I had never used Yelp to find much more than a good place to eat or a decent martini bar, but when I had to find some help moving, Yelp pointed me to Lightning Van.
I can't imagine using another service for moving. I hope these guys are still around next time I have to move.
From the start, I received a phone call from them within 5 minutes of sending them an email, clarifying what I needed so they could be prepared. When they arrived on the day of the move, they shot straight to work and didn't mind that I had no clue how to disassemble my bed frame. They treated our stuff like it was precious furniture and not a crappy $35 dollar couch I'd gotten at a yard sale. Everything was transported in one trip less than I thought it would take. They didn't even mind when I decided to have them include some extra boxes in addition to the furniture.
They were efficient, professional, and surprisingly spirited regardless of having multiple moves in one day!
The best thing was the straightforward rates. No surprises or extra charges. And SO CHEAP for 2 guys AND a van!

I found these guys here on Yelp and they were very good. I drove a pretty big truck in from Texas and needed help unloading and they showed up on time. My building was still under construction and of course, the elevators were out of service. In addition, there were about 5 others moving in so these geniuses came up with unloading my large truck(didn't fit into garage), loading it their van, and then driving their van into the garage adjacent to stairs next to my apt, and that reduced the move time down by half the time. They worked well around the construction and the other people moving in. They did not complain, milk time, or increase the price since they had to carry everything up 3 floors instead of the elevator. They were professional and worked fast and efficiently. They really saved my arse on that choatic move-in date which also included 4 friends visiting from Texas.
Anyways, good guys, great service, and I definitely will use them again and recommend them to anyone(as long as you don't have too much stuff) but as someone else said, the van is larger than imagined.
These guys busted their skinny asses on very little sleep and a lot of Van Halen (OK, well at least one song between trips) and made my move a piece of cake! Very nice, very industrious and professional. Showed up on time and the rate system is as straightforward as it seems.
Though I hope I don't require their services for a very long time, I would definitely use them again. Recommended.
These guys were extremely on top of things. They fit stuff into their van that had no business making it in, all so it would make one trip from the storage unit to to my apartment. Highly recommended!
Lighting movers are the goto place for man on van action is WIlliamsburg. They are not at all angry guidos like you may think. I did not actually clock their speed but I would guess as the name suggests that it was comparable to the speed at which lightning strikes, as the name suggests. you can't go wrong here.
I have now used Yelp to find everything from coffee shops to gynecologists, so when I had to move to a new apartment, I thought - why not use Yelp to find movers?
Boy, am I ever glad I did! Charlie and Colin are awesome. They were easygoing, friendly, and efficient. It was like having two of my most careful and reliable guy friends move all of my things. Without a doubt this was the most stress-free and easy move I have ever made.
They are an INCREDIBLE deal for the money, as they are also easily some of the cheapest movers I have found in the city. I will definitely use them again in the future.

These guys are on their job! As I write this there's 10 other like-minded reviews. But as fate would have it, every pond full of swans has to have at least one ugly duckling. I'm not sure who it is that this individual was speaking of. However, these guys were on time, extremely friendly (they even let my son hang out and ride their dolly). They asked about everything they'd move. They moved us into a gated community with strict management rules to say the least and didn't complain one bit. Even after they were told they couldn't park right in front of the building and roll our stuff up the conveniently placed ramp. Rather, they were forced to park on hill and haul our stuff through the longest round about route ever. They smiled and just did whatever it took, they even joked about it. They were almost too inexpensive and moved everything from glasses to clothes, not one thing broke. We had things that weren't in boxes and boxes that weren't taped and they came prepared with tape and a cart. I think they're the best movers if you're not moving too much stuff. This is the most bang for your buck.
This past weekend, we bought some bookshelves from craigslist, and not having a car that would fit them, we found ourselves in quite a pinch.
Some friends recommended the guys at Lightning Van, and we were able to call and schedule them in a flash. They showed up right on time, and had the job done in no time.
This was my first small scale moving van experience, but it definitely opened my eyes as to how much easier it is than scheduling a delivery service or larger moving company. They'll get my business again.
I used Lightning Van for a home Depot run and they were great! I get a little overwhelmed in Big Box stores but they were very patient and even helped us divide our carts between our personal and business stuff.
We got some big plants for the frontage of a business and they needed to look good when they got there. Lighten Van was very careful, the plants look great and they didn't mind making two stops. They even got us around fast in heavy traffic! I recommend them to anyone needing a van service for a Home Depot or Ikea trip. Nice, Fast, Professional: Just Fantastic.

They were 45 minutes late.
Were not pleasant at all.
Complained about the amount of things they were moving... Ummm, you are movers right?
The one thing I MUST say is, If they can only hold a certain amount of things, then they should ask what the f*ck you have down to your toothbrush! They didn't ask me to disclose what I was moving. I voluntarily told them what would be moved. They broke down furniture and left pieces upstairs... I would never use this service again!
What happened to NYC-Van, I miss them.
I could really do without the sense of entitlement these guys had. Then they tried to dupe me on the price. A real pair of douche bags if you ask me.
craigslist is always a scary place but after working with lightning van, it got less scary. i had originally confirmed a different 'man with van' service but the guy was kinda rude and seemed put out to accept my business. then i received a very professional response from lightning van and canceled my first appointment. colin and i moved my 22.5 sq ft of storage to my apartment in under 2 hours. he was fast, friendly, and professional. i will definitely keep him in mind for the future. thanks, lightning van!

I was referred to Lighting Van from a friend and I was very impressed. Charlie & Colin were great! They were on time, they worked super fast & were very careful. They are a great deal for the money, I would defintely call them again. They were very patient, friendly and made my moving experience a breeze.
This moving service is punctual, super nice, efficient, fast and best of all a great price! Highly recommended!
