This place was the cheapest oil change I have seen in a long time...it was originally 19.95 but now it's $24.95 which is still cheap.
I was a little skeptical at first but after going there a couple of times I realized it was legit. Anyways, I've been there several times for oil changes and also got my car inspected there. If it's late in the month and you need your car inspected there may be a long line especially on the weekends.
The best time to go is early in the morning when they open up at 8am. This place is so fast I can get to work at 9am if I'm there by 8am and I work in Cambridge.
Seriously, SCREW Valvoline! I've been taking my cars to Lightning Lube for about 4 years for oil changes and the service is consistently great. The men who work on the cars are friendly and nice, and the woman who works the counter inside where you pay has a way of making you feel welcome and homey (in a strange I'm-in-an-oil-change-place kind of way). Today I was in and out in 10 minutes tops, and the cost for an oil change was $19.95. That's almost $15 cheaper than Valvoline and much quicker!
I went there on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm, and didn't have to wait at all. Granted, it was raining, so maybe that deterred the usual crowds, but the whole thing took no more than 15 minutes. I just moved to Somerville, so I was looking for a reasonable oil change place. Just as a note, the oil change is now $24.95 + tax = $26.00, not $19.95 as Kate had mentioned, but still reasonable!
