Still going strong. The cappuccino muffins and hazelnut coffee (breakfast of fatties) still rocks, as well as mikey's combo and the italian. Bagels fall flat, and sometimes the steam table looks a little sad (sometimes it looks good though).
All in all, if this place weren't here, i'm not sure what i would do for sandwich in this pathetic neighborhood called the upper west side. Lenny's is an institution to me. -
Review from Faith D.
My fellow Yelpers did not steer me wrong. Visiting the Upper West Side, I needed a delicious bagel to get me going...Lenny's was great and fast!
Yummy bagels with a variety to please everyone! The service was very quick and they had customers in and out. There are a few tables indoors, but I think most people get their bagel to go and eat on the way.
Bring cash!Listed in: Concrete jungle

Excellent fresh bagels. If you catch them coming right out of the oven when you order even better. I love to have a bagel sandwich but never had a hot bagel sandwich until Lenny's. I am not a convert, whenever I'm in the area and want some good bread and a great sandwich, Lenny's Bagels it is.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! When I lived in this neighborhood I would get an everything bagel for myself and all of my co-workers every Friday. The bagels are fresh and delicious. I miss living near Lennys. The coffee is also great! ahhh Lennys

Passable bagels but no better. Definitely inferior to Absolute Bagels a few blocks north. Today I got a toasted everything bagel, only to find it burned black. When I asked for them to redo it without burning it they told me that anything with onion on it always burns. When I asked, again, for an unburnt bagel, they toasted a plain one and gave it to me without apology. First, if everything with onion on it burns, their toaster is bad; everyone else can toast an onion bagel without burning it. Second, they shouldn't serve burnt food, at least without warning the customer ahead of time that it's going to come out that way. Third, they should apologize, not act as though the customer should have known better than to order something that was going to come out burnt. Very lame.

These are - ho holds barred- the best bagels in NYC. Dense, chewy, good mix of traditional flavors and innovative ones (my favorite is the New Horizon, with flax seeds and raisins.) Staff is friendly & helpful, and prices are reasonable. Unfortunately I no longer live in the neighborhood, so whenever I'm there I get a baker's dozen to take home. Bagels in most other places are too doughy and/or unremarkable.

One of my favorite bagels in NYC. I particularly love the whole wheat everything.

This was my final stop in a whirlwind trip of Manhattan and I happily walked away with half a dozen plain bagels, protected them like children on my bus ride home and inhaled every one of 'em the rest of the week. Very good indeed.

This place is A-OK (hence the rating). I'm rating this specifically on bagels, only, but I know they have other items. I've done most of the important things: onion bagels with scallion cream cheese, breakfast sandwich on a specialty bagel (the bad boy egg bagel w/ poppy seeds and onion),and a plain ol' cinnamon raisin bagel w/ cream cheese. Each was pretty good. Point deducted for onion bagel not having much onion nor much flavor. The scallion cream cheese made up for flavor, also not prohibitively expensive like other places. The cinnamon raisin is also a gold standard type of bagel, a hallmark of good bagels. This was pretty good. Stars deducted for only having american cheese for sandwiches. BARF. Otherwise, it's good, and it's close to me and not prohibitively expensive. I'll be back for certain items.

Delicious everything bagel! My scallion cream cheese was excellent as well. Fast and inexpensive. Keep in mind, cash only. Sort of an inconvenience nowadays if you ask me. Even though they have an atm, I don't like using atms that aren't through my bank.
Can't wait to go back and try their other goodies like potato knish and ruggelach... the next time I happen to have cash, that is. -

BOMB ASS BAGELS.
The Bad Boy (poppy seeds and onion on an egg bagel) with egg and sausage, along with a cup of watermelon for $2, is my #1 favorite breakfast.
The only reason it's not 5 stars is because many-a-times I've ventured in and all the Bad Boys are GONE!!! Please make more so there can be enough bad boys to go around, thank you! -

best everything bagels! can't vouch for the other flavors, but in my current estimation, better than absolute bagels.

Pretty good neighborhood bagel shop. Everything is fresh and they have really good salads for sandwiches as well as lox.

At night I go to sleep in glorious anticipation of my morning bagel and boiling coffee at Lenny's. I swear to God. And in the morning, there is simply no letting concerns for wardrobe or coiffure interfere with the sanctity of this. (I'll be there in my sweats & bed-head. Let's please say Hello another time, say, after I've showered.)
The staff are silently masterful at handing you EXACTLY what you order. "Could I please have a New Horizon well toasted with a little bit of butter and a medium half-caf coffee with a bit of half-and-half and very little sugar?" They hear this all the time and the reaction is always the same: an unfazed, unspoken "whatever, dude" and they get to work.
Cash only.
The bagels include all the usual suspects (plain, sesame, cinn-raison, whole wheat, cheese, blueberry, and on and on), plus some with the unusual names alluded to in other reviews here:
"my 2 son" (sunflower & sesame seeds, I think )
"my ex" (something bad-breathy like garlic + onion + jalapeno)
"new horizon" lots of grains & seeds, with raisins
etc.
The coffee is not single-origin, roasted-specially-for-you, fair-trade, picked by monkeys in their gap year who were treated fairly as part of the process, etc. etc. I love my fancissimo espresso more than I can explain but there's a time and a place for everything and this is just plain, decent, boiling coffee to go with you just-as-I-ordered-it, delicious bagel. Bring it.
There is simply no "decor" to speak of. To even use a French word to describe how the place looks, well, that would be silly. For crying out loud, the guy at the next table in his sweats and bed-head probably hasn't even showered yet... -

I used to live two blocks from this place and every once in a while I get lucky and the bagels are fresh. The outside is crispy (without having to be toasted) and the inside is warm, soft, and chewy. This is what I call carb heaven. It's a shame I moved to Boston, but when I come back to visit, I always come here and get at least half a dozen to take back with me.

Review from Evan H.
While I've already rated this place 4 stars, I will keep my rating of the actual bagels and food here at 4 stars. however, the incompetence of some of the people who work here is 2 stars. When you ask for Ice Coffee and then get hot coffee, I can deal with you fixing it. But then putting milk and sugar in my iced coffee without asking, not cool. Then arguing with me over what I asked for, double not cool. Finally, asking me to pay the increase in price of the hot vs ice coffee...really? just give me the coffee and let me leave.

Yes, Lenny's does have great bagels.
A good bagel, counts for a lot in this world-- in fact, it counts for 3 stars. Their bagels are a great size (bigger than anything you'd buy frozen, but not so big that they are taking over the western world!), and they are a great texture-- just firm enough on the outside, soft in the center, with the ideal chewy factor.
They even have a great array of bagel flavors-- many unique to Lenny's and certainly uniquely named (such as the "Ex-girlfriend": a Jalapeno and Cheddar bagel).
The only (and biggest) problem with Lenny's is that their cream cheese is LOUSY! It is thin, and not creamy, and doesn't spread well. They're flavored cream cheeses (such as lox, or veggie) are lacking in substance, and really should not be passed off as any flavor at all. How can you sell a fantastic bagel and lousy cream cheese?! Bad cream cheese can ruin even the best of bagels.
Here's hoping they re-cream themselves soon!Listed in: Black Listed

Lenny's has the best garlic cream cheese I've ever had. It's so wonderfully garlicy that you'll have to cover your mouth for hours to avoid killing anyone within a 6 foot radius with it's delicious aftermath. I usually get it on an un-toasted egg bagel (also great) and have it for lunch when I'm not planning on seeing anyone and can brush my teeth a couple of times.
Highly recommended. -

YUM! definitely great bagels, especially in the mornings when they are still warm!! not sure how you can describe a bagel, but this was perfect. Firm on the outside and soft but still with great texture on the inside.
People, Leeny's makes a great bagel. The egg salad is heavy on the yolk but oh so good. The lox bagel sandwich combines the perfect amount of lox and cream cheese. The scallion cream cheese spread is to die for. Grab a few things here and walk over to Central Park. Makes a perfect morning. -

Saturday morning at 6am. Lenny's Bagels is the spot to be! The girlfriend had an early interview in Stony Brook today , so I mapped this place out night before.
I ordered the Cinnamon Raisin and Poppy Seed Bagels with cream cheese. These bagels were so deliciously fresh and warm! Firm on the outside and had great soft texture in the middle.
They serve great house coffee too and even add milk and sugar upon your request!
A great deal, 2 Large coffees and two bagels with cream cheese just under $8 bucks.
Note: If you don't like a huge amt. of cream cheese, ask for light cream chees. They aren't skimpy with their cream cheese spread. -

I used to live right around the corner from Lenny's Bagels and LOVE their bagels.
The mornings are a bit hectic in there - but I guess just like every other bagel shop in NYC... However if you have a little bit of patience and get in line, you will see that their bagel is always always perfect. My only disappointment when I left that area was leaving the bagels behind!Listed in: Yummy!

I have no idea what all the hype is about. This is NOT a great bagel shop, by any means...not even close.
First off...the line is completely confusing. There are apparently two lines...one to order and one to pay...all filtering into the same narrow space. After I ordered, I realized that I had somehow been squished between the counter and two really really fat men behind me. They were waiting to pay...why doesn't everyone just order and pay at the same time? Instead of everyone crowding around the only counter area low enough to see the men behind the counter. I freaked out and basically told the guys to give me some space and that them crowding me was making me claustrophobic (and thinking no, it's because they're so obese that I'm claustrophobic).
This line is also where you pick-up your food. Have you people not been to a Cosi's or a Starbucks where you order in once place and pick-up in another? Yeah, it's a genius idea. You should start using it Lenny. Idiots.
On to the bagel...it was OK. Definitely not great. It was small and squished and the inside kind of stale and since when does an everything bagel only have a few poppy seeds? WTF. Everything means EVERYTHING.
I asked for a knife. A pretty common request in a BAGEL SHOP...to be able to spread the cream cheese, right? THEY DON'T CARRY KNIVES. Again...WTF? The guy hands me a plastic fork. What the fuck am I going to do with a plastic fork with my bagel?
You want a delicious bagel? A bagel that literally melts in your mouth when you take the first bite...is super soft and has a lot of seeds on the everything?...Like and everything is supposed to be. Go to the Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company in Chelsea http://www.brooklynbag.... Best bagel in Manhattan. Leagues better than Lenny's.
People giving 5 star reviews: you're really missing out if you think Lenny's is the best thing out there. -

Best bagel of my life, I kid you not. My parents are Brooklynites and I was raised to be very snotty about bagels and I can tell you that this is the place to go. I have never tried any of their nouveau bagels but you shouldn't be ordering those anyways because that is an insult to bagel heritage. BUT if you want a fabulous traditional bagel this is the only place to go. Absolute bagels doesn't hold a candle to this place. No, really.
I also like that I have the option of light cream cheese here- which is NOT an option at Absolute.

When I finally moved to a neighborhood that had a bonafide local bagel shop, I sang! Rejoiced! Did a happy dance!
Then I ordered a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese.
Lenny's bagel is crunch on the outside, somewhat doughy on the inside, with a healthy spread of cream cheese within.
My only complaint is that the price of a Lenny's bagel has risen more than 50 cents in the three years that I've lived on the UWS. It's robbery. -

Note: I gave this place the same score as i did Daniel. It's that good.
Lennys is:
- a popular local bagel shop
- freaking delicious
- my most frequented store in NYC
- awesome for having weird bagel names like 'bad boy' 'my 2 son', and 'my ex'. All of which are super tasty.
I've already started to worry about how much I will miss this place if I ever move. No seriously, it's sad. -

Well for my trip to NYC, it couldn't be complete without good bagels. Fortunately Lenny's was close to my hotel. My husband and I went there pretty well every day of our trip. The bagels were fresh the cream cheese was delicious and the service was pretty fast, regardless of how long the line was. My only complaint was that the shop was pretty warm inside. But I would put up with that for the delicious bagels!

Killer vanilla-flavored iced coffee and great black and white cookie. So, it was not the most classy cafe, but it sure was delicious.

Had a turkey sandwhich and an everything bagel with cream cheese and both were really good! Big windows in seating area for people watching and they play popular radio. Great stop for a quick bite or some good coffee. Prices are all between 2.50 and 6.00 and it's really good food.

ooh, I love Lenny's. Good for breakfast on the go, snack home from work, or even just people watching out the big windows with a fresh cup of joe and a toasted sesame. Linda always puts a smile on my face with the lox sandwiches, and I always get the right amount of schmear on any one of those unique bagel concoctions. Sometimes I go for scallion cream cheese on a toasted plain... Other times a low fat with a garlic... s'all gewd. And the fresh roast beef with lettuce + tomato sandwiches are great for a flight. Forget those corporate coffee and doughnut shops... Lenny's is a wonderful neighborhood institution!

Manorville, NY
Seemed to be quite a few regulars, and the service was executed accordingly. They were already out of a lot of stuff at 10:15, but I guess that's not a bad sign (even if it was frustrating). Went with the New Horizon bagel with strawberry CC (cream cheese, not credit card, which they don't accept). Washed it down with a new Vitamin Water for $4.50. Toasted bagel was spread well and it was a perfect, scenic spring morning treat a couples avenues over in Riverside Park.

i dunno man, i've definitely had better!
i was disappointed in their selection of savory bagels--no sun dried tomato? garlic? onion? sadness! i settled for "my ex," which consisted of jalapeno and cheddar cheese with scallion cream cheese.
my order was to go, so when i got home and unwrapped my bagel, i realized that it wasn't toasted--BLASPHEMY! being the lazyass that i am, i didn't want to walk the four blocks back to get it fixed. such a mistake.
they are not generous with the cream cheese, which is very disappointing. i had to ration the spread and carefully decide what the perfect amount for each bite was, since i didn't want to run out.
not a fan, lenny's, not a fan. -

Great service, quick, fast and friendly. Some of the best bagels I've ever tasted. Apart from the bagels, you also get EXCELLENT muffins (especially the choclate ones). They offer bagels and muffins to treat every taste in everybody. Cheap too! (60 cents for a plain bagel!!)

Eew! There's nothing worse than a bad bagel. I'm sorry folks, but what I ordered and only partially ate was not a bagel. It was bread, not even good bread. I ordered a simple sesame bagel with butter, and it came out completely oily and gross when I ate it. Yuck yuck. I am on the hunt for a REAL bagel. I certainly won't find one at Lenny's.

The Oat Bran Everything bagel with tofu vegetable cream cheese is the best. You can almost forget that bagels aren't that healthy for you. Wow....

New York, NY
Tofu scallion cream cheese on a toasted My 2 Son bagel (poppy, sesame and sunflower seeds) once you have tried this, or your own preferred combination, you will long for it every time you have to rough it at another bagel shop. They may in fact put crack in the cream cheese, I am not really sure but it definitely has me hooked. Lots of different kinds of bagels in addition to the traditional kinds. My favorite name would have to be the "My Ex" which is a plain bagel with jalapenos baked in. The place has character and the most amazing bagels every made, there is no more anyone could possibly want.
