I recently moved from one large NC metro area to another a few hours away. I learned about this moving company via a business card push-pinned to my apartment complex mailbox station. That was probably the first bad sign. The person who answered the phone sounded like he was sleepy every time I spoke with him, which was probably the second bad sign. He forgot his appointment to meet me at my apartment for an estimate, which was the third bad sign. The last straw was when he said he had co-workers in my "moving to" city who could unload my rental truck. The week of my move when I asked for a confirmation that they'd be there to unload my truck, he said he needed to call to confirm. He did not return my call when promised, and I had to call him again. Turns out they were NOT available in my move-to city and I would have to make other arrangements, and at the last minute.
By this point, I decided to cancel my rental truck which cost me a $50 cancellation fee as it was within a 48-hour window of the scheduled pick-up. I ended up going with another local company I'd used before, but spent way more money than I'd planned.
Communication with Lightning Bolt Movers was extremely poor, organization skills are nonexistent, and attention to detail is not to be expected. Do not try to save money by using these guys -- you will get what you pay for. Trust me: spend a few extra bucks on a quality mover and have the peace of mind.
