Probably San Antonio's best venue for indepedent music acts. Pretty nice atmosphere -- outdoor seating, air conditioning, and bathrooms don't look like satan's pig pen. Relatively good selection of alcohol.
Pretty good regular DJs on Tuesday nights; aside from when there's a major act in town, this will be the night when the place is packed with the local crowd. I'll disclose that I'm friends wtih the DJs, but honestly, if you like indie music, they're pretty good.
The prices for alcohol are reasonable; the specials change, but typically the drinks are less than $3 for well drinks and beer.
Parkling can be a pain, however, as it doesn't have a proper parking lot. St. Mary's can be crowded, the lot across the street, from what I understand, is private and sometimes they have it cordoned off and the side streets are a bit sketchy. On top of that, it's near Hardbodies, so you get all the batchelorettes and drunk middle aged single women crawling along the sidewalks, which I suppose is entertainment in itself.
On nights when it is crowded it, like most other places, it might be a little difficult getting an order in at the bar.

The draw to this place is, without doubt, the music, especially the bands. It's a small stage so it's a close-up, intimate experience. If you go on a non-band night, you and your friends can choose to sit at a table and play from a variety on boardgames stashed behind the bar, I've even brought my own dominoes. Bonus, the have a Galaga machine!
The bartenders have always been friendly and fast and the booze is cheap.
The picnic tables outside and the people who gather there remind me of my high school smoking area, and in general the crowd tends to be somewhat young (early 20's). The interior is somewhat void of any sort of character but as mentioned before, it's all about the music.
Unfortunately (for me), smoking is also allowed inside and on a crowded night you will leave smelling like you've been in a forest fire hosted by the Marlboro Man.
