The hubby and I had been in Paris for a week and we were looking for a Japanese restaurant close to our Airbnb to have our last meal - we were mostly looking for a decent miso soup. We found this place and we're so glad we did!! The food was outstanding - we had a miso soup, the eggplant, gambas, and one of the chicken plates. Everything was super tasty and interesting. The restaurant is very cute, dim lighting, well decorated and has a great selection of whiskeys (Hibaki 30 among many others). We ended the meal with the lychee mochi which was also delicious. Can't wait to be back in Paris to come back to this restaurant

Delicious! This restaurant looks like a place you could find in Japan. They serve japonese "tapas", little dishes you can share. We only tasted 4 of them and they were super good.

There we were, in the middle of Paris looking for a decent restaurant (lots of touristy looking places around). A friend suggested downloading and using Yelp, and we narrowed the selection down to within 300m of our location and picked the top scoring restaurant. We weren't disappointed! My partner had just spend a few weeks in old Tokyo and loved the food. So did I. Not even a sniff of sushi - and that was a good thing. Everything we tried was a taste of Japanese heaven! And the wine selection - I don't think I've seen anything like it to compare - anywhere. We'll be back there next time we go to Paris to try the rest of the menu.

      Try the bar seating --
I've been to lengué twice and have very much enjoyed sitting at the bar (if you have a larger party then of course not) especially if you're on a date! The décor and vibe is very japanese and do remember to make reservations. I think they have two slots, 7pm and 9pm, and if you book the one at 7 they ask you to leave at 9 before the second service starts.

I'm a big saké fan so I went for saké but my friend ordered a peach or grapefruit drink (I think it's a calpico/alcohol/nectar/sparking water concoction) so if you want to just have a drink go for that. They have a great shochu and wine selection (in the end this is an izakaya) and the Japanese staff were very friendly and attentive as well.

We had the karaagé (fried chicken), fried shrimp with mayo, beef tataki (win), a grilled eggplant dish, fried tofu, etc., and all the dishes were great. We also tried the sunomono (which is like a pickle platter -- usually accompanied by alcohol) but that wasn't super great. The cold dishes came out first and I love the progression with the dishes -- feels like you're having omakase with a maestro but much more bar-like!

The green tea ice cream wasn't on the menu (I think there was sesame) but we ordered the torayaki with cream and it was delicious!

I think it's a little bit expensive for the ingredients they're selling, but go for the atmosphere and the taste! (and the saké but I just found out a place where you can buy saké in Paris).

Lovely place for authentic, home style Japanese cooking. I went there for lunch and had le menu. It's not exactly cheap but you're getting good quality Japanese food in Paris (which is hard to find), so this is to be expected. Everything was very good including Japanese style service, except for maybe the matcha ice cream I had for dessert. I don't know what I was thinking; it was going to be obvious that they would serve store-bought ice cream, but still it was pretty awful (with no real matcha flavor whatsoever, a gross mouthfeel of the texture of ice cream, and a weird synthetic vanilla aroma. Even the Häagen Dazs matcha ice cream you get in Asia is much better than this.) But savory food-wise it tastes like "home" to me so I would definitely go back here. If you like super salty Japanese food, I think you might find the items here lacking in taste of salt, but I actually liked it this way since you can taste the subtle flavors.

      To serious wine drinkers....buyer beware

      First the good...

Food. The food is really good. The chicken wings were among the best I've ever had in the Japanese style.

Ambiance. This is a charming little spot on a quite side street which is rare in Saint Michel. This area is a tourist hell with more than 100 restaurants, almost all abysmal.

Wine. The wine list here is just incredible. Hundreds of selection, many rare and tons of older vintages (back to the 50s.)

Now the not so good part....

Service. I preface this by saying that I worked for many years as a sommelier, including a year at a Michelin three star restaurant. We spoke with the sommelier at length about our selection. I told him that we were interested in an aged white burgundy but were concerned about the possibility that it might be oxidized. He pointed me to a selection and assured me that it was not oxidized. It was. I said so, he disagreed. I ended not drinking the wine and he eventually took it away. To their credit, they removed it from the bill without me asking but it ended up being a loss for both them and us.

Our food arrived almost all at once. We ate very quickly and left. The whole thing felt very tense. All in, our meal lasted 30-40 minutes. Such a shame. This place has the possibility of offering a truly great experience but failed completely at service recover.
