Under Cabinet Lighting Project:
- Brett is the best. Stopped by to take the initial measurements and provide suggestions regarding not only what I thought I wanted, but also, what would make the overall finished product successful.
1. Florescent under cabinet lights
2. Incandescent center ceiling light
3. Recessed incandescent lights framing the center ceiling light
4. Remote switching for the newly installed and remoting of an existing center
ceiling switch for convenience
- workers Shad and (sorry, can't remember the other guys name) were also great. Quick install, cleaned up after themselves, leaving a neat work area. -
Review from Jay F.
We enjoyed working with Brett and think he did a great job installing lighting in multiple rooms in our condo. He was professional and left the place immaculate. Also what was incredible helpful was his taste for design and recommendations.
Only downside is that we had some trouble working with Brett in the beginning. It was nothing substantive relating to lighting, but more logistical. Wife and I work long hours during the week and often on weekends and are often times called away on short notice. When we don't have jobs that regularly get us home during normal hours it was difficult to find times to meet and on the weekends when we had windows in between calls there were some issues with tardiness. That said, once Brett understood these constraints and that we weren't just being jerks he worked around our schedules. Probably our fault for not setting expectations and being more demanding in the beginning.
We'd recommend Brett to anyone who needs lighting work. With the benefit of some communication about expectations, he really does a great job and is a pleasure to work with. -

Plain and simple, Brett Bryant knows lights.
He's amiable and very easy to talk to.
He will get the job done and even go into details as to how light bounces off of paint and curtains...
how that will affect your room's quality of light.
Hire this guy for your lighting needs. -

I started to do put in an extra strip light in my garage and blew a fuse. Decided it was time to call a professional.
I called Brett on the back of his Yelp reviews. He was prompt (arrived within 3hrs), courteous and forthcoming in what needed to be done. He also gave me some advice on where I went wrong. Though he didn't have the gear in his van to do the work right away, a guy would come by the following day and carry out the work. His price - $25 for the initial visit, $125 an hour for the work to be done, plus some electrical items needed. Brett assured me it could be done within an hour, so I assumed a $150 - $200 fee. So I was Ok for him to proceed.
When an invoice for $330 arrived I was shocked!
Apparently it took the other guy longer and was more complex (though the finished job was a length of 3' conduit from a nearby switch). I complained and Brett reduced the invoice to $260, which was good of him, but it's still high for what was done.
He's good, but expensive. As Brett told me - check out YouTube and see what you can do yourself if you are up to it. That's good advice!
Either that or agree a guaranteed maximum price before he, or someone he sends starts. As the other reviewer put it, my garage is lighter, but so is my wallet.
Sadly won't use him again... -
Review from Euge L.
ive worked my entire life around contractors.
im the first one to say there are a lot of really bad contractors out there. you have the fly by nights that quote you the cheapest possible prices, then a month later when things go wrong, they change their cell phone numbers and youre sol.
my first advise to people is DO NOT base your decision solely on price. of course price is an important aspect of any project, but it shouldnt be the reason why you choose one contractor over another.
i always tell people, figure out a budget range and find the contractor you are the most comfortable with, the one you trust the most within that budget.....
of course i never follow my own advise... when asked whats your budget, im like whats a budget.... i need to follow my own advise... my own advise i DO follow is finding a contractor you feel comfortable working with.
we really needed to upgrade our lighting situation. you can only go so long with cfls and costco floor lamps. there comes a time when you need to get some grown up lighting.
i got some grown up furniture... finally (read no more milk crates) aka the better half put her foot down and said im not living in a dorm room.
its time for some grown up lighting.
other than the "no limit no budget" lighting project my obviously much more financially successful older sister asked me to take care of in her mcmansion a decade or so ago, ive never took on a lighting project.
brett doesnt make you feel like a deer in headlights. he covers the bases without too much detail to get lost in. he explains things pretty simply and without making you feel like youre a dumbass for not knowing some technical information. he described the look and feel the lights were going to create, something thats important because if you are like me, you get lost in other details and dont focus on the important one. i was trying to focus on the technical side of things, i forgot the most important detail... how things will look all lit up!
we have yet to sign any bids and obviously, none of the work we called him for have yet to be completed, but if someone that lives and works around contractors his whole life feels the need to share an experience, its something to take note of. -

I've been working with Brett on a professional level for almost 4 years now. NEVER had a problem ONCE with him. Bills paid on time, projects spec'd properly- very loyal with a lot of integrity. I have recommended him to customer upon customer and have never once heard a complaint.
He is a pleasure to work with. -

I called Brett to help me with putting up my dining ceiling light.
He was courteous, funny and very helpful. He advised me for the best way to put the lights up, and gave me insight on the best placement in the room. His quote was reasonable, and he stuck to it. He even spent some time helping me set up the lights.
Thumbs up! -

Brett is a really thorough, courteous, and professional electrician.
He came by my house today to fix a failed power outlet, and as he did the work, he described to me nuances of the dimmers installed in my apartment and mentioned some things I should be careful about. He had a matching replacement wall switch in his truck already (he described it as having a Noah's Ark of fixtures with him at all times), and he also fixed up a frayed wire on one of my lamps at no additional cost.
Top-notch experience overall, so I'll be going back to Brett the next time I need an electrician too. -

Brett is excellent every step of the way. 1)Great aesthetic design sense in advising you what fixtures would look best. 2)Budget focused--proposed a solution to light our stairway that saved us $1,000 vs. our original plan. 3)His installation team did very clean work and were very courteous in our house. I would highly recommend Brett.

Used him on the strength of the below reviews, but his price for 10 minutes of work to replace a ballast in a flourencent light fixture in my kitchen was $155!!! The below reviewer got a rate of $85 for just under an hour's work. Interesting.
Anyway, my light works. And my wallet is lighter. -

Brett is all the things you'd ever want in an Electrician! I refer him to all of my clients and I have had nothing but positive, glowing remarks about him and his stellar work. I HIGHLY recommend him!! I'd give him six stars if it were possible, on a really exceptional day where he makes the impossible possible for one of my clients in need.
Brett charges based on the going rate for licensed Electricians in San Francisco and as far as I am concerned he earns it. He is very flexible with his schedule, he follows up with his jobs, and he always makes sure the job is completed to the satisfaction of his clientele. It's important to note that these qualities are few and far between-there are a LOT of Electricians that won't bother to call you back if you want a light bulb changed or a ballast changed out. Brett does it all from a whole house re-model to small jobs that require his attention. You pay for knowledgeable service and you get what you pay for. He may talk fast and get so technical that your eyes cross but I promise that if you ask him to slow down and explain, he will.
I appreciate that he's extremely personable and does his best to accommodate his clients, I get rave reviews all the time. And YES, he's super well educated but he never boasts- yeah, he went to Colombia...but whatever he's just a down to earth guy! Of all the clients I have ever referred to him I have NEVER had negative feedback that had anything to do with his ability to do the job and do it well.
Brett Bryant is a true professional and one of the nicest people I've ever met.Listed in: The Best & The Brightest

I hired a Handyman to come in and put dimmers in four rooms of my house. He said no problem; then he gets to my place and says he can only do dimmers on lights that have 1 switch--WTF. I stopping F'in around and found an electrician on Yelp.
Brett came to the rescue. He came in with the right dimmers--much nicer quality than the one the "HandyMan" had installed, so I had him replace that one too. His price per hour was competitive and he does not mess around. Brett was totally efficient and friendly, and I will use him again. -

Brett is as good as they come! He's extremely professional, prompt, and knows his stuff.
We set up an appt. for 2pm on Friday. He calls 15 mins before to say he's on his way. He shows up on time, and quickly dives into my 2 way switch problem. After some search and seek, he informs me that my problem is a detached/worn out wire (the second he's seen in 7 yrs). He gives me 2 options to consider, all with total candor and honesty.
I choose the less expensive option, and Brett even helps me navigate to a website to purchase the fixtures that I need. He's coming back when the materials arrive and installing them for me. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to the return visit.
5 stars in my book!! (And I'm a tough customer to please!!) -

It can be a daunting task finding someone to do household repairs. All of the recommendations I had previously received got me nowhere because the job at hand (fixing a ceiling fan and light in the bedroom) was too small for the electrician to even consider.
I got Brett's number through a fellow Yelper who had not yet used his services. In any case, he was available and got back to me right away to set up an appointment. He arrived on time and even called to let us know when he was on his way. He was able to fix our ceiling fan & light within the hour and replaced our switch - all for $87.
I recently called Brett for another job which he called to tell me he was running a little late. He ended up being even later than what he initially told me, but it wasn't a huge deal and he did a good, efficient job of replacing our ceiling fan in the bathroom and garbage disposal switch.
If you are looking for an electrician, give him a try! -

Brett is terrific. We've used him for years, and he is always prompt, courteous, and most important, extremely good at what he does. Most recently, we had what we thought was a dead electrical line in the house. Brett was scheduled to come by but gave us some suggestions in the interim on how we might be able to fix it ourselves. Sure enough, his advice was pure gold, and we ended up fixing the line and not needing Brett to come by at all.
Houses age, along with all the components inside them. Just be glad that when they do, you have someone as gifted and pleasant as Brett to repair or replace them. -

I've used Brett on a couple of projects now and he is great.
He helped me with some outdoor fixtures and helped me install a new outlet downstairs. Both times, he walked through everything with me and answered all of my questions.
Brett's quotes are honest and reasonable, and an extra plus for being close in Glen Park. 5 Stars for sure! -

Brett returned my initial call in less than 15 minutes, and was able to work on the project the same day! Worked it in to his schedule, and came up here to Diamond Heights within 2 hours. The garage and entry hall lights, switches, needed replacing.took him under an hour, and all is well now, and I can see when entering down the stairs into the garage without tripping !! Additionally, Brett is very personable.

Wow! This guy is good. I needed some track lighting put up and he was able to give me a estimate over the phone and figure out what it was I was looking for in our first conversation. When he did the work for me, he had everything I needed (without ever seeing the space) and it took him just about an hour. He clearly knows what he's doing. He's friendly, easy going, and professional.

I called Brett based on the Yelp reviews and he was professional, punctual, personable and quickly fixed three broken light sockets in our kitchen. Since he completed the orginial job so quickly, he looked for other things he could fix in our home since he charges $100/hour -- whether he stays 10 minutes or 60 minutes. He found a modern halogen light that was out in our hallway that I thought only needed a new lightbulb. He spotted some dark marks on the wiring and went to investigate. Brett spent 30 minutes trying to fix this light (it wasn't the lightbulb!). He didn't quite figure out was wrong -- but I appreciated his work ethic and would call him again for other jobs.
Please note that Brett has recently increased his rate to $125/hour which is comparable to what other top electricians charge. -

Brett is an outstanding, reliable, easy-to-work-with electrician, lighting designer, and contractor.
He and a helper did about 3 days of work in our place in '07. He helped us with lighting and electrical design for our kitchen, dining room, and den, installed about 20 recessed lights, new receptacles, new CA-TV hook-ups, and provided references to other contractors who could do economical and high-quality drywall patch and paint.
Brett was responsive, courteous, went out of his way to provide good advice, flexible, and honest about the types of work he could do for us and the types of work he did not specialize in. If you're going to spend 3 days covered in drywall dust with any electrician, Brett is your guy (affable and good-humored, etc.).
He did high-quality work.... No really: we get oohs and ahs from friends and even other contractors who come in to see what kind of work Brett did in our place, or look at our lighting to see whether it was original.
Brett shows up on time, communicates effectively, and, wait, Brett plain actually shows up!? I don't know how many licensed electricians you have hired in SF, but finding a highly capable one who is willing to take small (and larger) jobs with a smile in this city is a real achievement.
I respect everyone's reviews... but I'd discount the comments I read about pricing ("$100 for 10 minutes of work"). Call 3 licensed electricians and see what they charge... or whether they'll even return your call about a job for 10 minutes of work. -

I give Brett 5 stars. No need to go into a long story but what really pleased me was Brett's attention to detail, he did everything in a careful and precise manner, and cleaned up after the job. His professional but easygoing manner was much appreciated. We also did not have to wait more than a few days for an appointment. Highly recommended.

One of our wall sconce lights went out and it looked like it just needed a new halogen bulb. After only two tries, I got the right length and we put it in. But it still didn't work. We shook it a little but nothing happened. My partner didn't want to get electrocuted and said we needed to find an electrician.
Now in the past, we've been lazy and left such issue unresolved for months at a time. I didn't want half a light in that room so I looked up electricians in San Francisco and found Brett's yelp listing. Looked good, called him, and he came by that same afternoon. Very easy going guy and he was also helpful in identifying other potential electrical-improvements in our house. We've been trying to find an electrician that we could trust for awhile for such smallish projects, and Brett seems to be a match.
(And the issue with our wall sconce light was just that the "new" bulb was bad. It won't work when the little metal thingy wiggles when you shake it. Had we tried inserting the 2nd new bulb that I thoughtfully purchased at the same time, we would've saved a visit from Brett. But then I wouldn't know what to get to replace our kitchen under-counter lights and justify another future visit from Brett.) -

I needed the lighting mechanism repaired in my dining room. I called Brett and he was at the house within 25 minutes. That's service! Sure enough, he had all the necessary parts on hand and made the repair in short time. He's extremely responsive (obviously), professional, friendly, and a really cool guy. I'll definitely be calling Brett for future work. A+

Brett is simply one great electrician, reliable, competent, capable, thoughtful and intelligent. You'll have to get used to the idea that your electrician has the build of a linebacker and a degree from Columbia. But once past that hurdle, you'll use him every time!

GREAT electrician: Returns your calls, reconfirms appointment prior to arrival, shows up on time, completes work on time, professional and delivers exactly what he says - which is a top notch job. He is worth every penny he charges - besides, how else is he going to pay for that Columbia University education he got?? More than your average electrician.

Brett is fantastic! He returns calls promptly, arrives on time for appointments, and completes projects quickly. He has installed indoor and outdoor fixtures at my house on several occasions. I have always been very pleased with the results. I plan to have him install a chandelier in the dining room, once I find a good match from the manufacturers he has suggested. Thanks, Brett!

A few days ago I used Brett for the second time in eighteen months. I recommend him highly without any reservations.
Scheduling an appointment with Brett is easy and best accomplished by phone. Brett arrives on time with all of the tools and supplies needed for the work that was discussed.
Brett is personable, professional and efficient. When planning the work, he will suggest solutions that are the best fit and cost-effective for your situation. Brett will perform both large AND small jobs with equal diligence and attentiveness - a service rarely found in the bay area. He is flexible and will work closely with you to ensure complete satisfaction.
I believe Brett's fees are fair and reasonable for the work he does. Repeat customers are the core of a professional's business, and I am happy to count myself among that group for Brett. I am confident that I will be calling Brett again in the future as I have been very pleased with his services.. and I expect that you will be too!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I highly recommend Brett for all your lighting needs. I found him knowledgeable about all the lighting options, offering creative suggestions to improve our lighting. He is personable and professional and more importantly, he works efficiently and effectively (even offering to switch out a working light on our very high ceiling with a new bulb to avoid having to come back later to change that one). He handles a wide range of jobs, from the lighting in our complex to changing a few bulbs in our condo.

I had remodeled about 5 years ago and had been trying (unsucessfully) to get my old contractor to come by and look at some problems.. I finally called Brett after reviewing several other electricians on Yelp as well as one other electrician with the BBB. I had been living with several annoying problems for between several months to a couple of years and hadn't gotten around to calling anyone, mostly out of concern for cost. The biggest problem, or at least what I perceived to be a big problem, Brett solved over the phone for me...! And, here I'd been living with this situation for months, had already tried several things, spent $50 trying different things....! And, within 5 minutes, he talked me through the problem! That was enough for me to have him come by and look at my other two annoying things, one was replacing the guts of one of the sconces in a bathroom vanity, which he did in under 30 minutes for less than $86. The other problem was replacing under cabinetry light that had been running hot for months. I thought it was going to be a nightmare to fix. Again, he managed to do it in less than 30 minutes and replace the 3 lights. That cost less that $108 (time and materials). I'm having him come back again to install a ceiling fan in the master bedroom. This guy is great! I almost don't want to post because I'm afraid he'll become too popular!
