Not exactly Nona's home cooking, but still pretty good.  You just have to know what to get.

Went here with the boy to use a http://restaurant.com certificate.  We started with the Fried Mozzarella thicks, not sticks.  They are blocks of fried mozzarella and are tastier than your average mozz stick at a hot dog stand.  Be warned...they are huge.

My one concern is that this place is serving too much food.  With my entree I got two sides, a large salad and rigatoni with meat sauce.  Just too much.  One side for the same price would have been fine.  My main dish was blackened catfish and I loved it.  The seasoning was great and the fish was cooked perfectly.  They serve some funky and unnecessary sides with it.  Just stick with the yummy catfish.  I would not order another dish with their meat sauce, it's just American/Italian sauce and not that great.  Salad was your normal side salad.

The boy did a build your own burger w/ mac n' cheese on the side.  He liked both.  He especially liked the little dessert served with every meal.  I don't do dessert, so we'll take his word for it.

I will come back, but won't order any Italian gravy dishes.  Ciao!

Food used to always be good back in the day, this location though, the service is absolutely terrible. Took over 5 minutes for an employee to acknowledge my girlfriend and I standing in the front of the restaurant waiting to be seated. Once we were seated by a random server it took 10 minutes for another random server to come to our table. The food came out rather quickly, good minestrone soup, good appetizer (portabella mushroom bruschetta). The entrees came out on the quick as well, but upon the first forkful of food it was obvious why. The Baked Mac and Cheese appears and tastes like it's made with velvetta cheese, now, I like velvetta when I'm making Mac and cheese in my microwave at home, not when I'm at a supposed "Traditional Italian restaurant". The 5 cheese lasagna appeared to contain Ricotta cheese and that's it, it was also bland at best.

Sadly, this isn't the Leona's I remember growing up, their food used to be legendary.

The food is awful at this Leona's.  Maybe the other ones are better.  I don't know, I have only been to this one.  We use to always eat at this restaurant - it is walking distance from where we live and the food use to be great.  But not anymore.  I had the worst spinach pizza.  No spinach and no flavor.  My husband had a sausage pizza.  His had a lot of flavor - it was sour. Luckily, he didn't get sick.

I contacted the restaurant through their web site.  They encourage contact if you're not happy.  I got many apologizes and the promise of a gift card.  I was told I shouldn't have to pay for food I didn't like.  Six months later and still no gift card.

Even though it is convenient, we will not be going back.  Too bad. It use to be one of our favorites.

1 star for the food. And nothing else. This is about the delivery service only, but judging from the reviews, I don't want to dine-in.

First we tried through grubhub but we were having issues with the app so I decided to give them a call. I don't know WHAT was taking orders but it took repeating our number 5 times, same with the address, before my guy got frustrated and said to forget it. And the fun doesn't end there...

So we got the grubhub app working and tried again. The food shows up with a delivery guy standing outside our door yelling. Not calling like the delivery information told him to, just standing under the window SHOUTING until the bf went outside (after I opened the window to tell him he was coming out). Of all the times we've had food delivered, this was definitely a first.

    Never ordering from them again!

I've eaten at Leona's and been a fan for years until last night. I will never order their food again. About an hour after eating their avacado burger I was stuck in the bathroom every thirty minutes for the rest of the night and into the morning. I won't go into detail but IT WASN'T CUTE.

The Leona's in Lakeview had a well known reputation for excellent pizza and Italian specialties back in the 1980's. It was an affordable place to be scene.

I think lately Leona's bit off more than they could chew, expanding so rapidly and now it seems to me rather a bore and a tad overpriced for what it really is. The level of perfection isn't what it used to be.

In addition, the ridiculously tacky awnings that boast of shindigs and soirees!??! ..... Maybe they are expecting Dolly Parton or the late great, Minnie Pearl to show up for lunch? .... This is Chicago! I never heard a local say let's have a shindig! LOL Chicago isn't Nashville, Tennessee!

While this pizza place suffers the blues, Roots down the street is currently kickin' butt at the moment.

    Stay tuned.

First time eating here - we ordered delivery of a thin-crust specialty pizza.  It arrived more quickly than they estimated, so that was good.  The pizza exceeded our expectations (especially considering the poor Yelp reviews) and was really delicious.

One thing: ordering the pizza online was really cumbersome and not-user friendly.  Other than that, I'm kind of surprised people have such negative reviews of this place, but then again, this was only our first time eating here.

I was starving and asked my boss for advice in finding a place in the Wicker Park/Ukranian Village area to grab a bite.  I was really looking for a Philly Cheesesteak, but when he couldn't recommend a place for that, he pointed me towards Leona's.  I walked in and immediately noticed a gorgeous setting and realized that this was an ideal place to bring a date (too bad I was already there).
My server, Christina, was thoughtful, helpful, and infectiously smiling.  On her recommendation I ordered an avocado burger and the broccoli olio (sp?) with a cup of chicken noodle soup to start things off.  I started my romantic candle light dinner for one with the soup which was really good (despite being light on noodles), and before I knew it I had to have eaten at least three pounds of the best food that I have had since I have moved to Chicago.  I will definitely be coming back and hopefully next time I will be bringing that date.

Though the food isn't really that bad. The ramparts for getting the actual order right are WELL below subpar. I don;t know how or where they hired those lackeys from. But if they get their delivery orders more precise, That would be a lot better. But in the mean time, Their orders are relayed worse than what the 3 Stooges would do in those skits.

Huh, I don't see how this place averages 2.5 stars. I think that's a little harsh. 3 stars, I can see. I think this is a 3 star place. I'm giving it 4 stars because my lasagna was really, really tasty. They also had something on the menu for my gf that's vegan. So, that was also a plus.

This is also a place you can go and hang out, have a few beers, and play some pool. What's not to love?

I guess I wouldn't go across town just to go here, but if you live in the area you won't be disappointed.

I've been here dozens of times both to dine in and get a pizza to go. The place evokes memories of a slower more relaxed time in our lives. Soft lighting, some old videos and concert footage from the 50's through the 80's are on the flatacreens and if there is a local sporting event on they put it on. The pizza is delicious and has always been consistent. Ingredients are fresh and it's cooked until the cheese has those few golden burns all around. Sheer perfection. My 2 favorites are "The 1950's traditional" and the "Italian Meats." Traditional has sausage, mushroom, green pepper, and onion. The Italian meats has sausage, pepperoni, and meatball.
Last night we tested the ability of Leonas to handle a larger party with 15 people. They got the table fixed up quickly and the drinks and food to us promptly as well. I was very impressed. Although we were a large party and the gratuity was added already, the waitress took good care of us, and made sure our experience was a good one. They have a great selection of beers from the typical to micro-brews that you have not heard of. I couldn't resist Sam Adams on tap. Great pairing for pizza and calamari. I'm sure I'll be back soon for take out or dining in. Thanks to Groupon I saved $20. That definitely softened the blow of a $200+ tab.

This review is for the delivery aspect of Leona's. Something always goes wrong when I order from this place. It will either be the wrong order, the packaging is extremely messy, or there will be mold on the food. yes, I said say mold! I will never order from Leona's. If I wanted moldy food, I would reach for what's in the back of my refrigerator.

Cool ambiance for a chain restaurant.  The sky lighting is nice, and the layout is pretty cool.  The monitors play 80's rock performances, which is also neat.

The food is not the best unfortunately.

Severely disappointed!!! I live 2 blocks from this location and have ordered out a few times. Tonight my wife and I decided to go and eat at the restaurant. There were only 4 other tables with people. We looked through the menu and decided on dinner but our waiter never came. We sat there for over 10 minutes after looking at our menus without anyone coming by to bring bread or welcome us or take our order. Meanwhile, there were 4 waitstaff standing around in the back.  Twenty minutes after being ignored, we decided to get up and leave. We passed 2 servers on the way and and again were not acknowledged.  I refuse to give money to this establishment and all my food orders will be taken elsewhere!

This review is for the takeout/delivery portion of Leona's Restaurant only.

While taking a walk one night with my husband, we came across this Leona's location and realized that neither one of us had ever tried any of the Leona's.  We grabbed a menu and looked it over while walking back home.  Everything sounded great so we decided to order it for dinner that evening.

We enjoyed the food so much the first time that we ordered it for takeout/delivery several other times.  I usually order the Turkey Cobb Salad which is ginormous and always fresh and good.  This comes with a small loaf of bread that is always soft and warm.  My husband is not as routine as me and tries different entrees, but has never complained about any of them.  One thing he always orders, however, is the soup...he LOVES the soup here even on the hottest summer day.

We have never dined within the restaurant so I can't speak about the atmosphere or the like, but I definitely recommend this place for any takeout meal.

My only complaint...and it's not really a complaint...just me being fussy...is that it takes 45 minutes to an hour for delivery.   That is the longest delivery time for any area restaurant that we order from and I am usually STARVING by the time it arrives!!!

I went to a Duppies meeting here, which there were a lot of people there in the group but otherwise not too many other customers.

    - It took them forever to finally come back and get chairs and tables, people had to keep looking around for different wait staff to finally get them. The only time I see people sharing chairs with each other is when I'm breaking up a fight during musical chairs at a summer camp.

    - As well as getting our drinks and food, I think it took approximately 2 hours until finally everyone at the table got food and at least 4 people ordered salads.

    - Granted, loud music shouldn't be a problem at a Deaf event, but the decibel level was noticed by hearing and non-hearing. I try to keep the copious amounts of Ke$ha music I have to hear left at Walgreen's and my drunken neighbors.

    - Other reviews said the food tasted "old" which I had trouble understanding until I had my garlic bread. I ordered it because I figured garlic bread was something easy to not fuck up. Old did not begin to describe it. I've made frozen garlic bread that tasted fresher and less nauseating. Good thing I paid over 5 bucks for it.

    - They rarely came around to ask us if we needed drinks or anything, the service was relatively non-existent. It was impossible to even obtain checks because of the disorganized checks at front of the house.

Well... they do have pool tables. Apparently their burgers are good.

But I've had better service at a packed Planet Hollywood.

    BIG FAN!
I go to this location A Lot with family and friends. Where to I start hmmmm...ok

The environment is perfect for all occasions..date, meeting, girls night out, etc

The things to try are the KICK ASS GARLIC BREAD, The giant Cheese Sticks and.....everything else.

The pasta portions are huge, the sauces are great, and to top it off their drinks are strong (at least all the ones we have ever ordered). If you are looking for a good Italian place with a spacious environment, THIS is the place for you.

The first night I spent in my apartment down the street, I had Leona's delivery and it was awesome. After being perpetually disappointed with eat-in service, though, we stopped going. Once, we ordered two salads and waited in a nearly empty restaurant for an hour. Not only were we starving, but our drinks were not being replenished either. Salads finally came, there was some apologizing, but no other offers. It's a shame, because you can't beat the convenience. We tried pick up, but after waiting the obligatory 30 minutes, I walked in, empty restaurant, no one greeted me at the door. So I stood there until someone noticed me. Then it was another 15 minutes. Got home (2 blocks away) and the food was cold.

Something about that first night in my first apartment makes me keep ordering from Leona's but that's weird and no reflection on the service or the food. We've had delivery since then and it's been hit or miss.

Stick to pizza and chicken. It might be cold, or it might be awesome. Crap shoot. Apparently three stars means "A-OK."  I think that may be a little over zealous, but I feel like a dick if I give a two star rating and continue to order from there. Which I will.

I know I've written this review before.

Look, I loved Leona's. It was the first place we ate after relocating here from Detroit. Yummy bread, calamari = crack, excellent service, and the hostess is from Livonia. We were on our way to a great love affair.

That was two years ago. I'll never be back to this location, if any of them. It's been a downward spiral and I never know what kind of treatment  I am going to be subjected to.

I took my parents here and I was so embarassed. The food came out in batches. By the time the last person was served, half the table was finished eating. I took my almosthusband's parents here and had a fantastic experience. I took them back - and we saw our waitress exactly twice. She took our order, she brought us the check. That was it. It was like a slap in the face.

The last few times we went, there was always "we have new management" as the excuse. The bread recipe was different every time.

Leona's, I want to love you again. I gave you two stars for nostalgia and excellent calamari, not to mention your once-upon-a-time addictive pasta bowl. I just can't take the abuse and neglect anymore. It takes two people to make a healthy relationship. I wish I could say it was me and not you.

i think we both know, it's all you.

I really do not like this place, so why do I continue to order from here?  Well there would be a few reasons.  First, they deliver and are close to me.  Second, they are open late.  If it weren't for the psychedelic salad, which honestly is there saving grace, I would *never* order from here.  I haven't had one other item from here that is worth the money or the calories.

Unless it's late and you're hungry, I would tell you to go to a different place.

Alright, now that I'm a vegan I have to absolutely flag Leona's for their menu lies.

That Big Fat Vegan Burger that I've been ordering for years, turns out the SOY cheese on it has Casein (dairy), and the bun is an EGG bun.
What the hell Leonas. I actually have health problems caused by dairy.

Why would you say, Vegan on the menu, and then serve a dairy infused sandwich? I'm never coming back.

The food here is great! I feel like their pastas are good. Their sandwiches are delicious. My boyfriend really likes their thin crust pizza. The ingredients taste fresh, particularly the chicken. Also, their portions are huge and did I mention delicious?
My one complaint is that I have eaten at several different Leona's locations, and the service is consistently subpar. Difficulty getting water or soda refills. When you walk in, several waitstaff will just watch you and noone will offer to seat you for a while (even if they are not busy). Also, Ive had to wait 10-15 minutes just to tell someone I was there to pick up food to go.

Though our delivery came extremely fast, I can't say it was a good thing.  I immediately thought to myself "no way could they have made to order".  Our food was decent but wasn't hot and lacked any real flavor or Italian flare.
Portions are HUGE so dinner for two can be one entree.  It comes with bread and we even got a piece of cake with it.  But really, no amount of food can hide the lack of the "wow" factor.

Oh, Leona's! How I apologize for neglecting thee. After a breakup, the closest Leona's was off limits since it was across the street from the ex's place. Well, enough time has passed and I'm back on the Leona's saddle again. They dole out hearty portions of salad, wraps, and pizza. I love their minestrone, but their pay by the piece cheese bricks are, hands down, the best thing on the menu. I have discovered that the perfect number to eat is 1.5, so go there with a friend and order 3 to split.

The one downside to Leona's is that their red sauces are made with beef stock, which I think is inconsiderate not to point out to vegetarian diners. I am not 100% sure about this, but the two waitresses I asked said that the marinara and spicy arribata sauces were made with beef stock. With all the dietary/religious concerns, I think that all restaurants should point out if a sauce contains any kind of animal stock, especially when their menu says that they cater to the closeted vegetarians.

Tasty little lenacakes are the most memorable part of my experience with Leona's - nothing beats $.89 for a wee bit of brownie with a cheescake topping.

Lenacakes does not a meal (or at least a healthy meal make). So, I rounded out my order with the big fat juicy chicken breast tenders (and no, I didn't stick in all those adjectives, that is, in fact, what they're called). I don't know if I'd stick all those great descriptors on what was delivered, but it wasn't bad (especially when slathered in honey mustard).

They have a large menu, so even the pickiest eaters are gonna find something they could like here. Delivery was within the time promised, and the prices aren't too ungodly - so good news there.

This isn't a place I would necessarily seek out - but it's a nice fallback when hunger strikes.

I ordered take out from this Leona's last week and the host/server decided they were entitled to add their own gratuity on to the check.  This was TAKE OUT.  I called to have the problem corrected, and they are giving me the run around.

Adding gratuity on to a check is stealing.  Best part- They added more than a 20% gratuity on to the take out order, so somehow my $42 take out cost me $53.

    Really a bad experience.

Best part of the night was the bartender carding me. The beer was fine at the bar. Once my party arrived, we were quickly seated (the place was 75% empty) and given menus. We ordered up our drinks, and some appetizers.

So we're enjoying our evening, and I notice something in my water glass. The place is pretty dark, so I say, "ew, there's something in my water glass" to my co-worker.

    "What is it?"
(I grab the candle on the table and hold it over my glass so I can see)
"It's a roach. Ew." No shit, it was a roach. Legs, antenae, and grossness.

So i inform our waitress that there is a roach in my glass. Not that big a deal, and she is rightfully embarrassed. She gets me another glass of water.

The food comes, it was fine, not memorable.

This place could have been a 3 star review that night. But I was expecting at least a visit from a manager, asking me if everything else was ok. I mean, I don't expect a comp on my Moz sticks, or a free round at the table, but they would have for sure at least gotten the place back to a 3 star review.  All I got was another glass of water.

I should have checked Yelp before we went to this place. I will not be back.

I know this location has taken a lot of flack with the reviews, and I think they've noticed, because they have REALLY stepped it up at this location.

The service was great! They even came by to give us free samples of different types of pizzas.

The food was amaaazing. The portions are HUGE, so you can be sure you'll never leave hungry.

Everyone was very nice. They're obviously going out of their way to improve the image of this particular location. I suggest everyone give them another chance. I will DEFINITELY be back! :)

I used to have friends that love coming here all of the time.

    we are no longer friends.

I'm sure at some point in time this place was quaint and cute, and even the food was delicious, maybe...or not, but it still seems to pull people into it and stays in business for years...this speaks volumes.

just so many other italian pizza joints so much better is all I'm saying.

I've only experienced the delivery side of Leona's on Augusta, but I've never had a bad experience. When I'm craving a burger and fries and don't feel like leaving the house Leona's BBQ burger has always pulled through! Usually I shy away from ordering fries from a takeout/delivery place because they almost always end up a soggy mess. Leona's puts their fries in a cardboard box, not styrofoam or plastic, so they hold up well.

My only complaint is the delivery time...it's usually well over an hour. But since I've ordered from here at least 6 or 7 times it apparently doesn't bother me that badly. :)

This is an interesting Leona's location and not quite sure how they make any money (gotta be delivery).  In about the 8 years i've been coming here, I've never, ever seen more than maybe a half dozen tables/booths filled at any given time; either for carry out or dine in.

So, it's a Leona's and there are a few things that you sorta just stick with.  Maybe, just maybe, a pizza is in order, but there are far too many other pizza joints in Chicago to really do that.  If you do, opt for the Italian Herb thin crust and definitely forgo the deep dish.

The pasta is really pretty average too, Lasagna is probably their top draw, but even that's a modest 3/5 imo.  Good thing is you can get a pasta as a side to any entree or sandwich choice....actually, come to think of it, that's why Leona's even stays on my radar screen: Choice.  You get a lot of variety just on any one visit/order (fresh baked bread w garlic butter and marinara, choice of 2 sides, an apple crisp garnish and your main).

For me, the two main attractions here are the Chicken (they do an very tasty buffalo chicken sandwich!) and their ground Steak Burgers.  Appetizer notables are the toasted ravs, calamari and wings.  They have a boatload of other menu items but frankly they try to do too much of everything and end up doing nothing "very well"; save for the few items mentioned above.

OH no! I am surprised at the bad ratings!!!
I had a fabulous time at Leonas today for lunch. It wasn't packed but we still went in. They have a very large menu and I treated myself to the half buffalo chicken sandwich with wedge fries! The service was great and we got our food pretty quickly. The place was very large and bright, and very clean!
The buffalo sandwich wasn't the best I've ever had but def NOT the worst! The wedge fries were great and it came with a little chocolate raspberry muffin that was very moist.
I will have to review these other reviews, and see what not to order...hmm
all in all it was great, and a pretty good price!

I rarely have an order here that comes without some complications. They forgot one thing - or something else is cold. We had ravioli one day that took a half hour to prepare and still came out partially cold in the center.

I still find myself ordering from here pretty regularly because I can walk to it and get back to my house in less than a minute (dealing with the staff is another issue). The pizza is pretty good most of the time and they have some good mozzarella sticks.

What I love most about this location, though, is the pool hall. $10/hr for decently maintained 9 foot tables. Not too shabby.

I've been here 3 times purely because of proximity - and because Greek Corner wasn't open.

Last time I came, it was late and I was starving. We were seated right away but it took a good while to get our menus. Then it took a good while to get our drinks. Then it took a good while to get our bread. Then it took a good while to get our food - at which point I already finished off the loaf of bread and wasn't hungry any more. I was sad about that... for a good while.

I guess I can't complain too much. They did take one glass of wine and a beer off the bill. Thanks! +1 star!

This review isn't for this particular Leona's, but for the chain in general.

Leona's is very deceptive. They pretend to be vegan-friendly when actually they are only vegetarian-friendly. After eating there for years, a good server finally told me that the bun served with the Vegan Burger is not vegan. They also do not offer another option, such as bread or a wrap. I ate mine without the bun, just as a patty, and without the bun to contain it it just crumbles apart. I've been told that the soy cheese is not vegan. The pasta is vegan but the marinara sauce is not. I think I wanted to order some sort of veggie wrap awhile back but was told that the sauce is not vegan. I'm very disappointed. I used to count on Leona's as an easy place to eat when going out with non-veggie friends, but it looks like I won't be going there anymore. You can't trust the menu or the servers.

You go to Leona's when your parents are in town because you're not sure where else to bring them and you don't want to deal with having to drag them around the Mile more since they just spent the day there.

Big selection, good prices, good service, and an easy time.  This location is a comfortable neighborhood stroll without having to deal with the evils of Wicker Park.

Oh, it's classy.... for some reason there's valet...

I've ordered lasagna dinners  from this location twice.  I just moved in the area and was amazed how quickly (10 minutes) my food arrived.  My amazement quickly turn to disgust once I tasted my dinner.  The food was not fresh, at all.  It taste old, as if it were sitting out for an extended period of time.  The cheese, which look like ricotta, was brown and disgusting.  The extra marina sauce they used on top couldn't save this meal.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt (I've had great experiences with the location in Lakeview) I decide to order from them again.  Once again I ordered the lasagna and once again it arrived in 10 minutes.  When the door bell rang, I realized that I was probably going to have the same experience, which I did.  Disgusting old food.  Needless to say I will not  order from this location.  At least I figured out why delivery was so quick.

On a positive note, they do give you a lot of food which I easily shared.  Unfortunately quantity doesn't replace quality.

If you're a big party, GO HERE.  Because you'll get lots of attention because you are where the bigger tip is.  If you're just a nice easy 2 -top, aka just you and your boyfriend, i suggest a different leona's... like the one in lakeview.
It took us 20 minutes to get drinks. DRINKS. just get us drinks and we'll be happy waiting for 30 minutes for you to come back to take our order. I can't stand people who are waiters or waitresses who don't get the fundamentals of the job. I've been one, it's standard to greet your table more than twice the whole visit. Food's good, good prices, just expect to wait a little longer. Or better yet, get it delivered!
