I love Elena. She is really excellent at her job, and it's obvious that she knows physiology and anatomy well. I go to her for deep tissue massage, and I'm always happy with the results.

LPMS, though, is a somewhat dated facility. So if you're looking for someplace that looks nice and modern, this isn't it. But if you're looking for someone with great hands who can really get in there and work out the kinks, Elena's your gal.

One pain: Parking can be a nightmare in this neighborhood. Every time I go, I have to leave a little early to allow time to search for a street spot.

These people know what they are doing. I have had  several different people work on me and each is better than the other. The rooms with  different themes works nicely as I enter this place in different moods.

I decided to give gift certificates to friends because I liked this place so much.  Did you know they also have a massage  school which sometimes meets in the flowers across the street from their spa?

Chicago has quite a few spas but for my money this is the best.  I have tried a dozen or so over the years but now I stay with Lincoln Park Massage Spa. Sure I could spend more money but why?

I had posted a review a few weeks ago regarding the lack of response to a complaint that I had sent to Lincoln Park Massage Spa. Since then, I received a voicemail in addition to a beautiful plant placed on black stones in a large glass vase which was sent to my apartment. It is truly beautiful and was accompanied by a hand written note from the Owner which was specific to my complaint. It was a very much appreciated personal touch.

I'm sure my experience was abnormal and was simply an honest mistake. You should probably try it out.

I have had many, many massages and only half of them have been satisfying. I say that because I have slight scoliosis and have always had quite a bit of tightness in my upper back/neck area. Sadly, many "trained" masseuses have failed to notice or do much to relieve my tension.

That all changed one fateful day in September. I took my cousin to LPMS for a birthday massage and decided to get one for myself as well. They left me in the hands of Elena Pop . . . and the rest is history. All she did was rub her hands over my back once and she immediately knew I had scoliosis. After that, I never had to tell her what to focus on because she knew exactly where the tightness was and what I needed to relieve the tension. There were times when I would say things in my head, and she would immediately begin massaging those areas. I was almost afraid that she not only was an awesome masseuse but a talented mind-reader as well! My cousin also raved about her masseuse whose name I unfortunately can't remember.

Needless to say, I have forgotten every massage I've had in the last six years except for this one. I realize now that I've wasted so much money paying for massages that do nothing for me. All I needed was the right masseuse. Lincoln Park Massage Spa doesn't have a fancy changing room with bathrobes, slippers, a rain shower, or scented lotions . . . but they do have a relaxing space and extremely skilled masseuses who actually understand the body and know what they're doing. They also have different monthly specials and promotions throughout the year, so you'll most likely save while pampering yourself (which is rarely the norm at other spas). I've already planned my return, and LPMS is the only spa I'll be going to from now on.

The staff at the desk was genial and nice, but that is where this story turns south. the massage was mediocre at best. and the decor was something out of a sub-rate 80's porn. if they remodeled and actually took some care with their customer base, they would still be a waste of money.

I had my first appointment with Lincoln Park Massage Spa and Chris, the owner runs a great spa.  You can expect a phone call reminder and thank you email as you are walking out from your appointment. (15% off discount if you rebook within 30 days!) Very clean, professional staff, and easy to get to within the city.

As far as the massage, I've tried all of the high end places (and low-end) within the city and LPMS is top rated, as the therapist listened to what I wanted and delivered a FANTASTIC 60-minute massage.

I would highly recommend this spa and you will not be disappointed.

I was so disappointed with LPMS. After reading the reviews I was expecting to get a nice relaxing massage for my birthday. Like other people mentioned, the facility is a little outdated, but that was the least of my concern.

I walked in with neck and shoulder pain and walked out of there in more pain than when I had walked in, not to mention that it is 2 days later and it is still painful...so much for relaxation.  The only thing more painful was handing over my money after this terrible massage.

On 2 separate occasions my masseuse climbed up on the table while he was massaging me. This has NEVER happened anywhere else I have gotten a massage, and it was awkward and unprofessional.

This experience was horrible, I will NEVER go back here for a massage.

So, after cleaning up my place, I came across an unused http://spafinder.com gift card! yay!! I promptly took the card, and went directly to the website, and found LPMS on their web page. I decided to give this little place a shot!

I'm not sure what all the gripes about the appearance of this little spa are all about. Sure, it's not super swanky, but I find it to have a ton of personality!

My massage therapist was amazing. She got all the cricks and knots in my back, and made me feel oh so good!

When I find another gift card (here's to wishful thinking!), I'll come back again!

Yes, I know I'm a small girl. Petite even. Which must make people think that I'm delicate like a flower and will wilt under excess pressure.

But please, just because I look fragile doesn't mean that I really am. If I sign up for the deep tissue massage, that means I want a knock-em-out-tension-destroying-muscle-relaxing-th at-makes-me-feel-like-a-noodle deep tissue massage.

    Yeah! That one.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great massage here. That made me go so oh aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.... Even now, 6 hours post-massage I'm still in a heavenly dazey glow. But it felt more like a general relaxation massage ala Swedish Massage, not the beating I was expecting. You see, I work my body hard and I was hoping for some pain and pressure to relax specific muscles I told the therapist that were tight and sore, not what I got, which was an overall nervous system relaxation.

So I'm conflicted - the massage was really good (I even drifted off into peaceful, dreamy never-land when she was working my feet), but I don't feel like it's what I ordered. I'm not exactly a massage connoisseur, but I did research the difference between the deep tissue and Swedish, and I had the impression that deep tissue was more intense than Swedish such as targeting specific muscle groups like a sports massage, and I've had Swedish massages far more of the beat up variety than this one, which is what I was hoping for.

Next time I'll just ask for bruises. Maybe that will give me the all caps AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH I was hoping for, rather than the sublime lower caps ahhhh I got.

Agnes is wonderful. All of the therapists are so nice. If you want a massage without all the fuss and high end snooty-ness then this is the place. The setting is cozy and comfortable and you feel very welcome from the moment you enter.

Thanks to Goldstar, I've been to Lincoln Park Spa two times for 90 minutes Swedish massages for only $65. Both times I went I had two different massage therapists. The first time was a tiny blonde. I really wondered if she'd be strong enough - I'm not large, but I am that typical Asian who loves deep pressure and I have a seriously high pain threshold. I had some upper back/neck tightness and she hit all the right spots. This lady was good. I have a tendency to doze off during massages, but this one was too good that I wanted to be conscious for all of it!

The second time I had a therapist who I had to ask repeatedly to apply more pressure. I ended up just falling asleep and waking up with dry mouth - which I guess is good. Their regular prices seem a little up there to me, so I only go when there's availability through Goldstar, but overall I think this is a solid spa.

If you're driving, get there early to make sure you can find street parking.

Thank you Lincoln Park Spa, for taking in a poor, tired marathon victim at the last minute.  Well, also thank you to the hostess at Toast for working your magic and getting me in.

The waiting room is super cozy, and the massage rooms are even better.  The therapist did a fantastic job of working out my knots gently and putting me on my way to running (hopefully) again soon.  I even got a discount for being a marathon runner.  Wooho!

I came here on other people's good reviews, and I was definitely disappointed. I got a scrub + massage.  And while I like a good massage, I'm more of a scrub person. Of the almost 90-minute session (she started late), the scrub was only 20 minutes. They must not have a shower there, because when she started applying the scrub, she put me in this funny position - knees up, feet on the table, which I soon discovered was so she didn't have to flip me over and get salt scrub on the sheets. So my legs were mostly done, my arms were done, but no chest or stomach at all, then for my back she actually made me sit up and hunch over so she could do my back. Completely not relaxing at all! Then she took the scrub off with hot towels, which was pretty uncomfortable with all the rubbing. Then I had to stand up to one side while she put on a new sheet. The massage was nice, but all in all it was a little ghetto, which was especially disappointing given that it was not cheap. I'd suggest trying somewhere else.

You know, it's just not my cup of tea.  The space isn't spa-like at all, you kind of feel like you're in an old lady's house.  The treatment was fine, but I'd rather go to a more modern spa.

There were also people gossiping right outside my door during the treatment; it was distracting and annoying.  You'd think they'd be ultra sensitive to that given they do call themselves a spa...

In addition to the treatment, though, I liked the mix of music they played.  Normal Zen-type, with classical, Gaelic, and opera mixed in.  Nice twist!

Just had a massage recently.  It wasn't the best massage I've had but ok

    What I liked:
deep tissue hit the right spots
hot towl on my neck and cool ice pack on my eyes

    Needs improvement:
The space is dated and quite off
Sheets are super cheap and thin
The rooms are dingy, moldings are dirty, carpet filthy
The technician used oil and litterally slopped in all over me.  It was sort of messy and just felt awkward

For the price, you may as well go to Urban Oasis.  They have highly trained staff and a pristine facility.  For the overhead and surroundings at Lincoln Park Massage - I would expect a discount to places like Urban.  The facility is not doing anything to help the staff maintain and build a returning client base.

I got a gift certificate for a 75 minute full body deep tissue massage from Lincoln Park Massage Spa for Mother's Day and it was great!  I loved the paraffin hand treatment, the hot towels, heated neck wrap and cool eye compress and the lemon grass scented oil was so yummy smelling and relaxing.  My masseuse was excellent and I really appreciated her very deep pressure and for checking in with me, but not constantly asking me, 'is this OK?"  "is this too much?"  "how is this?" every minute.  By the end of the session, all the knots in my shoulders were gone, my hands and skin felt buttery smooth and I was totally blissed out.

I didn't have any trouble at all with the noise as some other yelpers have experienced.  Sure the decor isn't super posh, but it's clean, pretty and more than acceptable, besides I spend nearly my whole time in such a place with my eyes closed.  The staff was super polite and helpful and friendly. My only complaint would be the quality of the sheets, which were thin and too coarse for my preference.

I would definitely return and fully recommend.

    Fantastic!

I got a giftcard for Lincoln Park Massage from my boyfriend last Christmas and I just got around to using it!  This was my first massage ever, so I was a bit nervous and didn't really know what to expect.  Since I have lower back problems, I chose the Neck, Shoulders and Back massage because I knew the therapist would concentrate on my upper back and shoulders rather than the lower back.  It was great!  I requested a female massage therapist (again, I wasn't sure what to expect) and she was great.  She began with a gentle massage to my shoulders and back and then began with the real massage.  It was very, very relaxing.  I really felt like she knew what she was doing and I felt very comfortable.  She even used pumpkin spice massage oil - so amazing!

The shop has a great selection of massage products available for purchase.  There was a lot of massage oil as well as beauty products, robes, pajamas, jewelery, etc.  It was a very nice selection and I bought some lavender massage oil - very relaxing and soothing.  The waiting area of the shop is also very relaxing - the couches are super comfortable and there is a lot of soothing music playing.  I didn't feel like I was in a weird place and I felt very comfortable.  There was also a lot of reading material during your wait to begin the massage.  They seem to start appointments right on the dot, which is really nice and professional.

I will definitely be back for another massage in the near future.  I think the next time I will request an aromatherapy package (extra $5) for the next massage.  They will fill the room with the scent that you choose for an extra bit of relaxation.  I was very, very satisfied with my overall experience and I will be back again for a massage.  Just remember - you can't tip with your credit card!  Bring cash!

I like the decor, it made me feel more like I was visiting my mom than imposing on a rich friend.  If I feel at home I'm more likely to forget where i actually am and enjoy the massage.  That's what happened here.

When I left the massage room I felt a little woozy, even.  Like I had just gotten up from a five hour nap.  That's what it should feel like, I think.

I went here for the first time a few days ago. I was given a gift certificate for a one hour Swedish massage. I get massages a few times a year, and have been to several different places. There were a lot of pros about this place, and while I did not have a terrible experience, I probably wouldn't come back here to pay for a massage.
    The pros:
*I love the location. I was here on a beautiful day, and it was very peaceful to see everyone at the park, and not be surrounded by horrible traffic.
*The chairs in the waiting room are possibly the most comfortable chairs I have ever waited in.
*Receptionist was very pleasant, and very prompt.

    The cons:
*My massage therapist was sick. Now, I am no germaphobe by any means, so I wouldn't mind if she just had allergies, or a small case of the sniffles... but she actually had an outright cold. Very sniffly, and very  gross sounding cough.
*I felt like she was dawdling for my massage.... The massage actually lasted just under an hour (from the time she called me in, until the time I left- fully dressed), and I feel like she was wasting a lot of time fumbling around for oil, and walking around the room. She left for a few minutes to get me (an AWESOME) warm neck pillow....but I just feel like I missed out on a lot of time.

Overall, when I left, I felt relaxed but unsatisfied. It was not the fulfilling, stress-relieving experience I was so looking forward to. At least, not $95 stress-relieving.

We received a gift certificate for a Couples' Massage at Lincoln Park Massage spa from some friends recently. After reading the online reviews I was a bit nervous about some of the comments I read regarding the decor and noise levels. I can say both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised with our experience.

No, they don't have the uber-trendy minimalist decor of say, Bliss Spa or the luxury of Elizabeth Arden, but the surroundings are comfortable, clean, and inviting.

The staff was very welcoming and pleasant, and both of our masseuses were professional and gave great massages. My hubby was a bodywork virgin, and his masseuse was appropriately respectful of his naivete and nervousness.

We didn't hear any noise in the hallway during our treatment, as other reviews have mentioned. Parking was surprisingly easy for Lincoln Park (we found street parking right across the street on a Saturday afternoon).

I would definitely go back here.

My husband and I got a couple's massage here for our anniversary. It was awesome! The masseurs (sp?) were both excellent.
A couple issues- someone set the alarm clock in the room and it went off...twice.  I guess the masseuse didn't know how to turn the alarm off--it was quite startling!
Also, I wanted to pay with cash and she automatically charged my card. Not a huge deal, but c'mon, you said the cc number was just to hold the reservation!
Anyway, what I went for was a good massage, which I got. I'd go back, too!

I had my first 90 minute hot stone massage here today and it was AH-mazing! My massage therapist, Wyman, was incredible. The hot stones were, well hot, at first but then your body adjusts to the heat and it feels incredible especially if you have sore muscles. I didn't want to move afterwards and luckily I was told there was no rush to get up. A warning-hot stone massages are not for the modest! You have to be completely naked and for maximum benefit the stones are rubbed over just about every part of the body (no not there). Believe me you will be so blissed out you won't care!

The massage rooms all have different themes and are decorated accordingly. Mine was Pleasure Paradise. Now that's a room I wanna go into! There was soft music playing and I didn't hear any outside noise. Thanks to Goldstar I got a discounted rate (otherwise their services are pretty expensive). It's true that it's not a typical spa experience at first. It's small and there's no robes or changing area besides the bathroom. However the staff is friendly and most importantly the therapists are professional and great at what they do. Highly recommended!

The good: low-key atmosphere, excellent service for mid-range prices.
The...well, not-so-good: the staff can be impersonal (and I say that as someone who doesn't like to chat during a session) and a lot of sound comes through the massage room from other areas of the building.  Parking can be a struggle, but hey - it's got "Lincoln Park" right in the name, so you know what to expect.  In fact, this place offers validated parking across the street in the hospital garage - but remember to ask about it before you leave, because the receptionist won't remind you.

Brian, my massage therapist, was skillful and responsive.  I certainly feel as though it was time well-spent, but I left knowing that I'd keep investigating different spas and salons in the area.  What can I say?  I'm a giver.

Note: if you're not paying full price for whatever reason, do check your bill - the BFF and I went on a gift certificate and were charged incorrectly (the issue was resolved right away).

Thanks to the Hot on Yelp promo, I enjoyed my first 1.5 hour massage here.  It was woooooonderfuuulllll.  I actually fell asleep for a minute or two, I was so relaxed.  Have you ever had your earlobes massaged?  That may sound odd, but it feels superduper.  Seriously, she deftly massaged every non-ladyparts inch of me and it was divine.

I guess I should also say something about the atmosphere - nice little waiting area, friendly receptionist, prompt check-in/out.

Next time I'm shooting for 2 hours - is that overkill?

I went to Lincoln Park Massage Spa to use a gift certificate for an hour-long massage that my boyfriend gave me, and when I entered, I liked the atmosphere a lot.  The waiting area is very cozy and cute, and the receptionist offered me some refreshment as soon as I walked in, which is always a nice touch.

My certificate was for a Swedish massage, but I upgraded to a deep tissue.  My technician was Donna, and she was absolutely fabulous.  I'm a dancer, as well as a receptionist, so I build up a great deal of muscle tension, and she just went to town.  She worked really hard on my back and shoulders especially, and although I will agree that the actual decor in the massage rooms is a tad cheese-ball, I came out feeling incredibly relaxed.  It was probably the most fulfilling massage I've ever had.

    Nice work Lincoln Park!

Not much to say that hasn't already been said: the rooms are a bit dated, but the massages are great.   I don't care that there's nature wallpaper on the walls when I'm getting my massage, my eyes are closed, so the massage is the only thing that matters.  Some candles or light smells would have been nice, but the massage was so perfect, LPMS still gets 5 stars in my book!

I had Karen, and my wife had Erena (sp?).  Both rock!

This place reminds me of where I used to go in Cincinnati--a quaint cottage setting where I could get massages.  The technicians here are pretty good & pay attention to your needs.

Price is affordable & the usually have decent monthly specials.  The sheets they use to cover you are a little thin, but again, their prices reflect the lack of frou-frou details.  You can easily park, a rarity in Lincoln Park at either the LP Children's Hospital garage ($2 validated) or on the side streets.

I haven't experienced the noise issues that some other Yelpers have mentioned, but it might just be because I go during off times.

I agree with the review that it wasn't spa-like and had grandma decor... and that's why I love it. I'm not a big fan of sterile/European-looking spas decorated with plants that are more high maintenance than I am. I was instantly relaxed coming in here and felt like I was in a cozy cottage.

I had Neil and he was awesome. It was my first massage, so I was a little nervous, and he did a great job of asking all the right questions, explaining why I had the knots I did, and listening to my feedback.

edit: Since then I've seen Neil about every month. He just has the best vibe--total laid-back, rock climber type of guy who just has a really warm personality. Plus his massages are so therapeutic: They not only make me feel great that day, but also the entire week afterward. I'm a really slouchy cube monkey, so it takes some skill to make a dent in the damage I've done.

Unfortunately when he was on vacation I got this girl who was all pinchy. Ask for Neil, he's the best!

I've been to Lincoln Park Massage 3 times.  The first time I had a good experience with a Swedish massage from a male masseuse (I forget his name).  The second time I was really disappointed with the female masseuse I had.  She didn't focus on the areas I asked her to and she couldn't get the pressure right, it was either not enough pressure or pinching!  It was not relaxing at all and I left in worse shape than I came. Following that appointment, I called and explained that I was really unhappy with my last massage.  The owner, Dr. Wyman, called me back and offered to give me a free massage to make it right.  I finally went back in last night and I definitely got my money's worth.  Dr. Wyman gave me a phenomenal deep tissue massage and even threw in some acupressure and stretching.  It was ah-mazing.  I'll definitely be back.

I have been here twice (once in April and on Monday night) and both times I got exactly what I needed! In April I went in because I was sore from tons of springtime running and got a 1 hour Sweedish Massage plus a 15 minute add on foot massage (which was free-always check their website for specials!) with Elena. She gave me the perfect amount of pressure (hard but not deep tissue hard) and I left wanting to run home with a smile on my face :)

Due to an unfortuate ankle injury I was unable to go during the summer but returned on Monday night. I am on their mailing list and got a coupon for 20% off anytime this month because it's my birthday. I had Paula and told her that I was feeling stressed and needed some relaxation. I did a 60 minute Sweedish massage with a 15 minute neck/scalp add on and lavendar aromatherpy. It was once again amazing and I left feeling like I had a huge weight lifted from my shoulders!

Both times I went I was able to make an appointment during the day for a massage that night (weekday nights). Their online booking is really well set up, you pick your services and then search availability by everyone, female/male or from a list of names. As I stated before they always have some sort of special going on- either their monthly special from their website or from their emails. They also send you a coupon after your appointment for 10% off in the next 30 days. What can I say, I'm a sucker for specials :-)

My husband and I have been here twice now for couples massages, and each time it's been absolutely wonderful.
Maria the reservationist is very nice and hospitable, and our massage therapists have been really responsive and capable of giving us both fantastic massages! I really liked Kim-she was strong and seems very caring at the same time. I love this place, it smells nice, it's warm and comfortable and they give great massages! Like a retreat in the city

Who cares about the decor in the rooms if your eyes are closed? Make an appointment for sure, and I wouldn't recommend parking unless you have extra time.

I can't wait to go back!

I'm a gal who likes massages and I've been to many different spas. My mom had a Spa Finder gift certificate and after looking up several spas we decided to try Lincoln Park Massage Spa. I was a little concerned about the reviews that said it reminded them of a grandma's house and wasn't "spa like", but I decided to go for it.

I was pleasantly surprised. Yea my room didn't have candles, but it wasn't a bare room either. It wasn't so different than many spas that I've been to. More importantly, the massage was fantastic! My massage therapist let me pick what scent of oil that I wanted and had this divine hot pillow thing for my neck and a scented cooling cover for my eyes. I almost drifted off to sleep several times. She asked me several times about the pressure and made sure I was comfy the entire time. 7 hours later I still feel totally relaxed.

Additionally, my mom is a hard client to please and she said it was one of the best massages she's ever had. That alone makes this place worth 5 stars.

My boyfriend and I went here this past Sunday for a couples massage and we were both VERY pleased! I had Kelly and he had Nubi (sp?) and both of them did such a tremendous job! It wasn't a super fancy spa where we went into changing rooms and had a relaxation room afterwards, but I would have to say, this massage was way better than the fancy spa massages I have had in the past.  We were very relaxed after the massages and we feel great! Although, we did both agree, a couples massage is a little pointless! ha, we didn't talk and he actually fell asleep during the massage, so next time around I think we would save some money and get individual massages! I would definitely recommend coming here for a massage!!

A friend gave me a Spa Finder gift certificate so I decided to use it here for a 30 minute foot massage. The location, spa space, staff and massage therapist were GREAT!  The massage was great. The only disappointment was the candle smell--it was overwhelming in the waiting area, as well as the bathroom & in the massage room I was in (one near the front). My husband was waiting for me and his asthma was acting up by the time we left. I had a mild headache and could not wait to get some fresh air. Anyway, I thought it was a great spa, but that smell was just too much.

I don't do it often, but when I do I like it rough.  Rough, hard and deep.  I am not shy to ask for what I want, but sometimes people are afraid they will hurt me, and so are way too gentle and I don't get satisfied, and then I am not happy to have wasted my time and money.
Such was not the problem today when I went in for a hot stone massage.  When my massage therapist, Libby, asked me about pressure, I told her not to be afraid to beat me up, that my knots are intense and I need it.  Boy did she listen! I grimaced and groaned a bit but it was awesome, exactly what I needed to make my muscles unclench.  But she also knew exactly when it was time to flip me over, turn down the lights, put on the music, and make the movements soft, languid, and gentle.  A hot neck wrap and a cool eye mask, some scented oils, and it was all I could do not to fall asleep.  I wanted to cry when it was over because I did not want to leave that sanctuary or for that peaceful, relaxed feeling to end.
I walked out into the beautiful, sunny afternoon air with a smile in my face, a spring in my step, and comfort in my mind like I haven't had in a while, already dreaming about when I could return for another go-round.
