So sexy.  Yes, some outdated furniture.  Yes, a little awkwardly laid out as you can't always see the performers, but omg. Someone ask me on a date so we can go here!

It's purely for classy, older peeps.  Sorry kids, you're better off at The Shack, Arnold's or Coconut Willy's.  This place is for 27+ crowd. :)

If you're looking for a smooth and sultry cocktail lounge, if you're looking to look good in dark lighting, if you're looking to impress your date, come here.

I finally made it back to Hawaii and as always was looking forward to one of my favorite bars of all time Lewers Lounge.  But unfortunately it had undergone a makeover that was for the worst.  First I walk in to live music that reminded me of a "polka hall".  Then I thought I really needed a drink!  So I automatically head to the bar where their prized Mixologist was no longer working there.  And his replacement was the complete opposite. He stood with his leg up on the well and his hands on his hips with the angriest scowl then turned to me with an artificial smile.  Before I finish I want to state the I am of Chinese descant, but I could barely make out what he was saying at first.  Then I thought perhaps his skill level makes up for it. So I ordered a cocktail that I've always ordered in the past. Amante Picante.  Before he finished I stopped him because he grabbed these soggy looking cucumbers to use in my drink.  That was just not appetizing at all. So I apologized and cancelled my order and proceeded to walk out but as I left Jessica, the only familiar face there, recognized me so I sat at a table instead to give the place another try.  She informed me about the former mixologist moving to another hotel.  So... I decide to place an order with her.  Again I go for a menu item. Between the Sheets.  Mind you I am sitting where the bar is in my view and I over hear the bartender well yelling "what that guy gonna stay now?".  At that point I could only find the humor in it. Until I got my cocktail and I could taste that he used old lemon juice and made it into a sweet and sour.  Jessica saw that I was not happy with my order and courageously, I say courageously because this bartender was fierce!  She actually asked the bartender to remake the drink and after a bickering tantrum the bartender made my drink.  And at last it was how it should've been.  Not the same caliber like before but at least I could tell he used fresh lemon this time.  I only gave one star because of the only star there my server Jessica.  It was quite a disappointing experience.  Best description of my experience would be it was a bad parody skit of Lewers Lounge. Like I got "Punked".

Does anyone know if Halekulani is under new management?  Lewers Lounge was such a great place.  I don't know how they are still able to use Dale DeGroff's name.  False advertising...

    Sadly,

Walk in and forget where you are.
The ocean is steps away but WOW great place indoors if you need to feel like you are back in the lap of fine dining in Chicago- New York or anywhere in mainland.

    top notch
wine list/ drink list yes on the pricey side but no one was pushing me to drink 80 $12 drinks while I sat there

    Music was wonderful
Hiromi Kanda was the guest singer, full sounding band played great Jazz tunes for 2 sets and had a wonderful evening.

Hiromi's music can be found on ADA music at:
    http://ada-music.com/r...

Or you can see her messaging on facebook at:
    http://www.facebook.co...

Her music is just great- feel free to ask me more about it.

Wow again- check this place out regardless if you stay there it's open and worth the walk down Lewers.

Nothing short of amazing! Live music, upscale environment, classy bartenders, delicious drinks, and wonderful company, what else can you ask for? This might be one of the very few (if not only) places in Hawaii where you see staff in full tux, maybe it was just for the holidays, but I loved it. Aloha shirts are awesome, but sometimes you just want to be in the lap of luxury and Lewers Lounge feels exactly like that, like I've got money to burn (even though I really don't...) and it's well worth it.

Lewers is pure class. 100% class. And I am crazy stoked that I discovered this hidden awesomeness in the heart of Waikiki chaos. A huge debt of thanks goes to a comrade in the cocktailing game for pointing me to Lewers.

Situated in the Halekulani hotel, one of the nicest in Waikiki, Lewers Lounge is a total throwback to earlier, more elegant days. A jazz and cocktail bar by design, the plush, wood-paneled interior is set in brown, tan, and orange tones with nice warm soft mood lighting. The space is exquisite yet simple - very clean in its decór. Off  white marble gives way to dark ash wood floors and a clean, warm acoustic sound for the jazz duo playing a nice lounge set.

Hidden off from the ridiculousness of the strip, the clientele here looked like they fit right in - well dressed, proper and sitting in full enjoyment of the delicious drinks that these true barmen offer. Yes, the menu reads like a mix of classic craft cocktails, new martinis and traditional tropicals - but done right. At $10-$14 for cocktails, you'll definitely pay for the ambiance and quality, but the value is beyond present.

My drinking partners and I scored a nice couch/chairs combo in the back corner and sipped on expertly made REAL Mai Tais and a strawberry basil martini while listening to the duo hum out covers and fun lounge/jazz tunes. The service was a little slow, but it looked like they were more crowded than expected at 11pm on a Monday. Regardless of the pace, our cocktail waitress did what she could with apologies to keep us in cocktails and snacky-nuts.

My only regrets with Lewers are that I didn't discover it sooner, and that I had to leave when I did. This will easily be my first stop for cocktails when I return to the strip... mainly because it feels like it's miles away, yet still serves an authentic tiki drink. As the gentleman who directed me here said: "They don't make bars like this anymore." He's so right. I wish they did, though.

If you're looking for a legit cocktail in Waikiki... served up with class, slip off your board shorts, put on some pants, class it up, and come on down for the real deal.

Swanky place, if I do say so myself.  I almost felt like I wasn't in Hawaii anymore!  I definitely felt like I was in another time zone.  From the furniture to the decor, to the customer service, this is the classiest little lounge I have been fortunate enough to experience in Waikiki.  The live music totally adds to the elegant atmosphere.  If you are never able to get off of the island, I highly suggest you do a faux teleport to the East Coast via Lewers Lounge.

If you're looking for a upscale, classy bar, this is the place for you! With an amazing piano player, as well as saxophone player, you can listen to live music while enjoying pupus and yummy one-of-a-kind drinks, created by their very own mixologist/bartender, Tim, who is by far, one of THE best on the island!
Make sure you're wearing nice clothes because you'll definitely feel out of place if you're not dressed in a super classy manner, as I did, as I walked in with one of my girl-friends. You have a choice to sit either at the bar or on one of those oh so cozy and comfortable couches that are available. We sat at the bar, and not knowing what to order, we told bartender Tim exactly how we wanted our drinks, and he made the drinks the way we wanted. My choice was somewhat sweet with tequila, and my friend just wanted a green drink (she was cheering for the Celtics during the NBA finals). But my oh my, for young twenty-one year old's like us, those drinks were just a little too strong, but you are definitely getting your money's worth.
The staff is really nice. Make sure you stop by this bar sometime when you're in Waikiki. Try out some of bartender Tim's creations. Eat some of their delicious coconut cake when you're hungry. Listen to live music.

Hey, Slick Stud Muffin. Looking for a smooth place to take your date? This is as classy of a bar/lounge as you can get.

What's the feel for the place? Think upscale New York-style hotel lobby lounge from a movie scene. All I can say is that it's a smooth joint.

    I lah-lah-lah-lah-LAHVE Lewers Lounge!

This is a great venue for a romantic after-dinner date, or a friendly couple drinks.  The seats at the bar are uber comfy, though I don't sit there now that my favorite bartender, Ricky, is no longer there...

The ambiance is swanky yet elegant, the drinks are wonderfully tasty, the food is yummy, the jazz band is toe-tappin' good, and the service is on it.  If I were rich enough to drink here all the time, this would be my spot.  It's unlike anything else you will find on this island.  No t-shirts or slippers; you gotta look smart here.

    Legendary!
In my opinion, by far, the best bar in Waikiki.

Firstly, they have live jazz every single night! Set in an intimate candle-lit room: totally romantic.

Secondly, they are the only place that servers Calamansi (Golden Lime) based drinks. It's distinct flavor (like a lime but with a tang orange sweetness), makes every cocktail you've ever had different and new. My Calamansi Mint Julep was simply amazing.

Third, Lewers lounge is set inside the five star Hale Kulani hotel, where stories... happen.

One night I was there, I saw this gorgeous girl in a sun-dress walk by (toned body, large catchy eyes, and delicate features) and proceed to have a personal shopping session with some old lady. It turns out, as I found out a couple nights later, she was the reigning Ms. Hawaii!!

Another night, my friend and I see an Asian guy walks in with a couple of Asian girls. The guy was hideous, buck teeth bulging out of his mouth (but not too old). The girls were clinging onto him but with hollowed looks in their eyes. The girls were not very pretty, but were dressed pretty slutty. The guy, of course, sits down and orders Champagne bottle service. They start talking in a couple of Asian languages I don't know. My friend turns and whispers to me that the girl are Korean, they're saying how stupid the guy is. The guy is speaking Japanese. They were communicating only in broken English. Wow. I don't even know what to say...

    E.P.I.C

(You need closed toe shoes, collared shirt, and long pants. They are the ONLY bar in Waikiki to have such requirements, but trust me, it's worth it.)

Although it's been quite some time since I've been to Lewers Lounge, I felt compelled to write a review on this stellar establishment. Tucked away in the Halekulani Hotel, Lewers Lounge may just be the key to sealing any deal...

Not that any deal was "sealed" when I went (haha), I was whisked away to Lewers Lounge many years ago on one of the most romantic dates of my life. Dimly lit, warm wood grains, and cozy seating with live jazz...How can you go wrong? Drinks are good and strong, service top-notch. This is one swanky joint that I'd recommend to anyone that wants to charm the pants off a girl/guy :)

I've always loved this place - the drinks are, of course, overpriced, but it's gorgeous, has great live (often jazz) music, and while the drinks are overpriced, they're super yummy.

The environment is classy and it's a nice place to go for a nightcap after a great evening out. They serve tasty walnuts and cashews with your drinks, too - which is a nice touch.

The best jazz bar in Hawaii.  The service is top notch, the wine list is extensive, they make a perfect Martini, and the snack walnuts they give you are addictive.  This is all before I mention how the good the jazz is.  The regular sax player is worthy of Chicago, New Orleans and New York.  Love this place.  It's worth the coin.

Fancy, shmancy, a definite place to "hide out" if you're local--no one I know will ever think to look for me here!

I am 20-something, local, and (pretty much) broke, but I am also a closet jazz lover who cannot stand loud places full of my obnoxious sh*t-faced peers.

As the others have said it's dim and romantic, so, yes, dress up as in classy and not trashy.  In my opinion, I probably wouldn't come with my girlfriends for a girl's night out, as Lewer's Lounge's atmosphere is most suitable for a date/double date kind of outing.  I want to say the drinks are traditional, but I'm not sure if that would be accurate since afterall, I am only in my 20's and probably naive when it comes to that kind of stuff (hey, I'm still learning here).  But I really did enjoy the Bee's Knees.  YUM!  Gin, honey, and lemons.  Not too sharp, not too sweet, just right.  I'm craving it right now!

I really felt like I should have been in black & white and wearing a Cruela DeVille fur coat.  So far, this is hands down my favorite lounge/bar I've ever been to in... the world?  Will definitely be back soon.

Oh, and the service was excellent!  Very professional and on top of things!

Lewers Lounge is so different from so many other places to grab a cocktal in Waikiki. I honestly felt like I stepped into another world when I walked into to the dark and swanky room that is Lewers Lounge. Set in the beautiful Halekulani, it is truly a hidden gem! I just wish I had been wearing nicer shoes--I felt a little underdressed with my slippers on! My friend and I sat at the bar to enjoy a couple of cocktails. First round: a delicious dirty martini, second: glass of the house Malbec, I think (this was a few weeks ago, and many bars ago in my holiday pau hana bar tour). Even though I still think this place is a little too stuffy for my taste, the bartender took great care of us, and at one point the piano player even came over to ask us if we wanted to request any songs. I'll never forget his face however, when my friend asked him if he knew anything by Aerosmith! :)

I would definitely recommend this place if anyone is looking for an upscale, romantic type atmosphere to sip on a couple of drinks. But I do mean sip--appropriate behavior (and dress) is a must here!

Expensive cocktails in a pretentious atmosphere. Dress code is what knocked off stars for me. If my husband dressed in long pants and closed toe shoes he would be a sweaty puddle after a couple drinks and he got a "heat on" in Hawaii's tropical climate. If you buy into Lewers Lounge upscale fantasy and want to play the game, then this place is for you. I found other places in Waikiki with comparable drinks for less, with a more friendly atmosphere. Been there, done that, won't be back.

    Worst customer service ever.

I went out with three of my girlfriends and the wait staff here almost ruined our night out. From the beginning, there was no one there to greet us. We weren't sure if we were to seat ourselves or wait for someone, but after a while of lingering, we realized that no one was going to say hello.

We finally sat down next to a large party. After another couple of minutes of waiting, the waitress finally came up to us and showed us the menu. The drinks were average, but what was absolutely mind blowing was the total lack of service, particularly a lounge in a highly rated hotel.Throughout the night, we were completely, and almost intentionally, ignored.  I don't know what we did or if it was a way that we looked, but we were nearly invisible to our waitress. I know this because we watched her serve other customers (including others that came after us) and not us. We tried to be as polite and as reasonable as we could, but it was obvious that we were not getting any decent service in return for our efforts.

It only got worse when it came time to close out our tab. Apparently, she thought that we were a part of the large party next to us (Which doesn't make sense because we never spoke to them the entire night) and put our orders on their tab. Instead of correcting her mistake, she told us to work it out with the guy who was paying for it. So, we had to go up to this complete stranger, work out on our own what we had to pay him, and give him the cash that was owed. Again, let me reiterate that this was a mistake that she admitted to and WE had to fix it ourselves.

I complained to a manager before leaving which is something that I only do when push comes to shove. I will never, ever, ever go back there again and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Very impreseed with this place!  They have some of the best drinks you can get on the island!

They have very good jazz every night.  Mostly piano music, but they also have trios.

This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you are somewhere other than Hawaii.  Sure they have Mai Tai's and the infamous Tropical Itch, but you can also belly up and order a Manhatten, Side Car, Mint Julep or even a Pimm's Cup!  Yup, a little bit of everything at this bar.

My first thought when I entereed this place was a lounge you could find in NYC.  Very nice.  Not over-the-top though.  You can come in here in jeans and a nice comfortable shirt.  For the ladies, anything other than a batheing suit.

It really does not get busy in here.  There is a nice bar you can sit at or some comfortable sofa seating to relax i and enjoy the atmospehere.

This is one of my new favorite places to go to and will be back often1  Give it a try.  the drinks are a bit prices as are the snacks, but is well worth the price.

The Coconut Cake is the best!!!

The atmosphere and ambiance in it of itself is amazing -- classic and relaxing, combine that with great jazz music, and great company and your evening is definitely set.  My friend and I ordered some desserts as well, which were of course simply decadent.

It is growing harder to find a upscale jazz lounge where you can have a drink, some warm nuts, and fantastic service. The Lewers Lounge, on the first floor of the Halekulani, is a fantastic find and worth of one of my few five star reviews.

The standard drink menu features your classic cocktails and some new specialty twists that aim to please. The drinks are well poured to perfection in a careful symmetry of alcohol, temperature, and service equipment. Warm nuts and olives come standard but they do offer some nibbles if the mood fancies you.

The ambiance is gorgeous in the classic styling with beautifully polished wood paneling, comfortable chairs, and a great jazz vibe. There is a covered patio area as well if you want something more resort.

The service was top notch with the servers coming through at the perfect times and with the wait for a drink very minimal in my book.

There is a dress code so be sure to wear a collared shirt. I don't know how they truly feel about jeans since it isnt supposedly allowed but I have seen people in there with em. I personally wouldn't take the chance though.

Valet parking available in the Halekulani, if not, there is self serve parking across the street in the Waikiki Parc/Halekulani lot with a 4 hour validation from the bar.

Very awesome place and while I've been there before, I'll be sure to go many more times!

First off, I want to point out that this review is based on two separate visits to Lewer's Lounge, and I will break it down as visit One and visit Two. However, on visit two we kind of got an explanation of why the service was so bad on our first visit, please read on to find out.....

    Visit One:
Music - Very good (piano + saxophone & flute)
    Drinks - Excellent
    Service - Horrible

We went on a Friday to make up for a late birthday celebration. I love jazz, so I was excited to see that all the reviews said the music is good. (Coming from NYC and used to work at a world famous jazz club, I've been trained to crave good jazz LOL)

We showed up around 11:15pm. We were deciding where to sit and saw a table that hasn't been cleared and asked the cocktail waitress if anyone was sitting there, she said no and promptly took the dirty glasses away and wiped the table for us. However, IMO, the tables should've been bussed right away after the last patrons left, especially for a five star establishment.

We sat and got the drink menus and some nuts for snacks. Then we waited...

Five minutes went by..... Ten minutes went by..... Fifteen minutes went by..... I think we waited maybe 20, 25 minutes before Jessica came back to get our drink order. It took almost 10 minutes for our drinks, and she didn't bring the two glasses of water I requested. We waited a little longer for the water and I finally just got up and went to the bar and got them myself (the bartender was really nice and brought the waters to our table)

The drinks we ordered were all delicious: Pink Elephant, Whisky Smash, my husband had a martini with thyme that I don't remember the name of it and something else..... They were all really yummy!

The next Monday we went back because I really enjoyed the music, regardless the bad service we had.

    Visit Two:
Music - Ok (was only piano)
    Drinks - YUM YUM
    Service - top notch!

We sat at the bar this time as it was empty. Plus I saw the same cocktail waitress working as last time LOL

Despite I had a little cockroach crawling in front of me when we first sat down, it was still a really good experience (except the music this time).

Bartender, Tim, was VERY attentive, asking if we were doing ok, if we need refills on the nuts, kept emptying the pistachio shells and chatted with us for a bit (well, we were also the only patrons at the bar). The drinks he made were EXCELLENT! I had the giger lychee cappirissima and hubby had the strawberry basil martini, YUMMMMMM is all I can say!!!!

I wasn't really digging the piano alone, apparently that's what they have on Mondays and Tuesdays, just a pianist playing piano.

Jessica (the waitress) saw us and said hi as she remembered us from the Friday before, she even remembered the drink I had.
She apologized for the bad service and explained that her coworker was hurt and they called in someone else who doesn't know what to do for substitute.
Although it is no excuse, I do find relieve that we gave the place another chance and will def be back on nights other than piano solos.

I really like this place. Great place to chill and listen to jazz or piano music. Nice to unwind here. Bartenders are friendly. Service is great. Food is good too. Love the Lewers Favorites, a trio of popular items like kahuku shrimp fritters with tobiko aioli, pulled pork samosas with blue cheese dipping sauce and a foie gras sandwich with pineapple. I'm going back and forth on the number of stars to assign this place. On the one hand it gets a 5 for ambiance. It's a dark lounge, with comfortable chairs and great music. It's the type of place I'd want to sit for hours with a good solid drink, a churchill cigar, and my thoughts.

But my drink wasn't good enough to make me want to stay. I'm a brown liquor lover. My drink of choice is usually a Manhattan, a Sazerac, or an Old Fashioned. If I am feeling more optimistic I might get a Negroni. Still, you can tell I'm into the classic cocktails---the dark, brooding, slightly sarcastic ones.

I should also clarify: I am from New York. And when I was last in New York (a two year stint) I made sure to test out the top cocktail lounges. When I found my favorite I'd ask bartenders about their technique: "What do you do to your cocktail that makes it so much better than everyone else's?" A lot of times it boiled down to the quality of the ingredients: hand-made bitters, premium liquors, the best small batch vermouth. You get the picture. But a lot of it is also the technique. Classic cocktails can be more complicated than they seem---a good drink is not only what goes into a drink; it's how all those things are mixed together.

So, I was stunned when the bartender at Lewars Lounge told me he serves his Sazerac on the rocks, instead of chilling the glass first. I was also stunned when he said he muddles the lemon peel with a sugar cube.

I ordered a Manhattan. It was fine, not great. Not even that good. It was fine. I've made a better Manhattan at home. It was $12. Coming from New York this seems affordable to me. I don't mind paying for a perfect drink. This one was not.

I was bummed. I would go back for the ambiance, but from hereon out I'll stick to scotch, neat.

So here's the deal with Lewers Lounge.  It's very nice, they play great music, and it's... dare I say.... the perfect place to take a date for a late night drink?
When I think of Lewers Lounge, I think classy.  I also have to think twice 90% of the time I go there because i'm wearing slippahs and shorts.  Both are a big no-no.  It's in the Halekulani for crying out loud!
I think this might be the best spot on the island for spending quality time with your lady/man.  The music is jazzy and not too loud so you can enjoy the tunes while you have good conversation.
If it's a first date, I have to ask, did you win the lottery?  You must be crazy taking a first date to this place!  You're looking at $12 per drink... pricy, but fun... the drinks are originals and they're all good.  If your on a first date and you've not tipped her off that you're not a regular by wondering around the hotel grounds looking for the place... NO, I have NOT done that!... pick any drink off the menu and tell her... try this one, it's my favorite!  They're all good and no one's hurt until you pay the bill and she cabs it home, then the jokes on you!

Dapperly decked out in cocktail attire, my BF & I ventured to the Lewer's Lounge for a few birthday cocktails. Thank the Lord for this 5-star find because we've officially crowned it our favorite cocktail bar! Finding a high class bar is a toughy in this town and its always fun to play tourist in Waikiki!

Walking into the Lewers Lounge is like taking a time machine back to the Rat Pack days of Frank Sinatra. It's a small dark lounge with alcoves of seating where one can relax with friends and stop to smell the roses...errr excuse me, martinis. On that particular night there was a piano and base duo who played jazz and classic Sinatra crooner songs like "The Way You Look Tonight." I half expected Dean Martin to come out from the woodwork and start harmonizing with the base player/singer. Am I in Hawaii or is this an episode from "Mad Men"?

Our waitress brought out a small selection of nuts and we sipped on their specialty cocktails. I had the Strawberries and Basil which was heavenly! The two flavors are an excellent pairing and it reminded me of the time I had fresh strawberries with basil ice cream in Paris. The specialty cocktails are $12 but well worth the price for the experience!

The Lewers Lounge is strangely connected to me learning a few seemingly random life lessons:

Lesson One: Don't Run Yellow Lights When Your Friends are Trying to Follow (They End up Running Reds)

Our usually (not this time) erudite friend decided to tail me to the Lewers Lounge and ended up getting pulled over by Honolulu's finest. After pleading his case he fortunately found them sympathetic. Maybe the real lesson's not to follow crazy drivers.

Lesson Two: Classy Jazz Lounges at Five Star Hotels are NOT Ideal Places for Fifteen Person Bachelor Parties

Twice (neither was my doing) I ended up at the Lewers Lounge for a bachelor party. The first time, I was equally horrified and entertained watching my already slightly inebriated friends impatiently eating food off of some of the yet to be cleared tables (I wish I was kidding). This was after the group was kindly asked to leave (kicked out of) the actual modern lounge area and moved to the open air more plantation style space. I apologized to our stellar server (who actually seemed happy and amused to work a more blue collar crowd). The second party (totally different group of guys) was just as unsuccessful, but far less embarrassing. I explained that it's more of a couples place (or a four friends talking quietly place), but like the first time I was just along for the ride. :)

Lesson Three: "Round Bout Midnight" is Way Better Without Lyrics

My favorite Jazz recording is Thelonious Sphere Monk's solo piano version of "Round Bout Midnight". It's a melancholy masterpiece that ironically makes me happy. When last at the Lewers Lounge that's what I requested. Everything started off beautifully, the slightly dissonant chords, the lingering notes, then the pianist started singing....AAARGH! WHY? It was as unsettling to me as frosted Cheerios (which I happen to think are sacrilegious).

Anyway, despite a myriad of different ridiculous side stories certain things never change at the Lewers Lounge:

Killer Customer Relations - They're even polite when throwing you out, this place puts on a nightly guest services clinic.

Amazing Atmosphere - I love how chill this place is. Perfect for conversation. It's the place to go when you need to escape Honolulu and head to the city....http://www.halekulani....

Quality F & B - Everything's good here, the cocktails, the wine, the chocolate bento, everything (of course everything is also a bit expensive, LOL)

Jazz Music - For the most part great (except when lyrics are added to songs that don't need them...still bitter)

Free Validated Valet Parking - Just like Vegas, what more could you want in Waikiki?

Overall one of our favorite places to cruise, enjoy some pupus, devour a delicate dessert, sip some wine, listen to live music, get absorbed in good conversation, and basically pretend we're on Entourage. :)

This is the place to go if you have guests in town to entertain and they're 40+, like it dark, romantic, classy and expect service.

This place reminds of me of a new york lounge crawling with hedgefunders and aristocrats but they're actually in Hawaii on vacation.

They have a drink menu designed by Dale Degraff.  He's the super uber best bartender from new york that's on the food network, travel channel and fine living. Cocktails are pricey but worth it because they're big pours and they pour top shelf.

My favorite is the Chocolate Dream Martini
2 ounces Chocolate Van Gogh Vodka
2 ounces white creme de cacao
vigorously chilled and served straight up with a chocolate twisted stick.

I use to go all the time, but at $12-$15 a cocktail, I just whip it up at home and throw on a jazz c.d. and eat pistachios.

    Fine tropical living.

The Halekulani Hotel was built by Robert Lewers in 1907.  Its green interior lawns and high ceilings, with open breezeways, are a perfect way to cool the space in the tropical sun.  Today's buildings seem to be built with the idea that anything with enough electricity pumped into it can withstand the environment, but earlier buildings were designed to use the environment naturally.

There are two parts to the Lewers Lounge.  The famous piano bar is enclosed, and has a dress code:  collared shirt, slacks, and dress shoes.  The other part is just outside, behind open floor-to-ceiling plantation shutters, with a view of the interior lawn.  In casual dress, we were served by waitresses dressed in lovely white linen gowns.  Our cocktail napkins were also made of white linen.  We enjoyed a chocolate bento box:  five different kinds of chocolate goodies.  My Lady chose two glasses of cabernet to go with it, while I enjoyed two pina coladas.  This delightful interlude cost us $65.97 + tip.

The ambiance of this place is awesome. The live jazz music was really cool too.

My only complaint is the pupu's were ok, nothing great. I thought the wine list wasn't that great either. For the price I think there are much better places to get wine (or martinis).

I noticed when we got there (we are younger and local) it took us a while to get waited on. The older "tourists" and one haole male with Asian date where getting most of the attention from the wait staff.  That turned me off a little....

While on a random date night in Waikiki with my fiance with a full tummy but not yet ready to go home I suggested stopping by Lewers Lounge.  I knew he'd like the throwback elegance and sophistocated cocktails and boy was I right!

Lewers Lounge is from another place and time.  We picked a secluded couch in the dimly lit corner to enjoy the ambiance.  There are lots of little nooks where you can sit with friends or a special someone and enjoy the live jazz--piano and bass with vocals.  You feel like you've been teleported back to the '20s.

Service was fabulous as well.  Our server Misty was attentive and friendly.   Their specialty cocktails are divine!  My fiance ordered a Whiskey Smash which he enjoyed and I had some sort of chocolate martini (can't recall the exact name).  It was a piece of spiked chocolate heaven!  Even came with a little chocolate swizzle stick.  Misty also brought out some pistacios to nibble on while we sat back and relished in the sophistocated class that is Lewers Lounge.

Cocktails are a little pricey ($11) but well worth it.  You need to dress up a little, so come prepared.  I look forward to our next Waikiki date night, we'll definitely be back!

This is the ONLY classy place in Hawaii (SF standards).  But, since I'm a born & raised Hawaii girl, so what?

When I'm in Hawaii & want to provide my friends a glimpse of the old-school posh SF-style lounge, I come here.

This place reminds me of the Redwood room in San Francisco.  The crowd is a bit on the older side, but hey, nobody will ruin your night!  Also, there is a dress code, in other words, no rubber slippers or beach attire.  If you happen to wear that, no biggie, you can just drink in the lobby.

It's not overly crowded & I love that!  The jazz music is very soothing.  It somehow makes me feel like I'm flying in a world of fluffy clouds.

The service is impeccable.  The waitress is extremely friendly (given, we're in Hawaii) & very attentive.

Compared to SF, the drinks are reasonable.  For Hawaii standards, it is quite pricey.

Drinks are very delicious.  I've ordered their Pinot Noir  & a mixed amaretto drink (sorry, I forgot their exact names).  No matter what you order, you won't be disappointed.  After all, this is Halekulani.  Whatever you want, you will get!

Came here for after dinner drinks. Love the atmosphere and jazz. Watched a party get redirected to a table outside because someone wasn't wearing appropriate attire. I can't wait to come back for a date night with the hubby. The couches inside and the big fireplace just outside the lounge create quite a romantic setting. Besides cocktails, they have hot tea, ice cream, sorbet, and some pupus. Another plus...free valet!

The smoothness that drips off this place leaves you feeling like a million bucks covered in honey. You best be dressed up when you go in here, even if those old tourists are looking scrubby, don't YOU bring the caliber of this place down by thinking you can get away with it. Don't be a fool. Well, you can be a fool, but be a snazzy one.

Came here to celebrate one of my girlfriend's birthdays. We walked in around 8:00 and the place was very quiet and hardly anyone was there yet. (By 9:00 though it was starting to fill up) We took a seat near the piano and we were quickly brought pistachios and some olives. As our waitress was describing some of the cocktails, the topic of birthdays came up and conveniently I was able to slip in that we too were celebrating a birthday. (Then a whole conversation about Sagittarius pride came up and it was quite a funny diversion). Our waitress (Jessica) was incredibly sweet and attentive and she brought out a slice of their signature coconut cake with Happy Birthday written in chocolate and a candle. And unlike most places that give you a complimentary dessert, they were not at all stingy with the slice. On top of that, the pianist had by this time sat down and was getting ready, and he played a little happy birthday tune for my friend. I can't even describe how special all of that was!

I ordered the Pink Elephant which is by far one of the most tasty cocktails I've had. Coated with a ginger sugar rim, the alcohol is blended just right and they fill it up to the top. There's absolutely no skimping on their part of service and quality, so yes, you definitely get what you pay for.

For talented musicians and an incredibly atmospheric Waikiki getaway, Lewer's Lounge is a must for anyone you're trying to impress or share a special occasion with. Heck, just treat yourself to a Pink Elephant. You deserve it, especially if you made the effort to put heels or a tie on.

I love this place!  Stayed at the Halekulani a few years back and still remember this lounge for it's EXCELLENT cocktails (wish I could get that drink recipe again- I've wanted it ever since I left 2 or 3 years ago now?)  It was a great vibe, the music was awesome and there was great service.  I really loved this place.  I would highly recommend it! :)

This is by far my favorite place to go in Honolulu. A nice bottle of champagne accompanied by live piano, singing, and a good sax blower makes for the perfect start to a great night on the town.

The deserts here are wonderful like the Chocolate Fondue. Yes it is pricey but that's the whole reason to go to this place. Lewer's Lounge is the only place in Oahu that you can act like a rich person for a night and love every minute.

Normal patrons are about 40+, which make this a place to go if you are young hoping to meet someone with a taste for luxury. You may get lucky with an older lady if you play your cards right. But don't get to excited because most people are their with their significant others.

I have tried to get my friends to come here but they just do not appreciate this style of enjoyment. I guess it is a Hawaii thing.

I always order a bottle of champagne here and its kind of hit or miss on the service. But i'm really needy so I won't take away a star for that.

Now the trick is to get more people to come with me. haha
