16 reviews for Liberty Park
Liberty Park,
Im actually going to review the park for 2 things. The all weather track is great to run in all types of weather. It may take 5 1/3 rounds to complete a mile, but at least you wont be getting dirt all over your sneakers. All though there tends to be large crowds of walkers around 5-8pm. Its a nice park to run, it also includes 3 beach volleyball courts in the center of the track. Nice!
Frisbee or Disc golf anyone? Liberty park has a 9 hole frisbee golf course which is very good for first time players. The terrain is very grassy so for you new bees your frisbee wont get to damaged. The holes are close in range and there are trees so even when it gets hot, its still not to hot. The location is perfect, near the 91/605 freeways, even the 405 isn't to far. I enjoy this course, its relaxing and the players who also play there aren't douche bags. Enjoy!
3.5, slightly better because of a more friendlier atmosphere. Nearly all the Cerritos Regional Parks are built the same way. Have a swimming pool (maybe), definitely a basketball court, have some sort of rubber track to run around in. The only difference was the Cycling paths, for avid cyclers around here. While I was doing strength and conditioning training for my dancing and cross training I came across a friendly senior citizen Filipino Cyclist. Forgot his name (it escapes me) but he's apart of the Adobo Belo Cyclist Group that meets every saturday.
If you're 40 plus, Filipino, can ride a cycle, this group might be for you( although I'm somewhat joking on age range, because I think anyone can join as long as you're competent on a bike). Overall, a better spot than CPE to me, at least I can practice handstand related stuff without being bothered.
The park is a really nice gathering area. I went there with a group to train and we did a 10 mile bike pre-test workout. There was a trail at the edge of the park and the class took it all the way down and back. People are super friendly and the place is nice in the morning.
I am planning on coming back again to ride.
Probably my new favorite place to train now.
Very excited.
I come here now to play tennis when I have a Cerritos resident to play with. You have to reserve a court so you don't get kicked out, but it gets really busy in the evenings so reserve accordingly. People get pretty feisty about their court time too so be nice. :)
It's a good to play at and you can park by the courts so it's easy, especially if you mess up your hamstring (like me) during playing. hahha. You can get back to your car without too much trouble.
Good times! :)

Liberty Park has definitely changed.
I remember back in the day we used to come, watch our boys play… Read more »
Awesome park! Very clean and kid friendly.
Love the fact that this park does not have sand in the kids playground. That way, you don't have to worry about your kids' shoes picking up the sand and transferring it to your car. They have rubberized mats for the kids play area and the jogging track.
They also have a nice gym inside the Liberty Park Community Center and a kids computer room and a "living room" where you can sit down and enjoy a good book.
They also rent the hall for birthdays or other celebrations. The kitchen inside the hall is roomy and is updated with the newest appliances. Of all the parks in Cerritos, this is my favorite. It really brings the community together, and isn't this what parks are there for?
I may be biased as my daughter's Tot Lot is at Liberty Park, we had our daughter's birthday party at Liberty Park, we had our wedding shower at Liberty Park (@ the old State Farm building), and now our daughter is taking ballet class at Liberty Park.
Go Liberty Park!
As with Cerritos Park East for the newer east side of town, Liberty Park serves as the major park for people who live in the older western half of the city.
For a short while Liberty Park boasted the rubberized jogging track before Cerritos Park East got their own a year or so later. I used to drive out here once in a while to utilize it, since it garnered rave reviews at its ribbon cutting.
Liberty Park is always being improved. As someone else mentioned earlier, this park was aging fast with an dilapidated community center, outdoor theater, playground equipment and basketball courts that attracted gangs and juvenile delinquents from neighboring cities that wanted to use Cerritos facilities as a "neutral zone" for them to enjoy playing basketball and hanging out, without fear of violating other gangs' turf. We were like the Switzerland of the region, if you will. Though they may not have caused any property damage or committed any crime per se, just the mere sight of them in public spaces like Liberty deterred many residents, including myself, from utilizing the park.
In keeping up with the theme of liberty, Cerritos residents wanted the riffraff out of this public area so that it could be secured for themselves primarily. The ghetto people's presence made Cerritos residents uneasy. So a comprehensive study in which their behavior was recorded began. I bet it took an afternoon to come up with a resolution: "They tend to congregate here to play basketball, hence, let's remove the basketball courts. And, while we're at it, let's renovate the entire park and bring everything back up to a high standard."
And so it came to pass.
In February 2006, the renovations for a new park were completed. A brand new community center with gym equipment, high quality furniture and high-tech amenities was the centerpiece. A rubberized running track and a new picnic shelter rounded out the upgrade. Even the playground equipment, ones I've gotten hurt on so many times as a child, were "childproofed" and replaced with the newest and niftiest upgrades. Hell, even beach sand was added to the volleyball courts to reenact playing, well, beach volleyball. There are no longer any signs of people from the ghetto cities surrounding Cerritos present or loitering.
Someone go ring that Liberty Bell and let Abraham Lincoln know (there's a bronze of both outside the community center) that Cerritos is free from these gangs!
Really though, it's a nice park. Go visit and check out the upgrades. Unless you belong to a gang...then in that case, go fuck off.
The park is about 2 miles from my place. I sometimes usually don't go jogging here unless my roomate is coming with. The park is huge and really green (I wish the parks back at home would have been kept this green year round). They also have a track that most people either use to jog or walk, no serious runners on this track unless you come when there is no people cause you won't have the space to do your own thing. There are also two sand pits for volleyballers and also jungle gym types for little kids to crawl around. There are also benches situated around the place, but there is plenty of trees so why not take a sit under the shade (I just don't because grass tends to make my skin itch and I'll end up with a rash sooner or later).
Oh and if you want some ass-candy, make sure to walk/jog behind any girl in short shorts, their buttcheeks are sure to be half out.
I enjoy my jogs to this place. Don't run me over if you see me .. I tend to jog at a slower pace =)
Liberty Park is awesome and offers tons of fun for the whole family!
1. Walk together on their rubberized track
2. Play volleyball in the sand
3. Let the kids play on the children's playground w/ rubberized/bouncey flooring
4. Play some tennis
5. Shoot some hoops
6. Relax and picnic with your loved ones at any of the tables and benches available.
Parking can be a little challenging if you come between 6 P.M. - 7:30 P.M., but remember there are two lots (the main one near the community center and the back one that wraps around the perimeter). You can also park along the street.
A great remodeled park that features a cork/rubber track. Volleyball sand courts in the middle of track. A big playground that provides additional water fun during the summer. 4 racquetball courts that you can play in. (must be reserved and costs 6 dollars) A recreation center that houses some classes and rooms that are available to rent for functions. Baseball fields and bbq areas. And a gym that costs about 30 bucks for a year membership if you live or work in Cerritos. It's a nice park with a lot of amenities. Parking can get scarce in the evening and I hate it when walkers don't pay attention to the track rules of walkers on the outside and runners on the inside....ugh read the sign will yah??!
This is a gorgeous park for any event.
You can actually rent this place for about $60.00 per hour plus a security deposit.
Let's party !!
It wasn't too long ago when I used to dread coming to Liberty Park. Years ago this park was so GHETTO!! But since the removal of the basketball courts, it is back to what it was intended to be. A complete family friendly park for the Cerritos community.
I frequent Liberty Park during the summers as it's the most convenient access to the San Gabriel Riverbed. I can go south for a 16 MI bike ride or north for an endless trail to the Whittier area. I feel safe knowing I can leave my car for hours unattended. It's where I train during the summer since I have access to the bike trail and the track to run after my bike ride.
Last Sunday we decided to have a picnic and I realized that Liberty park has almost all the amenities anyone would need from a park. Picnic tables, tennis courts, Frisbee golf, beach volleyball just to name a few. Another added bonus is the fact that bathroom and almost everything has remained clean. In fact, spotless.
I love Liberty park. It's a great place to take the kids and relax on a Sunday afternoon.
This is a great park to go to for just about anything. One of the features that I like is the 330-yard all-weather track that is lighted until 10pm each night. It's a great place to go and walk with friends. And it's safe.
The park also has a softball diamond, six tennis courts with lighting, four indoor racquetball courts, three sand volleyball courts inside the track, playgrounds, picnic shelters with barbecues, picnic tables, restrooms, exercises stations, and a full-service community center complete with dance studio and fitness center for Cerritos residents.
One other features that I like is that there are two gates that allow access to the San Gabriel River Bikeway, which runs along the western edge of the park. Roundtrip from Liberty Park to the beach and back is about 16 miles.
There is plenty of parking in two lots and also the east side of Studebaker Road. There are eight handicapped spaces total; six in front of the community center and two by the track.
Good for group meetings. I did not know this place had a community center. I used to roll down the hill at the far end of the park. Its a long park that is next to the river so there's fence access if you want to walk it. Most of my friends came here to play tennis and volleyball.
I ran for the first time in more than a year! I'm not sure what material the track was made out of it, but it was really nice. Running on this track was easy on the knees. There are a lot of things to do at the park. Softball leagues, tennis courts, sand courts for Volleyball, a playground for kids, and a little fitness area for pull ups, lunges, steps, etc.. It was a little crowded though, but it was pretty organized. Runners on the left, Walking on the right.
Nice little park. Even nicer bathrooms. They actually don't smell like piss. In fact, aesthetically, these bathrooms are out of place. They'd look more in place at a ritzy-ish hotel.
I like this park. It's not a huge park, but it has a lot of ammenities. There is a nice size apparatus with slides, swings, and monkey bars. It also looks to be handicap accessible which is nice. There is also a small water area where lil munchkins can get soaked during the summer months. They also have summer night music programs. It has a beach volleyball area, rubberized running track (small), tennis courts, walking pathway, baseball area, frisbee golf area (careful, they are not those plastic frisbees you grew up with, they're heavy rubber ones, my husband got hit with one on accident), and covered cemented table picnic area. There is also a private fenced off picnic area with grill and stage. I think you have to rent it out from the city. The Liberty Park rec room has recently been remodeled. It is very nice inside. There is a small gym outfitted with few treadmills, free weights, and weight machines. They also offer many classes here. I took the Zumba (latin cardio workout) class here and it was AWESOME! I also believe they have summer camps here for the kids in the summer. I love to take my dogs here because there aren't any ponds where water fowl like to congregate. they also have biodegradable poopybags available for you to pick up after your dogs, please please pick up after you dogs! Sometimes I let them off leash and they have room to run around without getting harrassed by other dogs. Only downside is that it is near electrical power line and parts of it are facing a major street. Parking can sometimes be difficult during peak hours.
