I've had the unfortunate experience of ending up in their ER twice, and it was really only because it was close to my apartment.

The first time was a few years ago when I had a terrible upper respitory infection.  I couldn't sleep, and in the middle of the night I was coughing so hard I couldn't breathe.  I had had enough, so off to the ER I went.  It was about 5am, and they pumped me full of fluids and drugs, diagnosed me with bronchitis, and sent me on my merry way.  I vividly remember feeling human again for the first time in days when I left there, until a few hours later when all the drugs wore off.  But they were pretty great - the doctor who helped me was really nice, and I wish I could remember her name so I could praise her properly.

The second time was two summers ago when I sprained my foot pretty badly.  That time was a nightmare.  There were a total of 3 people in the ER at that time, yet it still took them several hours to simply x-ray my foot, wrap it in an ace bandage, and give me crutches.  The male nurse who helped me was great and made learning how to use crutches fun, but the doctor was kind of a jerk.  I ended up having to see a specialist about a week later, and getting a copy of my x-rays was a nightmare.  I finally got them and took them into the specialist, and she said they didn't even take the x-rays at the right angle.  Nice.

I think this hospital is good if you are sick and your doctor is closed and there is no urgent care, but if you're bleeding or injured I'd recommend going elsewhere.

-THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE REDEVOLOPMENT PLAN-
There is a plan to turn this buildings into Market Rate Condo, Senior Housing, Retail and Commercial. There was a meeting on 10/21/09 the first in a series of meetings on the redevolopment. They will reclad this prison looking main building with brick that fits into the Lincoln Park look and are planning to add three stories which is a big topic of debate. They also will put retail taking up the garage's first 2 floors and add rooftop parking. Parking will also be located underneath the building. The small non connected expanisions will be demolished and a single new building on Grant Place will serve as market rate housing. Looks really nice. Would be perfect without the 3 extra floors. The building has new owners co-owned by Geneva Webster LLC and SANDZ Development Co.

I'm not surprised that this place is out of business.

Billed me twice for the same visit. I thought I had it settled, then they billed me again. I needed to get my lawyer involved. Go north to St Josephs, this place blows.

You don't want to get stuck there if something serious happens to you.

That was the rather surprising & blunt statement made by my doctor when he reviewed the hospital affiliation that I had set up under my HMO.  In fact, it was the first thing he mentioned at my last visit to his office, even before he said one word about my general health.  I was rather embarrassed to tell him that I already made a visit to Lincoln Park Hospital after an accident a few years ago, while I don't have any true "horror" stories related to my stay (my condition was not that serious), I do recall that the level of attention & responsiveness was lacking more than a bit - but the hospital food was not too bad.  Given my doctor's strong negative opinion of this place, I will probably follow his advice & switch hospital affiliations, he recommended Illinois Masonic or St. Joseph as good local choices.

My oldest son was born here. We could have gone anywhere, but the idea of only having to walk a couple blocks to get there had some appeal. This turned out to be a "good thing" when my wife's water broke early and we had to get her down there quick. So we were really pleased with the care she got there.

*HOWEVER*

They made some mistake by billing my insuarance company too much for something. No biggie right? Well for THE NEXT THREE YEARS we had these morons and their flunkies calling US, saying we owed that money them, threatening collections, and on, and on, and on. I literally spent hours on the phone, taking tons of notes, sending faxes, complete paper trail, three-way phone calls with our insurance company and them, showing up in person in their office several times and they would always say "no problem, it's fixed now" but it never was.

Needless to say that was the end of our dealings with LPH.

You would think a hospital in this location would be somewhat decent. The exterior looks pretty attractive but looks are sooo deceiving.. If you get stuck in an ambulance and you're at least in a semi-conscious state,  start screaming and kicking in protest if you're heading towards Lincoln Park Hospital. The "horror" stories are true,  you'll get better care at Cook County or Illinois Masonic.

I can't vouch for the rest of the hospital, but the rehab department is top noch! They really care about their patients
