6 reviews for Leucadia Beach Inn
What a quaint place to stay for a beach-side getaway from the city. The room has a small kitchen was adequate for a simple breakfast and sandwich from lunch without much planning. It had a homely feeling overall. If you are expecting all the bells and whistles of a 4 star hotel, you will be disappointed. It is a bare-bones yet quite sufficient place. Let's just say, we didn't go there for the room. Leucadia Beach Inn is located in a very rich earthy surfer community that made for a relaxing authentic California weekend. Be sure to visit the Panakin coffee shop down the road. Thankfully the place would let us come with our dog (for $55 for the stay). The location couldn't be better. A few minutes walk from beach access. Very quite and quaint.
Hints to make your stay a success:
Make sure you leave a message letting them know what time you will be arriving, so they will be expecting you. Seriously leave the message or you might be waiting from what I have heard.
If you need something, ask. the lady in room 11 if there is no one at the desk. (She seemed to have some affiliation with the front desk man...Mother??)
You have to have a sense of humor, history and a fondness for "kitsch" in order to stay at this motel. The hotel is located off of old historic highway 101 just north of downtown Encinitas.
Yes it's true, the floor is spanish tile, the matress was soft and well used. They do have a little kitchenette with a stove, but no pots and pans, just a few assorted dishes and glasses that don't match. The overhead lights gave the room a cold unhospitable feel so I avoided using these. They also have a fridge. No WiFi but I was able to hijack some WiFi signal from a neighboring inn. The TV itself was an old 19 incher with a DVD player that didn't work.
The owner/manager of the place looks like he may be an aging hippie or surf bum. He is kind of quiet but he was polite to me. The tiny lobby has about 100 books that you can help yourself to if you want some reading. The rooms themselves were clean. No offensive odors or sights in my room. The Inn itself is made up of a dozen traditional 50's style motel rooms. There is a central parking area and a few knick knacks to make it appear a little homey. The clientelle were generally old beach bums or hot rodders with antique cars. The night I was here, there was a 1940's Mercury convertable and an old 60's Buick Station Wagon. I call them the ponytail, goatee and sleeveless T Shirt crowd.
This is not a hotel where you can spend several days in and be waited on. It is strictly a place to sleep and relax in between shopping or going to the beach. Those used to Embassy Suite type settings will be sorely disappointed. But if you want something different with a sense of history..and maybe something you can laugh about at home, this place would be ideal. Although I enjoyed staying here, I can honestly say that one night of this place is plenty. You would have to have a hell of a sense of humor or history to stay several nights.

I have not actually stayed here, but would very much like to. The problem? My boyfriend called them all day Thursday and Friday, left a message and now it is Monday and noone has called us back. I also just called hoping I would have better luck, but noone answered the phone. WTF?
Tuesday--still havent heard back.

Believe it or not this quaint Inn used to be a dump. Since the new owners took it over they've done a fabulous job at remodeling making the entire grounds very special and appealing. Each room is uniquely styled with the idea that there really is a place away from home that feels just as cozy.
It is a medium-priced inn featuring Spanish tile floors, modern tub baths, kitchenettes, color cable T.V. WiFi Internet connections are also available.
All rooms are non-smoking but offer plush five-star linens and towels and shutters to match.
This inn is only a few blocks to the beach and within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
The service is warm and friendly. One of my favorite choices for putting up visiting guests. You can check out all of the rooms on the Web: http://www.leucadiabea...

I am not entirely sure how this place got two positive reviews as it was the absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It all started when I attempted to reach the front desk to confirm the reservation I had made on http://Expedia.com. The front desk never picked up the phone (even though I called several times at odd hours of the day) and I was forced to leave two messages before I was honored with a call back. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a sign that said "we will be back at 7:15". Needless to say, this was very inconvenient and frustrating. The stay only went downhill from there and the list could go on and on, so I will only mention a few highlights. The bed was the most uncomfortable, rickety bed (double not a queen as advertised) we've ever slept on, the floor was ceramic tile so it felt as though we were sleeping in a kitchen, the air conditioner barely functioned and the face of the unit kept falling off, there was no phone, no daily housekeeping service, old and mismatched towels, and the alarm clock was broken. We asked for hangers to hang up our clothes and an iron to get ready for a wedding. No hangers...he sent us to a nearby store to get some...and the iron was broken and dripped brown rusty sludge. In short, this was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. The website and pictures of the exterior are very deceiving. We tried to find another hotel but everything was booked. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from the Leucadia Beach Inn.

So funny this place. It was just like the other people that reviewed it said. We got there around 4:30 pm and there was no one ther at the front desk. Tihs is friday too. I already had a rez and i had read that other people had the same exper. So I told my wife no big deal this is what they do here. Anyway so we go out to dinner and come back to check in. Sean gives me the key to the room and we go to unpack our stuff. We get into the room which is non-smoking, only to find the smell of cigarrettes so strong it was like a smoker had been living there for 40 plus years. No big , me and the wife laugh it off. Cheap room right. Then she lays down on the bed but its one of those military style bunks with springs on the bottom no mattress. So basically the room was crap. But whatever we didnt come for the room. As we are unpacking the lights go out in our room. When the clerk comes to our room to see what is wrong he blames it on us for running the 2 portable heaters that were in the room. Anyway after about 20 minutes of sitting in the dark he asks us if we want another room. I talked to my wife and she informs me she wants to leave and never see this place again. Ok so we tell him we are leaving and then guess what the lights come back on. Well the place scared us off good and we took off in a jiff. Never to look back happier than wever even though it ruined our weekend. The place looks nice, but expect to have a crazy stay. with unexpected suprises. No bugs though. To put it short this is a roach motel where you might not feel safe but your wallett will be fat.
