Don't want to ditch this place too bad.
Heard a lot about this place. When I went there, I though it was good not great.
They really don't have a great view of anything. And the whole atmosphere to me was a bar on top of a building. There was no cumulative experience where you go "Woah That was great."

I am reviewing the Rooftop Bar. While the view is nice, the food is not. I had a club wrap and a warm glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The wrap was comparable to an airport sandwich that has been sitting in a refrigerator for an unspecified number of days. The wine was, well, warm.

Unlike the library the rooftop bar is more sandwiches, salads and light fare you go there for the view and it is dressy/casual, to people watch and to drink margaritas, mojitos and other fruity cocktails, wine . The Emerald Martini I had was okay but, some fruity drink the bartender made me (forgot the name) was really good- the prices here are pretty cheap and the drinks aren't expensive either. This would be a good spot to catch up with friends or take your s/o or date here..beautiful harbour view at night and they have live music on the weekend.

I had a BLT sandwich for lunch at the Rooftop and it wasn't bad. Even though a blind beggar could throw it together. It's a shame the bartender was completely inattentive and seemed more interested in chewing his plastic straw and watching a tennis match. Getting an empty cup refilled, asking if I'd like a beer, possibly the check, or maybe even how the food was would simply have been too much to handle. Hence one star and a loss of future business. Thank you for making it a one stop shop.
This is a great place to go on a nice day in Charleston! You can sit outside and enjoy the sun, breeze and views. The mango mojitos are pretty good too. We also had great service. Didn't try any of the food but the menu looked good as well.

ok, i was informed this morning that the rooftop actually MUST close at 11:00 p.m. due to a relatively new zoning ordinance (a: i can't believe people actually read my tripe; b: booo charleston for effin' up an otherwise fine establishment) so i am constrained to review my . . . review.
i hoped my original review conveyed that this was actually a great venue with just a few problems, the closing time being one of them. i'll bump them a star since this is not by choice.
still going with 4 stars (i don't give 5 easily), but knocking one off for the p.i.t.a. elevator access.

You're on vacation and there is a hurricane headed toward the coast, what do you do? Sure, your hotel says they might kick you out and tell you to leave the state, but they haven't yet, what do you do now? You drink that's what. This place was great. Rooftop bar stayed open while it got nice and stormy and the great bartenders introduced this Oregonian to Firefly sweetsea vodka (I took home about a gallon, if anyone wants to mail me some that would be great too as they don't sell it in Oregon, BOOOOO!!!). The staff was wonderful even though we were the only ones there and they probably could have closed because of the weather. Had a crab dip that was to die for and it was just the perfect little escape. The owner came around to make sure we had everything we needed and let us know some great places to go in the area. We had our own little storm party and it was great. Needless to say, the hurricane never really hit, but The Library Rooftop Bar will be on my list of places to go if I am ever back on the east coast.

I was a cocktail waitress here during college. Go in through the Library Restaurant entrance (and avoid that restaurant in general- WAY too costly for what it is) and take the elevator to the top floor.
This bar used to have the greatest view in Charleston, being up high and offering views of the water, James Island, Fort Sumter, and the "Holy City," but some new condos built in the past few years have eliminated some of that. Nevertheless, it's still got a good view, beers are decently priced, and they have a good variety of liquors and beers.
Weekend lunch is also a good time to hit up this place- they have a good, varied menu, and staff to accomodate a busy brunch crowd.
The waitress admitted that it's way overpriced and the food sucks, but the rooftop bar sure does have a great view:)

It's the perfect place to take a date at sunset for a drink before dinner. It's within 250m of the top 3 restaurants in Charleston. You can see the Charleston skyline on one side, overlook the Harbor and bridges on the other, feeling a nice light seabreeze on a warm summer night.
i was asked to play tour-guide for a friend of a friend of a friend (that's friend^3 or friend 3x removed) who will be stopping off in c-town for a couple days. i said sure, my stipulations being: i don't have to hang out with the fam she's travelling with, she likes smoky bars, possibly pool, buys me a drink, and i don't have to go out in the sun. also to apply, she must submit her resume, three recommendations, transcripts, and two essays. it's a very competitive process. later, while counting my pennies, it occurred to me that i may be the worst tour-guide ever. seriously: can you even be a tourist without wandering around in the sun all day? don't tourists want to know the back story on everything? i could care less about boring history: what i want to know are ghost stories and gossip. besides, this is charleston. history is hearsay. one of our founding fathers invented the word "truthiness." if you really want to know what happened, pack the valium and don't ask me. but it occurred to me that if i were a tourist, i might like this rooftop bar (inexplicably dubbed the library), granted at night, not with the sun beating down on me in all its fury. if you like options, there's also a rooftop bar at that swanky hotel on the corner of market and east bay. damn. i am so useful it kills me. of course, who am i kidding? we'll probably just go to ac's and call it a day.
