It's 2am. You've just been bused from LA because San Diego Airport was closed due to fog. You finally get to your b&b... and it's closed.
So you steal their wireless to post a bad review on yelp. And the wireless goes out. Sigh. It doesn't pay to be malicious.
Pros:
- if you're in town for a wedding, location is convenient
- the staff is kind and they'll hold your bag for you all day while you wander around
Con:
- this is not a b&b
- Monet? O'Keefe? Art isn't what you're going to associate with this place. It's dingy.
Let me first say that if there were an option for a ")" star rating, that's what I would give this place. I have 10 reasons that you should absolutely NOT stay here. I usually would never place such a negative post, but this must be said so people don't make the same mistake we did.
1. It is DIRTY.
2. The room we were shown smelled like wet dog.
3. The bathtub/shower looked like it had not been washed in years.
4. The front office has a sign that says "Dogs are children with fur" Um I don't think so. I love dogs, but not in by bed on vacation!
5. They are under a constant remodel.
6. The "ocean view" means you can see the ocean when standing on your tiptoes at the end of your balcony which also looks over a pile of garbage from their remodel.
7. It looks and feels like a seedy motel. Rates should just be $20 so then at least you know what you are really in for.
8. The sheets smelled funny.
9.We were the ONLY people there.
10. The Hilton at Torrey Pines is the same price.
So we did not actually end up sleeping there. We expressed our concerns and the guy who worked there (who happened to be very nice) gave us a refund. We pretty much ran out the door straight to the Hilton which was the exact same price.
I would not trust their pictures online. This is not a B&B by any means and I truly believe the place should be knocked down. We would have rather slept in the car or drove back to San Jose before staying there.
Don't go. You will regret it. I promise.

Good value, unique hotel for coastal town. There are several rooms decorated loosely to evoke artistic themes, a few with glimpses of an ocean view. Rooms are small but adequate. The inn is located just 5-10 min walk from the beach and main strip of Del Mar. The owner and her staff are very friendly, providing free coffee, pastries, and fruit each morning. There is limited wifi at the Inn but we were kindly provided a cable to connect our laptops in our room which was too far from the wifi hub to pick up signal. Would definitely recommend to those traveling on a moderate budget (rooms are not cheap, starting at $160) but still wanting to be near the beach.
I've lived in Cardiff 20 years, and how this place escaped my eye I'll never know. If you love funky, spanish-style and artistic, you'll love this place. If not, c'est la vie.
