Friday night they have liver performances, poetry readings, and gallery showings. Throw your starbucks crap out the window and get to Lincoln st now!

Love this place!  We got to this neighborhood a bit early for our reservation at 51 Lincoln, and I noticed there was live music in the coffee shop.  The service was absolutely amazing - they were very personable and chatty which is so hard to find in the Boston area.  I had a hot chocolate which was great and my husband had a mocha.  I loved the cozy, funky decor and that they use down to earth real coffee mugs.  They were also  very family friendly although we didn't have our kids with us.  Everyone in the place just seemed very happy to be there.  The music was nice also - you can't beat a coffeehouse with live acoustic music :).

This cafe has no idea what true espresso is, but the stuff that comes out of their Rancilio is the best substitute you'll find this far from the Boston Downtown. Just make sure to ask that the owner pull the shots.
You know the espresso is lacking when the reviewer comments on the atmosphere, so here goes. This place is very inviting, the owner is friendly and you could spend an entire rainy day here.
