So if you find an area that doesn't smell bad, you'll definitely get a great deal on delicious foods.   It smells though.  Bad.  Very bad at times.

This is a must visit in Baltimore.  Not everyone has positive reaction to crowded and dirty markets, but I love it!  I loved it in Thailand and basement of department stores in Japan.  While Lexington Market is a popular tourist destination, it is not a high end market, so don't be expecting San Francisco's Ferry Market or Boston's Faneuil Hall atmosphere.

Location is a bit off of tourist tracks, so neighborhood may feel a bit rough.

A classic Baltimore market. The food isn't general the reason why people come here, but you'll find plenty of authentic Baltimore crab and fried chicken. Several events are held at the market throughout the year, including the Baltimore Chocolate festival.

I wish every city had someplace like this.  I am always disappointed when I get to a new place and find out that their "market" doesn't even compare to Lexington Market.  This is, in my opinion, the yardstick against which all other urban markets must be judged.  They have a vast selection - meats, dairy, produce, seafood (especially seafood!).  They also have some restaurant stalls as well, so you can get something and walk over to the tables to eat your lunch.  This place has real B-more flavor, unlike Harbor Place several blocks away.  For crab cakes, you have to go to Faidleys.  I also like the several Korean stalls, including one where you can order sushi ala carte.  People are friendly too.  The first review is right - this isn't the Ferry Building market in San Francisco.  That is valid in its own right too, but comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.  You can tell that real people do their actual grocery shopping at Lexington Market, but worker drones come for lunch too.  As for getting there, if you aren't up to walking (you can do it - it isn't as bad as you might think), you can take the Baltimore Metro or the light rail from like Camden Yards or something.

A great place to get the freshest catches from the Chesapeake Bay. The crab-cakes are "world famous" and you can even order them on-line. Supposedly Oprah still orders crab-cakes from this market, but I personally like Legal's Seafood's crab-cakes the best. There's really not a restaurant here since it's a fish market, but if you wants some fresh oysters for dirt cheap, that's the place to do it.  I guess you just have to go for the tourist experience.
