When I come back home to Kauai to visit family and friends, the Limahuli Garden and Preserve is one of the first places I go... by myself.

You can either take a guided tour or self guided.  Personally, I prefer the latter.  This place is incredibly special to me and I could spend hours here sitting on one of the many benches perfectly placed throughout the preserve.

I highly... HIGHLY recommend Limahuli Gardens.  So please come and enjoy the beauty of this place.

This is a gorgeous garden & those working to restore & maintain native Hawaiian plants are dedicated to their work.  We took the guided tour ($30 pp) with Nancy & she is so knowledgeable & enthusiastic that you can't help but be impressed.  This lady knows her plants & their history & how it all ties together over the centuries.

This is a don't-miss gem on the north shore.

Drive past Hanalei and cross a wooden bridge, just before you reach the Ke'e beach there will be an entrance towards the mountains for this adorable botanical garden.

This little garden is hidden and can be hard to find, but once you do, get out and enjoy it. It has some of Kauai's remaining native species and fish on display. All of the names are in both English and Hawaiian.

It's a lovely place and it is easy to get caught up in Kauai's amazing beauty. It has quite a bit of Hawaiian history and folklore included into this amazing gem.

Admission: $15 self-guided, $25 guided; free for children 12 and under
Days:   Tuesday through Saturday.
Hours: Self-guided 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Guided 10 a.m.

I came here with my bf and we took a stroll through the gardens. It was beautiful and really cool to be able to see all the native (and non-native) hawaiian plants, as well as learn about some of the history of the island. It's a self guided tour that's $15 a person and if you want a tour it's $25. they provide walking sticks and umbrellas which come in handy bc of the intense sun and sudden rain. they also have some stops with water for you to drink to quench your thirst and head on your way. I saw some cool fruits and veggies, trees and my favorite part were the mountains that stretch to the sea. It's a long hike, about 1 1/2 miles so wear comfortable shoes, lots of sunblock adn bring mosquitoe repellent! Worth seeing if you like flowers and stuff

The garden is located near the end of the road on the Northern side or Kauii.  The vision of the garden is worth supporting:  preserving native Hawaiian/Kauiian vegetation.  The guide book supplied is OUTSTANDING, giving some very important and historical information for each feature.  My personal favorites were the taro terraces (legit old school construction), and the Native Forest Walk (they ripped out all of the invasive species and replanted with native plants...some of which are nearly gone).  It is worth your time, if you are interested in biodiversity, botany, or anthropology!
