At work we always stop by the farmers market on Tuesdays and pick up something - lately it's been blackberries, raspberries, cherries, blueberries and peaches. The fruit is always fresh and ripe. I've yet to taste anything that wasn't ripe and very, very tasty.
That seems to be the benefit over shopping for produce at your local supermarket - the goods at the Farmers Market are ready for consumption, unlike those green bananas that are common at the grocery store.

This is my local farmer's market and I love it. It has all the veggies I need - fresher and cheaper than you'd find at Jewel or Dominicks.
A couple stands sell the usual veggies - bell peppers, potatoes, onions, zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. Everything I need to make supper. A few other stands sell fresh pies, jams, cookies and bread (I bought some fantastic focaccia bread today!). There's also a stand that sells fresh flowers ... and I'm very tempted even though I work at a flower shop but his lilies, celosia, sunflowers, etc are gorgeous and high-quality.
Everything is reasonably priced - I bought all the veggies I need this week plus that yummy bread for just $12. And if you don't live nearby its conveniently located next to the Western El stop.

As far as weekday farmer's markets go, this one is pretty great... at least to the average cook. The market is located just south of Lincoln Square on Leland and Lincoln (next to the Western Ave. Brown line). It takes up the whole parking lot and has a pretty decent selection. If you are running your own gourmet restaurant, it may not be to your liking or have everything you need, but for the average, everyday chef just looking for a few fresh ingredients for dinner or some specialty spices or jams, it's a great little spot!
Street parking in the area is pretty plentiful this time of day/week (Tuesday mornings), but it's also a great walk if you live in the immediate area. It doesn't ever get too crowded (it is Tuesday morning after all) so you never feel rushed or pushed around.
If you are driving by or have a Tuesday off, stop by and look around, it's really quaint and cute!

just right. this is definitely a humble farmer's market in comparison to evanston on saturdays or green city. The prices are better, and it's small enough that none of the the stands selling similar produce will have wildly different prices for the same product. two bakeries are usually in attendance on of which sells an excellent walnut golden raisin pumpernickel.
the veggies people are crazy friendly, and the fruit people are a little off-putting in their pretense. The mushroom man is the best.
I drive by this farmer's market every Tuesday on my way to work. I always mean to stop but haven't till today. Despite not being on the weekend, there is a good number of venders and a diverse mix of goods like John B. said in his review. The pricecs are on scale with the other farmer's market that I have been to. I picked up a currant scone for breakfest which is awesome! It beats Starbucks any day. If you are in the area, definently stop by. The quality of the produce here beats Jewel anyday.

In the triangle lot next to the Western Brown Line station.
Every Tuesday from June through October.
This is a great weekday Farmer's Market, for those of you who want to avoid the Saturday crush. Great mix of standard fruits and vegetables, along with fresh flowers, bread and pies, coffee, granola, and Illinois beef. A few big marketers, such as Seedling Fruit, and some nice surprises, such as specialty peppers. It's small enough not to be overwhelming, but has a good mix of produce. Very friendly and helpful marketers!

I would love to visit this market more often but Tuesday morning is just not a good time for me.
