This is a great place to go with a big group. The hostesses are accommodating and there is plenty of room for the kids to run around while the adults kick back and hang out with a beer. I think the beach volleyball was intended for adults, but it has turned into a giant sandbox for the little ones. And it seems like the kiddos can bring their own pails and shovels or just use the ones that have been left behind.

The chips and salsa are on par with Chili's (which I kind of like) and the queso is just average. Twice I have gone for the fish tacos which are just as good as any place I have ever been, the tilapia is grilled not fried, and the side of black beans is delic!

Not a place I would recommend for a romantic date or anything, but a great laid back spot to hang out at during the summer.

We have given this place a try on several occasions with our kids. It could be a great place if for two things - the food was better and the did something about the flies. The food is very average - at best. The flies were enough to drive us away. The reason you go is to hang outside on the deck, talk, eat, drink and have the kids play while the food is prepared. They had heaters placed all over the place, great if it was 45 degrees out but it was 98. Could use more fans and possibly H2O misters.

I am not sure if we will visit again.

life may be a beach, but dining here is a bitch.

i feel a hint of guilt for giving a locally owned, independent restaurant a less-than-beaming review, but not enough to actually keep me from writing it.  so i'll go on.

hordes of untethered, screeching children roam free in the outdoor sand volleyball bit and faux beach area in what appears at first glance to be a 'lord of the flies'-like scenario.  but no, these are merely the children of the locals who came here to throw back a few...which brings me to my next point:

i can't really see the appeal of anyone visiting 'life's a beach' more than once unless they have children.  if you''ve got kids and want to grab a few drinks without worrying about finding a sitter, then by all means, head to 'life's a beach,' where they can roll around in pits of sand and you can booze it up worry-free.

the food really isn't even worth mentioning, so i'll just call it "aggressively mediocre" and move on.  there are some seafood dishes and "jamaican-inspired" fare, but the focus seemed to be more on various "blackened chicken"-type of entrees.  service is fine.

as michael b. stated, i'll give "life's a beach" an extra star for effort.  they really went all-out with the beach theme, especially in the patio area, where they got close to going overboard.  (ba-dum!)  one bizarre feature is the television screens indoors displaying video footage of actual aquariums- it really drives the point home that you are, in fact, nowhere near an actual beach.

overall, a strange, somewhat baffling experience.  my friends and i kept wondering, "what IS this place?"  the people watching is top-notch, but not enough to bring me back.  that said, the owners really tried their best...

It's about time Highland Village got a place as cool as Life's a Beach!  It's been a long time coming.   This was the brainchild of one of HV's own, and he was right on.  I had the boiled shrimp, and there was enough in the bucket to feed 3 of us (OK, well, we're girly girls, but it would easily feed 2).  The outdoor patio dining is divine, and the sand lot is a great place to send the kids so the adults can visit.  I can't wait to go back!

+1 for the effort.  The outside beach area seems like a good place to let kids run around while you drink with friends or for a happy hour, and maybe if I ever do that, then I'll raise my rating of this place. But for a place to go with your wife and infant, this place sucked.  The food was well below average.  My wife got a hamburger and fries and it was as bland as food could be.  Season the freakin' beef.  The spinach artichoke dip was disgusting.  Tasted like paste. We left most of it there and I NEVER leave food at the table.  I had the fish tacos and they were actually pretty good.  Still 1 for 3 is not good.  There was a Rangers game going on, but the television was tuned to some kind of auto racing.   This wasn't even big auto racing.  It was spare auto racing that they show on Fox Sports.  The Rangers probably lost anyway.

Really neat looking place... I love the atmosphere. The food has been consistently okay. I am not dying for it but it is a nice place to go to have something different. Nice Pina Colada.

    Poof.

Another restaurant bites the dust; they disappeared prior to the start of the new year.  Lights off, nobody home, sign in the window thanking their patrons for a few years of support.  Their website now lists many fixtures for sale...

Cool atmosphere. They did a good job on the decorations and making it feel like your not in Texas. But, that's where the 2nd star came in. The food is not good at all. I went there a second time thinking we just had a bad experience, but even the burger wasn't that great. How do you mess up a cheeseburger? If your looking for a neat place to sit outside and have drinks maybe. But don't go there for the food. As far as the kids. I have heard that it's becoming more of a problem. Wasn't to bad when I went. However, we sat inside the second time. I wouldn't go back unless they change the food quality.

Coming from Cali, this place really reminded me of Islands.. but a better place to watch sports and get drinks.  I sat at the "Shark Bar" which has a ton of big screen TVs and the bar is right there, so I guess it was the perfect place to watch a game.  I had the steak  quesadilla  and it was one of the best i've ever had.  The waitress tended my table every few minutes and was super courteous.  There's a beach volleyball court in the back which is great, especially for the kids to play I guess. I'd go here again.

Excellent place to take young kids. I think the outdoors was intended to be a sand volleyball court, but there are too many kids out there with their sand buckets and shovels to actually have a game. So as  a mom of 2 in the suburbs, this is a GREAT place to hang with your friends while your kids run around in the sand.  We've been able to eat outside twice and our waiters were good both times.  We have eaten indoors twice as well and I'm not sure why, but the service inside both times was questionable.  First waitress was just a little overbearing and irritating and the second time our waiter was just slow!    Everyone in town is here every night since it's the newest thing so expect a wait.  but it is totally worth it for the atmosphere.  The food is a tad pricey but I've liked what I've ordered - pizza, boiled shrimp, quesadillas.  You might want to feed your kids before or after you come because they will be too busy to eat!
