I have been getting my hair done here for about 3 years now. I have never switched to a different salon or a different stylist either. Robbie is the shizzle. First time I went in, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair, and he always says/asks the right things to get it where we want. I've had plenty of different cuts/styles/colors in the past 3 years and I loved all of them. The whole salon staff is great - warm and friendly. They do a good job with all the hair cuts I've seen. This place is really a diamond in the rough.
I have visited Robbie about 4 times. The first three times, Robbie really listened to what I wanted. I told him I was a very low maintainance person and he gave me an easy to care for haircut. I really appreciate hair people who listen to the customer and not what they think we want.
The best decision I made, however, was when I asked Robbie to come up with something HE THOUGHT would look good for me-- given that I prefer sleep than doing my hair in the morning. He gave me a great, yet simple cut that complimented my face and lifestyle. The next day at work, people kept asking me about my hair, told me that I looked like a model. Ha! Thanks Robbie!
Even though Lewis and Company is in an odd location and they don't have their own website (not that I could find), they do constantly train their employees sending them around the country for hair training 1-2 (or more?) times a year. I really appreciate that fact.
I was going here for quite awhile until my hair stylist became very unconsistent. I heard Robbie is really good though. I would go to him but other people working there would probably give me bad looks for not going to them anymore. Ailen was good. But she is always not on schedule. She would color my hair, cut my hair, but would let someone else finish off. I didn't enjoy her rushing my appointments all the time. Service is not that great or consistent. If you must go there, only see Robbie.
I've been going here for almost a year now (about 5 visits or so). Robbie is my stylist there and I love him! I don't even leave the place stressed out because of a cut I don't like. I always immediately love whatever he does to my hair the minute he circles me around on that chair to look into the mirror.
The location of the salon seems pretty random. In fact, I was a bit intimidated because of the location. It's mostly surrounded by a lot of commercial/automotive businesses. Do not let that intimidate you because once you pass those extremely tinted glass doors, you'll be amazed to find a good local salon with down-to-earth people.
I can only recommend to see Robbie because he's the only person I go to, but the other stylists seem to have a good rapport with their clients. So, if you can't seem to book Robbie (which I don't doubt because you'll probably have to call at least 2 weeks in advance), I probably wouldn't mind seeing somebody else there instead.
I think I usually spend $55 (not including tip) per visit for a cut. I personally think that's not too bad, but I've been told that's considered too much - to each his/her own. I have had my hair colored there before. I don't think anyone (amateur or not) can go wrong with coloring a natural born black haired person to a more intense colored black because that's basically what I do. If you're looking for a more complex coloring situation, don't ask me because I've never done so here.
If you're a local still looking for that salon that you want to reside in and feel at home, I definitely recommend this spot. I've tried Visual Image (both locations when they were both still Visual Image), Bay Street Salon, and those Asian salons (although the hair cuts I receive from them aren't that bad, I just don't like the language barrier). I believe that finding the right stylist is just the process of elimination. There are just way too many variables for me to make you believe that this is the right stylist/salon, but it's the right place for me and I believe it's worth a shot to try it out.
