Okay I gave this place 4 stars not because it's he best Chinese food I have ever tasted but because they have the best hot and sour soup I have ever tasted! It's soooooo good and so much tofu and veggies in a light delicious broth!

I also frequent their chicken and mixed vegetables in garlic sauce or their vegetables in garlic sauce. I also tried their general Tsos chicken from a friends plate and although I'm never fond of it this places was actually really good and had more chicken than batter!
Their pork dumplings were okay though :/
I'm not a Chinese food connoisseur or anything but I really love their food and suggest you all try it too!

Went here for a get together for Christmas exchange gifts. Had dinner with couple of friends. This place is small but spacious with a nice setting. Everything was tasty but I've tasted better. They have a variety of Asian cuisine from Chinese, Japanese to Thai.

I have purchased a couple of bubble tea drinks from here because i had cravings. Without going to Chinatown i searched up the nearest one near Hunter College and went to to this place. The Taro Bubble tea was okay tasted a bit powdery.

Your better off eating at the cafeteria.

I would come here and have some food if my friends wanted to go. Have been here twice for sushi, which is average to below average. I am ok with mediocre sushi from time to time, but only if I am expecting it. I feel like this place seems like it would have better sushi.

My friends liked their Chinese dishes, but it didn't seem any better than your run of the mill take out places. Not for foodies.

There are lots of awesome looking things in the menu pictures, but they dont have them when you ask for them.

After waiting for 20 minutes for Peking Duck, which my brother, who is a regular, described as quite satisfying, it was brought out ice cold. I was very turned off. On the other hand, sushi here was very good. Stick to the cold entrees and you'll be fine, I guess.
Service was smile-less, mildly attentive and...meh.

I am surprised that the reviews aren't a little higher here. I had the Singapore Chili Shrimp, and Mongolian beef dishes. Both were very tasty, but the Shrimp took the cake. The sauce was spicy and amazing. The Mongolian beef was not spicy at all but the steak that they used was of good quality. The portion size was reasonable. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, but the servers could be a little more friendly.

Let's start off with the food. I forgot what I had but I think it was the Spicy shrimp soup. OMG- that soup was delicious. I'm sorry, but I am a huge Thai food fan and for a Gluten-free Chinese place to have this and master it- MIGHTY impressive. I think some people are expecting something else like a "healthier" fast food type food. It's Gluten-free so don't expect the food to be what you're used to. Quality differs a bit because of this. My friends had other dishes and they were semi-impressed. I chose mine carefully and bam! They did it.

The happy hour drink specials were cool too. Mind you- I missed happy hour by 2 minutes, they still gave me my beers at happy prices. The drinks are strong, the food is good and the atmosphere was nice. The staff however, not the friendliest or inviting but the service was good. I was a little disappointed at the end of the night when they said I didn't sign my receipt and then made me go into a panic after 11 hours of work to only be told I was good. It's a clean place too which is a plus. The service is rather quick.

I was happy with my experience here. Pretty cool looking place too.

Not the best food in the world, but can't find Gluten Free Chinese food anywhere else that matches this so I enjoy it.  Nothing is ever spicy enough and the quality isn't really the best, but I'll keep eating it until there are some more options.

I've eaten there a couple times too and the staff/service has been very friendly and helpful.

Great place to grab and go for breakfast. They have a coffee bar with a wide variety of authentic coffee beans from all across the globe. The bagels are fresh and prepared to your liking with an array of cream cheeses. They have a place to order hot prepared foods such as French Toast, eggs and bacon, and pancakes to name a few. Very speedy, nice, efficient service!

Servers here are not personable, but the food is usually pretty good.  The bubble tea and the thai iced tea are really good and I like that the thai iced tea isn't ridiculously sweet.  My favorite sushi here is the black peppered tuna roll.  I usually get a spicy yellowtail roll as well and normally its really good but the last two times I went it was kind of fishy and orange.

I'll keep coming back.  It's in the neighborhood, it's clean, and I get in and out really fast no matter how busy it is.

Not the best, but not the worse either on this area.  It's one of those place that try probably to hard to be better and somehow it get lost trying.  Generally a decent meal, service and atmosphere.
I think the better part of this place is the large selection of dishes, and friendly service.

As someone who is gluten-free and vegan, this place ranks high with me. Their options were staggering for someone who skips animal products and exquisitely prepared. The flavors were lovely. My one complaint was that the tofu could have been marinated longer or sliced thinner - most pieces still tasted like plain tofu in the middle. The restaurant was quiet for lunch, the service was good, fast and relatively inexpensive for specialty food.

Have ordered delivery from here and have dined in. Service is of a normal pace when dining in, but delivery takes FOREVER. Believe it when they say the wait time is an hour on Seamless.

That being said, the gluten free menu here is extensive and IMO, tastier than the regular menu. The fried pork dumplings - gluten free that is - are sooo good. Portions of the main courses are huge and definitely enough to split amongst 2 people or have plenty for lunch the next day. Prices are average.

The sushi here didn't look amazing, but I've never tried it, so I suppose that's just speculation. I would stick with the Chinese type fare over the sushi.

I don't think the specialty drinks are worth ordering. Our waitress had no idea what I was asking for, even though the singapore sling was listed right on the drink menu. It was not well made and pretty small for the price. Stick to beer, wine or common liquor drinks.

All in all, good if you're in the neighborhood - especially for gluten free food seekers - but not worth making a special trip for otherwise.

    Nom nom nom nom nom!

Great atmosphere and decor. Staff is friendly and eager to serve.

Their cold sesame noodles are to die for, SO good. Also its a HUGE portion so be weary of ordering this with an entree. Egg rolls were great and were plated with great presentation. I had the Mee Geong (sp?) noodle dish which was very tasty, although I would have preferred it spicier.

    Will def. return!

Meh. I keep going here because it's the only Asian place my white coworkers like, haha, and we have to go somewhere for Chinese New Year lunch! I like the Thai noodles ok (mee goreng) but I had a more Chinese-style dish last time (the chicken with vegetables) and it was pretty awful. I just tasted my coworker's tofu and vegetables, and the sauce was actually kind of tasty. I think it's about all one can expect from a pan-Asian place that doesn't really commit to any one cuisine, so whatever. Gluten-free menu is a plus if you've got a gluten-free person with you. They also have some vegetarian choices that work. I would never go here on my own, but I don't mind going when others drag me.

The service is usually pretty good though, and I like the two-for-one bubble teas at lunch!

A friend and I decided to head here after seeing the Frick nearby. The prices are moderate and we aimed for the bento box lunch special which comes with a soup(choice of miso or egg drop), salad, shrimp dumpling, california roll and choice of white/brown rice.

I ordered the Thai Basil Chicken which was about $11.50. The miso soup was pretty standard as was the california rolls and salad. I liked the shrimp dumpling and the thai basil chicken dish which was spicy/hot and delicious! (albeit having to drink a lot of water).

It's a pretty good place to eat out if you're stuck and the portions are enough to stuff anyone! I had to take some of it to go.

Came here for lunch last Tuesday. I ordered the spicy tofu with peanuts off the gluten free menu. It had a funky taste (not really any particular taste) and it had zero spice. The peanuts were not crushed, they were just tossed whole all over the dish and the chunks of tofu were huge and overcooked. It was pretty awful.

The service was okay. The price was not on par for what I was served.

I don't like to write reviews the first time I go to a place, but it hit the basics for me on all cylinders.

Staff: friendly,  yet they let You eat in peace.

Ambiance: nice finishes, double high cielings,  good low music and not at all over crowded.

Food: hot and sour soup was flavorful and not over thickened.  Tasted very fresh.   The general tsos was a mix of tofu and chicken,  crispy with a tangy sauce and perfectly cooked broccoli not drenched in sauce. Brown rice well cooked.

The food came fast, place was preset with chopsticks and I cleaned my plate.

    Thoroughly enjoyed!

My account is becoming increasingly dedicated to Thai restaurant slander. But I'm OK with that. When I finally find a great one (Queens?), it will be a moment of glory.

One star is for catering to the gluten-free population, and for delivering more rapidly than expected.

However, I think that this establishment is secretly attempting to weed out the aforementioned population by serving them truly vile food. I had the pad thai with shrimp, which is usually made with rice noodles (so I shouldn't have been quite as excited to try the GF version as I was, but...) and it was greasy nastiness - and not in a good way.

The lunch special side salad wasn't in the bag, and the boba tea was shipped with a skinny straw, leaving me with what amounts to a $4.25 cup of iced tea.

    Ew.

Best Gluten free asian food ever!!!!!

They do have a full gluten free menu, so much  to choose from! Which is amazing!!!!!

They have gf shrimp tempura roll too and so many delicious gf asian dishes! and gf soya sauce!

The only thing i can complain about is their gluten free general tsao chicken, i mainly  order it each time i go there and my complaint is that its not consistent.
As sometime the general tao taste like its not fresh, meaning the batter is dry and extremely crunchy and it taste as if it has been fried many times...
and at other times it tastes super fresh and you can use a fork to split or cut the general tsao ball in half with no effort, thats when you know  its fresh!

hope they read this review!!!! is but theres room for improvement!

I haven't found anything here that I don't like yet.
Since I work close by, my favorite is the almond milk bubble tea in the summer time.
Love their singapore noodles - best asian fusion place to get it from.
Decor is lovely and great for small dates.

My first time going to Lilli and Loo and I chose it because it offers a gluten free menu (in addition to their full menu) and the location (near the 59th st. bridge). It was very exciting to see how tremendous their gluten free menu was, when so many other places offer a fraction of their menu to GF diners.
I chose the boneless spareribs (yummy!) and the sesame shrimp. Shrimp was a nice size portion, a little gloppy, but lots of shrimp and lots of flavor.
My friend ordered off the regular menu, having the corn/egg soup and the chow fun and she eat every morsel.
In full disclosure, I left with a stomach ache. But that may have been because I ate it all, and I'd do it again.

Up until my last visit there I would have given them a great review. However, on my last visit I ordered (as always) from the gluten free menu. Everything looked and tasted fine but I was violently ill that evening - the kind of ill that anyone with celiac disease knows only comes from eating gluten. Since I hadn't eaten anything else that day that wasn't made from scratch at home, their restaurant is the only place it could have come from. I sent them an email with details of what happened - believing that it was probably one thoughtless employee not a general lack of care from the whole restaurant  - but they haven't even bothered to respond. Won't be going back there!

They also have a full gluten free menu and the general tsao is still crunchy, even when gluten free.

The standard brown sauce is spicier than most places which I like.

Delivery is quick. Slightly expensive but everything is in the area. Lunch specials are excellent.

I always passed by Lilli and Loo's on my way to the F train & one day intrigued enough by the nice modern decor. outside I decided to try out their lunch specials with my cousin.

We were seated on the ground floor which is kinda small but there is upstairs seating as well which they put no one in while I was there. The menu was a odd mixture of random Asian cuisine which means that they should be categorized under Asian fusion. I saw some pad thai, sushi, fried rice & kalbi.

We started off with the Roti Canai ($6.25) & it came out pretty quick with generous portions. The "Indian flatbread" was really soft, thick & chewy without any crispiness what-so-ever. The sauce was done all wrong, it was not curry & instead some kind of churned up tasteless potato yellow food coloring thing. Complete disappointment, how can you mess up Roti Canai?

Next I had the Tempura Bento ($11.95) which starts you off with a soup & salad. The soup was okay as Miso soup is in every spot but the salad was terrible. It was kind of as if they took all the flavorless stems of iceberg lettuce & threw them into my bowl without cutting than put some gingler-less ginger dressing on the side.

Finally after what was about 25 mins of playing with the nasty appetizers, my actual bento box came. The shumai was obviously microwaved & the half California roll was made before as I could taste the too cold refrigerator it was stored in. My shrimp/vegetable tempura was dipped in an incorrect batter which caused it to come out with broils on the tempura as opposed to it being beautifully flaky. The vegetable pieces for also to big to be used for tempura causing it to taste mushy as opposed to firm/crunchy.

With all the random cuisines they make it seemed they do not have a specialty which they are actually decent at. I noticed them making a Thai Iced Tea wrong too, using half-and-half as opposed to evaporated milk (WTF?). The wait staff were friendly in that I'm-slow-and-too-stupid-to-know-when-to-give-you-y our-entrees way. I also noticed they place a lot of their bowls on top of a paper doily when they give them to you, kinda random seeing how I'm not at grandmas.

I would not recommend this place or ever even come back.

Far from out of the ordinary I stopped here for lunch instead of my normal sushi place a few stores down. Ordered the maki hand rolls which came in salmon, yellowtail, and unagi along with the chicken satay. My meal came with a salad and the lettuce was bitter and not worth finishing and the carrot ginger sauce was too tart and too much.

The chicken satay was alright although it came with a bowl of peanut sauce which was obviously lovingly nuked in the microwave with the proud crusty ass ring around the sides to prove it. (but I still ate from it I mean it IS peanut sauce).

The hand rolls were nothing spectacular and the unagi one was actually not good at all so I didn't finish it. I tried some of Armin L's spicy tuna which wasn't too bad but didn't quite hit the nail on the head.

The staff was okaaay in the way that they don't really pay too much attention resulting in us waiting entirely too long for our paycheck.

The star is for the ambiance which is nicer than that of my normal spot, but really all you need to keep me coming back is good food.

The highlight of the lunch was the two people sitting next to us who could have possibly been on a date. This Indian english girl with this American typical yuppie business guy. the convo was also sprinkled with crazy ex stories and the concept of marriage. Her loud english accent prevented me from taking the time out to have my own conversation so you can enjoy theirs

..here are some of my favorites

Girl moment 1: "I can't live alone yeah..like I just watched this movie Strangers and the other night I had to phone up my friend when I got up in the middle of the night to use the toilet"

Guy moment 1: No this wasn't one of my most expensive meals DON'T GET ME WRONG THIS ISN'T CHEAP!! but not my most expensive

Girl moment 2: God you live in Manhattan you must be SO RICH
Guy: ::sigh:: I made some great choices in life

Well, as a half Chinese person, naturally I'm going to be a little harsh.  But being that we're stranded from Flushing on the weekends these days, and Chinatown closes at 5pm, Lilli and Loo serves its purpose- quasi authentic Chinese food (of course, quasi- it's uptown! ) .  It has enough nonspicy options, and is a big a step up from take-out.  (especially decor wise, though it's drowned in cheesy red and dragon silhouettes)  I do appreciate Lilli and Loo for their a good job of getting tasty food, but not  making it greasy.  I think the fact that they have a gluten free menu open many doors for people who normally steer clear from the delightful flavors of Asian cuisine.

To note, their menu is really more pan-Asian.  As mentioned the Saigon Rolls are good-- healthy, albeit have jicama in it-- where did THAT come from?  I ordered their tofu-spinach soup-- again a weird concoction of blended Chinese/American elements.  It wasn't bad-- I have to admit it's an Americanized joint so I wasn't going to expect bok choy and tofu soup.  The soup wasn't bad, it was super healthy and a good price at $2.50 for a decently bigger sized soup.   Normal New York prices for a soup of its size would have shot way up-- but I didn't like how the tofu wasn't that soft, and everything was cut in big chunks.  I know that sounds weird, but I imagine Chinese to be better mixed together and the ingredients in most of Lilly and Loo's items are very separate in nature.   To also note, everything thing is bigger in portion (i.e. the dumplings are massive).

I also tried the Tom Yum Noodle Soup-- you can choose which kind of noodles you want to have with you soup, and I appreciated the fact that there is  a good variety of noodle choices.  You've got udon, egg,  "cellophane" which I attest to be ricesticks (think Pho) and one other one- I forgot.  The broth was really authentic and tasted like good old, sour Tom Yum soup.  Some of the veggie choice, was weird-- there was okra in my soup, but ehh, whatever.  I still ate it- like I said, its hard to compare this to an authentic "purist" Asian place.   I was, however, pleasantly surprised when I asked for chili sauce and they gave me homemade chili oil, crushed with the flakes and Sriacha sauce.

It's a good stopover in you're in the area (I work nearby), or for take out- but if you are a true lover of Asian food, you'll hate it here.

Ordered some of the Gluten Free Chicken Satays last week.  Took 45+ minutes to arrive and was cold when it got here.

Of the 4 satays I got nasty bits in 3 of them.

May try the gluten free dumplings sometime but will not get any other meat dishes.

As I work nearby and they do deliver (only a $7 minimum for delivery), I decided to try it as a co-worker recommend it.  Besides, we had pizza at the cafeteria for lunch and I felt having a little bit more substantial than that.

When I called, I had to keep repeating my order as the very thick accent phone attendant could not understand me.

I ordered the Saigon Roll appetizers described as a vegan delight, wrapped in rice paper, stuffed with cool cucumber, jicama, avocado, mango, soba, herbs, nori, spicy mint dip, not fried -- two for $6.75.  For the main course I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki rice bowl for $12.95.  The grand total with taxes for the entire order was $21.95 which included a choice of soup or salad.

The Saigon Rolls were tasteless. I kept trying to find the 'spices' and avocado promised in the menu.  The appetizer had no flavor whatsoever and it was mostly filled with iceberg lettuce, a few pieces of mango, a little piece of cucumber and the sauce was very watery and runny.  I've been to Vietnam, and I know what the rolls should taste like.  This one was one of the worst!

As for the Salmon Rice Bowl, all I have to say is that there is nothing worst than an overcooked piece of salmon that is hard to bite into, chewy and cold -- which was the case on my rice bowl.  In fact, I had to stick the rice bowl in the microwave to re-heat it; which means that the food was pre-cooked.  I've had bad salmon before, but this one topped all of the other ones -- too chewy, too overcooked and too nasty to eat it.

As for the salad, it was a handful of iceberg lettuce with a dressing on the side.  Not even a piece of tomato!

Needless to say, I do not recommend Lilli and Loo.  I should have saved the $20 and eat the pizza we had at the cafeteria.  It would have tasted better and would have been more enjoyable than spending my money in crappy food.

The only good part is that you can order online and delivery time was quicker than expected.

    The final Verdict:

Phone Attendant Efficiency:  2.0 out of 5.0

Phone Attendant Friendliness:  2.0 out of 5.0

Delivery Time:  4.0 out of 5.0

Food Taste:  0.0 out of 5.0

Overall Price Value:  0.0 out of 5.0

    Final Score/Grade:  8 out of 25  (32% out of 100% - F Grade)

Final Comment:  Panda Express is better tasting than this place.  Don't waste your money here.  Go somewhere else.

Actually, I when i have a moment I may post my review for Lilli & Loo near Bloomingdales on 59th...it was a totally mindless, random walk-by lunch this past Friday...I was in the mood for chinese food after i dropped an AMEX bomb on Bloomies (a store I hate with a passion)...and the thai basil chicken was actually pretty good. It's one of those places that you do once and likely never go again...

The more interesting question is what badness did you do at Bloomies? (I never go to the one uptown... and soho only in cases of fashion or cosmetic duress...) But as I recall you were the one who started the string of debauchery with some sort of Jack Spade bag.

LOL...yes it all began with a Jack Spade bag (which I use all the time when I travel)...and I always shop for stuff downtown...I really can't explain why I did it...seriously...I just stepped on the F train and took it two stops...got off...walked into Bloomies (all zombie-like)...went to the men's store...saw a blue armani v-neck sweater...bought it...ran out screaming in agony down lexington...did a side glance and saw a cute, stylish woman eating by herself in lilli & loos...thought if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me...and I normally will never go into a restaurant that says "Chinese, Asian Cuisine & Sushi Bar"...it tells me that they are a master at nothing. But, I was pleasantly surprised...

Well, I guess it is good that you use it. Hope the sweater
comes in handy. I am having a small wardrobe crisis these days... I have realized that my largely bought during college wardrobe (and yeah... that is a VERY LONG time ago) which was during the grunge era (plaid, flannel, 20 sizes too big) is not really cutting it. I have to do something about that. Oh well. At least it did not say "Chinese, Asian, Sushi and Burrito's" That is definitely not a good sign.
    well... good luck with work.

Great gluten free asian food. So I usually go to the lili's of 57th but this place has a much more robust gluten free menu.  I know a lot of yelpers are giving it very few stars but I'm really just reviewing based on gluten free options, not how good it is compared to other Asian restaurants...since there really aren't other gluten free Asian restaurants.

So many options, so little time.

Another thing to note, they have happy hour from 5-7 (could actually be 4) and house wines, beers, and drinks are $5.

I most likely would never have ended up here unless the friend I hung out with my first night in New York hadn't agreed to meet up with his banker apartment-mate for a second dinner (we had just eaten Korean Fried Chicken in KTown). The poor guy was taking the final meal break in his 12-hour workday, only to return to work when we were done.

[But really, I don't pity him--at 22, he makes about six times what I do and has only had 3 days off since July. Nope, don't pity him at all!]

Anyway, this place was a cute surprise. Feeling quite the VIP in the sleek upstairs floor of this Asian Fusion restaurant, I wasn't surprised when I ordered a bubble drink (which you might call boba, pearl tea, or perhaps tapioca drink) and it came served in a malt glass. I didn't actually eat, but the food seemed decent, the prices even more so. While the guys chatted up their business jargon (*yawn*), I admired the jazz playing in the background and the colorful, chicly designed interior of the place. Even the bathroom had its own speakers... because who DOESN'T love a little Norah Jones while you're taking a pee??

[By the end of my trip I realized that swanky restrooms with deep metal sinks and fancy faucets seem to be a common occurrence in Manhattan restaurants.]

If I lived in this area, I'd most likely frequent Lilli and Loo, because Asian food rules. However, the likelihood of me living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan anytime in the near future... or any future, for that matter... is slim to none. For now, I'm content with my beloved NOPA, and its own surrounding swanky fusion joints.

I thought there was an international treaty signed by faux-sushi places that a Rock 'n' Roll is barbeque eel and avocado, but it isn't that here. It was salmon and tuna with crunchy tempura bits. This was alright, except there was still a bone in the fish.

This place serves Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, etc, and doesn't do any of them particularly well. The Saigon Rolls were 90% lettuce. I had hoped the Oriental Dumplings were going to be har gow or sui mai or something, but they weren't: just overly thick skins and very plain fillings.

Gorgeous interior, but that's about all that's worth saying. A solid "meh."

Lilli and Loo has good bubble tea and one of the only places that delivers it too! Unfortunately I think this is the only good thing they have.

    Dry Sautéed String Beans
    Pad Thai Noodles
    Pom-Teriyaki Chicken

Ive had a few other dishes but i cant remember. I felt everything lacked flavor but was VERY plentiful. They did NOT skimp on quantity at all which i thought was a plus but the food lacked taste. The pad thai noodles were VERY bland and dry , but was almost a LB of pad thai noodles.

The string beans were extremely oily and bland but that too was extremely plentiful.

Decent bubble tea place and MASS quantities of food but def not a place where you want to enjoy your food.

Moderately priced, somewhat delicious asian food! Yay!

Although there is nothing particularly special about Lilli and Loo, it is great if you're looking to sit in an asian-chic dining room next to 5 billion tourists. The veggie dumplings are TO DIE FOR. They are more than enough to keep me coming back!

The manly lesbian that always works the front counter is a riot! You'll love her!
