My son has multiple life-threatening food allergies. The cake we ordered was delicious! Highly recommend.

Review from Lorrie M.
I got the bf's last birthday cake from here after looking up places that made good red velvet cakes and stumbled upon this place close to my house.
I was a little hesitant at first since it was allergy friendly and he doesn't really have any special dietary needs, but it seemed interesting from the other yelp reviews and descriptions that I wanted to give it a try. I wanted to give the bf a more designed cake than just your average bakery or Asian cake as we usually get so I opted for some graphics and sent it along with my order request.
Surprisingly, I was contacted immediately and my order went in smoothly. The person even found an awesome graphic (better than the one I sent along) representing the Domo I wanted on there and the cake turned out great.
They only take cash or check, which can be a little bit of a pain since I paid over $60 for my custom cake (it was just round with graphics) which I found to be a bit on the pricey side as it wasn't a large cake at all, but it was a nice idea.
I don't think I will come back, but it was cool to try and always nice to be able to specify things like gluten free, dairy free, egg free, etc. and still have the cake coming out tasting like ... well cake! -

I have the pleasure of working with this Bakery ROCK STAR of sorts.
I frequently peer into the staff lounge for goodies when I know Amanda is on site, and if there is something out, I definitely take enough for two servings. First, for my sweet-toothed-self, and second, for the Miss Piggy in me. Yeay! Where's my Kermie?!
I believe I have eaten both allergy friendly stuff and the more traditional baked goods that she has prepared.
*I can't even name the items I have had for lack of knowledge, but I love an almond toffee thing with chocolate ganache on top and raspberries decorating the top, buttery croissants, and these amazing napoleon hats with pistachios inside.
You don't have to order allergy friendly items, but you can, so that is the big plus! Amanda loves to bake with a passion, and you can taste it in her unique creations.
Plus, you gotta support our up and coming small businesses in the Bay Area!Listed in: Sweet Tooth

I am so so so impressed with Let Them Eat Cake! We ordered a gluten free red velvet cake with reduced sugar cream cheese frosting for my cousin who has celiacs 30th birthday. This cake was a huge hit! We shouldn't have told anyone it was gluten free, it was sooooo delicious! The look on her face when she cut into the cake and realized it was gluten free was priceless!
I would give them 5 stars, but the pick up location is a little awkward, a townhouse in Milpitas by the great mall. There isn't much parking and the lane is very narrow. Having said that, Jason is great to work with, very accommodating and friendly. As far as the cake goes, I would give 10 stars! Hopefully enough people will discover this place and they will need to open up a store-front or something :) -

My niece (she's 9) has a life-threatening allergy to milk. We wanted her to feel special and included in the wedding process (as she couldn't eat wedding cake). So, we ordered her some cupcakes and cookies for her to enjoy on our wedding weekend. For 40 dollars we got six cupcakes, and a dozen cookies. Not too bad, considering that we wanted NO MILK PRODUCTS.
She was blown away. It was the first time in her life that she was able to eat chocolate (some special variety). She loved the cookies (as did her two brothers). And the cupcakes were a HIT. -

Some lactose-intolerant friends of mine ordered a large cake from here, as well as some vegan vanilla w/chocolate frosting cupcakes. They went over well with the crowd. Being the token vegan, I got to take a handful of leftover vegan cupcakes home to freeze and enjoy for weeks. They tasted delicious after 15 seconds in the microwave!
So when my birthday rolled around, I decided I was going to order up some Berry Basket vegan cupcakes: vanilla cupcake with blackberry frosting and raspberry filling topped with fresh berries. The cupcakes were beautiful (will post a photo soon), but looks aren't everything. Minimum order is one dozen. The cupcakes cost $3.75/each ~ $45 for a dozen. More basic cupcake requests are ~$3/cupcake or $36/dozen. Yikes. I really was expecting lower prices than that, especially since this business is run out of their townhouse near the Great Mall and the cupcakes are relatively small-sized.
They definitely tasted good and my non-vegan family members were impressed they didn't taste like crap. And of course they were stunning. But honestly, I had higher expectations and felt let down. The frosting tasted very buttercream-y (not a fan of buttercream in the first place) and were not berry-enough. Just seemed like it lacked flavor. And the cupcakes were 50/50 frosting to cake. It was like if you took a cupcake liner, filled it with frosting, and dumped it upside down on to the top of a cupcake. A disgusting ratio of frosting to cake. The cupcakes' cake itself is the same as the other batch I tried -- very fluffy and dry. I thought the other batch of cupcakes were just stale or not doing well after being in the freezer, but this fresh batch tasted the same way. Personally I prefer moist cake. Thank goodness my mom brought some coconut milk ice cream to serve with the cupcakes.
I'm totally going to H-E-double-hockey-sticks for saying this, but I don't think I'll use this bakery again. I'm all for supporting local, struggling mom-and-pop businesses, but the quality just doesn't live up to their prices and it was totally inconvenient to drive out to their house. (I wasn't going to pay them for delivery when it was already costing me a small fortune for the dozen cupcakes.) I imagine this bakery is great for people with serious or unusual allergies, but for vegans and lactose-intolerant folks there's better tasting, higher quality, larger portioned, competitively priced (if not lower priced), and more convenient vegan baked goods available at Whole Foods. There's some to-die-for third-party celiac-friendly cupcakes available at Whole Foods, too. I'm not going to settle for "not bad for being vegan." For $45/dozen, I'm expecting taste-bud-orgasmic-quality cupcakes.Comment from Jason K. of Let Them Eat Cake! 11/14/2009

My brother is vaguely vegan (he still eats fish) so my mom decided to get him a vegan cake for his birthday. My mom also has a food allergy to corn (found in most powdered sugar) so the allergy-free route seemed like the way to go.
We ordered the german chocolate cake, which meant it couldn't be completely corn-free, but the icing and cake itself was, so that was good enough for my mom.
The cake was great, didn't taste "vegan". To me, a lot of vegan baked goods kind of taste like play-dough, am I crazy?
The icing was a little bit weird. It wasn't very sweet, which some people like, I'm sure, but it was really firm. So firm icing without sweetness really makes you realize "Hey, I'm just taking bites of pure margarine."
This could just be the corn-free frosting though, so take that with a grain of salt. (vegans eat salt, right?) -

They are great to work with!
A friend knew how much I missed Mexican pastries since going vegan and so he emailed them. They said to give them a couple days and they came back telling him they could do it. So on my birthday I got YUMMY Mexican sweetbread and they added it to the list of items they make!
it IS pricey but it is also a bakery AND a specialty!
Wish they had a shop! :DListed in: Gilroy/San Jose Vegan Eats!

Wow! The best vegan cake ever! Perhaps even the best cake ever! For my girlfriend's birthday, she had a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, and it was simply amazing. I have had my fair share of vegan cakes and this one blows the rest of them out of the water. Between this place and Cinnaholic in Berkeley, the vegan dessert world has improved significantly.

I ordered this cake for a group birthday because one of the gals is extremely lactose intolerant. To say that I had doubts about the delectability of this cake would put it mildly. I've eaten all kinds of "healthy", dairy-free, gluten-free cakes and most have made me want to spit it out. We ordered the red-velvet (dairy and egg free) and it was AMAZING.... The red velvet was moist and just the right amount of sweetness. The "cream cheese" frosting had a hint of lemon and was vibrant next to the cake. I really enjoyed this cake and would definitely order from them again.
They only accept cash or personal checks. Also all orders need to be placed in advance since they do not have a store front. -

This review is long overdue!
I was looking for someone that could make eggless mini-cupcakes for our wedding. I did taste tests at almost 15 different bakeries in the Bay Area but "Let Them Eat Cake" was definitely the most professional, reasonably priced, and the tastiest! I ended up doing classic chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with alternating chocolate and vanilla icing.
Our wedding was 3 months ago, and we still have guests raving about the cupcakes (Actually it was a recent phone call from a friend who was reminiscing about the cupcakes that reminded me that I have to write a review!) Most of our guests just couldn't believe how moist they were given that they were eggless.
Without a doubt, I will definitely go back to Let Them Eat Cake for more baked goods! -

I had such a good experience with them. They were very accommodating. I had some questions that they quickly got answered for me. The person the cake was for absolutely loved it. She has not been able to eat icing or cake for as long as she can remember. I would definitely use them again.

Thank you so much for the moist and yummy red velvet cake you made for Andres' surprise party! I'm wishing right now that I could have just one more bite! When we were cleaning up at the end of the party, everyone was grabbing every last bit with our fingers. Finger-lickin good! Who needs a fork!! I can't wait to order more. Our anniversary's comin' up next! (wink! wink!)

These guys are great! I was looking all over Fremont for a bakery that would be able to make a cake that would meet the diverse dietary requirements of our friends and family and they delivered in spades. They were very accommodating given the last minute timeframe and produced a cake that not only met the basic requirements but tasted great. We ordered an orange cake with vanilla frosting and everyone loved it. (Even my picky foodie wife...) I would definitely recommend these guys.

My sister is vegan, and for her engagement party, I search high and low for delicious cake. When I showed up at Amanda's house for our VERY intimate and incredibly well-organized tasting, I knew I had called the right place. The cakes are delicious, the frostings even BETTER! My picks for cake are CERTAINLY the coconut and chocolate cakes, although I enjoyed the spice and lemon cakes almost as well. My only suggestion to Amanda was to look more into the vanilla cake, as it's a bit dry and not quite spongy enough. For frostings, I suggest the coffee and maple frostings. Delicious! The cake and cupcakes we ordered we decorated adorably and exactly met when I had requested--and more! I will certainly be ordering from her again.

Great business! We were looking for a place to provide peanut free birthday cakes. We ordered the chocolate 2-layer cake w/ strawberry filling and the Cat in the Hat design. The cake looked and tasted great. We were very happy with it - as were our guests. We'll be coming back regularly.
Glad to have them in the area! -

Great customer service! Jason was very helpful. We ordered a milk and wheat free chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. My son absolutely loved it not only because Lightning McQueen was on the cake but also because it was scrumptious!

I order twice from them. First time a vegan (also gluten free cake) and second time vegan cup cake. I was blown away by how tasty their cup cake was! They are moist and soft and not too sweet, just perfect. You do not have to be Vegan to like their cake. I highly recommend them and hope they'll open an actual shop so I can go there more often :-)

My daughter has a peanut and tree nut allergy, so finding bakery items from traditional places is next to impossible. I was thrilled to find this baker! For a graduation party, I ordered a black forest cake, vanilla cupcakes, and some orange/cranberry muffins. All were delicious. The guests commented that they would never know a difference in taste or quality from a regular bakery. They work out of their home, but everything was handled very professionally. I will definitely use them again for future events!

This is a very belated review of a wonderful gluten free/dairy free cake that I ordered. Here's the email that I sent to the owners:
Just wanted to write and tell you and Amanda that the cake
was AMAZING! Not only did my kids love it but all the other
children came up asking for seconds and one Mom that was
there has a dairy allergy and when she found out it was a
dairy free cake, she jumped to have a piece. Everyone
commented on how amazing the frosting was....yum!
Thank you again for helping us to make our kids birthday
party a very special celebration. We will definitely be ordering
from you again and 2 other Moms that have allergies in their
family asked for your contact info as well. -

Anyone know of an awesome place like this in Los Angeles? My hubby has a big sweet tooth and was just diagnosed with dairy, soy, egg and wheat allergies :-( Would be great to get him a cupcake he could actually eat and I wouldn't have to bake......This is great!

"Let Them Eat Cake" was a vendor in the Stanford Celiac Conference May 22, 2010 with samples. I have to say their "wedding/special event" cake was one of the best cakes I have ever tasted (including those that have dairy and gluten.) You would never know that this cake was missing anything. When we have a special family event, you bet we will order our cake form Let Them Eat Cake. Thank you, thank you for serving the Celiac and food intolerant and allergy communities.

I saw this patisserie yelped almost a year ago and I vowed to myself that I would order my birthday cake from them. I loooooooove birthday cake and I haven't been able to eat it since I was diagnosed with Celiac disease (no gluten for me!). So this year, for my birthday, my husband ordered me an Orange Blossom birthday cake and it was TO DIE FOR. OMG, it was delicious. And it was decorated beautifully. I'm now thinking up reasons to have cake. I'm racking my brain over here. I'll think of something. I've gotta have that cake again.

We just ordered a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting (12 inch round) for my son's 3rd birthday (he's allergic to peanuts and eggs). It was amazing! Everyone at the party loved the cake. It was moist and really good. The texture is slightly different from cake made with egg (maybe a bit more moist - hard to describe), but very good. I'm sure no one would have know it was a vegan cake if we hadn't told them. Also, the decorations were so cute! We requested Oswald (from the cartoon) and they did a great job. I would definitely order from Let Them Eat Cake again. The cake was much, much better than anything I have attempted using egg replacer.

This is the best dairy and egg free cake I've ever eaten! My son is allergic to dairy and egg products so we have had quite a time finding store bought treats for him. I have been searching high and low for a bakery that can supply us with safe, yummy treats that appear as though they come from a store (as opposed to the ones I make at home) and this is THE place! Even my mom (who HATES allergy-safe baked goods) commented on how good the cake and frosting were. My husband said that this wasn't just a good allergy-free cake, it was a really good cake...period! We are so thankful for all these yummy treats!

My daughter absolutely LOVED the eggless cake we ordered from "Let Them Eat Cake". We thought we would not be able to give our daughter an individual sized cake like all of her egg-eating friends were having. Let Them Eat Cake made a specially sized cake so that she could have one for her 1st birthday. They even offered to deliver the cake! The cake was ready on-time and looked fantastic with the decorations we requested. Our daughter loved the cake so much that she ate the whole thing! Let Them Eat Cake really made her first birthday a day to remember.

Jason is a very considerate guy. I called him the day before my sisters engagement party and requested him to make me a special cake with 2 rings on it. At first he said he could not but he tried and accommodated my request. I ordered "Razzle Dazzle" and the cake was absolutely wonderful So soft and fluffy that all my guests loved it. IF ever anyone is ordered a cake for a special occasion, this place is the Stop for you.
