There are several reasons I gave lille a FIVE STAR RATING! First and foremost, the customer service is really as good as it gets. Sarah, the owner, has assisted me (tirelessly) on several occasions. I spent about an hour and a half trying on at least thirty different pieces in her store. She did this knowing I am a poor student, and completely dependent on my significant other to buy me nice things! We set up a wish list and when my boyfriend did come to the store (almost a month later) she remembered me by name! The second reason I gave lille five stars is simply due to the quality and uniqueness of the merchandise. Sarah has items you won't find anywhere else in Portland, and some of the pieces are one-of-a-kind.
So, ladies, if you need a boost, treat yourself to something beautiful, or send your lover after making your wishlist. Be careful though, once you start shopping at lille you may go to drastic budgeting measures to continue the thrill! ;0)
The first time I went into Lille Boutique was during Snowpacalypse '08; the snowstorm that ruined xmas for many BUT NOT MINE. One of the reasons it was not ruined was because the gal at Lille Boutique was very helpful and sent me home with sexy underthings for my then-girlfriend, now-wife.
Let me set this up a bit: I was walking home from work, which was 4 miles away. East Burnside was under 14" of snow and ice, cars, buses, and bikes were not an option. I was wearing ill-fitting snow boots and my cycling rain pants, it was December 22 or 23. I had read an advertisement on the Portland Mercury and had gone in hoping to find last minute stocking stuffer stockings. I was invited in, the shop was warm (I would guess perfect temperature for try-on), I was able to take my jacket and scarf off and rest on the couch. Because the service was so awesome, I left with a multiple pairs of socks and a couple pairs of undies. When the saleslady asked my girl's size and I said about this tall (motion with hand, chin height) and this big around (motion with hands, smaller than my hips). After those rudimentary instructions, she gave me some great recommendations and we were satisfied with the result. I never thought I would have the chance say that I was satisfied with a purchase of something with "Princess Tam Tam" written on it.
This last August I got married and my wife bought things at Lille.
If you have someone you want to see wearing the things that Lille sells and you are reading this review, send them there. Highest Recommendations.
Lille is my newest vice. I have spent my fair share (and The Big Man's) on lovely underpinnings before, but not quite as enjoyable as this visit to this delicious shop. For those on a budget, I have to say that good quality that lasts & lasts trumps poorer quality which will require further expenditure down the road. To shop here (and remain on your budget), you need to re-think consumer mentality. It's QUALITY vs. QUANTITY, and I'll take quality any day.
The owner is extremely knowledgeable and helpful...bringing in various sizes in different brands which may vary. It's like the new sizing where you've lived your whole life wearing a size 6, then with the vanity sizing, all of a sudden, poof! - you're a size 2! I digress...but let's just say that sometimes the vanity sizing can work in the opposite direction too! The owner knows how to get things put into proper place with support given all 'round...
Not going to lie...the prices for the goods are steep, and with that said, the quality, fabrics, fit are absolutely perfect. The shop itself is delightful, not prissy. There are modern as well as Victorian touches, lots of French references, terrific, atmospheric music...it all adds up to an evocative package. Whether you buy things here for yourself or for the enjoyment of someone else, this spot is highly recommended and swooned over by yours truly.
the most beautiful, elegant, finely-crafted unmentionables i've seen outside of the 14th arrondissement. you pay for the quality, but there are also $6 basics. loved the owner.
Lille rocks my socks (I mean my hot looking underwear) off. I went here in July while on a trip with one of my best friends--we found it on a random stroll down Burnside and decided to pop in for a look. A lot of the lingerie in here is quite pricey, but you can snag some sweet deals on sale. I saved about 60% on a set that would likely have a higher price per square inch than glass bubble tile from the Home Depot Expo Center, just based on the fact that there weren't very many square inches to go around. The Scarlett Johansson underwear from Lost in Translation (but in greenish-blue) were quite tempting as well, but not on a teacher budget :(
Sarah, the owner, is uberhelpful and competent. Her sense for what will flatter customers, genial manner in the face of customers who wail in the dressing room about various body flaws or try on half of the store, and friendliness have made me a loyal fan. She even emails you if some of your items of interest come into stock (i.e., that Araks Scarlett Johansson-esque set just came in today, so she emailed me--hence my inspiration to review). If only Lille weren't on the other side of the country!
Wow ladies this place is SWEET! Got boobs? Got the need to feel awesome under your clothes? Well get in here and spend some green on the damn prettiest underthings made of the for-the-love-of-god softest most luxurious fabrics known to underpants. they have cheeky, vintage inspired stuff, sweet and luscious organics and silks, and really concentrate on organic and natural fibers, which is awesome for a greenie like me.
The sales gals are so nice and not pushy and help you fit your, ahem, ladies, into the right size bra. and they have those hot little panties that seam up the back, that like, um, lift and separate? you know what i mean. HOT. Its holiday time, and just cause its winter doesnt mean panty neglect. Slide yourself into an expensive bra and panty set and make yourself ( and your other) squeal with delight.
Odd location, but don't let that dissuade you. Inside you'll find cool vintage decor and high-end lingerie ... with high prices to match. I parked in front of Lille when we were headed across the street to Hippo Hardware and managed to drag the boyfriend in with me for a quick look. Beautiful lingerie that isn't too overdone. The boyfriend offered to buy me something but turned green at the first look at a price tag. So, this is the place to come when you really want to splurge on some pretty underthings.
Love this shop -- went while I was vacationing there in the fall. As others have said, the service is great, and yet it's pricey. But, I wasn't made to feel uncomfortable when I mentioned that it was out of my range. The owner logged my preferred styles/sizes, and when I was feeling a little more flush post-vacation, helped me out via e-mail to complete my purchase. I've also been spending some time on the website, which is AWESOME. Love browsing for pretty things to pamper myself with...even if I can't make it back into Lille itself.
