I stumbled in at 1:30 a.m. I might have been a bit tipsy. I go up to the counter and order a cheese slice. The guy gives me the evil eye. I turn around to see if maybe there was someone behind me that he was looking at. Nope...it was for me. I picture him yelling "no soup for you!". So I smile and say please. He then hands me my slice. Phew! I'm grateful, because I really needed the grease after my night of drinking. He then begins to yell at the guys that walked in before me and threatens to kick them out. The guy obviously hates his job. My friend and I fittingly named him the pizza nazi.
Good thing the pizza was good!

I've been all over the world and have had the best and the worst pizza possible. (Note: If you're in Paris, France, SKIP THE PIZZA!!!)
Liberty Pizza in Pacific Beach, CA is amongst my favorites for authentic and AFFORDABLE NY pizza! They always offer several different varieties of pizza to buy by the slice... i appreciate the fact that they have the different selections, so that way I can explore and satisfy my current cravings and try something new once in awhile. I always opt for at least one slice to eat right then and there because I usually can't wait to get home. All of their whole pizzas are 18" that you can eat there or take home.
WARNING... You might not get all the way home without eating another slice or so, so be sure to eat as many slices at the store you can get away with so that there is no "evidence" when you get home. (What the family can't see, they won't know about!!!)
PS... Don't forget to try the cheesecake!

Liberty Pizza seems to be cut from the same cloth as several other good pizza joints, like Bronx Pizza, Knockout Pizza, Bongiorno's New York Pizzeria, and a few other short-lived pizza joints downtown (Brooklyn? Ciro's?). They all sell very good, thin, authentic New York-style pizza by the slice in shabby little shops, and are all run by ex-New Yorkers who have a lot of character but often a brusque manner. Liberty's pizza is exceptionally thin and surprisingly good, about on a par with the others, where I'd rate Bongiorno's the best of the bunch. Liberty's excellent straight cheese slice is $2.50, about what you'd pay in New York, but because the pizza is so thin, it takes several slices to do the job, making this less of a bargain than it might appear. This place is a hole in the wall and though there are both tables and booths, this is not the place to go "for dinner" but really just for a delicious snack any time of day. This is the only place I know of in the San Diego area, aside from Bongiorno's, where you can find a stromboli - somewhat like a calzone - though I did not try theirs.

Good ham and pineapple but they rarely have it all the time for slices so I dont go here much. If they had it all the time I would be there more.

If you have a New Yorker in the family (such as I do), you know that true New Yorkers are as open and nice as they come. I like this Pizza Place's homage to true New Yorkers. True smiles, true quality, and true pizza. The owner is real, and has a kind spirit. His pizza is quintessential pie, with a thin crust and a sweet doughy softness and crisp exterior. The amount of tomato sauce is perfect, with the right amount of sweetness and spice. When the thin layer of melted cheese sets as the pie begins to cool, they have achieved perfection. The kind of perfection one must hold up high to the mouth and savor the smell and flirt with the eyes across the table at a loved one, as if to say "thanks for bringing me here!"

Pizza is good, NY-style. If you don't mind flirting a little and you're a cute blonde, you get free soda with your slice. ;)

3 stars for the pizza, but 4 stars for pizza 'wit attitude'
Don't be surprised to be cussed, yelled at, and made fun of at this place as they try to give you the most authentic NY style pizza. Good for after the beach/bars pizza...
