I love almost every one of her pieces and regularly check the website and make a pilgrimage to the the store when I'm in SF.
The clothes are pricey-ish ($300 dresses) but they do have sales and I love the Lemon Twist clothes so much that I tend to wear them a lot. The pieces themselves are quirky/timeless and classic in the sense that they are stylish for a long time after the first season run but have darling details that make you look modern and vintage - like a ric-rac dress I bought 3 years ago which still gets me stopped in the street to be asked what I am wearing.
I love the fact that they make the clothes in-house and the owner(s) are so warm and friendly that it makes shopping a wonderful experience. I wish they had a Lemon Twist in San Diego, wah. -

Reason #37 to shop in Hayes Valley. Lemon Twist is an ultra cute store, and all the clothes are made in store with choice fabrics. Style-wise, my friend says it's for the modern woman with moxie, and that about sums it up. Cute baby-clothes as well, very fun stuff.
Guys (and gals) - their artwork is another draw (perfect for a housewarming present), as are their eye-catching graphic T's (http://www.lemontwist....).
I picked up one of their postcards, which sums up the carefree fashion sense of the husband and wife team behind Lemon Twist: "The right skirt can make the wrong haircut totally work." -

LOVE IT!
Small store with a few styles and a few sizes, with every single piece designed and made RIGHT THERE!
I was here after a looong day of just wandering around from store to store, not finding anything at all that caught my eye, so this was a pleasant surprise! My good friend and I tried on every dress in that store that is our size [yeah, it was pretty funny, and it took a while], and most of them actually FIT and really do have a unique cut! In a world of trend-happy people, it's nice to own pieces that most likely no one else has. [there IS a chance that someone will have the same dress, but it's rather unlikely].
I ended up buying a simple black dress with a urban sleek rectangular cut and a low belt. The great thing about it is that I can pull it over my head and be ready to go! No zippers, no buttons, no accessories really needed! In other words, I am very very happy, I have a fantastic dress, and it cost me only $160. I know I know, that's a lot for a simple dress, but trust me, it's worth every cent!
If you don't like the pieces you find in the store, or didn't find something in your size, you can custom order clothes to be tailored just for you. I think this is SO COOL! Next time I am in SF for a bit longer, I will most definitely get a custom made/tailored dress from here!
All that said, this is what really made me love this store: the owners are really sweet, and have two of the most adorable children in San Francisco!Listed in: Buy stuff!

I wish I could stimulate the economy at this very moment and I sure as hell would stimulate it well at Lemon Twist. Danette is an amazing designer! She's the one stop shop, really. She designs the clothes, serves as an impromptu stylist, customer service extraordinaire and a business woman alongside her husband. What a dynamic woman!
Seriously, the selection of finely constructed clothes is only one reason to visit the shop. Her husband's art is fantastic and compliments her designs rather well, actually. It's not everyday that you see a husband and wife who are artists and have a phenomenal store in such a great neighborhood. If I had the funds, I would definitely purchase a wardrobe or have one created by Danette! Please visit Lemon Twist and support local artists! You won't be disappointed! -

My first art opening at the space I am currently curating was giving me a headache. I had worked both day and night only to realize too late that I had nothing to wear! Or rather nothing that would make me look like the cool artsy girl that I profess to be.
So I drag my out of town guests down to Hayes Valley to search all the shops for the perfect outfit. After hitting most of the stores with no luck we walk into Lemon Twist. Danette the owner was interested in my plight and made it her personal mission to dress me for the show. After trying on everything in the store with no luck she pulls out the cutest black dress ever. Exactly what I was looking for: simple, artsy, modern, professional and somehow within my modest budget.
The event was a success, but better yet were all the compliments on my dress. -

I hate shopping. I hate trying on clothes that fit in some places, but not in others. I hate clothes with no character.
I LOVE LEMON TWIST!!!
I came in and tried on two dresses- one was only available in a size way too large for me, so they're MAKING one in my size for me! And the one in my size fit perfectly so we know that the M will fit when it is made.
The owners are a couple team and are flexible and will work with you on fitting and making and getting you the right dress.
It is so nice to know that I can have locally designed, locally made, well constructed clothes that are really not more expensive than what you might get at Bloomingdale's or Nordstrom but that has 300% more character!Listed in: My very most favorites!!!, Born to Shop

I am completely picky about clothing fitting properly and love that I can walk into this store, pick up a bolt of fabric and ask Danette to make me this dress in that fabric and take the length to here and the waist to there and add this detail, but take away that one. She is amazing and always gets it right.
Her clothes are the right amount of fun, hip and unique to make people stop you and ask where you got that outfit. If you like something but not the fabric she can hook you up with something more to your liking but in the same style. Highly recommend this store! -

Cute, cute stuff! the Felt pale blue/chocolate brown dress was one of the cutest dresses I've ever seen and so so soft.
The clothing is designed there then sent out to be made locally. The woman working was friendly and helpful.
Lots of original looking stuff that looks handmade - the only problem (or could be cool thing) may be that people see it and think you make it for yourself. -

Was on a mission to find boutiques in the area. We were actually trying to find another place we had read about in the 7x7 magazine.
Passing by, I saw this periwinkle colored dress on display -- it looked like it was made with some kind of felt material, almost like a blanket, and I went into touch the dress (inside of the fabric is dark brown, really soft wool). OMG. So soft. I had to try it on. It was as if it was specially made for me -- it fit me so well. There are several other dresses with the same design, but made with different fabric, and this one was by far the prettiest combination. The design was, very me!
Danette, the owner, is very sweet. She even invited us to come to the block party on Friday.
So happy I have found lemon twist. :-) -

Sweet, refreshing -- just a tiny bit tart -- I think I'm addicted to Lemon Twist! The designs have a fabulous '60s yet timeless quality -- simple and clean, but really unique. I've gotten tons of compliments on everything I've purchased from there. The fabrics are adorable and the clothes have the cutest details. They'll custom-make all the designs in whatever fabric you choose. I love everything, from the sweet Hayes Valley storefront to the logo and gorgeous letterpress cards. And the Lemon Drop baby clothes are just about the cutest things I've ever seen!

I love this place! Most of the time I am in jeans and T-Shirt with a cardigan. This place has some amazing tees all designed by the owner. (Very helpful and friendly.) I love that my purchases support his little shop. The dresses/skirts/tops are made by his wife and are cute and funky, not a lot in my style but always worth checking out.

My answer to business casual. I was just in and fell in love with the shirt dresses and cute shifts in the store right now. Reasonable prices and you can feel good about your money going to a local designer.

Danette (the owner and designer) is so awesome. She'll make sure that you leave the store looking and feeling really good. I bought the cutest orange dress there last summer. It fits me perfectly. I always get tons of compliments whenever I wear it. That's what good clothes should be about. Making you feel pretty!

Read about Lemon Twist in the NY Times. Saved it for our next trip. One of the owners was there and was so cool, so enthusiastic we just had to buy something. The dress we got is so cute and unique and fit like a glove! Worth looking for! Support local businesses with a conscious!

I love the a-line skirts with circle pockets...and they make really cute blouses but I feel like their styles could mix-it up a bit more from season to season.
The clothes are infinitely made better than other local designers and their new digs in Hayes Valley are super cute.
I also love the fact that the Designer is extremely helpful (I was looking for something to wear at a wedding)...and she tried as hard as she could to find something for me (all for naught...)...but I'll go back again and support the team behind Lemon Twist... -

amazing designs. the last time i was there they had these amazing sixties-retro designs, but they do it in this really unique way that is not like a lot of places i've seen.
the craftsmanship and tailoring are above most local designers. i really like lemon twist.
oh, and danette, the co- owner/designer is really nice and unpretentious.

Love Lemon Twist. I started collecting their stuff about 8 yrs ago, and every piece I have ever purchased there still fills fresh when I wear it. Their designs fit and hang right, flattering most figures. Love that their pieces are dinstinctive, playful and fun, which great style. I'm wearing their long black quilted skirt right now (when I went in the store they didn't have one my size, so made one just for me for my exact measurements!) and love the casual and elegant feel!
Lemon Twist is a "gotta check it out" place. -
