Light Street Animal Hospital
5 reviews for Light Street Animal Hospital
I've had my cat for 7 years, in three cities and with three separate vets. Thus far, Light Street Animal Hospital is my favorite. Dr. John Trujillo is great. He is very personable and patient, making the effort to know my cat and me. He takes the time to answer all of my questions. The staff know me from the second I walk in. No long, tedious check-in process. They are ready for me when I arrive. Only once have I needed to wait for my appointment.
The price is right as well. In the past, my veterinarians have been expensive, even for routine visits. Here, visits are $30 and follow-ups are free. Meds are reasonably priced as well. Whether this is normal for everyone, my receipt always reflects an unnamed discount. For a graduate student, this makes me happy.
I came to this animal hospital via a recommendation. I would also highly recommend it to other animal owners in Baltimore.
I have not had a good experience here. My cat has been in a few times this past year, always for a UTI. I have seen Dr. Trujilo and another doctor whose name I forget (all I remember is that it was a young woman). Every time I go there, they mispronounce the name of my cat (his name is Louis, but it is pronounced like Louie). They continue to mispronounce his name, even after I repeat it for them correctly and despite the fact that I have been there about 4 times in the past few months.
He was never really given a comprehensive exam and I always felt like they were rushing me out the door and weren't taking me seriously. Also, I told them I fed him grain-free food and they acted like I was crazy.
I want to take him to a different vet, but I don't know which one to try....I am thinking maybe Mt. Washington Animal Hospital.
Visited this place for the first time today and I was shocked that it was even in business.
1. It was filthy. You wouldn't expect a place where a lot of animals go in and out to be super clean, because accidents happen, but this place was disgusting.
2. The "exam" was a joke. I brought a new adult dog for her first appointment. A tech weighed her, the vet shook my hand, said she looked calm, and gave me a prescription for heartworm prevention. He tried to give the dog shots. but I reminded him that she had already had shots at the shelter, and that it said so on her medical history. Then he listened to her heart, felt her stomach, and said she was fine. End of exam.
A friend of mine was there with two new cats at the same time. Her exam (for both) was under 5 minutes.
3. The vet didn't know what he was talking about. I kept him in the room to ask a few questions about the health issues I knew about from the shelter. When his answers contradicted their's (kennel cough? she's just excited, that's all. bloat? don't worry about it.), I told him so, and he said I should just go with whatever they said. So what was I paying him for?
4. The vet was in a big hurry. I got the feeling he didn't care a lick (no pun intended) about my dog, and he just wanted to prescribe something and get out of the room and on to the next $62 as fast as possible.
My dog's cough is worse tonight, and I'm starting over with a new vet as soon as I can. There are bad doctors, and there are bad vets. This place was cheap, but in no way a good deal. Stay away.
Last month, my 16-year-old dog, Frankie, became suddenly ill. I freaked out and immediately called my daughter in San Diego who looked online and found the Light Street Animal Hospital. The staff and doctor took very good care of my dog by quickly assessing and treating his condition and assuring me (calming me down). The cost of the treatment was very reasonable. We were treated equally well on our follow up visit. I'm happy to say Frankie is back to his sprightly, old self. I highly recommend this pet hospital.
first visit: euthanized-without so much as laying ONE FINGER in examination upon my gentle friend of twenty years. i will never forgive myself for being so emotionally distraught to allow that to happen that day..so trusting-naive-would you believe i went back a month later with my other cat?
second visit: same vet became agitated, put his hands ON the carrier (my baby was still IN it) and tryed to SHOVE IT OFF the exam table-TWICE! (he left the room, i started buckling up the carrier, when he returned and put his hands ON it AGAIN). i was shocked and shaken-informed the desk staff that he had just lost control of himself back there.. when he came flying out of the back RAGING..til he realized all eyes in the waiting room were upon him.
i went away, ever so grateful that my baby was NOT in a cage in the back under this guys care...and am in sorrow every day that my dear friend might still have been gracing me with his presence in his twenty-first year.
one star is way too many for this vet-Megele.
