Warning - This place reeks of Asian Cheapness.

I stayed here for two nights 2/1 and 2/2/08.  Based on some light research, it appears this place is the only "large" hotel in Monterey Park.

The hotel has its own parking garage so unlike most other businesses in Monterey Park, parking is not an issue.

Upon entering the lobby, you will it appears clean and inviting.  On the first floor, there is an Italian clothing store (strange place for one), an enterprise rental car office, the remnants of what used to be a bar but is now a coffee bar, and a mink store (yes, a mink store).  There is also a restaurant, but it was closed for remodeling.  There is also a so called "business center", there is no fitness room.

My room was $79/ night.  It had two queen beds.  Upon entering the room, everything seemed normal for a large hotel.  However, things would soon change.

The TV remote would only allow me to change channels in one direction and the sleep function did not work.  I then noticed that the TV was a Magnavox brand, while the remote was Zenith.

The telephone was a standard hotel type phone with a bunch of buttons.  However, the guide on the telephone was blank, so there probably was not way to direct dial housekeeping, etc.  Even if there was direct dial, you wouldn't know what button to push.

There was a bare desk and a wobbly round table with a round base.  I only mention the base because if it had legs, I'm sure a worker would have tried to steady it as they do in Chinese restaurants - with a piece of newspaper or cardboard under one of the legs.  There was no notepad or pen anywhere to be found.

Now the bathroom.  When I first walked into the bathroom, I thought someone had either barfed in the sink or doo-dooed in the sink.  There was some disgusting looking brown coloring in the sink.  I looked a little closer and realized it was not vomit or poo-poo, but a lame repair attempt of some chipping in the sink.

When I turned on the shower, water shot sideways towards the toilet from where the shower head connects to the pipe.  The water heated up fast, but it was a constant cat and mouse game trying to keep the temperature steady.  It was impossible to keep the temperature steady for anymore than a few moments.  Too hot, too cold, too hot.

The caulking around the shower was so poorly done it looked like a 5-year old had performed the maintenance.

During the day, the coffee bar transformed into a mini flea market for peddlers of cheap suits, furs, and leather jackets.  It seemed strangely appropriate for this establishment.

I visited the so called business center to try to print my Southwest boarding pass.  The "business center" is a small room with a table and a single network cable lying in the center of the table.  That's right, no computer, let alone a printer.  After this discovery, I asked the woman at the front desk if she could get on the Internet and print my boarding pass.  She pointed to a computer that was on front desk and said it had Internet.  I assumed I would be able to print from this computer, but there was no printer hooked up to it.  However, there was a small note taped on the screen that asked you to limit your time on the Internet otherwise they would charge you some fee for going overtime.  Unbelievable.

As far as hotels go in the area, I guess this is the only game in town and they apparently know it.  The level of cheapness here is incredible.  How ironic is it that this place has a mink store?

I am Asian and know Asian Cheapness when I see it.  I saw plenty here.

I stayed here just for one night during the President's day weekend.  This was the only hotel in Monterey Park, the rest being motels and lodges.  Parking was the only thing that wasn't an issue.

Upon checking in I was greeted or I should say questioned by an Indonesian man. I wanted a non-smoking room and this guy kept looking at my friend asking am I sure if I wanted a non-smoking because my friend looked like a smoker.

The room had 2 queen beds, a coffee maker in the restroom, refrigerator next to the TV and a cathode tube TV that had it's better days. The air conditioning unit was one of the old models was right at the window and only had high, low and off. The TV had maybe 10 channels and half of them had static.

Our room was located on the 5th floor, right above their club on the 2nd floor.  We walked in there just to see the atmosphere, there were 2 attractive Asian woman in red shorts that worked there and about 4 guys patronizing it. By 2am the music finally ended for their private event since there were only about 7 people total, but the people kept on making noise until 3am which the hotel did nothing about.

As part of our vacation tour package, we had to choose between this hotel or another hotel that was much cheaper and crappier. So we chose this. The first room they gave us, I don't remember what the problem was, I think because the TV won't turn on, they offered to give us another room, which was nice. This is probably a 3-star hotel but not that bad. It's a in a very convenient location where there's a bunch of restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, etc. so everywhere you turn, they'll be a number of choices! Breakfast is free, so you don't even have to worry about going out for breakfast.

I can't speak for the previous reviewers, but I'm always mindful of how much money I'm paying for something before I complain about its quality.  Nowadays, a room in a clean, safe hotel will cost you anywhere from $70 to $500+ in the Los Angeles area.  Hell, even a room at a Motel 6 is $66.00. So when I stayed at the Lincoln Plaza and paid less than $80, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect and I kept an open mind.

What I can tell you is that you get what you pay for, and this place is a good bargain for those who are just looking for a nice place to sleep.  If you're staying in Monterey Park, you're not there for the nightlife or local attractions (other than the great Chinese food).  You'd probably only be there on business, a wedding banquet, or perhaps as a stop on some tour.  It's a pretty quiet Asian community.  I'm not sure it's fair to expect an exotic resort-style Hotel in the middle of this kind of city.

That said, the Hotel is on the older side.  The staff is mostly helpful, but it is obvious that English is their second language.  The rooms lack certain amenities provided by other places.  Personally, I barely use any of those anyways, and I never liked the idea that I was paying for that elsewhere.  But with free parking and free wireless internet, I felt I got a great deal for the extremely low price that I paid.

Incidentally, I really don't think it's fair that a previous reviewer has the nerve to blame the hotel for a power outage.  (Worse yet, he is still angry even though the power did apparently come back on before the scheduled event.)  Seriously, if there's a blackout, you should be calling up Edison rather than demanding that the Hotel relocate your entire wedding banquet.

lamentably, i cannot give the Lincoln Plaza 0 stars

my wife and i hosted our wedding banquet here in early January '08. those of you in CA might recall a powerful storm that first weekend of the new calendar year - well that was when we had our wedding!

the power at the lincoln plaza hotel went out the night before our event. most of my family was staying at the hotel - on the top floor. so no power, no elevators, no lights in the stairwell (the front desk did give us the little round push lamps), no hot water. fortunately the power was back up in the early afternoon the next day (wedding day) before we began our banquet.

so understandably, power outages are not something they could foresee. ahh! but here is the issue - zero effort was made to aid us in an alternative location for our event. the hotel manager deferred to the owner who only stated that they were not responsible (based on the contract) and that we were left to wait for the power to come back up. how were we to know whether the power would be up or not? the hotel's back-up generator failed the night before, but we were assured that "someone should be here soon to work on it." being in the service industry and considering it is one's wedding day, one might expect a bit of service.

to this day, we are having issues with billing - a number of our family members have been charged for that night without power. management refuses to assist guests - customer service is non-existent.

you do get what you pay for - cheap hotel, zero customer service
i would not recommend this place ever.

regards,
B
